Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) are a major worldwide public health problem. The aim of this study was to use the growth mixture model for clustering countries on the basis of the mortality rate patterns of RTAs from 2007 to 2013. We obtained the data on RTA death rates from World Health Organization reports and Human Development Index (HDI) of United Nations Development Programme reports for the years 2007, 2010 and 2013. Simple Latent Growth Models (LGM) in 181 countries were applied to estimate overall RTA mortality rate growth trajectories and the latent growth mixture modeling utilized to cluster them. According to non-linear LGM, the overall mortality rate of RTAs showed a decrease from 2007 to 2010 followed by an increase from 2010 to 2013. The HDI covariate had a significant negative and positive effect on intercept and slope of the LGM, respectively. The extracted mixture model appeared to have seven classes with different trends in RTA mortality rates. The worldwide countries were clustered into seven classes. Further studies on each of the seven classes are suggested to provide recommendations for reducing the mortality rate of the RTAs. Background We aimed to establish the prevalence of parental consanguinity among patients with primary immunodeficiency diseases ( PID) and compare the prevalence with the general population. Method We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus for studies mentioning parental consanguinity prevalence in patients with PID and calculated the prevalence odds ratio ( POR) of parental consanguinity in each study, compared to a matched healthy population. Results We identified 21 eligible studies with a total population of 18091 accounting for sample overlap. The POR among studies on a sample of mixed patients with PID ranged from 0.6 to 21.9 with the pooled POR of 3.0 (p < 0.001; I2 = 89%, 95% CI: 2.5-3.7). Conclusion PIDs with an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance had significant odds of parental consanguinity compared to the healthy population, a phenomenon not observed in other inheritance patterns. Determining the extent of the impact that consanguinity imposes upon the progeny paves the way for convincing healthcare policymakers in highly consanguineous communities to act more diligently in informing the masses about the consequences of practicing inbreeding. Road traffic injuries (RTIs) leading to death need the most essential concern for low, middle and high income societies. Mortality rate due to traffic injuries is considerable in Iran particularly during the last decade along with the industrialization process. The present study considered the trend of traffic injuries leading to death in Iran for a period of seven-years which started from March 2004 to March 2011. The formal merged Iranian database provided by the Ministry of Roads, the Legal Medicine Organization, the Traffic Police (NAJA), and the Ministry of Health covering 146, 269 deaths due to traffic injuries between 2004 and 2011 was analyzed. The time series method was carried out to determine the death trends of RTIs in the whole country. The Poisson regression model was used to estimate the changes in the frequency of events over time adjusting for associated known risk factors. The SARIMA (0, 1, 1)×(0, 1, 1)12 model was used for fitting to the time series of death rate. The death rate due to RTIs in Iran has statistically declined from 38 in 2004 to 31 per 100,000 populations in 2011. Based on the number of vehicles, the mortality rate has also declined from 38 to 12 cases per 10,000 vehicles from 2004 to 2011 respectively. However, the mortality rate was increased from 51 to 65 cases per 1000 accidents from 2004 to March 2011 respectively. Despite minor variations in mortality trends of RTIs in Iran according to different criteria, an annual average of 21,000 deaths is considerable and needs serious attentions. Modification of traffic laws, enhancement of police controls, improving transport infrastructure, holding education courses for drivers and providing optimal healthcare services are recommended. Background: Sistan and Balouchestan province is one of areas in Iran that have the highest malaria incidence. We have tried to investigate the epidemiology of malaria in this province. Materials and Methods: In this study, we evaluated epidemiological data of all malaria cases from April 2008 to March 2011 in this province. Results: In our study Plasmodium vivax was the most type of malaria. Malaria incidence was more in men and rural than female and urban. 22.7% of all cases were foreigners. Malaria incidence has had two picks. Conclusion: Malaria control interventions should be focused on high risk group and based on incidence peak. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Work-related accidents are considered as a major health problem worldwide. The aim of present study was to determine the epidemiological pattern of occupational accidents among workers insured by the Iranian Social Security Organization (ISSO) between 2001 and 2005. Subjects consisted of all workers and drivers who had a work-related accident during 2001–2005 and were registered in the Iranian Social Security Organization (ISSO) database according to the inspection reports. An ordinal logistic regression model (proportional odds regression model) was used to assess the concurrent effects of independent variables on accident outcomes. Overall, 86,437 work-related accidents were investigated. The accidents were more frequent in metal workplaces and electrical industries, respectively. More than half of the accidents were due to incautious activities. Workers’ age (age at the time of accident) (OR=0.99, CI: 0.989–0.994), gender (OR=1.3, CI: 1.191–1.683), marital status (OR=1.25, CI: 1.143–1.675) as well as accident setting (OR=1.88, CI: 1.728–1.975) had significant effect on accident outcomes. Pattern of occupational injuries in Iran was consistent with the global pattern for accident outcomes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
