- Abstract
Microsporogenesis and development of male gametophyte of Taxus chinensis var. mairei were observed using the parafin wax section. The results were as folows: the staminate strobilus differentiated in the late July, sporogenous cells occurred in the mid-September,and microspore mother cells were formed at the beginning of Novem ber. The development of microspore mother cell was not synchronous in a single staminate strobilus. Meiosis occurred in the middle of November. Before early December staminate strobilus contained separated microspores. The mature polen which was mononuclear formed in late January next year. The polen began to shed in mid to late February. The shedding time lasted for fifteen days or so. The polen divided into two sperms, one tube cell and stalk cell by mi tosis three times after faling into the ovule. The tube cell and stalk cell degenera ted, but polen abortion was not was observed. So, we included that the microsporogenesis and development of male gametophyte of T. chinensis var. mairei were not the endangered factors for this species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
