To study human affectivity, the framework of reference is attachment theory. In addition, attachment styles influence the processes of emotional regulation and may be related to specific behaviours within couple relationships. This research aimed to study the relationship between attachment styles, emotional regulation, and satisfaction with the couple’s relationship, as well as to explore the differences between the different types of attachment concerning the use of emotional regulation strategies and satisfaction with the couple’s relationship. The results showed that people with insecure attachment styles use less favourable regulation strategies and have lower couple satisfaction. In contrast, secure attachment promotes favourable regulation strategies for the couple’s relationship. In addition, age and gender were related to the type of attachment styles developed by the individual. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
