Objective: To assess the quality of neonatal transport performed by the Mobile Emergency Medical Services (Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência [SAMU])., Methods: This was a cross-sectional before-and-after observational study. The study was carried out from March to August of 2013 using a validated instrument, the Transport Risk Index of Physiologic Stability (TRIPS), to assess the characteristics of the newborn, medical and mechanical complications (equipment and ambulance), and stability of newborns before and after transport. Tests were conducted with 95% confidence level. Numerical variables are represented by measures of central tendency and dispersion. Categorical variables were compared by Fisher's exact test. In the comparison of variables between the groups, the Student's t-test was used for variables with normal distribution, Fisher exact test, when appropriate, and the Mann-Whitney test, for non-normal distribution., Results: 33 newborns were transported from low-risk units to neonatal intensive care units. Male gender (57.6%) and full-term gestational age (63.6%) were more prevalent. Birth weight<2,500g was found in 39.4% of newborns. Respiratory failure accounted for 42.4% of the requests. The mean transport time was 58 minutes without medical or mechanical complications. The TRIPS score worsened in 15% of neonates; in this group of infants, the mean initial temperature of 36.46±0.19 decreased significantly to 36.08±0.22 (p=0.041)., Conclusion: The transport performed by the SAMU was adequate for most newborns. Background Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is an extremely time-sensitive condition. The field triage of stroke patients should consider a careful balance between the best destination for the timely delivery of intravenous and/or endovascular reperfusion therapies. The Field Assessment Stroke Triage for Emergency Destination (FAST-ED) scale has been shown to have an accuracy comparable to that of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). However, it has not been tested in the field.

Objective: To characterize the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in a referral emergency unit in northern Paraná; analyze the profile of patients affected by COVID-19 regarding gender, color/race, age, marital status, origin and type of referral; measure the average length of hospital stay, from the date of admission of the patient until discharge, determine the percentage of the main hospital outcomes. Method: It was field research with a quantitative, observational, unicentric, descriptive, exploratory and retrospective approach, carried out at the University Hospital of the State University of Londrina, located in the north of the Paraná. The study population consisted of data from 2,800 patients admitted and hospitalized with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 in the Emergency Room of the hospital in question, according to records of the epidemiology center and Medical and Statistical Archive Service, from January 2021 to July 2021. Results: It was observed that most of those affected were male, had a white color, were single and were between 58 and 67 years old. The mean length of hospitalization was 16 days. The Mobile Emergency Care Service obtained the highest referral records and the discharge and death outcomes had very close values. Conclusion: It is concluded that the second wave of COVID-19 was devastating in all segments, reflecting the change in the age profile of those affected, the increase in hospitalization rates, high mortality rates and the close relationship between the hospitalization period and the evolution to death. Objective: to describe the effects of the new coronavirus pandemic carried out by the mobile emergency care service (SAMU) in Senador Canedo-Goiás in the period 2019-2020. Methods: This is a descriptive ecological study, using the SAMU service bulletins of the respective municipality as a source of information, referring to the period from January 2019 to December 2020. The absolute and relative frequencies of the selected variables were calculated and calculated the chi-square test with a significance level of 5% (p< 0.05). Results: In 2019, 1,078 occurrences were recorded, while in 2020, 1,705 were attended, showing an increase in the number of calls between years. Most attendances were male (2019-2020 - 59.4%) aged between 19 and 45 years (2019-2020 - 36.3%). The main place of occurrence was at home (2019-2020 - 45.9%), in the afternoon shift (2019-2020 - 34.1%) and the highest occurrences were carried out on weekends (2019-2020 - 32, 1%). The main type of occurrence was due to assistance in both years (2019-90.5%; 2020-79.6%), although removal/transport showed a significant demand in 2020 (2019-9.5%; 2020- 20.4% - p= <0.0001). The main reason for attendance was due to clinical causes (2019-19.5%; 2020-28.5% - p= 0.914), followed by external causes (2019-15.3%; 2020-26.6% - p=<0.0001). Conclusion: it was observed that the pandemic significantly influenced the increase in cases of occurrences in the year 2020, increasing the number of removals/ transportation, impacting the health service and it is expected that the unpublished data from the sample obtained can serve as a substrate for the planning and execution of measures aimed at improving health care. Objective: To analyze the profile of referrals from the emergency department in a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Methodology: This is a retrospective descriptive observational study. The sample of this study included the data of individuals referred by the emergency department during the year of 2019. At the end of data collection, a descriptive statistical analysis was performed. Results: Valid data from 9,984 referrals were found. The average time to the release of the hospital bed was 26.6 hours (± 35.8). Among all referred patients, 1,592 (15.9%) did not complete their destinations, evolving to one of the following outcomes: medical discharge (9.3%), death (2.3%), patient dropout (2.8%) or termination of its file (1.5%). The average length of stay in the unit for patients who were discharged was 40.8 hours (±36.2), while for those who died it was 40.9 hours (±42.7). Conclusions: The waiting times for releasing the hospital beds requested by the emergency department are longer than those recommended in the literature. This can cause worse outcomes for referred patients and goes beyond the competencies of the emergency service as defined by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: face and content validation of an instrument for Recording the Nursing Process in the Mobile Emergency Care Service. Method: quantitative study of face and content validation of the instrument by a committee of 21 experts in the field of prehospital mobile emergency care nationwide. A Content Validity Index (CVI) equal to or greater than 0.80 determined validation. Results: a CVI of 0.94 was obtained. Only the item ease of reading, related to appearance, had an index below the established. It was possible to evaluate the 99 nursing interventions listed. Conclusion: the instrument for the Nursing Process Record in the Mobile Emergency Care Service was considered valid and can enable the manual documentation of nursing practice in this setting. Objective: To report the importance of offering the cervix for newborns who are in a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit with a maternal or family bond broken by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Methods: This is a descriptive study of the experience report type, based on the implementation of the "colo time" project in a public reference hospital, located in the city of João Pessoa/Paraíba. Results: It was observed that the offer of the cervix had an impact not only on reducing stress and pain in newborns, but on the weight gain in weight as energy expenditure was minimized through the reduction of crying. The length of stay in the unit influenced by weight also decreased when compared to the months prior to the study. Conclusion: Colinho time provided the strengthening of reception in environments that are notoriously recognized as stressful, both for patients and professionals. Objective: To characterize accidents with biological materials and analyze the perception of Mobile Emergency Care Service professionals about the occurrence and post-accident conduct. Methods: Qualitative study, with a descriptive-exploratory approach, conducted with 39 professionals from the occupation. The interviews were conducted in 2020, using a semi-structured interview script and analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis. This study was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the State University of Santa Cruz, through the CAAE number: 29980820.7.0000.5526. Results: After analysis, the quantitative data showed that accidents were more frequent in hygiene professionals and nursing technicians, happening by percutaneous and cutaneous mucous route, mainly in the hands and eyes, during ambulance cleaning and venipuncture. Regarding qualitative data, three categories emerged: feelings experienced by professionals regarding the risk to which they are exposed, accidents risk identification with biological material and conduct in post-exposure care and health care network. Conclusion: It is perceived that concern, fear, and anguish were the feelings most evidenced by the professionals, and that they have basic knowledge about how to handle accidents, despite not knowing the structure of the work system. Objective: To evaluate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the profile of emergency eye-related visits and compare the findings with the same period before the pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study performed during one year at a reference eye hospital. Cases registered at the emergency Municipal Hospital Complex of Santo Andre, Brazil, between March, 2019 and February, 2020 were included in the study as the Pre-pandemic group. Cases registered between March, 2020 and February, 2021 were included as the Pandemic group. Cases were classified according to the International Classification of Diseases ICD-10 and Related Health Problems. Results: There was a decrease of 52.1% in the emergency eye care visits during the pandemic period (n=9,198) when compared to the pre-pandemic period (n=19,220), with significant reductions in nonspecific cases (-98.1%), postoperative visits (-67.0%), disorders of the conjunctiva (-54.1%), tear film (-49.4%) and refraction (-85.6%) during the pandemic period. Conditions such as retina disorders (+202.7%), sclera disorders (+76.2%), orbit disorders (+20.2%), glaucoma (+66.6%) and trauma (+19.4%) have shown increased rates, as well as those related to eyelids (+186.9%), cornea (+33.4%), uvea (+40.2%), and herpes (+55.3%). Conclusion: A drastic reduction in the number of eye-related emergency visits was observed during the Covid-19 pandemic, outlining a new profile of care, with higher frequency of sight-threatening conditions and lower frequency of contagious and non-specific diagnosis. Objective: to know the characteristics of mental health care provided by nursing professionals in emergency medical services. Method: integrative literature review in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Publisher Medline (PUBMED), SciVerse Scopus (SCOPUS) and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), from March to June 2023, using previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: the final sample included 59 articles, which were grouped into the following thematic categories: conceptions in mental health, communication, interventions, network care, competence in mental health care and barriers during care. Conclusion: care is done incipient and permeated by difficult elements. Objective: to develop an analysis matrix to identify problems related to the patient safety culture in an emergency care unit in southern Brazil. Method: the first stage, with a descriptive cross-sectional design, occurred from July to August 2018, with nurses, through the self-application of the instrument "Safety Attitudes Questionaire - SAQ Short Form 2006". In the second stage, with a descriptive exploratory design, the SAQ questions underwent an interpretative analysis, carried out by nurses dedicated to the study of the subject, in April 2021. Results: the problems in the patient safety culture in the emergency care unit were related to the structure, management processes and clinical processes, mainly of an organizational nature. Conclusion: the use of causal chain analysis allowed the construction of an analysis matrix, facilitating the identification of the main problems related to the patient safety culture in the emergency care unit. Introduction: Problems related to patient safety in the pre-hospital context are little explored, but essential, given the vulnerability to incidents. Objective: To analyze the patient safety climate from the perspective of the multidisciplinary team that works in Mobile Pre-Hospital Care (PHC). Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study, conducted in a Mobile Pre-Hospital Care. Data collection was performed through Safety attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ), with convenience sampling and participation rate of 94.3% of eligible professionals. Descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney test were used for data analysis. Results: Among the 151 participating professionals, males predominated (54.6%), nursing assistants and technicians (42.0%), working for 10 or more years (61.0%), in adult and pediatric care (93.4%). The SAQ Total had a median of 70, indicating a negative perception of the participants about patient safety in the APH. The domains with a negative perception were: Safety Climate, Stress Recognition, Management Perception and Working Conditions; while the Teamwork Climate and Job Satisfaction domains showed a positive perception. In the comparative analysis among professionals, differences were observed between some categories for the domains of Job Satisfaction, Stress Recognition and Working Conditions. Conclusions: This study presents the peculiarities of emergency medical services and the need to sensitize professionals and managers about patient safety, with a view to better understanding the current scenario and possibilities of reducing adverse events to improve the care offered. Objective: To identify the scientific evidence in the literature on the use of early warning scales in the identification of adult and elderly patients in clinical deterioration in emergency medical services. Methods: Integrative review, supported by the recommendation Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, with a search mnemonic based on the Populacion - Interest Phenomenon - Context (PICo) strategy, performed in the sources: US National Library of Medicine National Institutes Database Search of Health, Web of Science, SciVerse Scopus, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Rayyan was used in selection and content analysis to analyze the findings. Results: 691 articles were identified, of which 22 composed the sample and 27 scales were listed, with emphasis on the National Early Warning Score, National Early Warning Score 2, Quick Sepsis Related Organ Failure Assessment and Modified Early Warning Score. The scales had similar assessment parameters, characterized by heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and level of consciousness. Conclusion: 27 scales were listed with similar evaluation parameters, in which four were the most prevalent and of these the National Early Warning Score proved to be the most accurate, however evidence shows that the Modified Early Warning Score is the most used in emergency medical services.
