Conventional fuels commonly used in cars with combustion engines and the effects of their combustion have a very negative impact on the state of the environment. The combustion of liquid fuels causes the introduction of many thousands of tons of CO2 and other harmful substances into the atmosphere every year. That is why the authorities of many countries are introducing more and more stringent emission standards for cars with internal combustion engines, and car manufacturers are trying to meet these standards. Therefore, the aim of the undertaken research was to compile and analyze the power of spark engines in individual capacity ranges, compression ratios, efficiency, CO2 emissions, dependence of combustion on engine capacity, dependence of CO2 emissions on engine capacity, and dependence of combustion on engine power. The conducted research also compared the level of average selected variables related to CO2 emission in terms of engine displacement by country of production using statistical analysis. The article offers an analysis of the development of the tractor and combine harvester fleet in 2001 - 2016. There are stated tractors and combines of the most common brands registered in the country. A methodology has been developed for the estimation of an adequate quantity of tractors and combines for timely cultivation of the sowing areas under agricultural crops. The methodology is based on the calculation of the annual increase in the summary engine capacity of the entire fleet of tractors and combine harvesters, and its comparison with the annual increase in the sowing areas. It is assumed that 10% of the sowing areas are cultivated by worn-out tractors, and 7.5% of the new tractor and combine capacity is required for the replacement (amortisation) of the worn-out tractors. We consider that the increase in the summary capacity should compensate for the increase in the sowing areas, taking into account also the impact of the total yield upon the productivity of the machinery. It has been found out that during the period the summary engine capacity of the tractors has grown 1.52 times, the summary engine capacity of the combine harvesters - 2.8 times; in the same period the area under agricultural crops has increased approximately 1.38 times but the area under cereals and canola - approximately 1.8 times. Several authors consider specific capacity kWh-1 as a criterion for the estimation of an adequate quantity of the machinery; therefore there are calculated also its changes in a 16-year period, with the specific capacity of both the tractors and combine harvesters increasing. The average specific power kWh-1 is considered as relatively high, but, due to the concentration of production, a decrease in this indicator is possible in the future. The average weighted capacity of the purchased new tractors and combine harvesters has also increased. The increase in the summary capacity of the tractor fleet compensates for the increase in the sowing areas and even exceeds it a little. In its turn, the increase in the summary capacity of the combine fleet allows timely harvesting the significantly increased sowing area, and more than twice the increased totals yield at the end of the period, and, compared to the beginning, slightly shorten the harvesting duration. The calculations do not include weather conditions during the harvesting period. As increase in the sowing areas and total yield is expected still further, upgrading of the tractor fleet should be continued at approximately the same rate - by purchasing, on the average, 600 to 700 new tractors and 80 to 100 new combine harvesters every year. The article deals with theoretical and practical aspects of introducing environmental road tax for motor vehicles registered in the Czech Republic. The article analyses requirements to be met by this type of tax and reviews its functions. Further it analyses practical aspects in the sense of existence of data that is needed for accomplishing the task to find an ideal form of environmental tax. Based on these foundations, the authors identified a suitable model of taxation of motor vehicles registered in 2000 and after. Another aim was finding proper variables as regards the need of calculation of theoretical emission data in motor vehicles registered in the Czech Republic before 2000. The proposed model is expected to use emission limits as declared in technical documentation of motor vehicles registered after 2000 and theoretical limits calculated by means of variables of engine capacity and time in older motor vehicles despite the fact that these variables provide explanation for the analysed emission effect just in case of 58% diesel engines, more precisely in case of 82% petrol engines.

Ambient noise harms a number of citizens in Europe. The major sources of environmental noise are that generated by cars in streets, parking lots, railway lines and airports as well as noise from local sources (fans, transformers). According to the methodology for noise measurement, engine testing has been carried out. The conducted analysis has been focused on engine capacity and the distance between vehicles and equipment. Equivalent, maximum and minimum sound levels at different frequencies have been measured accepting that errors may range up to 2 %. Maximum sound level has been reached using the engine of 2000 cm3 petrol capacity. At a half-meter distance, the equivalent sound level reaches 89 dB(A), whereas the noise level decreases moving away from the car. The obtained results of tested cars disclose that according to engine capacity, the majority of the investigated cars are technically faulty and therefore significantly exceed noise levels.Article in Lithuanian

Environmental degradation has become one of the most acute problems of Almaty. In town for the first nine months of 2013 air pollution index was 11.2. Studies have shown that there are four main sectors emitting dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide: electricity using fossil fuels, manufacturing and mining industries, transport. The presented paper is devoted to analysis of the main reasons for the growth of harmful emissions in the transport sector, as well as the assessment of the consequences of their impact on the national economy. In this article we analyzed the causes of the bad environment and conducted their evaluation in terms of the correcting opportunities through the regulation of vehicle taxation. The paper includes comparative characteristics of the factors and causes of bad environment in different countries of the world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to estimate energy use and exhaust emissions from road traffic, on a regional or a national level, one needs representative emission factors. Emission factors are estimated based on vehicle driving resistance. Driving resistance is estimated based on representative driving patterns and vehicle parameters. In the HBEFA program, used for estimation of road traffic exhaust emissions, the vehicle fleet is divided into vehicle categories. One such category is Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV). The HGV category is divided into vehicle segments after maximum vehicle weight (GVW). One further division is into vehicle combinations, a rigid truck (RT) or a truck with trailer (TT). Vehicle segments are divided into Euro classes approximately corresponding to year model intervals. For each segment and Euro class there is a set of emission factors. Then there is need for vehicle parameters per vehicle segment and Euro class. HGV emission factors on the Euro class level are treated as independent of calculation year. Emission factors for HGV vehicles in HBEFA are calculated by means of the PHEM computer program. The PHEM simulations are based on driving resistance estimation. In order to estimate vehicle parameters, data available in the Swedish national vehicle register (1997, 2004 and 2009) and in transport surveys (1997 and 2003) has been compiled. Survey data including mileage is necessary in order to estimate vehicle parameters for average road conditions. The split into RT and TT segments demands access to mileage data describing the use of trailer. The total number of HGV in the Swedish vehicle fleet is approximately the same 2010 as 1990. Despite this there are most important changes within the HGV fleet in this time period, such as the proportion of trucks with GVW>26t has increased from 6 to 36 per cent. In this group there are some segments with very large changes of proportion. In parallel to an important change in the segment distribution one could expect a change in distribution also inside individual segments and Euro classes by time influencing the average vehicle parameters and finally the emission factors.
