Exclusive breastfeeding is an Indonesian government program in reducing mortality and morbidity of infants. Exclusive breastfeeding percentage in Indonesia have not met the target. There was a decrease of 18.7% in exclusive breastfeeding in Sreseh, Madura. National percentage of breastfeeding is 80%; East Java percentage of breastfeeding is 61.9%; Sampang Regency percentage of breastfeeding is 46.8%, and in Sreseh, Madura is 42.4%. This study aimed to explain the exclusive breastfeeding based on the health promotion model theory. The study used descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The total population was 221 people selected by simple random sampling resulted in 85 respondents as samples. Inclusion criteria were mothers who have babies aged 6-12 months. The instrument used was the questionnaire then analyzed using validity and reliability tests. The chi-square test with a significance level a <0.05 was applied for the bivariate test. The dependent variables in this study were the benefits of action, self-efficacy, interpersonal factors, and situational factors. The finding showed a correlation between the benefits of action (p=0.000), self-efficacy (p=0.000), interpersonal influence (p=0.000), and situational influence (p=0.000) with exclusive breastfeeding. The benefits of action, self-efficacy, interpersonal influences, and situational influences in the Health Promotion Model have a correlation with exclusive breastfeeding. Self-efficacy is the most dominant factor compared to other factors related to exclusive breastfeeding. Therefore, self-efficacy needs to be improved in mothers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the major health programs in the world. The prevalence of nonexclusive breastfeeding is very high in Indonesian women, especially Madurese women. This study was aimed to investigate factors associated with giving exclusive breastfeeding based on transcultural nursing. This study was used analytical descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The population was all mothers who have babies 6 to 12 months of age. A total of 289 sample were chosen by cluster sampling. The independent variables in this research are technological factors, religious & philosophical factors, social factors, cultural values & lifeways, political & legal factors, economic factors, and educational factors. The type of exclusive breastfeeding depends on the baby's mother. Data were collected by using a questionnaire and analyzed by using a chi-square test with a degree of significance α <0.05. The result showed a correlation between technological factor (p=0.000), religious & philosophical factor (p=0.000), social factor (p=0.000), cultural values & lifeways (p=0.000), political & legal factors was correlation, economic factors (p=0.000), and educational factors (p=0.000) with exclusive breastfeeding. All factors in transcultural nursing have a correlation with exclusive breastfeeding, and technological factors are most associated with exclusive breastfeeding than other transcultural nursing factors. Further research was suggested for using qualitative methods or observations and increase exclusive breastfeeding rates with effective health education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
