This article discusses a study which examined several forest-dwelling species of dasyurid marsupials endemic to New Guinea. The study applied faecal and gut content analysis. It also provides a comparison between the contents and the results of pitfall trapping for terrestrial invertebrates. The study found differences between diets of the species and rarely detected pitfall traps in the diets of some of the invertebrates. It also showed that the findings agreed with previous results about the diets of the small Australian species of dasyurid marsupials.
