Abstract

Research has been conducted on the 4-substituted dihydropyridones or 2-pyridones. The preparation of these compounds carried out via nucleophilic addition of alpha-(methylsulfanyl)ester enolates to N-alkyl-2-fluoropyridinium salts and via acid hydrolysis or oxidation with concomitant hydrolysis of dihydropyridine adducts is described.

Research has been conducted on beta-trifluoromethyl alpha,beta-unsaturated esters. The authors describe the preparation of these compounds via the reactions of fluorine-containing ketones with diazo compounds using metalloporphyrin-catalyzed olefination in the presence of triphenylphosphine.

Research has been conducted on alcohols and aldehydes.
