In this research based on the studies of the Discourse Analysis, we propose to analyze how students from a Language and Literature Course of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG) move their discourses over the Portuguese language. The corpus has been collected for nine years, always on the first day of class, when they were invited to write about why they chose to study Language and Literature in the University. Through this theme, the ideological issue, the power relations, and the senses effect present therein are observed by triggering three key concepts studied by Ernst (2011): the lack, the excess and the strangeness. Therefore, from the marks left in the discourses of those university students as well as from their identifications with certain discourse formations, gestures of interpretation are mobilized. Such will allow us to analyze the ways of saying and notsaying about/in the language and, ultimately, how the sense effects in those specific discourses are produced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In March 2016, the former president Lula was conducted through a coercive way by the Federal Police in order to depose about his involvement in suspect activities related to Operation Lava Jato. The shooting or any other register of this coercive conduction have been forbidden, thus the national media became to work in the verge of this "denied image". In this paper, we investigate the process of meaning production about this "absent image" through other images and materialities that circulate in the media discourse game regarding the destabilization/ stabilization of evidences about the March fourth current events. Therefore, the concept of lack, excess and strangeness, established by Ernst, were fundamental. Considering the notions of "lack", "excess" and "strangeness", from the perspective of materialist discourse analysis, I sustain that those three elements are constitutive of the construction process of a methodological framework that considers the prosodic materiality of the voice to be significant. I present the construction of a discursive object of research in which I intend to analyse the discourse of the Minister-Rapporteur during the trial of the "Mensalão" by the Brazilian Supreme Court. I also show how, from the first file reading and listening gestures, I end up with the "reported speech" as the regularity of that discourse, marked by the presence of another in the linguistic linearity. In conclusion, I discuss three concerns during the construction of the framework: the transcript of the speech of the Minister audios; the status given to the "reported speech" in the research; and the balance between horizontal exhaustiveness and vertical exhaustiveness. The article discusses the issue of lack, excess and strangeness, with the discursive materiality of the legal discourse of the defense in a jury trial. The theoretical model that underlies this discussion is the French Discourse Analysis. In the chosen legal discourse there was a very articulate argument in an attempt to make the discourse transparent and objective. We also noticed two things that stand in the argument: the imaginary formations that try to predict who the caller is and the forgetfulness number one and number two, which provide the illusion that the subject articulates its creative and unique way of speech, and the great goal of the discursive subject of defense is to destroy the arguments of his opponent. From these findings we started our analysis, and Ernst's theoretical contribution, which presents possible paths for the discourse analyst, was essential considering the choice of the corpus.
