Examines the effects of hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation on the vascular responsiveness of the portohepatic circulation to endothelins. Increase in portal driving pressure, total portal resistance and zero-flow pressure; Decrease in portal flow, sinusoidal diameters and heaptic oxygen delivery.

Focuses on the role of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelins (ETs) in the regulation of hepatic blood flow during resuscitation from haemorrhagic shock (HS). Effects of HS on the hepatic blood flow; Characterization of pathophysiological changes which cause hepatic injury.

Tests whether endothelins are involved in the regulation of portal resistance after endotoxin pretreatment and whether their effects are modulated by nitric oxide. Estimation of the anatomical site or sites where endothelins and nitric oxide regulate resistance in the portal circulation after endotoxin administration.
