EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *FACTOR structure , *MIDDLE school students , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *FACTOR analysis - Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine the motivation of middle school students towards grammar. The study group consists of a total of 500 7th-grade students, including 264 girls and 236 boys, studying in various middle schools in the city center of Kars. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was initially conducted on the data collected to determine the factorial structure and validity study of the scale. As a result of the factor analysis, it was observed that the scale has a twofactor structure. Therefore, the scale data were limited to two factors and analyzed using the principal components method. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistic value of the scale was found to be 0.919, and the Bartlett's Test of Sphericity statistic value was χ2=6310.22; df=1081, p=0.000, indicating that it was significant and suitable for factor analysis. Item-total test correlations were calculated as evidence of item validity. It was determined that the item-test correlations ranged from 0.308 to 0.710. The Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient calculated to determine the reliability of the scale was found to be 0.948 for the total scale. The internal consistency coefficient of the high motivation factor of the scale was found to be 0.946, and the internal consistency coefficient of the low motivation factor was found to be 0.874, indicating high internal consistency. In light of these findings, it was concluded that the grammar motivation scale is valid and reliable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Stigmatization leads to severe consequences both individually and socially. This situation can also occur in epidemics and complicate the treatment process. Therefore, the objective evaluation of stigma and the creation of an action plan on this issue are the most basic steps in the fight against the epidemic. This study aimed to develop and study the reliability and validity of a scale that evaluates stigma against individuals who experienced coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Methods: A 24-item draft scale was prepared by considering the stigma experienced by individuals who experienced COVID-19 both in their close relations and social environment. The study was conducted on the relatives of patients referred to Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Hospital's different polyclinics. In addition to the developed COVID-19 Stigma Scale (CSS), the COVID-19 Information Questionnaire (CIQ) was used. Results: The sample of the study consisted of 323 healthy individuals who were 54.5% male, with a mean age of 39.0±13.7 years. In the factor analysis, which included 24 items, five items with a factor load below 0.40 were eliminated. The final version of the scale consisted of three factors, and these factors (rejection, discrimination, and emotional reactions) explained 61% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total CSS was calculated as 0.91. A significant negative correlation was found between the CSS total and CIQ total scores (r=-0.301, p<0.001). Conclusion: The CSS is valid and reliable in assessing the stigmatization of individuals in the healthy population toward COVID-19 patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Health literacy is one's ability to access, comprehend, appraise, and apply health-related information. Health literacy has become an important topic since the COVID-19 pandemic. This methodological study aimed to adapt the Coronavirus-Related Health Literacy Scale (HLS-COVID-Q22) to Turkish. Methods: The sample consisted of 539 students of the faculty of health sciences of a university in Turkey. The study was conducted between December 2020 and May 2021. The content validity ratio was calculated for content validity. The construct and concurrent validity, internal consistency reliability, test-retest reliability, and ceiling and floor effects were also determined. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed for construct validity. Results: The fit indices indicated an adequate fit (χ²/df: 4.97<5, Comparative Fit Index: 0.996). The composite reliability (>0.70) and Cronbach's alpha values (>0.90) were above acceptable limits. Most students had "adequate health literacy" (71.8%). A quarter of the students had "problematic health literacy" (24.5%). The remaining students had "inadequate health literacy" (3.7%). Students with lower levels of health literacy were more likely to have confusion about coronavirus-related information (p<0.001). Conclusions: The results of the study show that the Health Literacy Scale Related to COVID-19 - Turkish Version (HLS-COVID-TR), consisting of 22 items, has sufficient reliability, internal and external construct validity. It has been determined that it is a valid and reliable scale for measuring health science students' COVID-19 related health literacy levels. Nearly three quarters of the students have sufficient health literacy level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To translate the "Functional Evaluation of Physical Performance for the Geriatric Population (Alusti test)" into Turkish to examine validity and reliability. Materials and Methods: During the translation period, the cross-cultural adaptation design proposed using the guideline was used. The patients evaluated the Turkish version of the Alusti test and it was applied again a week later. To determine the reliability and internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated. Test-retest reliability was determined using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Pearson's correlation analysis. Construct validity was examined with factor analysis. Convergent validity was examined by comparing Alusti test with Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) and Barthel index (BI), and criterion validity was examined by comparing Alusti test with Tinetti balance and gait assessment, timed up and go test (TUGT), 6-meter walking speed test, and Rivermead mobility index (RMI) scores. Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.701. The ICC for the test-retest reliability was 0.948. The Alusti test was explained by four factors. SPPB (r=0.586, p=0.000), BI (r=0.321, p=0.005) and Tinetti gait test (r=0.512, p=0.000) were moderately positively correlated with the Alusti test total score. The Tinetti balance test (r=0.662, p=0.000), Tinetti balance and gait assessment total score (r=0.655, p=0.000) and RMI (r=0.715, p=0.000) were highly positive correlated. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Alusti test is a valid and reliable scale for the geriatric population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The feeling of disgust for food plays an important role in many situations, especially in food choice and consumption. Since the feeling of disgust is effective in many events that affect individuals' daily-life, it is important to understand the role of this emotion in food-related behaviours. Recently, a 32-item instrument to Food Disgust Scale (FDS) developed and validated. This study aims to validate the FDS for the first time in Turkish population. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 240 healthy Turkish individuals between the ages of 19-65. The research was carried out on the internet between July 2020-February 2021 with the survey method. The scale was evaluated with a six-point Likert scale as in the original. Statistical analyses were made with the R-Project program and lavaan packages. A Turkish version of the FDS (FDS-TR) was tested with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in order to test the original item. Results: In this study, the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale was determined as 0.914. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficients for FDS-TR subscales varied between 0.717-0.902. The fit indices provided by confirmatory factor analysis results were also within the acceptable range. Conclusions: This study results indicate that FDS-TR is highly reliable in healthy individuals and can be used safely in future studies. It is recommended that the scale be used to determine the effects of food disgust on many issues such as food waste, obesity, eating behaviour in our country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study has aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Mental Health Literacy in Healthcare Students (MHLS-HS). Methods: The study sample comprises 275 students at Istanbul Medical Faculty between the ages of 18 and 27. Data were collected using the MHLS-HS, the Beliefs about Mental Illness Scale (BMI), and the Positive Mental Health Scale (PMS). For language adaptation, translation, back translation, expert comments, and a trial application were conducted. Validity was determined using the content validity index and confirmatory factor analysis, while reliability was determined using Cronbach's alpha analysis and the test-retest method. Results: The content validity index of the scale was found to be 0.99 and the item loads were found to be 0.38-0.94 according to confirmatory factor analysis. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.79 for the whole scale and between 0.60-0.89 for the five sub-dimensions. In equivalent criterion validity, it was determined that BMI had a weak negative correlation (r=-0.360, p<0.001) and a weak positive correlation (r=0.327, p<0.001) with PMS. A statistically significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions of Maintaining Positive Mental Health, Stigmatizing Mental Illnesses, and Seeking Help Effectiveness between those with and without mental illness in the discrimination analysis of the RSS-SS scale (p<0.001, p=0.029, p=0.034, respectively). Conclusions: The Mental Health Literacy Scale in Healthcare Students was found to be valid and reliable. It can be used to assess and improve the educational experience of medical school students. PSYCHOLOGICAL tests , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *ANXIETY , *BECK Anxiety Inventory - Abstract
Objective: Anxiety is inseparable from life due to its survival value. Up-todate and multidimensional assessment of anxiety is necessary to develop effective interventions to cope with high anxiety levels. This study was conducted to examine the psychometrics of the Anxiety Assessment Scale (AAS). Methods: Data were collected between January and April 2021 from 756 students (42.9% males and 57.1% females) studying medicine at Istanbul Medeniyet University. Seven experts evaluated the items to detect content validity in the final application form. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA) were used for construct validity. The Beck Anxiety Inventory was also applied for concurrent validity. Test-retest reliabilities were calculated within four weeks. IBM SPSS 25 and AMOS 24 were used for statistical analyses. Results: Data were suitable for factor analyses (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin=0.800, chi-square=3018.854, df=45). The EFA showed the threefactor structure with 10 items, and 70.1% of the variance was explained. Factor loads of the items varied between 0.61 and 0.87; data-model fit was suitable (CFI=0.92, TLI=0.93, RMSEA=0.059, SRMR=0.046, chi-square/df=1.556) according to CFA. Concurrent scale validity was also confirmed by the Pearson correlation (r=0.167, p<0.01). The test-retest reliabilities (r) were all >0.5 (p<0.001). The Cronbach a coefficients were 0.845 (AAS), 0.770 (Physiological Tension=PT), 0.822 (Worrying=W), and 0.838 (Feeling Unsafe=FU). Conclusions: AAS is a reliable and valid measurement instrument to assess anxiety levels in three dimensions. AAS can be applied for research, psychological assessment, and other appropriate application purposes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHOMETRICS , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *PSYCHOLOGICAL well-being , *FACTOR analysis , *CULTURAL humility - Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of original version of the Cultural Humility Scale (CHS) developed by Foronda et al. (2020). The participants of the study consisted of 231 (123 female and 108 male, X = 31.74 Ss = 8.66) graduates of the faculty of education. As data collection tools, Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), CHS and the Personal Information Form were administered in order to gather the data. The data obtained as a result of the application were evaluated with confirmatory factor analysis and pearson correlation analysis. Factor analysis results confirmed that the scale has a three-factor structure. Within the scope of the criterion-related validity of the CHS, the psychological well-being of the teachers was found to be (r=.33) positively and significantly related. Within the scope of the study, the Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency of the whole scale was determined to be .82. In addition, the Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency for the sub-dimensions of CHS were obtained as .74 for Perspective of Differences, .54 for Self-Attribution, and .78 for the Results of Cultural Humility. The findings showed that the Turkish version of the CHS is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to cultural humility levels of graduates of the faculty of education in Turkey. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Chemosensory Pleasure Scale, which is developed to determine the hedonic pleasure in taste and smell. The present study was conducted with a sample of 247 participants. Sociodemographic Form (SF), Chemosensory Pleasure Scale Turkish Version (CPS-TR), Physical Anhedonia Scale (PAS), and Social Anhedonia Scale (SAS) were used to collect data. For the reliability analysis, Cronchach alpha internal consistency coefficient, itemtotal score correlation coefficients, and Spearman-Brown split-half test were calculated, whereas Explanatory factor analysis was performed to estimate the construct validity of the scale. Considering the internal consistency reliability of the scale, Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was found to be α=0.87. The item and total score correlation coefficients of the scale items were found between 0.35 and 0.70. Exploratory factor analysis explained 68.9% of the total variance and supported the three-factor structure of the scale. Factor loadings of these factors were estimated between 0.55-0.85. The correlation of CPS-TR with PAS and SAS was statistically significant. The results of this study suggest that the Turkish version of the CPS is a reliable and valid instrument for determining chemosensory pleasure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Intensive care units (ICUs) present patients and families with many challenges. Therefore, respecting them may contribute positively to their recovery. This study aims to determine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the ICU-RESPECT scale. Materials and Methods: A methodological, cross-sectional study design was used. It was conducted in different types of ICUs between April and September 2019 with a hundred patients and family members. Data were collected with a socio-demographic form, The ICU-RESPECT scale, the Family Satisfaction in the ICU Survey, and The Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing scales. The adaptation of the scale, language validity and content validity were studied. The construct validity of the scale was analysed by factor analysis. The reliability of the scale was evaluated with the reliability coefficient, and the scale was tested with similar measurement tools. Results: The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin coefficient and Bartlett’s sphericity test results determined that the data were suitable for factor analysis. A single factor that had 73.56% of the total variance was found. The reliability coefficient for the scale was 0.95. A strong positive correlation between scales was determined. Conclusion: The ICU-RESPECT scale is a valid and reliable instrument for the Turkish population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
