Positive consideration of software engineering codes of ethics by computing educators promotes inclusion in the teaching of software development courses. For computing educators, this is significant because they contribute immensely to the development of software engineering graduates, not only in terms of teaching technical skills but also in ethical development. This study aims to investigate the perceived importance of codes of ethics by lecturers who teach software development courses at a University of Technology in South Africa. The data was collected using an online survey from 103 educators from two computing departments in a South African UoT; 44 responses were received. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to evaluate the responses; the Pearson Chi-square test was applied to assess the level of association between variables of interest for more conclusive results in addressing the objective of the study. The results of this study indicated that the majority of participants were males; female participants amounted only to 18.2 per cent. Results also reported that most participants agreed with all the statements tested to determine the perceived importance of Software Engineering Codes of Ethics to educators. In addition, an association was presented between the importance of a software engineering code of ethics to an educator and three other variables (the need to teach students about ethical behaviour, an obligation for software engineers to consider the ethical implications of their systems and sex of the respondents) respectively. This study recommended that institutions of higher learning consider finding permanent ways of inculcating a culture of ethical conduct into its staff members, encouraging educators to take up professional memberships with professional bodies. These measures will ensure that software development educators are trained to maintain high standards within their profession, embracing the use and adherence to a code of ethics in the teaching of software development courses. With the emergence of Internet technology, Internet ethics has become an important issue for academics and practitioners. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence students' behavioural intention to perform an Internet ethical behaviour based on an integrated perspective of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), Big-Five personality traits, and Internet ethics education. This study empirically examines the research model using a cross-sectional survey study, collecting data from a sample of 276 students, and using partial least squares (PLS) for the analysis. The results show that intention of performing Internet ethical behaviours is influenced by attitude toward ethical behaviour, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control. Moreover, personality trait agreeableness is positively related to attitude toward ethical behaviour and subjective norms. Conscientiousness and openness are positively correlated with attitude toward ethical behaviour, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control. Finally, the existence of an Internet ethics curriculum significantly strengthened the positive relationship between attitude toward ethical behaviour and intention of performing Internet ethical behaviours. The findings enhance our understanding of the relationship between students' Internet ethical behaviour and Internet ethics education. The results also provide several important theoretical and practical implications for Internet ethics education within the university education context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRITICAL thinking ,VIDEO games ,ETHICS ,GAMES ,ELASTICITY - Abstract
Videogames are ‘ethical objects’ (Sicart, 2009, 4) and therefore constitute an excellent medium through which to teach users about ethics and ethical behaviour. Specifically, the interactive nature of videogames makes them effectively more powerful for immersive and emotionally engaging experiences (Sylvester, 2013; Sicart, 2013). As a result, the impact of ethically or morally questionable choices in a game is increased. This leads to the question of how such choices can be incorporated in videogames, and in which ways ethically or morally questionable choices can affect players? Crucial elements for meaningful choices are agency and significant feedback, so the ‘rigidity’ or ‘elasticity’ (Schallegger, 2016, p. 43–44) of a game’s system plays an important role. To what degree, however, does the game’s design influence players’ decisions? Put another way, how are game designers pushing their players into certain directions or actions, and how much leeway are the players given to push back? Additionally, it is important to consider how game designers invite people to make ethical decisions and teach players about ethical behaviour. To answer these questions, I conducted an in-depth analysis of Life is Strange(Dontnod Entertainment, 2015) focusing on design elements which have the potential to elicit ethically cognizant responses and consider the degree of elasticity in the game’s system with regard to moral and ethical choices, and their impact. I will show how the developers of Life is Strange purposefully disrupt players’ immersion to maximise emotional impact and invite critical reflection on moral and ethical decisions. Are ethical public organisations more likely to realize innovation? The public administration literature is ambiguous about this relationship, with evidence being largely anecdotal and focused mainly on the ethical implications of business‐like behaviour and positive deviance, rather than how ethical behaviour and culture may contribute to innovation. In this paper we examine the effects of ethical culture and ethical leadership on reported realized innovation, using 2017 survey data from the Australia Public Service Commission (n = 80,316). Our findings show that both ethical culture at the working group‐level and agency‐level as well as ethical leadership have significant positive associations with realized innovation in working groups. The findings are robust across agency, work location, job level, tenure, education, and gender and across different samples. We conclude our paper with theoretical and practical implications of our research findings. This article examines the effects of ethical culture and ethical leadership on innovation in the Australian Public Service (APS). We find that both ethical culture at the working group level and agency level as well as ethical leadership have significant and positive associations with public sector innovation in working groups. LOCUS of control ,BEHAVIOR ,ORGANIZATIONAL change ,RESPONSIBILITY - Abstract
This exploratory paper provides social context for platform corporations and examples of ethical transgressions by them and then canvasses the role of various organizational actors in controlling the ethical behaviour of 'platforms', which may be seen to be more than usually problematic in this regard. From this survey, the conclusion is drawn that there may be no single actor that offers sufficient leverage to change organizational ethical behaviour. The paper then suggests the Shared Responsibility Model as a possible conceptual framework for a better understanding of the issue of ethical control and recommends practical interventions that may assist in realizing ethical behaviour by platforms that more closely aligns with societal expectations. The paper offers a caution about the side-effects of interventions to improve ethical behaviour, before concluding by pointing out implications of these findings for state-actor regulators and avenues for future research. Due to the economic globalization which is characterized with business scandals, scholars and practitioners are increasingly engaged with the implementation of codes of ethics as a regulatory mechanism for stimulating ethical behaviours within an organization. The aim of this study is to examine various organizational practices regarding the effective implementation of codes of ethics within construction contracting companies. Views on ethics management in construction organizations together with the recommendations for improvement were gleaned through 19 semi-structured interviews, involving construction practitioners from various construction companies in Hong Kong. The findings suggested some practices for effective implementation of codes of ethics in order to diffuse ethical behaviours in an organizational setting which include; introduction of effective reward schemes, arrangement of ethics training for employees, and leadership responsiveness to reported wrongdoings. Since most of the construction companies in Hong Kong have codes of ethics, emphasis is made on the practical implementation of codes within the organizations. Hence, implications were drawn from the recommended measures to guide construction companies and policy makers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasingly it is recognised that the background characteristics of employees in the hotel industry affect their ethical behaviour in the service delivery process. In particular, the gender of employees in the hotel industry has been shown to affect the ethical conduct of employees. Despite this recognition, few empirical studies in Ghana have examined the relationship between the gender of employees in the hotel industry and their ethical behaviour. Based on a cross-sectional survey of 320 randomly sampled hotel employees in the Kumasi Metropolis, Ghana, this paper will investigate the relationship between the gender of hotel employees and ethical behaviour in the performance of their daily service delivery roles. Data will be analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. Findings suggest that there are more male (60%) employees than females (40%) in the hotel industry in Kumasi. More males than females (66.4 versus 33.6%) also occupy managerial positions. However, females were more likely to exhibit ethical conduct in the service delivery process than their male counterparts. The implications of these findings will be discussed. Conclusions will be drawn and recommendation for further research will also be indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As Campbell (2008) skillfully explains, "the field of ethics in teaching as a moral profession is a robust and compelling one. It captures the interest and imagination of scholars, researchers, and practitioners alike because it is very important and integral to the world of education" (p.21). Similarly, in many EFL countries including Iran, professional ethics has recently turned into a crucial topic. Consequently, further researches regarding the notion of ethics, its components and whether experience plays a role in this regard, need to be carried out. Throughout the current article, the researchers, at first place, illustrated the importance of professional ethics in teaching through a thorough review of literature. Afterwards, a previously localized code of professional ethics, which was transformed into a validated instrument for data collection, was deployed to gather data from 200 EFL male and female university instructors. Pearson Correlation was administered to investigate the probable relation between EFL university instructors' teaching experience and their understanding of professional ethics. Also, to prioritize the components of professional ethics based on EFL instructors' perspective, Friedman test was deployed and the results are disused according to EFL teaching learning context. Africans, like people elsewhere in the world, have a set of values which they consider worthwhile and necessary for the preservation and wellbeing of their culture. In this way, it may be said that societal values are embodied in and communicated by its system of education and that the education that a society offers its youth reflects the sum total of what is held dear in that society. In many African societies, an important aspect of traditional education is concerned with teaching oral literature using folktales, riddles and proverbs which aim at moulding character and providing children with moral values like honesty, integrity, courage and solidarity. This paper examines the relevance of folktales to the promotion of social values in Africa by demonstrating how folktales can open a window of understanding to a community's social norms, values, thoughts, concepts and ideas with a view to drawing implications for positive change. It is predicated on the assumption that African folktales, with a particular focus on Cameroon, promote social and ethical values, provide human understanding, facilitate the elimination of anti-social behaviour and help with social identity construction. The point is that folktales, as a form of oral literature, draw their material from the realities of society and hence reflect people's values and worldview. As a result, folktales are often used as a vehicle for transmitting and preserving shared values and collective experience. The paper concludes by observing that despite the preponderance of modern means of entertainment in Africa, storytelling persists. Contemporary African folktales are imaginatively refined for the purpose of injecting new meanings, ideas and values, based on society's contemporary experiences and relations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper examines ethics in financial planning in the context of the events that have occurred in the Australian economic and regulatory environment in the last decade and provides empirical evidence of the ethical behaviour of financial advisers in Australia. Design/ methodology/ approach: A mixed methods research design was employed using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with financial advisers and clients. Client participants were randomly recruited using the Unaddressed Mail Service (UMS) and financial adviser participants were randomly selected from Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) holders/representatives. The study used qualitative data mining software (Leximancer) and statistical software (SPSS) to analyse the results. Findings: Clients ranked financial advisers highly on their technical competence but lowest on social/ethical awareness, nonetheless clients generally found their most recent financial adviser to be ethical and possessing the necessary technical competencies. Furthermore, clients rated the ethical values of financial advisers as more important than technical competence and advisers were found to genuinely care for their clients. Both clients and advisers acknowledged that rogue advisers give other more ethical advisers a bad name and that education has an important role to play in this regard. Practical / social implications: Findings support both a code of ethics and ongoing professional development for advisers and suggest an ethics curriculum is desirable. Originality: This is the first study to explore ethical behaviour of financial advisers in Australia from both the client and adviser perspectives using a mixed method approach. Objective Partnerships between service users and social workers are complex in nature and can be driven by both personal and contextual circumstances. This study sought to explore the relationship between social workers' involvement in shared decision making with service users, their attitudes towards service users in poverty, moral standards and health and social care organizations' policies towards shared decision making. Methods Based on the responses of 225 licensed social workers from health and social care agencies in the public, private and third sectors in Israel, path analysis was used to test a hypothesized model. Results Structural attributions for poverty contributed to attitudes towards people who live in poverty, which led to shared decision making. Also, organizational support in shared decision making, and professional moral identity, contributed to ethical behaviour which led to shared decision making. Conclusion The results of this analysis revealed that shared decision making may be a scion of branched roots planted in the relationship between ethics, organizations and Stigma. The modern hyper-separation of economy from ecology has severed the ties that people have with environments and species that sustain life. A first step towards strengthening resilience at a human scale involves appreciating, caring for and repairing the longstanding ecological relationships that have supported life over the millennia. The capacity to appreciate these relationships has, however, been diminished by a utilitarian positioning of natural environments by economic science. Ecologists have gone further in capturing the interdependence of economies and ecologies with the concept of socio-ecological resilience. Of concern, however, is the persistence of a vision of an economy ordered by market determinations in which there is no role for ethical negotiation between humans and with the non-human world. This paper reframes economy–ecology relations, resituating humans within ecological communities and resituating non-humans in ethical terms. It advances the idea of community economies (as opposed to capitalist economies) and argues that these must be built if we are to sustain life in the Anthropocene. The argument is illustrated with reference to two construction projects situated in ‘Monsoon Asia’. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this research was to perform an exploratory study on the knowledge and understanding of the King III code among Human Resources (HR) managers in South African companies. The King III code is a comprehensive international corporate governance regime which addresses the financial, social, ethical and environmental practices of organisations. HR management plays a role in managing corporate governance by using the King III code as a guideline. The main research questions were: Does HR management know, understand, apply, and have the ability to use the King III code in terms of ethical decision-making? What role does HR management play in corporate governance? A random sample of available HR managers, senior HR consultants and HR directors was taken and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The results indicated that the respondents had no in-depth knowledge of the King III code. They did not fully understand the King III code and its implications nor did they use it to ensure ethical management. The themes most emphasised by the participants were: culture, reward and remuneration, policies and procedures and performance management. The participants emphasised the importance of these items and HR's role in managing them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In all countries around the world, the duties of the soldier are codified in detail, but in very different ways, according to the various histories, and cultural backgrounds of the respective Nations. As this soldier has the right to legally use a powerful lethal force, a lot is required from him, which is normal. He is now most often a professional. He has mainly to master perfectly his weapons, to respect the Law of Armed Conflicts and to apply the principle of humanity. As custodians of an important section of Africa's past and advocates for the value of the past in the present/future, archaeologists working in universities, museums and heritage agencies or as commercial consultants are in positions of high responsibility. Most often neither the scale of the work involved, nor its significance, are matched adequately by the number of people employed or the level of remuneration. Archaeologists struggle under recurrently difficult working conditions and yet manage to deliver astonishing levels of service across Africa. This paper considers best practice in African archaeology and then asks whether this is being achieved in all sectors of the archaeological discipline. It considers the set of ethical values that should underpin good practice in African archaeology and the actions that need to be taken to enact these values more widely. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Orientation: As background to the study it can be stated that the ethical conduct of employees in an organisation is of paramount importance to the successful operations of an organisation, both real and perceived. In recent times the ethical conduct of employees has received extensive publicity and, as such, has emphasised the impact of organisational ethics on the global competitiveness of organisations. Research purpose: The main aim of the paper is to analyse the impact of business ethics in the Eastern Cape Motor Industry Cluster (ECMIC) and the different perceptions regarding such ethics. This is based on the main research question, namely, whether a business ethics model should be developed to assist in creating an ethical organisation. Motivation of the study: The motivation for this study is based on the question of whether there is a dedicated drive within the motor industry to establish an ethical organisation and, if such is the case, what benefits would accrue to the organisations in ECMIC. Research design, approach and method: An empirical study was conducted within ECMIC to test the proposed ethics intervention model. A questionnaire, as the main measuring instrument, was developed and 150 questionnaires were distributed. Statistical hypothesis testing was used, with a significance level set at 5%. The aim of the hypothesis testing was to test whether the percentage responses in certain categories were significantly higher than a pre-determined test-value. Main findings: The research results substantiate the fact that the majority of the surveyed organisations do not implement specific ethics interventions. Nevertheless, the majority of respondents acknowledge the importance of ethical behaviour in the organisation, especially with regard to their financial positions. Practical/managerial implications: From this study it became clear that the implementation of a code of ethics would create a platform for ethical behaviour in organisations. It is also concluded from this study that all organisations must strive towards creating an ethical organisation which would have long-term rewards for the organisation, especially from a financial perspective. Contribution/value-add: This study highlights the fact that although ethics and ethical behaviour in organisations are emphasised and receive wide-spread media coverage, not enough action is linked to this task at hand. The results of this research clearly indicate where the shortcomings are, in the process of establishing ethical organisations and who should be seen as the custodians of such activities.

Confidence in accounting is conditional to justifying the legitimacy of the accountancy profession. To reinforce this confidence, IFAC issued a framework whose applicability is proposed to be verified through three criteria: a cost benefit analysis, adherence to democratic principles and processes, as well as the respect of cultural and ethical diversity. Hereby we analyzed the comments issued and found out that the complexity of the public interest notion makes it difficult to define, given its international reach. However, such a framework constitutes a step further to reinforcing the public's confidence. We conducted a complex analysis and pointed out the relevant aspects regarding the axiom of public interest, arguing that the commitment to society is the highest responsibility of the profession. As a conclusion, since accountants have a responsibility to protect the public interest while striving to progress with the interests of the profession, a concession between the two is indispensable. Background: Today''s healthcare system requires that nurses have strong medical–technical competences and the ability to focus on the ethical dimension of care. For nurses, coping with the ethical dimension of care in practise is very difficult. Often nurses cannot act according to their own personal values and norms. This generates internal moral distress, which has a negative impact on both nurses and patients. Objectives: The objective of this review is a thorough analysis of the literature about nurses’ ethical practise particularly with regard to their processes of ethical reasoning and decision making and implementation of those decisions in practise. Design: We conducted an extensive search of the electronic databases Medline, Embase, Cinahl, and PsycInfo for papers published between January 1988 and September 2008. A broad range of search keywords was used. The 39 selected articles had a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method design. Findings: Despite the conceptual difficulties that the literature on the ethical practise of nurses suffers, in this review we understand nurses’ ethical practise a complex process of reasoning, decision making, and implementation of the decision in practise. The process of decision making is more than a pure cognitive process; it is influenced by personal and contextual factors. The difficulties nurses encounter in their ethical conduct are linked to their difficult work environment. As a result, nurses often capitulate to the decisions made by others, which results in a conformist way of acting and less individually adapted care. Conclusions: This review provides us with a more nuanced understanding of the way nurses reason and act in ethically difficult situations than emerged previously. If we want to support nurses in their ethical care and if we want to help them to change their conformist practises, more research is needed. Especially needed are in-depth qualitative studies that explore the experiences of nurses. Such studies could help us better understand not only how nurses reason and behave in practise but also the relationship between these two processes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (SA 2000) describes sexual harassment as unwelcome behaviour relating to sex, gender or sexual orientation, or which is related to a person's membership or perceived membership of a specific group, for example women or homosexual persons. Sexual harassment can be divided into 5 categories including gender harassment, seductive behaviour, sexual bribery, sexual coercion and sexual assault, which includes rape (Lewis & Hastings 1994:22). Sexual harassment in these categories can take on one or more of the following forms: verbal, non-verbal, physical, hostile environment, quid-pro-quo or secondary harassment (Van Meelis 1999:74; Oosthuizen & De Wet 2005:74, Neff 2001:1, OCR 2001:1). An empirical study was done among 2414 learners from 10 secondary schools in the Potchefstroom area (which includes Potchefstroom, Ikageng, Lesedi and Promosa). A structured questionnaire was used to gain information on the forms and frequency of sexual harassment that learners are subjected to in their schools. From the study it seems that sexual harassment in some schools may possibly be described as hostile environment harassment. Frequencies for educator-to-learner harassment are rather low, suggesting that educator-to-learner harassment is not a particularly big problem in these schools. When results are, however, compared to results from another part of the questionnaire which tested peer sexual harassment among learners (De Wet 2007:23-31), it seems that the harassment of learners by both educators and learners shows a similar pattern pertaining to the forms and categories of harassment. Harassment in the schools take place mostly as less serious forms of verbal and physical harassment, and fall mainly in the categories of gender harassment (which relates to the sex or gender of the victim and often indicates sexism) and seductive behaviour (involving unwanted, inappropriate and offensive physical or verbal sexual advances). The major problem, however, seems to be gender harassment and sexism, which is revealed by the high accountings of vulgar and repulsive comments and jokes made towards victims. To enable schools to prevent sexual harassment it is suggested that schools foster an organisation culture which is conducive to respect for human rights. The constitutional values or dignity, equality and respect should be emphasised. Schools should draw up a sexual harassment policy which defines sexual harassment and its different forms and categories, describes the complaints procedures and steps that will follow a complaint, indicates a sexual harassment contact person and also amplifies the constitutional values of dignity, equality and respect (DOE 2002:150-151). Sexual harassment by educators and even voluntary sexual involvement with a learner should be viewed in a serious light. The nature of the relationship between the learner and the educator, who stands in loco parentis towards the learners, renders any form of sexual involvement inappropriate (AAUW 1993:15; Houston 2001:1). Even if a learner would enter into such a relationship voluntarily, he or she may still feel shy and used (McGrath 2000a:2). The authority that the educator holds over the learner further creates the arena for abuse of power and the learner may feel that there is too much at risk and will not voice his or her discomfort with a situation (Neff 2001:2). This may further lead the educator to think that the learner is doing everything out of free will and totally voluntarily, while in fact the learner is too afraid to speak out or refuse the educator's advances (McGrath 2000a:3).… [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WOS: 000418898300003 The purpose of this study is to identify nursing educators' responsivity to the ethical principles in nursing education and the unethical instructor behaviours they have experienced or witnessed. This study, which is descriptive in nature, was conducted with 134 volunteer nursing educators who work in nursing schools providing education at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Turkey. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analysed using SPSS 15.0 package programming. Results were obtained using numbers, percentages, descriptive statistics, Chi-square test for the variables identified in census, dependent and independent t-test, and variance analysis for the measured variables. It was found that although the instructors participating in the study took ethical principles into consideration while doing their duty, they reported to have witnessed or experienced unethical instructor behaviours. Besides, the proportion of unethical behaviours that were witnessed by the participants was always higher than the ones that were experienced. This paper explores the creation of a global protocol on ethics in public relations. It begins by looking into the global ethical debate. It examines existing codes of ethics of a selection of public relations institutes and associations around the world, provides comparative analysis of these codes and discusses the pros and cons of their enforcement. It suggests that the immediate way forward in a highly litigious world is to provide some values-based guidance to member associations together with access to an evolving database of case studies illustrating ethical problems. In the medium term more effective sanctions may be possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research is currently being undertaken to compare attitudes and behaviour towards ethics in information technology between students at an Australian and a South African university. This work provides a background to ethics from the literature from which a behavioural model for micro- level ethical standards is proposed. Using a theoretical underpinning of Fishbein & Azjen's Theory of Reasoned Action, a survey document has been developed to identify and compare what constructs most affect an individual's intention to behave in situations requiring ethical considerations. The purpose of this study was to empirically investigate the role of pluralistic ignorance in perceptions of unethical behavior. Buckley, Harvey, and Beu (2000) suggested that pluralistic ignorance plays a role such that individuals mistakenly believe that others are more unethical than they actually are. In two studies, we confirmed that pluralistic ignorance influences perceptions of ethics in a manner consistent with what Buckley et al. suggested. The implications of pluralistic ignorance in perceptions of ethics are discussed with suggestions for how pluralistic ignorance might be reduced and how research in this area nay be extended. Ensuring that a tourist leave the destination with a positive image in her/his mind and as satisfied is an important factor for achieving competitive advantage. Tourists' satisfaction with the destination depends on many factors. One of these factors is the services of the tourist guides accompanying the tourists during their visit to the destination. Tourist guides are the people who accompany tourists during the tour, promote the destination, provide information about the destination, and act as mediators and directors between tourists and destinations during the tour. The quality of the performance of tourist guides during the tour affects tourists' development of positive or negative image perception of the destination. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of the performance of tourist guides on destination image and the moderating role of ethical behaviors in this relationship. With this end in view, a theoretical model has been created and research hypotheses have been developed. The questionnaire form, which was developed as a result of a comprehensive literature review, was applied to 438 domestic and foreign tourists visiting Nevsehir province. In this research, statistical analysis methods such as frequency distribution analysis for the assessment of the tourists' socio-demographic characteristics and scale items, explanatory factor analysis for grouping the items of the scale, confirmatory factor analysis for determining the validity of the scales, and structural equation modeling for determining the moderation effect were used. In the results of the study, it was concluded that the `knowledge` and `skill` dimensions that constitute the performance of the tourist guides had a significant effect on both the `cognitive image` and the `affective image` of the destination. At the same time, it was concluded that the `honesty` and `reliability` dimensions of the ethical behavior of the tourist guides had a moderating role in this relationship, while the dimensions of `professional responsibility` and `fairness` did not have a moderating role. Finally, based on the findings, some suggestions have been made to the tourist guides and the educational institutions that train the tourist guides. 172

Introduction and Purpose: Emergency services are units where patients in need of palliative care frequently get medical help and sometimes spend too much time due to system-related problems. Under these circumstances, emergency service employees establish an intense communication with palliative care patients and patient relatives. In order to provide patients effective care, the personnel providing emergency medicine service need to have sufficient knowledge and equipment in procuring palliative and end-of-life care in the emergency service. With this study, it is aimed to examine the knowledge levels of emergency service employees concerning palliative care, as well as their educational background and approach to end-of-life care and to investigate whether that has a correlation with ethical sensitivity or not. Thus, awareness of emergency service employees about palliative care will be created.Material and Method: The sample of the cross-sectional and descriptive study consisted of 100 emergency service employees working in the city centers of Tokat and Kayseri. The data were collected using a questionnaire form containing sociodemographic characteristics of the emergency service employees and their thoughts about palliative care and also the Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire. The data were evaluated using mean±standard deviation, percentage distributions, t-test and Anova test and the significance was accepted to be p0,05). As a result of comparing the palliative care questionnaire with Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire; no significant difference could be determined in the statements outside, `I try not to think about the matter of death` (p=0,003) (F=6,168) (p>0,05).Conclusion: In order to raise awareness of the issues of palliative care and ethical sensitivity, there is a need for palliative care trainings before graduation and in-service trainings after graduation. The trainings should be repeated at certain intervals to keep the knowledge up-to-date.Keywords: Emergency Service, Ethical Sensitivity, End-of-Life Care, Palliative Care, Knowledge Level 144

Textile and clothing sector is an industry branch which plays an important role in the economic development of the countries, and it is one of the first sectors of the industrialization process. However, in recent years with the advance in technology the developments textile sector play an important role in the increase of environmental problems, just like in many other sectors. The data shows, the production, and consumption of clothing and textiles on the global level have increased every year in parallel with the increase in population. In addition to the social problems such as low wages in the production and consumption process, working condition of the workers and child labor etc., the excessive use of resources and wastes, the harmful effects of the toxic chemicals on human health and the environment necessitate sustainability in all production and consumption processes of the industry. The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes and buying intentions of individuals towards sustainable clothing within the framework of ethic traits. In addition, whether social networking is a potential field that can positively influence buying intentions and attitudes of the consumers toward sustainable clothing, the regulatory effect of materialism, clothing involvement and guilt feelings have been tried to be investigated. In this respect, a survey was carried out on people living in Istanbul who also use social networks. According to the research results, altruism, ethics obligation, and influence of social networks on purchasing behavior and normative beliefs are effective on the attitudes toward sustainable clothing. The environmental knowledge of individuals, effects of social networks on purchasing behavior, and the attitude towards sustainable clothing are all effective on the intention of purchasing sustainable clothing. In addition, the higher the tendency towards materialism and clothing involvement, the more unfavorable the intention of individuals to buy sustainable clothing; it has been found that the intensity of the feeling of guilt positively affects the individual's intention to buy sustainable clothing. 233

The global situation is currently in permanent change. Globalisation, as a cultural, economic, political and social process, is present all over the world. However, it has repercussions in practically all these aspects which are frequently unforeseeable and uncontrollable. Thus, the globalising rising force has caused strong changes in the organizations, countries and people’s behaviour, which may have global consequences. The national organization VL Moldes, located in Marinha Grande, is specialised in mould production and engineering for plastic injection, whose activity strongly resides in the international market. The main purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the way globalisation influences VL Moldes ethical behaviour (universalist or utilitarian ethics): does this organisation follow the ethical “guidelines” of its country? Or does it adapt to the “guidelines” of its clients’ countries?

The present paper brings to the fore issues relating to the meaning and construction of ethics in online team communication by exploring the discursive strategies that contribute to the construction of a team's sense of duty and individual virtuousness. The study relies on a complex toolkit which includes ethnolinguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse and conversation analysis. Data consist of a one-day interaction unit as part of a larger set of real communication exchanges (ca. 34,000) over a time period of six months, observation notes, as well as unstructured interviews. Our empirical analysis has revealed that individual virtuousness and sense of duty are actually interrelated. A virtuous team climate leads team members to share positive perceptions about the team, which in turn increases team commitment. Furthermore, we argue that the blurring of private and professional life not only allows for the enactment of ethic-driven discourse strategies that result in enhanced cooperation and improved team performance, but also for high levels of interconnectivity and improved social interaction. The results of the analysis supplement organisational literature based on ethics-centred observations on the effectiveness of virtual work, and show how a discourse-driven approach can provide tools for further theorisations about the practices and the ecology of digital communication. Daha detaylı teorik ve pratik çıkarımlar tezde tartışılmaktadır.--------------------Unethical behaviors in the workplace, which have been defined as conductscontrary to the accepted morals of the society have received a lot of attention fromscholars recently. Scholars are especially interested in the question of what leads to suchbehavior. Some research studies have been conducted to address this issue and thesestudies have determined individual, interpersonal, and organization level factors that helpunderstand why employees perform unethically. However, the majority of these researchstudies have concentrated on behaviors and actions that are performed to benefit the self. This way of thinking and this line of research imply that unethical conducts arefundamentally driven by self-interest. At the same time, this line of research generallyassumes that pro-social behaviors are ethical and are driven by altruistic reasons to helpother people. However, some studies have already begun to question this idea by reportingmany cases in which employees commonly engage in unethical behaviors not to serve theself but to benefit their organization. Behaviors such as destroying denouncinginformation to save one’s organization’s standing, giving wrong information to people,or engendering morally hazardous situations for both the employers and for society as awhole are among these cases. This kind of behavior has been called unethical proorganizationalbehavior (UPB) and a growing number of researchers have begun toexplore and theorize about this phenomenon. Currently, there is a rising field of businessethics research that mainly deals with the moral challenges of values, beliefs andbehaviors that were traditionally regarded as benevolent and pro-social. This emergentfield of inquiry broadens the extant research on business ethics by both detecting factorsleading to unethical behavior and expanding our theoretical perspectives forunderstanding such behavior. As one of the few studies on UPB, this study hypothesizesthat affective commitment predicts UPB through the mediation of moral disengagement. It was also proposed that ethical leadership affects the hypothesized relationship. 416employees (184 males and 232 females) from different companies located in Istanbul,Turkey formed the sample of this study. A multidimensional questionnaire with sevenpointinterval scale was applied to measure all substantive variables used in this study. The results of mediation analysis revealed that people with higher affective commitmentengaged in more UPB, and that this effect was mediated by moral disengagement. Inivaddition, the results of moderated mediation analysis showed that the mediationrelationship was stronger when employees perceived a lower level of ethical leadershipin the organization. We found that affective commitment encourages UPB through themechanism of moral disengagement. Besides, this effect is stronger when the ethicalleadership is perceived to be low as opposed to being high. Our results extend knowledgeof UPB by highlighting the importance of ethical leadership, and open up new avenuesof research on the ethical challenges of pro-social motives, attitudes, and behaviors. Inaddition to its contribution to the extant research on UPB and moral disinterment, thisstudy is also unique in its data analysis approaches. Through the use of StructuralEquation Modeling and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, this study tries to present a betterpicture of the involving factors and constructs and sheds light on the merits these methodscan bring about compared to traditional approaches. Further theoretical and practicalimplications are discussed.

This study has been conducted to determine the effect of nurses' ethical sensitivities on professional behavior as descriptive. The study's universe constitutes a total of 933 nurses working in the Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Practice and Research Center, Samsun Gazi State Hospital and Private Samsun Medicana Hospital located within the provincial borders of Samsun and the samples of 439 nurses. A written permission has been obtained from the nurses and the institutions in which the study has been conducted and it has been approved by Ethics Committee. The data were collected via; the Nurse Introductory Information Form, the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire and the Behavioral Inventory for Nursing Profession between January 2017 and June 2017. For categorical variables in the evaluation of the data, the number has been used as percentage; the mean and standard deviation descriptive statistics have been used for the numerical variables; the Anova has been used on the condition that it has provided assumption of normality or the Kruskall-Wallis H test has been used on the condition that it has failed for the comparisons between groups. It was determined in the study that 95,0 % of the nurses in the study were women, 68,4% of them were married, 73,1% of them had children, 44,9% of them finished university via distance education, 29,4 % of them finished formal education, 48,5% of them have been working for 16 years or more than 16 years, 41,2% of them are clinical nurses, 66,1% of them preferred nursing profession as their own preference, 52,85% of them reached occupational satisfaction and 64,01% of them were satisfied with their profession. The average of total the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire scores of the nurses is 87,84±21,73 and the average of total the Behavioral Inventory for Nursing Profession scores is 4,66±3,35. It has been determined that the nurses who have children, attain occupational satisfaction, and make and issue vocational researches have more ethical sensitivity. It has been determined that aging, being a woman, making and issuing vocational researches increase the level of professionalism in nurses. It has been determined that there has been a positive relation between the ethical sensitivity and the level of professionalism of nurses. In line with these results; it is thought that organizing activities which enhance nurses' moral sensitivity will promote their professionalism and that it will contribute to the development of moral sensitivity in support of their participation in activities that will enable them to develop in the direction of professionalism. 105

Organisations are marked by the complexity of interdependences and non-linear feed-back whose synergetic character has a strong impact on the dynamics, de-structuring and restructuring of the socio-economic systems that these are included in, in a continuous process characterised mainly by instability and rapid changes. In this context, the necessity to focus on ethics as a prerequisite in regular decision-making at the level of these organisations represents a major challenge for higher education, in particular for the business administration field, which has to ensure the comprehensibility of these phenomena. The research is divided into three main sections that focus on the ethical dimension of human activities in the economy, starting from the need to integrate ethics into business education: problems and objectives of the curriculum regarding ethics, requirements for elaborating the curriculum, as well as students’ perception of the introduction of “Business Ethics” in the curriculum. Based on the specialised literature review, the observations at the level of organisations, the analysis and structuring of structural-phenomenological information, we disseminated the objectives and requirements of a curriculum focused on business ethics. The quantitative analysis of students` perception of the discussed issue was made by means of a survey carried out among students enrolled in Master`s programmes, based on a questionnaire. The relevant elements were identified to validate the research hypotheses: relevant business factors (profit, risk, financial viability, the need for ethics and the involvement in community problems), the explanatory variables of ethical behaviour (the education, the mission and the value system, the existence of a code of ethics and of a person responsible for ethics-related issues), the requirements of the business environment in education (focus on practical aspects of Business Ethics courses, combining theoretical sessions with practical ones, cooperation with the business environment, the use of case studies as a didactic tool and updating the content of Business Ethics courses), as well as the competitive advantages gained by introducing “Business Ethics” in the curriculum (high degree of comprehension, more opportunities, competitiveness, efficiency in fulfilling responsibilities). The use of statistical instruments made it possible to reach conclusions regarding the necessity to include ethics in business education and its formative impact, as well as regarding the existing correlations between ethical behaviour and education

This study addresses a gap in the literature by exploring the individual and contextual antecedents of mindfulness and its relation with ethical behaviour. Mindfulness is a concept based on Buddhist philosophy and basically means being here and now. Data were gathered from 302 white collar employees working in İstanbul. This research has three main findings. First, caring climate predicts employee's mindfulness which means organizations which embrace benevolence in individual, local and organizational levels contributes positively to mindfulness. Second, goal orientation is found associated with mindfulness such that mastery and performance approach orientation contributes positively to mindfulness but the relation is stronger for the former and performance avoidance contributes negatively. Lastly, it was found that mindfulness has significant relationship with ethical behaviour and it has a predictive power for postconventional moral stage. This study provides a unique theoretical contribution by examining the antecedents and consequences of mindfulness in an ethical framework. Based on the fact that caring climate's contribution on mindfulness, organizations are suggested to develop a workplace where employees feel them as a member of the family. Also organizations may benefit from creating an environment which emphasizes teamwork, participation and intrinsic motivation. With respect to the link between ethical behaviour and mindfulness, especially for work contexts where sensitive treatment and prosocial behaviour become a need, HR staff may benefit from combining mindfulness tests with their personnel selection tools. 140

Education, settling ethical behaviours in the national and international level, bears the burden of bringing in insight, allowance and friendship. In Turkey, arrangements in legislation of public officers determine the content of ethical behaviours. In the case of arrangements in education organizations, public officers have made up their own ethical behaviour rules in parallel with their ethical behaviours content. Teacher ethical behaviours, by reason of equipping the new generation to social life, necessitate to be emphasized with a more and more importance. The responsibility of edification that teacher must have expands the scope of the teacher's “education bank”. This study aims to discuss the importance of teacher ethical behaviour as being a public officer with in the framework of “ethics” as being a social behaviour.

MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2017 Ethical behaviour is a significant topic of interest in the literature of business ethics and law. Many hypothetical models have been proposed in an attempt to clarify the process by which ethical decisions are made. Attorneys, who are responsible for the defence and implementation of the rights of the public, are often accused of unethical behaviour. Decision-making based on an ethical point of view is very important in the field of law but, the emotional intelligence of attorneys might be more important. Minimum research has been done to substantiate the statement that emotional intelligence plays a pivotal role in the ethical behaviour of attorneys. This study examines the relationship between emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour of attorneys. The results should assist managers to determine the importance of emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour as a competitive advantage. The results should further assist managers to determine the need for further academic research on different factors that might have an influence on ethical behaviour. The study population consisted mainly of white (65,90%), females (51,20%), working as associate attorneys (36,60%), between the ages of 21 and 30 (53,7%). Most the participants had less than 10 years’ work experience and 53,70% had at least a degree. Three questionnaires were administered, namely the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Short Form (TEIQue-SF) (Petrides, 2009), Virtue-Ethics Importance Scale (VAIS) (Swaim, 2004) and Consequential Scale (Tanner, et al., 2007). Ethical dilemmas were also included in the survey to which participants had to indicate their acceptance or rejection of the noted dilemma. Principal component factor analysis was performed on the three measurements. Acceptable KMO correlation matrix was found for the TEIQue-SF and the Consequential scale, however the KMO correlation matrix of the VAIS was found to be undesirable. The VEIS was therefore excluded in further statistical analysis. One factor was extracted from the TEIQue-SF, accounting 31,75% of the total variance. This factor was labelled Trait EI and had an acceptable Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0,79. Two factors were extracted from the Consequential Scale, explaining 51,85% of the total variance. These factors were labelled Deontological Beliefs and Utilitarian Beliefs and displayed Cronbach alpha coefficients ranging from 0,81 to 0,82. No correlation was found between Trait EI, Deontological Beliefs and Utilitarian Beliefs in the sample of attorneys. This finding was in line with the findings by Pathak and colleagues (2013:113). Statistical and practical significant correlations were however, found between utilitarian beliefs and some of the ethical dilemmas. This is indicative that the higher an attorney’s Utilitarian beliefs, i.e. believing that the end justifies the means, the more likely he or she may be to engage in behaviours that may not be perceived as ethical. From the results, it can be concluded, that although the relation between emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour could not be confirm in the current study, that attorneys, in their profession, are expected to act in an ethical/unethical way despite of their level of emotional intelligence. Further research is therefore needed to clearly indicate to the legal profession how being emotional intelligent as well as acting ethical, can create a competitive edge and improve the perception of the profession Masters

This paper describes an empirical research carried out in Colombia, Spain and Britain since 1997. Its purpose is to answer to the questions: What does it mean to be an ethical manager? And which behaviours define an ethical manager? Findings show that an ethical manager acts in three levels, each one containing one category: individual level-values; organisational level-managerial performance; social levelexternal relations. Among categories, the two dimensions that obtained the biggest importance in the three countries were honesty and use of power. We propose the design of strategies oriented to managerial development in these two dimensions, especially from the human resource management department.

The human factor is quite important in the accommodation businesses falling into the scope of service sector due to the employees' relations among themselves and with their clients. In parallel with this, organizational citizenship behaviour is crucial for the formation of ethical attitudes and behaviours on the employees working in service sector, a rapid growing sector in recent years. The aim of this study is to measure the ethical attitudes and behaviours regarding the employees who are employed in three, four and five-star accommodation businesses in the province of Nevşehir and to determine the extent of the effective role of the organizational citizenship in the formation of these ethical attitudes and behaviours. To this end, the date has been collected through the survey technique in the three, four and five-star accommodation businesses located in central districts of Nevşehir province. There are questions in the survey about the participants' demographic characteristics, their working periods in tourism sector and their work satisfaction. The frequency, arithmetic average and the percentage distributions of the date collected from the survey results has been calculated in SPSS 20.0 programme and the correlation and regression analysis is employed to observe the relationship between variables. According to these analyses, a positive and meaningful relationship is found out between the ethical attitudes and behaviours of the employees from accommodation businesses and organizational citizenship behaviour, which is constituing the research sample of this study.
