The coupling of AC and DC power will impact the protective actions on the AC side and pose a threat to the stable operation of the interconnection system. Therefore, a new longitudinal protection method is proposed based on the comprehensive distance similarity of voltage waveforms. Initially, the measured voltage and current data are extracted to calculate the reference voltage, and the voltage waveform fitting is optimized. Subsequently, the Euclidean dynamic time warp (DTW) distance and entropy weight method are utilized to process the voltage waveform, enabling the calculation of its comprehensive distance similarity. This similarity is adopted to determine fault location. A hybrid DC multi-feed AC/DC interconnection system, incorporating a line commutated converter-voltage source converter (LCC-VSC) and a line commutated converter-modular multilevel converter (LCC-MMC), was established in PSCAD, and fault data were simulated and output. The effectiveness of the protection scheme was validated using MATLAB. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately distinguish between faults inside and outside a region. When compared to existing protection methods, it demonstrates superior performance in resisting transition resistance and noise interference, while also mitigating the impact of data asynchronicity. Feeder automation is important to improve the reliability of power supply for distribution network. Existing voltage‐time feeder automation scheme exists the problems of long fault processing time and the upstream switches of the fault point need to tolerate fault current twice and the upstream sections need to experience two short time power outage. In this paper, a quick fault location and isolation method for distribution network based on adaptive reclosing is proposed. Three key technologies of the strategy are introduced, including a phase segregated switch of the distribution network based on the permanent magnet operating structure, the phase selector based on transient current characteristics, and the temporary fault and permanent fault identification method based on the power frequency voltage characteristics. The proposed strategy can avoid the second impact on upstream switches and power‐off of the upstream section in case of the permanent fault and can effectively shorten the fault processing time. As Type-3 wind turbine (WT) has already become a typical type of highly penetrated power sources in modern power systems, characterizing its properties during grid fault is a basic requirement for system analysis. However, many significant factors have not been considered in the existing analytical methods and results, such as various switching of internal control and protection circuits in low voltage ride through (LVRT) solutions. In this paper, performance of Type-3 WT during LVRT is first illustrated and summarized as the sequential switching characteristic in multi time scales, viz., instant control, ac control, dc voltage control, and rotor speed control time scales. Thus, for magnitude drops in stator voltage, a mathematical model is proposed to understand this characteristic and fault current analysis's features. Then, an analytical method, based on the operational inductance, is proposed so that fault current components, with the sequential switching considered, can be depicted with a unified and simple analytical expression. By identifying magnitude of symmetrical current, the transient and steady-state equivalent circuits of Type-3 WT are proposed to estimate momentary current and electrical power approximately. Finally, analytical results are verified by comparisons with real-time simulation results of a detailed 1.5 MW WT model in RT-LAB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The fault characteristics of the wind power system, which are reflected in the weak feed features, variation of system impedance, frequency deviation, and non-sinusoidal waveform, will cause the inadaptation of traditional phase selectors to a wind power integration system. In this paper, a new phase selection principle based on the waveform correlation of transient voltage is proposed, which is valid for relay protection of intermittent solar or wind power plants. First, the characteristics of transient voltage of various fault types are deduced according to their boundary conditions. And on this basis, the correlations between the fault transient voltages of every two phases can be acquired. With the differentiated waveform correlations of different fault types, the fault phase selection criterion based on correlation coefficient is formed accordingly. Because it depends on the waveform characteristics of fault transient voltages, the new phase selector is not influenced by the wind power system's fault characteristics and it can select the correct fault phase quickly with high sensitivity. For distance protection, the measurement accuracy at the boundary of protective zone is the most important issue to distinguish internal faults from external faults correctly. Since the line parameters depend strongly on the frequencies, in order to obtain high accuracy, it should be considered during initial fault transients generally associated with plentiful harmonics. In this paper, a distance protection method considering a frequency-dependent parameters is introduced into HVDC transmission lines. According to transmission-line equations, the frequency-dependent parameter model is separated into two parts: 1) distributed parameter model and 2) a compensation matrix related to frequency-dependent parameters, and the latter is approximated in the time domain with finite impulse response filters. So the voltage and current at the setting point are calculated accurately using local sampling data, and the fault distance is obtained by solving differential equations. The proposed algorithm is able to enhance the calculation accuracy of fault distance greatly at the remote-end faults. Furthermore, it is performed in the time domain and, thus, a short data window is sufficient for it to achieve satisfactory accuracy. Abstract: This paper proposes a kind of new Individual Phase Impedance (IPI) and a novel pilot protection scheme for transmission line based on the IPI. The IPI is calculated by the ratio of the voltage difference of fault-superimposed component to the current difference of fault-superimposed component at both terminals of the protected line. The IPI has accurate mathematical expressions and reasonable physical definitions for various line models. The calculated result of IPI can be used to distinguish the internal faults from the external faults. When the IPI is identical to the value of line positive-sequence impedance, the external fault is detected; otherwise, the internal fault is detected if it differs from that value. The feature of the pilot protection scheme is that the inter-phase coupling relation and the distributed capacitance based on the three-phase line model are directly considered and included in the IPI expression. The novel pilot protection can be used for long distance HV transmission lines with some preeminent performances which are deficiency in the conventional directional comparison pilot protection and current differential protection. The test results obtained by EMTP simulation and from a laboratory model of a simplified real power system have demonstrated that the pilot protection is of high reliability and good adaptability.
