For aluminized explosive, the charge performance of explosive grenade is very significant for promoting their application. Firstly, the detonation performance of cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) based explosives with different aluminum powder (0%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, and 40%, respectively) content was investigated. Next, the air blast tests of RDX-based aluminized explosives were carried out. Then, RDX-based explosive grenade charges of L-1 and L-2 where the aluminum powder content was 20% and 25% were selected for air blast and static blasting fragments velocity tests. Finally, the energy release mechanism of the air blast was deduced via calculation. The results show that RDX-based aluminized explosives have higher detonation heat, detonation velocity, and detonation volume when the aluminum powder content is 20%, and the shock wave over pressure as well as impulse keep a high level at the same time within 4.5 m. The air blast performance of L-1 is better than L-2 within 2.2 m. As the distance increases, the air blast energy of L-1 is mainly used for shell rupture and fragment acceleration, while the contribution of L-2 is less than that of L-1. In order to improve the reaction kinetic characteristics of Al powder in CL-20-based aluminum-containing explosives, CL-20/Al composite particles were prepared by solvent-non-solvent method, and CL-20 particles and Al particles were close contacted in microstructures. Then the composite explosives containing 85% CL-20/10% Al/5%-polymer binder composite particles were prepared by the direct method. The mechanical sensitivity, explosion heat, explosion tank test results and cylinder test results were compared between CL-20-based aluminum-containing explosives with the method in this work and the same formula prepared by conventional method. The results show that CL-20/Al composite particles can slightly increase the impact sensitivities of explosives, and the friction sensitivity is not changed. Through recombination of CL-20/Al on the micro-structure, because of shortening the diffusion distance between Al powder and detonation products, the reaction kinetics of Al powders can be significantly improved. Further, the reaction completeness of Al powders in the explosion process of aluminum-containing explosives can be improved, and it forces the reaction of part of Al powders occurring in the detonation zone. Compared with the conventional method, the explosion heat of explosive increases from 6 787 J/g to 6 930 J/g, the maximum temperature of explosion field in explosive tank increases from 544.3°C to 661.2 °C, and the Gurney coefficient increases from 2.88 mm/jus to 3.10 mm/µs. To predict JWL (Jones-Wilkins-Lee) equation of state (EOS) parameters, a KHT Code has been programmed according to the KHT (Kihara-Hikita-Tanaka) EOS of detonation production. The detonation parameters of RDX-based aluminized explosives calculated by KHT code have a good consistency with the experimental values, which proves the credibility of the KHT code. On this basis, the calculated isentropic expansion data of the detonation production using KHT code were used to predict the JWL EOS parameters for RDX-based aluminized explosives. The numerical test by employing AUTODYN software with the predicted JWL EOS parameters as input data was carried out to simulate the explosion of 1 kg RDX-based aluminized explosives under water 4.7 m. It was found that the shock wave peak pressures of numerical calculation were very similar to the experimental results. The detonation parameters of RDX-based aluminized explosive were measured by test, and the test result was verified by KHT code. The influence law of Al/O ratio on detonation pressure, detonation velocity and heat was analyzed. Underwater explosion experiments were carried out on shock wave propagation and bubble pulse of 1 kg cylindrical RDX-based aluminized explosive under water 4. 7 m. The coefficients of similitude equation for peak pressure and attenuation time constant were fitted. The study indicates that the detonation pressure and velocity reduce linearly with the increasing of Al/O ratio and the detonation heat achieves a maximum value when Al/O ratio equals to 0. 997. When Al/O ratio equals to 0. 366, the peak pressure and shock wave energy reach the maximum value, but the shock wave impulse and flux density reach the maximum value when Al/O ratio equals to 0. 633 , and the first bubble pulsation period and radius reach the maximum values when Al/O ratio equals to 0. 997.
