Abstract

In this paper, we describe the influence of ultra-sound exposure time and tribological properties regarding formation of composites with two different salts doped epoxy resin. Potassium dichromate and Sodium dichromate were choosen due to their flexible way of use and the novelty of their usage to form epoxy composites. The time of ultra-sound exposure was, each time, of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 minutes. The doping method had been developed as part as research activity under the Project POSCCE 12P01.024/CD111. Abstract

While the design problem seems to be essential in order to form a high performance composite one may ask more: is it possible to form a material able to give information about its state? Is it possible to control the properties of a composite through alternation of its various layers? Is it possible, finally, to obtain a multifunctional material based on a right design, on a cheap forming technique, on accessible components? This study is about partially answering the above questions. Two types of fiber fabric were used to form composites with filled epoxy matrix and materials bending and thermo-mechanical properties were evaluated using appropriate recommended methods. Abstract

The combination of a filler with a polymer results in a new material with changed properties. Some of these changes are advantageous while others are less favorable. Polymeric dispersions of nanometer-sized metal particles offer the possibility of functionalizing the polymer by properties coming from the large number of surface atoms and the quantum-size effects. Nanosized metals show properties that differ significantly from that of bulk metals, which makes these nano-composite systems intriguing for scientific study and potentially useful for a number of technological applications. Abstract

Despite their mechanical properties, lower than the fibers ones, the fabrics are more and more used as reinforcements in composites applications due their capacity to allow draping in order to form materials and/or structures with sinuous surfaces. The present study is connected to the idea of forming multi-plies composites with the same matrix but with different types of fabrics as reinforcement in order to maximize more than one mechanical property by design means. Fabric reinforced laminae are tested in order to identify the optimal orientation of each type of fabric inside the material. Three types of fabric are used to form epoxy matrix laminae which are tensile tested. All the fabrics were specially prepared to ensure a better adhesion of epoxy resin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

It is well known that the quality of a composite depends not only in its components quality but also in forming technology. Regarding particulate polymer composites the mentioned dependence is stronger. This study is about how the filler's dispersion into the matrix is influencing the basic properties of filled composites. In the case of moulded thermosetting based composites three ways to disperse the powders into the matrix are available leading, probably, to different final properties. Abstract

The actual trend in composites industry is to use modified polymers as matrix to form materials and structures with better properties. In this regard this study is oriented toward finding ways to improve polymer properties based on natural tendency of starch to create its own structure when is dispersed into a liquid phase. A bi-component epoxy system was used to form particulate composites with various starch concentrations. Physical and mechanical properties of formed materials were investigated using appropriate methods to identify the maximum amount of starch to be added without changing the basic properties of epoxy matrix. The results are encouraging further studies regarding the possibility to use starch as primary dispersion in pre-polymer mixture in order to ensure better dispersions for powders which generally tend to aggregate. Abstract

One of the most important objectives of scientific research in actual world is to obtain multifunctional materials. It is our concern that using various filler on various polymer layers of a polymer composite is possible to obtain controlled properties of formed materials. Generally when large amounts of powders are used to fill epoxy resin their particles are aggregating leading to clusters which change the mechanical properties. The question is how to obtain uniform dispersions of active filler's particles (such as CNT or Ferrite).
