Abstract

The article offers a response to the position paper "Pathways Forward for Indigenous Language Reclamation: Engaging Indigenous Epistemology and Learning by Observing and Pitching in to Family and Community Endeavors," by Henne–Ochoa et al., which appears within the issue. It discusses efforts towards language revival of the Miami people's endangered, or sleeping, myaamiaataweenki language, including teaching this language to Miami children as a second language.

Abstract

The article discusses Tim McCoy, a Miami Indian and geologist with the U.S. Museum of Natural History, particularly examining his work developing and running a summer camp for Miami children on geology and astronomy. It examines McCoy's learning of the Myaamia language and its incorporation into his summer camps.
