Essential oils of aerial parts (leaves+stems, and flowers) of Anacyclus clavatus, extracted by hydro-distillation were analyzed for qualitative and quantitative differences between chemical compositions. A total of 98 and 106 volatile compounds were identified in the leaves+stems and flower extracts, respectively. Germacrene D (16.84%) was the major component in the essential oil from leaves+stems while β-thujone (11.16%) was the main constituent in the flower extract. Antioxidant activity of crude extracts in methanol, ethanol, and acetone was evaluated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical method. Methanolic extract of leaves+stems and acetone extracts of flowers showed the highest percentage inhibition of DPPH radical. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
