Abstract

The article presents a comparative reading of Maria Stepanova's book "Pamiati pamiati"/"In Memor of Memory," and Sergei Lebedev's book "Liudi avgusta"/"People of August." Topics discussed include brief background of both Stepanova and Lebedev, major role of the issue of Stalinism in both novels, and two areas of the conceptualization of the relationship between memory and literature.
