The development of self-powered UV photodiode on green substrate is still a challenge. In this study, highly conductive Al doped ZnO (AZO) film was sputter-deposited on paper substrate at room temperature; subsequently, paper-based Schottky photodiodes were successfully fabricated by following Au-ZnO-Al and Au-ZnO-AZO-Al structure designs, respectively. These UV light-based devices operate successfully without external power. Au-ZnO-AZO-Al photodiode shows improved response and faster speed compared to Au-ZnO-Al photodiode. The one-dimensional Poisson simulation results demonstrate that the improvement is attributed to the strong electric field in the ZnO-AZO n-n+ high-low junction, thus, enhancing the collection rate and drifting speed of the photogenerated carriers. In addition, AZO can form favorable ohmic contact with the Al electrodes, further improving the device performance. The photo-response of the paper-based photodiode device shows high reproducibility and stability. Based on these outstanding results, we conclude that these paper-based electronic devices have great potential to replace conventional petroleum-based flexible electronic devices, thus, contributing to the green/sustainable development. The main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding of converter transformer bears the effect of AC and DC superimposed voltage during operation. The electric field intensity in the pressboard is much higher than that in the pressboard in the AC transformer. This condition increases the probability of failure of insulation structure. Therefore, the design and optimization of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding are keys to ensure the stable operation of converter transformer. This study establishes a model of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding of the ±1100 kV converter transformer. The influence of the insulating oil–paper configuration on the electric field distribution of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding is analysed, and then, an optimization idea is proposed. The oil–paper configuration includes two aspects: oil–paper insulation structural design and combination selection, that is, the influence of typical oil–paper structural design parameters and the aging state of different oil–paper combinations on the electric field distribution. Finally, the optimization idea of the oil–paper configuration for valve‐side winding of converter transformer is obtained, and the established model is optimized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Compared to bushings with lower voltage levels, the ±1100 kV converter valve‐side bushing has thicker radial insulation and longer axial insulation resulting in a more uneven temperature distribution and more severe electric field distortion, especially under high‐ambient‐temperature and high‐current conditions. Improving the distribution of the electro‐thermal coupled field of the bushing is critical for the safe operation of converter transformers. This study discusses the distribution of electro‐thermal coupled field of a typical bushing and proposes a new method to evaluate the conductivity of multiple capacitor layers under inhomogeneous axial temperatures. The effects of four bushing designs are investigated as per the adjustment of the capacitor screen structure, the replacement of the current‐carrying structure, and the modification of resin‐impregnated paper material. The results show that merely adjusting the capacitor screens is not feasible due to size limitations. By decreasing heat accumulation, adopting a single‐tube structure and increasing the thermal conductivity of resin‐impregnated paper material can reduce electric field distortion to a certain extent. Unlike the other three methods, hierarchically controlling the material resistance effectively balances the internal and external electric fields. The frequency domain dielectric response method has been one of the most effective approaches for condition assessment of an electrical insulation system. The low‐frequency part is more effective for diagnosing the moisture content and aging status of oil‐paper insulation. To facilitate the study of the low‐frequency dielectric spectrum of oil‐paper insulation, a model applicable to the low‐frequency dielectric response of insulation oil is proposed in this study, which is based on the ionic motion of insulation oil. The creation of charge carriers under field test conditions mainly derives from the dissociation of ionic pairs. During testing, ionic motion of insulation oil is jointly affected by thermal diffusion and the electric field; moreover, dissociation and recombination of negative and positive ions also occur. Therefore, the above factors were all considered in the modelling process. The applicability of the model is verified against measured results. For further interpreting the proposed model, the characteristics of the ionic concentration distribution, the relation between ionic distribution and dielectric properties, and the application of the proposed model are analysed. The oil-impregnated paper, as a vital part in the oil-paper insulation system, serves as the main insulation medium in converter transformer suffering various electric fields. However, the accumulated surface charge on the paper would accelerate the degradation of insulation system and may lead to surface flashover. Direct-fluorination is a method to change the chemical components of polymer matrix thus could affect the surface property of the dielectric material without the alternation of bulk property. This paper presents a method to modify the surface structure of the paper applied in transformers. The paper used in the experiment was treated using the F2/N2 mixture with a volume fraction of 10% for the F2 gas at a pressure of 0.05 MPa in a reaction vessel for 2, 5, 10 and 15 min, respectively. The chemical elements, functional group and physical morphology of the paper before and after modification were measured with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) and scanning electron micrographs (SEM), respectively. Surface and volume resistivity of the fluorinated paper were measured. Furthermore, the surface charge property of the oil-impregnated paper was measured under various positive and negative voltages. Obtained results showed that the fluorination had an obvious influence on the chemical property and surface structure of the paper leading to the reduction of surface and volume resistivity. The treatment was shown to reduce the initial potential and cause acceleration in charge decay process. The trap distribution of the paper surface presented alternation as well. To optimize the insulation design of high-temperature superconductivity (HTS) cable, the multilayer wrapping cable insulation properties in the liquid nitrogen should be studied. In this paper, we investigated the breakdown properties of multilayer wrapping of cable insulation in liquid nitrogen. AC and dc breakdown tests of a minimodel cable with an insulation floor composed of polypropylene laminate paper (PPLP), PPLP/100HN (DuPont polyimide film), PPLP/100CR (DuPont polyimide film), and PPLP/150FCR019 (DuPont polyimide film) and of singer-layer sheets, including PPLP, 100HN, 100CR, and 150FCR019, respectively, were performed in liquid nitrogen. The breakdown characteristics of the sheets and model cable insulation consisting of PPLP and composite insulation schemes according to the arrangement of PPLP/HN, PPLP/100CR, and PPLP/150FCR019 were compared. For the sheets, the ac breakdown strength of 100HN is greater than that of 100CR; this may be because there are large amounts of organic-inorganic interface in 100CR. The dc breakdown strength of 100CR is greater than that of 100HN, which may be because the space charge of 100CR homogenizes the electric field. For the minimodel cable insulation, the dc and ac breakdown strengths of the composite insulation in which the third layer of wrapping tape insulation material was composed of three layers of 100HN, which is overlapped completely, are greater than those of the insulation consisting of PPLP and other composite insulations. Abstract: The elastic band structure of a two-dimensional phononic crystal (PC) with electrorheological (ER) material is investigated and the plane-wave-expansion (PWE) method is adopted to solve the problem in this paper. The ER material is used to act as a tunable elastic composite inserts and its material parameter can be changed by the applied electric fields. Variations of the band gaps for the phononic composite system are also calculated with various electric fields and it is found to have a significant effect on the band gaps of the phononic system with ER material inserts. The band gaps of the smart system can be controlled and the acoustic characteristics of the system are also changed by applied different electric fields. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The use of paper in electrical insulation, especially in power transformers, remains a topical subject. The interest for the insulating paper, despite the emergence of many synthetic materials is ascribed to its low cost price and its ability to an oil impregnation. However its strong hydrophilic character remains the main difficulty for its implementation in electrical insulation. This affinity to water absorption and/or adsorption shows that a good understanding of the moisture effect becomes imperative. Several studies were carried out on the subject but a systematic study of the moisture effect on overall behavior of paper has not been achieved. This work is meant to be a contribution for this systematic investigation. The first step of this study, which is the object of the present article, concerns an examination of time variation of the electrical currents, under dc stress, for different moisture levels. A particular attention is given to the polarization and depolarization currents. These currents are examined during alternate charges and discharges sequences. An increase of the current, during the application of continuous voltage was noticed. This unexpected phenomenon would be related to an electro-dissociation and/or polarization processes. In a multilayer insulator made of two or more materials with different dielectric constants and conductivities, internal space change accumulates at their interfaces. If the local field is increased by the accumulated charge, the electric durability of the insulator should be decreased. In this paper, we describe the space charge accumulation measured when oil-impregnated PPLP (polypropylene laminated paper), which consists of three layers, kraft paper, polypropylene (PP), and kraft paper, was subjected to a strong dc electric field. The article presents the results of comparative investigations of partial discharges in two insulation systems; aramid-enhanced cellulose paper-mineral oil, and pure cellulose paper-mineral oil. Partial discharges were investigated in a diagonal electric field with vertical and horizontal components. This field is treated as the most dangerous for insulation. The research was carried out on Nomex® 910 paper and cellulose paper samples, each paper being 0.25 mm thick. Samples of the two materials were tested at four levels of moisture. The inception voltage of partial discharges of all samples tested decreased as their moisture content increases. It was also proved that Nomex® 910 has a significantly higher partial discharge inception voltage than the cellulose paper, although this difference decreased with increasing moisture content.
