Physical review / D 64(11), 112005 (2001). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.64.112005, Spin transfer in deep-inelastic Lambda electroproduction has been studied with the HERMES detector using the 27.6 GeV polarized positron beam in the HERA storage ring. For an average fractional energy transfer = 0.45, the longitudinal spin transfer from the virtual photon to the Lambda has been extracted. The spin transfer along the Lambda momentum direction is found to be 0.11 +/- 0.17 (stat) +/- 0.03 (sys); similar values are found for other possible choices for the longitudinal spin direction of the Lambda. This result is the most precise value obtained to date from deep-inelastic scattering with charged lepton beams, and is sensitive to polarized up quark fragmentation to hyperon states. The experimental result is found to be in general agreement with various models of the Lambda spin content, and is consistent with the assumption of helicity conservation in the fragmentation process., Published by Inst., Woodbury, NY

Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , Diss., 2000; 109 pp., (2000). doi:10.3204/DESY-THESIS-2000-003, Spin transfer to $\Lambda^0$-Hyperons in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized positrons from both unpolarized and longitudinally polarized nucleons has been investigated. The data were collected by the HERMESExperiment at DESY in Hamburg during 1996 and 1997 covering a kinematic range of 0.8 < $Q^2$ , 0.02 < x < 0.5 and 0.2 $\leq$ z. To avoid asymmetries caused by acceptance effects, datasets with all possible permutations for polarization directions of beam and target have been combined. The result for the spin transfer, dominated by scattering from u-quarks is compatible with zero and therefore in agreement with the Naive Quark-Parton Model expectation. However limited statistic precision does not allow to exclude other models significantly. Supplementary events with no scattered positron in coincidence with the $\Lambda^0$ - decay products seen in the HERMES-detector have been analysed. They show much better statistic precision, but due to their small averaged $Q^2$ of 0.21 their interpretation in the frame of the Naive Quark-Parton Model is at least questionable. The resulting spin transfer from the lepton beam to the outgoing $\Lambda^0$-Hyperon for this dataset is 0.122 ± 0.047 ± 0.05.

The European physical journal / C 27(1), 27 - 37 (1985). doi:10.1007/BF01642477, Results onK0 and Λ production ine+e− annihilation at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV are presented. The shape of theK0 and Λ differential cross sections are very similar to each other and to those of π±,K± and\(p(\bar p)\). Scaling violations are observed forK0 production. We obtain a value for the probability to produce strange quark-antiquark pairs relative to that to produce up or down quark-antiquark pairs of 0.35±0.02±0.05. The value ofRh=σ(e+e-→hX)/σµµ is shown to rise steadily with c.m. energy for all particle species. At 34 GeV we find 1.48±0.05K0 and 0.31±0.03 Λ per event. We have searched for possible Λ polarization. The production ofK0's and Λ's in jets is examined as a function ofpT2 and rapidity and compared to that of all charged particles; the yields in two and three jets are also investigated. Results are presented from events with two baryons\((\Lambda ,\bar \Lambda ,por\bar p)\) observed., Published by Springer, Heidelberg
