The article discusses the primitive counting, tally marks, and the progress of mathematics. It says that the primitive form of counting involved the correspondence between the objects to be counted and other convenient set of objects, such as the fingers of one's hand. It also states that the process of counting evolves into a more sophisticated process of tally marks on bones or stones. Furthermore, ancient civilizations had their own positional notation and grouping scheme by using symbols.
