Internal combustion engines have a very important place in biogas production facilities to convert biogas energy to electricity. Unfortunately, although intense studies on improving internal combustion engine efficiencies by operational optimisation methods, serious progress is not achieved yet. However, there are many ways to improve the performance of these engines apart from structural optimisation meth-ods. One of the most important ways is to utilize by integrating jacket water used to cool the biogas fuelled internal combustion engines into the new generation low-temperature heat recovery systems like organic Rankine cycles. In the present study, simple and regenerative organic Rankine cycles were optimised to improve the overall performance of an biogas fuelled internal combustion engine by using the jacket water which is released into the atmosphere after cooling the engine. Also, the energy, exergy and environmental aspect of these systems are evaluated. Finally, exergoeconomic analysis for both sys-tems are conducted, and then payback periods of both systems are determined. As a result of the study, the maximum net power, thermal and exergy efficiencies of the simple organic Rankine cycle was cal-culated as 42.14 kW, 11.47 % and 63.27 % respectively, while the maximum net power, thermal and exergy efficiencies of the regenerative organic Rankine cycle are found as 45.3 kW, 12.34 % and 68.02 %. In addition, it is observed that the maximum power production obtained from the regenerative organic Rankine cycle corresponded to nearly 630 kg CO2/h emission reduction. In parallel with Kyoto, Paris and the green production agreements, the nowadays crucial subject is minimising energy consumption, increasing renewable energy usage and recovering waste heat. When it comes to waste heat, the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology comes fore. However, although the presence of many studies on the ORC in the literature, there is still an intense gap related to information on ORC working conditions, pinch point detection and numerical design and analysis methods. In this respect, the present paper suggests a multi-objective optimization model for an ORC by considering many parameters that affect the performance of the ORC like fluid type, thermodynamic properties of the organic fluids, pinch point temperature etc. For the analyses, experimentally recorded exhaust gas parameters for a reheat furnace located in the iron and steel plant were used. By considering all these, all performance-affecting parameters were included through the development of the multi-objective model. For the analyses, two wet types (ethanol, methanol), two isentropic (acetone, butene), and two dry types (cyclohexane, benzene) working fluids were selected to develop the multi-objective design and optimising method. After comprehensive analyses, it was seen that the developed mathematical model was valid for the designing and analysing of the ORC. In addition, it was observed that the system performance increases as the pinch point temperature difference decreases. In addition, it was seen that isentropic fluids have low efficiency in medium-temperature heat sources. Considering the system performance, initial investment cost and payback periods, it was seen that a waste heat recovery plant using Benzene, Methanol and Ethanol as working fluids is more feasible.

To contribute to the economic viability of waste heat recovery systems application based on the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) under real operation condition of natural gas engines, this article presents a thermoeconomic optimization results using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm of a simple ORC (SORC), regenerative ORC (RORC), and double-stage ORC (DORC) integrated to a GE Jenbacher engine type 6, which have not been reported in the literature. Thermoeconomic modeling was proposed for the studied configurations to integrate the exergetic analysis with economic considerations, allowing to reduce the thermoeconomic indicators that most influence the cash flow of the project. The greatest opportunities for improvement were obtained for the DORC, where the results for maximizing net power allowed the maximum value of 99.52 kW, with 85% and 80% efficiencies in the pump and turbine, respectively, while the pinch point temperatures of the evaporator and condenser must be 35 and 16 °C. This study serves as a guide for future research focused on the thermoeconomic performance optimization of an ORC integrated into a natural gas engine.

Bu tez çalışmasında, hem güneş hem de biyokütle kaynaklı organik Rankine çevrimi (ORC) sistemi incelenmiştir. Çalışma kararlı hal analizi ve dinamik analiz olmak üzere iki aşamadan oluşmaktadır. İlk etapta, kararlı halde temel giriş parametreleri aynı olan 3 tane ORC sistemi seçilmiştir. Bu 3 sistemin aldığı ısı miktarı aynı olup ısıyı aldıkları enerji kaynakları farklıdır. İlk sistem sadece biyokütle enerjisi kaynaklı iken, ikinci sistem güneş enerjisi kaynaklı, üçüncüsü ise hem güneş hem de biyokütle enerjisi (hibrit) kaynaklıdır. Sistemlere enerji, ekserji ve termoekonomik analizler uygulanmıştır. Analizler için, ilk önce sistem bileşenlerini çevreleyen birçok kontrol hacmi oluşturulmuştur. Daha sonra bu kontrol hacimleri etrafında enerji, ekserji ve termoekonomik denge denklemlerinin uygulanıp, her bir durumun termodinamik özellikleri ile elektrik gücü ve ısı transferi etkileşimleri incelenip, ekserji ve birim ekserji başına maliyet hesaplanmıştır. Bu analizler sonucunda, sistemlerin elektriksel ve ekserji verimleri ile elektriğin spesifik maliyetleri (ekserji birimi başına) elde edilip karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci aşamasında ise, hibrit sistemle dinamik analiz incelenmiştir. Bu inceleme kapsamında elektrik şebekesi olmayan küçük çaplı bir işletmeye ORC sistemi ve bataryalarla elektrik gücü sağlanması amaçlanmıştır. İşletmenin saatlik elektrik ihtiyacına göre ORC sisteminin ürettiği elektrik gücü değişken olup ihtiyaca göre bataryalardan elektrik gücü çekilmiş yada bataryalara elektrik gücü depolanmıştır. Dinamik analiz TRNSYS programı ile yapılmış olup, 3 farklı kısmi yük aralığına sahip ORC sisteminin ekonomik olarak karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır., In this thesis, biomass and solar fired organic Rankine cycle (ORC) are examined. There is two parts in this study; steady state analysis and transient analysis. Firstly, three different ORC system is chosen. These systems differ from each other in terms of the energy technology providing the heat transfer to the ORC. For this purpose, biomass burner, parabolic trough solar collector (PTSC), and a combination of those are used. For analyses, numerous control volumes surrounding the system components are formed. Then, applying energy, exergy and thermoeconomic analysis around these control volumes, efficiencies, and cost per unit of exergy are calculated. The effects of biomass type and solar irradiation on the performance and cost are assessed. The energy and exergy-based performance and electricity cost of these systems are also compared with each other for the baseline conditions and different number of PTSCs. In the second stage of the study, dynamic analysis with hybrid system was examined. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to provide electrical power to ORC system and batteries for a small application without electricity grid. The power produced by the ORC system is variable according to the hourly electricity demand of the application, and the electrical power is supplied from the batteries according to the need or the electrical power is stored in the batteries. Dynamic analysis was performed with TRNSYS program and economic comparison of ORC system with 3 different partial load ranges are made.

Energy simulation tools have a major role in the assessment of building energy retrofit (BER) measures. Exergoeconomic analysis and optimisation is a common practice in sectors such as the power generation and chemical processes, aiding engineers to obtain more energy-efficient and cost-effective energy systems designs. ExRET-Opt, a retrofit-oriented modular-based dynamic simulation framework has been developed by embedding a comprehensive exergy/exergoeconomic calculation method into a typical open-source building energy simulation tool (EnergyPlus). The aim of this paper is to show the decomposition of ExRET-Opt by presenting modules, submodules and subroutines used for the framework's development as well as verify the outputs with existing research data. In addition, the possibility to perform multi-objective optimisation analysis based on genetic-algorithms combined with multi-criteria decision making methods was included within the simulation framework. This addition could potentiate BER design teams to perform quick exergy/exergoeconomic optimisation, in order to find opportunities for thermodynamic improvements along the building's active and passive energy systems. The enhanced simulation framework is tested using a primary school building as a case study. Results demonstrate that the proposed simulation framework provide users with thermodynamic efficient and cost-effective designs, even under tight thermodynamic and economic constraints, suggesting its use in everyday BER practice.

The paper describes a systematic framework that uses exergoeconomic theory integrated into ‘building energy retrofit’ (BER) design. An exergoeconomic module, based on the SPECO method, has been embedded into ‘EXRETOpt’, a recently developed retrofit-oriented exergy simulation tool based on EnergyPlus. Both active and passive technologies were analysed using two calibrated archetype non-domestic buildings as case studies (an office and a primary school). A novel cost-benefit indicator which accounts for building exergy destruction cost, retrofit annual capital cost, and project annual revenue is presented. This indicator is employed to account for best exergoeconomic performance technologies and to further develop deep BER packages. Compared to typical practice, exergoeconomics combined with cost-benefit provides a powerful tool for exploration and design improvement of building energy systems. In both cases, final product cost for heating and cooling processes were substantially reduced. In addition, the office case presented improvements in energy use by 67%, CO2 emissions by 53%, thermal comfort by 22%, exergy destructions by 42%, and the overall building exergy efficiency was improved from 14.8% to 20.0%. The school case presented similar results with an improvement of building exergy efficiency from 8.2% to 11.1%, and the potential to generate income due to current government incentives.

This paper aims at showing the capabilities of thermoeconomic analysis for solving cost assessments in district heating systems both at user and producer sides. In the near future it is expected that multiple producers are allowed to supply heat to the same district heating network, similarly to what happens in the case of the electric grid. Not only the amount of heat they may produce should be properly accounted, but also its quality, and also the pumping power that is requested to supply a unity of thermal energy to the end-users. Moreover, buildings equipped with low temperature heating system allow better use of the thermal energy vector, thus allowing larger efficiency of thermal plants. In the present work, the use of thermoeconomics for the analysis of these aspects is proposed. The approach allows one performing cost assessment in district heating, taking into account the effects of investment and operating costs and thermodynamic irreversibilities in the cost formation of heat from its production in the plants to its use in the buildings. Simple examples are analyzed in order to provide a quantitative evaluation of the various cost terms, depending on the operating conditions, topology and characteristics of the users/producers.

Bu çalışmada, mevcut sistemlerde çoğunlukla kullanılan CFC grubu soğutucu akışkanlardan R12, R22, ve R502 soğutucu akışkanları yerine, HFC grubu soğutucu akışkanlarından R134a, R152a, R125, R143a ve R32 soğutucu akışkanları ve HC grubundan R290 ve R600a soğutucu akışkanları kullanılmıştır. Daha önce belirlenmiş optimum karışım oranları temel alınarak alternatif soğutucu akışkan olarak, altı adet ikili, dört adet üçlü soğutucu akışkan karışımı, buhar sıkıştırmalı soğutma sisteminde çalışma akışkanı olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu soğutucu akışkanların kullanıldığı soğutma sisteminde bulunan elemanların termodinamik ve ekonomik (yatırım, işletme maliyeti) yönden analizi yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda termodinamiğin birinci ve ikinci kanununa göre soğutma sisteminin analizi yapılmıştır. Soğutucu akışkanlar ve karışımlarıyla ilgili termofiziksel özelliklerin elde edilebildiği REFPROP 8.0 yazılımı kullanılarak soğutma çevrimlerinin istenilen noktalardaki termofiziksel özellik değerleri alınmıştır. Buharlaşma ve yoğuşma bölgelerinde, basınç değerleri değiştirilerek, soğutma sistemlerine I. Kanun analizi (soğutma tesir katsayısı incelenmesi) ve II. Kanun analizi (tersinmezliklerin incelenmesi) yapılmış ve tüm soğutma sistemi termoekonomik optimizasyona tabi tutulmuştur. Termoekonomik optimizasyon yöntemi olarak yapısal bağ katsayısı yöntemi (CSB) kullanılarak yoğuşturucu ve buharlaştırıcının etkenlik katsayıları (ε) optimize edilmiştir. Optimizasyon sonucunda, optimum yoğuşturucu ve buharlaştırıcı basınç değerlerine karşılık optimum etkinlik katsayıları bulunmuştur. In this study, most used refrigerants in current systems, three of the CFCs, R12, R22 and R502 and five of the HCFs, R134a, R152a, R125, R143a and R32, and two of the HCs, R290 and R600a, are used as alternative refrigerants. Based upon previously determined optimum mixture ratios, six binary and four ternary refrigerant mixtures are used as working fluids in a vapour compression refrigeration system. Refrigeration system components using as working fluids of refrigerant mixtures above mentioned are analysed based on thermodynamics and economical (investment cost, refrigeration system operation cost) point of views. Thermophysical property values of intended points in refrigeration cycles are taken from REFPROP 8.0 software which gives refrigerant and refrigerant mixtures thermophysical properties. First law analysis (observation of coefficient of analysis) and second law analysis (examination of irreversibility) are carried out by changing pressure values at evaporation and condensation area and then the whole system has been assessed to thermoeconomic optimization. Effectiveness coefficients of condenser and evaporator are optimized by using coefficient of structural bond method (CSB). At the end of the optimization, optimum condenser and evaporator pressures of heat exchangers effectiveness coefficients corresponding to these pressures are determined. 130

Bu çalışmada öncelikle gıda sektörlerine genel bir bakış ile enerjinin önemi vurgulanmıştır. Gıda sektöründeki enerji verimliliği için termodinamik kanun verimlilikleri incelenmiştir. Enerji verimliliği ve enerji yönetimi için örnek olarak şeker sektörü ele alınmıştır. Bu sebep ile Türkiye'nin en büyük kuruluşlarından Konya Çumra Şeker fabrikası entegre tesisi çalışmada göz önüne alınarak enerji ve ekserji analizleri uygulanmıştır. Fabrikanın tüm proseslerinin enerji ve ekserji analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ayrıca fabrikanın 2008 ile 2011 yılları arasında enerji yönetimi için enerji tüketim miktarları çıkarılmıştır. Bu çalışmalar ışığı altında proseslerde iyileştirme sağlayabilmek için değişik senaryolarla analizler yapılmıştır. Bu senaryolar sonucunda da termoekonomik analizler uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışmalara destek olması açısından SPSS İstatiksel Metottan faydalanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak fabrikanın enerji ? ekserji analiz sonuçlarına göre yapılan termoekonomik analiz ile fabrika karının arttırılabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. This study emphasizes the importance of energy with an overview of the entire food sector. Energy efficiencies related to thermodynamic laws are investigatedfor the food sector. Energy efficiency and energy management are discussed taking the sugar sector as an example. For this reason the Cumra Sugar integratedfactoryin Konya, one of the Turkey's largest companies, was taken into account to perform the energy and exergy analyzes are realized. Energy and exergy analyzes of all the processes in the plant. In addition, the energy performance analysis of the factory is determined for the energy managementbetween the years 2008 and 2011 purposes. In the light of these studies, different system scenarios are carried out to improve energy consumption quantity. According to the results of these scenarios thermoeconomic analyzes are applied. SPSS statistical method was utilized in these studies to present the results. As a result, it is concluded that using the results of thermoeconomic analysis based on the plant energy ? exergy analysis, the profits of the factory would be improved. 235

Bu çalışmada; kaskat soğutma sisteminin enerji, ekserji ve maliyet analizleri araştırıldı. Termodinamik analiz, Gaziantep şehri ve değişmeyen bir soğutucu akışkan çifti için yapıldı. Soğutma yükü, soğutulan bölge sıcaklığı ve bütün ısı eşanjörleri içindeki buharlaşma ve yoğuşma esnasındaki sıcaklıklar sabit olarak kabul edildi. Bu çalışmada dikkate alınan işletim ve tasarım parametreleri; yoğuşturucunun fan hızını, buharlaştırıcının fan hızını, HTS ve LTS kompresörlerinin izentropik verimlerini içermektedir. Birinci olarak; giren ekserji maliyeti ve Gaziantep şehri şartlarındaki işletim maliyeti arasında ödünleşim yapılarak içeriğinde ilk yatırım ve işletim maliyetlerini bulunduran toplam maliyet hesaplaması ve akabinde her bir parametrenin toplam maliyete olan etkisinin belirlenmesi yapıldı. İkinci olarak; sezonluk dış ortam sıcaklığı değişiminin dikkate alınmasıyla elde edilen yıllık işletim maliyetinin belirlenmesi pratik bir enerji tasarrufu kıyaslama zemini teşkil eder. Mevcut termodinamik analizin sonuçları gösterdi ki; Eğer LTS ve HTS kompresör izentropik verimlilikleri, hava-soğutmalı yoğuşturucu ve buharlaştırıcı fan hızları gibi karar parametreleri optimize edilirse kaskat soğutma sisteminin yıllık maliyeti yüzde 30.86 oranında azaltılabilir. Eğer dış ortam sıcaklık değişimi dikkate alınır ise sistemin yıllık toplam işletim maliyeti yüzde 11 oranında ve yıllık toplam maliyeti yüzde 2.36 oranında azaltılabilir. Nihai olarak, bu çalışmada kullanılan yaklaşıma göre yıllık maliyet tasarrufunun tamamı yaklaşık yüzde 33.22 oranındadır. In this study, energy, exergy, and cost analyses of cascade refrigeration system is investigated. Thermodynamic analysis is conducted for the Gaziantep city environment temperature for a fixed refrigerant couple. The cooling load, refrigerated space temperature and the temperatures during evaporation and condensations in all heat exchangers are considered to be constant. The operation and design parameters considered in this study include condenser fan velocity, evaporator fan velocity, isentropic efficiency of HTS compressor and isentropic efficiency of LTS compressor. Firstly, estimation of total cost including investment cost and operation cost at Gaziantep dead state by trade-off between the input exergy cost and capital (purchase) cost then determination of the effect of each parameter on total cost are conducted. Secondly determination of operation cost per year by means of the dead state temperature variation seasons gives a practical energy saving comparison basis. Results of the present thermodynamic analysis showed that; a minimum annual cost was found for the decision parameters such as LTS and HTS compressor efficiencies, air cooled condenser and evaporator fan velocities. The total annual cost of the cascade refrigeration system can be reduced by 30.86 percent in comparison to the medium range selected. The total annual operation cost of the system can be decreased by 11 percent in comparison with operation cost of initial design and the total annual cost can be decreased by 2.36 percent where the environment temperature variation taken into account. Finally the sum of annual cost saving about 33.22 percent according to the approach in this study. 100

Bu çalışmada, Zonguldak Çatalağzı'nda kurulu bulunan 160 MW kapasiteli termik santralin ekserji ve termoekonomik analizi yapılarak performansı değerlendirilmiştir. Ekserji analizinde, sistem ve bileşenleri için ekserji verimleri, ekserji yıkımları ve iyileştirme potansiyelleri hesaplanmıştır. Termoekonomik analizde ise SPECO ve MOPSA metotları kullanılmış ve her iki metoda göre termik santralden üretilen elektriğin birim ekserji maliyeti belirlenmiştir. Ekserji analizi sonucunda, sistemde en düşük ekserji verimine sahip ekipmanların sırasıyla %29.95 ile kondanser ve %33.24 ile kazan olduğu tespit edilmiş, sistemin toplam ekserji verimi ise %39.89 olarak bulunmuştur. Sistemde en yüksek ekserji yıkımının sırasıyla 166492.26 kW ile kazanda ve 11608.33 kW ile kondanserde meydana geldiği tespit edilmiştir. Sistemdeki toplam ekserji yıkımı ise 217773.65 kW olarak bulunmuştur. Sistemde, 111150.23 kW ile kazan ve 8131.64 kW ile kondanserin en yüksek iyileştirme potansiyeline sahip ekipmanlar olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sistemin toplam iyileştirmepotansiyeli ise 130903.74 kW olarak bulunmuştur. Santralde üretilen elektriğin birim ekserji maliyeti, SPECO metoduna göre 12.14 $/GJ olarak bulunurken, MOPSA metoduna göre ise 14.06 $/GJ olarak bulunmuştur. Üretilen elektriğin birim ekserji maliyeti için farklı sonuçlar elde edilmesinin nedenleri; her iki metodun farklı prensiplere sahip olması ve her iki metot için yapılması gereken farklı kabullerden kaynaklandığı düşünülmektedir. In this study, the performance of the power plant with 160 MW capacity located in Zonguldak Catalagzi was evaluated by performing exergy and thermoeconomics analysis. Exergy efficiencies, exergy destructions and improvement potentials for the system and its components were calculated in the exergy analysis. As for thermoeconomics analysis, SPECO and MOPSA methods were used and the unit exergy cost of electricity produced by plant was defined in respect to both methods. As a result of exergy analysis, it was determined that the equipments having minimum exergy efficiency in the system are the condenser with %29.95 and the boiler with %33.24 and the overall exergy efficiency of the system was found to be %39.89. It was determined that the highest exergy destruction in the system occurs in the boiler with 166492.26 kW and in the condenser with 11608.33 kW, respectively. The overall exergy destruction of the system was found to be 217773.65 kW. It was defined that the equipments having highest improvement potential in the system arethe boiler with 111150.23 kW and the condenser with 8131.64 kW. The overall improvement potential of the system was found to be 130903.74 kW. The unit exergy cost of electricity produced by plant was found to be 14.06 $/GJ in respect to MOPSA, while it was found to be 12.14 $/GJ in respect to SPECO. It is thought that the reasons of obtaining different results for the unit exergy cost electricity produced are result from that both methods have different principles and different assumptions are required for both methods. 96

Birçok kimyasal proseste enerji kullanımının çok önemli bir yeri vardır. Çeşitli maddelerin değişime uğratıldığı bu tür proseslerde, enerji maliyeti toplam üretim maliyetinin önemli bir kısmını kapsar. Bu maliyetin minimum düzeyde tutulması, proseslerin termoekonomik analizleri yapılarak iyileştirilmeleri ile sağlanabilir.Petrol rafinerilerinde genellikle enerjinin yoğun olarak kullanıldığı prosesler yer alır. Bu proseslerde enerji tüketimi ve enerji kayıpları fazladır. Petrol rafinerilerinde ısıl enerjinin büyük bir kısmı rafinerinin ilk ünitesi olan ham petrol destilasyon ünitesinde kullanılır. Bu durumda, destilasyon ünitelerinin termoekonomik analizleri yapılarak iyileştirilmeleri, enerji tasarrufu ve dolayısıyla maliyeti düşürme açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır.Bu çalışmada, SimSci Pro/II 8.2 proses benzetim programı yardımıyla, TÜPRAŞ İzmit rafinerisindeki bir ham petrol destilasyon ünitesinin enerji, ekserji ve termoekonomik analizleri yapılmıştır. Ayrıca, çalışma şartlarının ekserji verimi üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Energy usage is a significant aspect of many chemical processes. For these types of processes where various materials undergo substantial transformations, energy cost represents an important part of the overall production cost. Maintaining the cost of energy at its minimum level may be ensured by conducting thermoeconomic analysis.Petroleum refineries are energy intensive processes. Energy consumption and energy losses are excessive in these processes. Most of thermal energy used in petroleum refineries is consumed in crude oil distillation units. Therefore, conducting the thermoeconomic analysis of distillation units and thus improving their performance, is of utmost importance to ensure energy saving and related cost minimization.In this thesis, the thermoeconomic analyses of a crude oil distillation unit of TÜPRAŞ İzmit refinery were done based on mass, energy and exergy balances with the aid of SimSci Pro/II 8.2 process simulation software. Also, the effects of varying the operating conditions on exergy efficiency were investigated. 151

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'de çalışmakta olan bir termik santralin II. ünitesine termoekonomik metodu uygulanarak ünite ekipmanlarının her birinin termoekonomik analizi ve değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır.Yapılacak olan analizin daha kolay anlaşılması için başlangıçta genel termodinamik kavramları ve bağıntıları özetlenmiştir. Daha sonra enerji, ekserji, ekserji komponentleri ve termoekonomik hesaplama yöntemi bağıntıları ile verilerek özetlenmiştir.Uygulama bölümünde ise termik santralin ünitesinde belirlenen yirmi yedi düğüm noktasının termodinamik özellikleri belirlenmiş, bu belirlemelere göre her bir düğümün enerji ve ekserji değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Bulunan sonuçlar ile her ekipmanın ayrı ayrı enerji ve ekserji dengeleri kurularak ortalama ekserji maliyetleri belirlenmiş, kayıp ve tahrip olan enerji ve ekserjiler bulunmuş, yok olan ekserji oranı belirlenerek eksergoekonomik faktörler çıkarılmıştır. Bütün bu verilerin doğrultusunda sonuçlar grafiksel olarak değerlendirilmiş ve ekipmanlar birbirleri ile karşılaştırılmıştır.Son kısmında ise sonuçlar arasında bağlantı kurularak düzeltme yapılabilecek ekipmanlar belirtilerek çözüm önerileri verilmiştir. In this study thermoeconomic analysis and evaluation of each unit of a thermal power plant, running in Turkey, is done to II. unit by applying the method of thermoeconomic.In order to make it easier to be understood general thermodynamic concepts and correlations of the analysis which is going to be done are summerized from the beginning. Then energy, exergy, components of exergy and correlations of thermoeconomic calculation methods have been summarized.In application section, thermodynamic features of twenty seven knot points detected at unit of thermal power plant have been defined, each knot?s energy and exergy values have been calculated according to the findings. With the results gained, every equipment avarage exergy costs have been determined by setting energy and exergy balances, lost and destroyed energy and exergies have been found, exergoeconomic factors have been put out by determining the eliminated exergy ratio. Results have been evaluated graphically and equipments have been compared to each other according to these data.At the last part solution offers have been given by determining editible equipments by making a connection among results. 101

Enerjinin yoğun olarak kullanıldığı ve/veya değişime uğratıldığı proseslerde, enerji maliyeti proses maliyetinin önemli bir kısmını oluşturur. Dolayısıyla, bir prosesin toplam maliyetinin minimum düzeyde tutulması, termodinamik analizlerin yapılarak prosesin iyileştirilmesi ve enerji maliyetinin düşürülmesi ile sağlanabilir.Hem konvansiyonel elektrik üretim proseslerinde, hem de elektrik ile ısıl enerjinin ortak üretimini amaçlayan ve bu bakımdan ayrı olarak sürdürülen üretim proseslerine göre daha büyük bir birincil enerjiyi tasarruf etme potansiyeline sahip olan kojenerasyon proseslerinde, enerji tüketimi ve enerji kayıpları fazla olduğundan, sistem bileşenlerinin ve tüm sistemin termodinamik analizleri yapılarak verimliliğin arttırılması, enerji tasarrufu ve buna bağlı olarak enerji maliyetini ve dolayısıyla toplam maliyeti düşürme açısından önem taşımaktadır. Bu tip sistemler, termodinamiğin birinci ve ikinci yasaları kullanılarak analiz edilebilir ve ekserji analizi olarak bilinen bu analiz çalışmaları sonucunda sistemler, verimlilik ve ekonomik açıdan değerlendirilebilir. Elde edilen sonuçlar temelinde, yüksek enerji verimine ve düşük maliyete sahip sistemler tasarlanabilir.Bu çalışmada, ERDEMİR Ereğli Demir ve Çelik Fabrikası'na ait ve her biri 40 MW gücünde iki adet gaz türbini, gaz türbinlerinin egzoz gazlarının değerlendirildiği toplam 160 ton/saat buhar üretim kapasiteli iki adet atık ısı kazanı, toplam elektrik üretim gücü 90 MW olan dört adet türbin-jeneratör grubu, hava üfleme kapasiteleri sırasıyla 3600, 4500, 3700 m3/dak olan üç adet türbin-körük grubu, nominal işletmede 25 MW gücünde elektrik üretimi yapan bir türbin-jeneratör-körük grubu ve toplam buhar üretim kapasitesi 600 ton/saat olan beş adet buhar kazanından oluşan kojenerasyon ve konvansiyonel elektrik üretim tesisleri incelenmiştir. Çalışma şartları ile ilgili veriler toplanarak, Thermoflex paket programı kullanılarak tesisin benzetimi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular mevcut proses verileri ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Kütle, enerji, ekserji ve maliyet denklikleri kurularak, sisteme ait her bir birimin ve tüm sistemin ekserji ve termoekonomik analizleri yapılmıştır. Energy usage is a significant aspect of many processes. For processes where energy is intensively used or/and undergo substantial transformation, the cost of energy represents an important part of overall costs. Thus maintaining total costs at minimum level may be ensured only through conducting thermodynamic analyses and decreasing the energy costs.Since the energy consumption and energy losses are excessive in conventional electrical energy generation processes and in cogeneration processes - processes developed to produce both electricity and thermal energy generally in the form of steam or hot water, and thus with great potential of saving primary energy in comparison to separate generation processes - conducting thermodynamic analyses for each equipment and for overall plant, and then improving them, is of utmost importance to ensure energy saving and related cost minimization. For these types of systems, thermodynamic analyses based on the first and second law of thermodynamics known as energy and exergy analyses are done to attain high efficiency and cost effectiveness.In this study, the cogeneration and conventional electrical energy generation plants of ERDEMİR Ereğli Iron and Steel Factory was studied. There are two gas turbines each of 40 MW, two waste heat boilers processing the exhaust gas from gas turbines of 160 ton/h total capacity, four turbine-generator groups of 90 MW total electricity generation power, three turbine-blower groups of 3600, 4500, 3700 m3/min capacities, one turbine-generator-blower group of 25 MW nominal electricity generation power, five steam generators of 600 ton/h total steam generation capacity in the system to be studied. The operation conditions were measured, the simulation of the process was done by using the Thermoflex process simulation software, and the results obtained were compared with the existing process data. The mass, energy, exergy and cost balance equations were developed, and the exergy and thermoeconomic analyses were done individually for each main piece of equipment in the system and for overall system. 198

Se estima el efecto de la altitud sobre el diagnóstico termoeconómico de un sistema de cogeneración con turbina de gas. Para aislar este efecto se mantuvo constante la relación másica aire-combustible en la cámara de combustión. La variación de las condiciones del ambiente con la altitud se realizó por medio de un modelo hidrostático, considerando el aire como gas ideal y asumiendo variación lineal de la temperatura. Las condiciones del estado muerto se tomaron tanto constantes como variables para efectos de comparación. Al incrementar la altitud disminuye la densidad del aire, causando una caída de potencia en el sistema de aproximadamente 20%. Se encontró que ésta es la principal causa de disminución de la tasa de costo asociada al producto total. El costo exergético unitario del producto del sistema se incrementa cerca de 3% a 3000 metros sobre el nivel del mar (msnm), lo que significa que a mayor altitud cuesta más producir cada unidad de potencia. In this work the altitude effect on the thermoeconomic diagnosis of a gas turbine cogeneration system has been determined. In order to isolate this effect, the air-fuel ratio was fixed in the combustion chamber. The variation of environmental conditions with altitude was done by means of a hydrostatic model, taking air as an ideal gas and assuming linear temperature variation. For comparison purposes dead state conditions were taken both constant and variable. Air density decreases for increasing altitude, causing a power drop in the system of about 20%. It was found that this is the main reason for the total product cost rate decreasing. The total product cost per exergy unit increase up to 3% for 3000 m above sea level, which means that it is more expensive to produce every power unit as altitude increases.
