El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar las tendencias en la oferta formativa de las maestrías en educación en las especialidades de Gestión de la Educación y Currículo en el Perú. Para el estudio documental se revisaron las páginas web de 95 universidades licenciadas en el Perú, en las cuales se halló información sobre la oferta formativa de ambas especialidades en 36 universidades, encontrando 36 programas de Gestión de la Educación en 33 universidades y 3 universidades que ofertan la especialidad de Currículo. Para el análisis de información se utilizaron matrices documentales acordes a las siguientes categorías: ubicación geográfica, duración, plan de estudios, tipos de cursos (teóricos e investigación), entre otros. Entre los resultados más importantes tenemos que las universidades presentan parcialmente información sobre sus programas; solo existen tres programas de la especialidad de Currículo y 36 relacionados con Gestión de la Educación. Los programas son maestrías profesionales y esto se evidencia por la cantidad de cursos relacionados con la especialidad, aunque existe una incidencia en formar investigadores, además de que las habilidades blandas son parte de la formación de los expertos en ambas especialidades.

This article examines four preadolescent girls' physical lives over three years inside and outside of schools (fourth, fifth, and sixth grades). The girls participated in a school-based physical education intervention during the first two years that was designed to enhance their physical activity (PA) choices in both environments. At the conclusion of each year, the girls were interviewed about their activities and attitudes about PA. Results showed varying commitments to a variety of activities including team sports, individual activities, and fitness challenges. Although their attitudes varied across the three years, each experienced a variety of social influences relative to their levels of participation. Most importantly was the support of family, friends, and teachers. In addition, they identified motivating environmental influences such as home equipment, local clubs and classes, and local recreation programs. Barriers included lack of skill or fitness levels, team competition, dislike for fragmented skill practice, lack of support, and fear of unsafe environments. Accessing higher education without having to overcome bureaucratic hurdles is a serious concern for refugees. Although empirical studies on the integration and success of refugees in higher education are scarce, the challenges related to this issue are becoming apparent. The Success and Opportunities for Refugees in Higher Education (SUCCESS) research project has been launched to investigate the effectiveness of new online study programs offered on the Kiron Open Higher Education (Kiron) platform that provides refugees with access to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). SUCCESS measures the prior knowledge and skills of refugee students and investigates to what extent their study opportunities, learning processes, and chances of academic success can be improved effectively through different forms of support provided in Kiron. In this paper, we present the assessment framework and study design of the SUCCESS project as well as data on 1,376 students entering the study program in Kiron in summer 2017. As students' language skills, intellectual abilities, and prior study-related knowledge play a significant role in their performance in higher education degree programs, we focus on the crucial introductory study phase and valid diagnostics of students' study preconditions. We analyze refugee students' socio-biographical and educational data such as gender, country of origin, highest level of education achieved etc. and examine their English language skills, intellectual abilities, and previous study domain related knowledge. We find extreme differences in levels of education and preconditions on starting to study in Kiron. This study examined the role of science domain knowledge, reading motivation, and decoding skills in reading comprehension achievement in third-grade students who are English learners (ELs) and students who are monolingual, using a nationally representative data set. Multigroup probit regression analyses showed that third-grade science domain knowledge and motivation for reading, decoding skills, and early attainment of decoding skills were significantly associated with third-grade reading comprehension in both language groups. Also, using Wald chi-square tests, the study showed that the association between third-grade science domain knowledge and reading comprehension was stronger in students who were ELs than in students who were monolingual. These findings suggest that cultivating science domain knowledge is very important to supporting reading comprehension development in third grade, particularly for students who are ELs.

Introduction Medical schools are increasingly attempting to prepare future physicians for diverse new leadership roles in the health care system. Many schools have implemented didactic leadership curricula, with varying levels of structure and success. Project-based learning via completion of real-world projects using a team-based approach remains an underutilized approach to developing student leadership skills. Methods We designed and implemented the Medical Educational Consulting Group (Med ECG)—a student-run consulting program that provides medical students with opportunities to develop leadership skills by completing consulting projects with local clients. We provide an overview of the Med ECG model, including a combination of didactic training sessions and project-based learning via both simulation and real-world projects. Surveys were used to evaluate the value of Med ECG to clients, the community, and students. Results Fourteen medical students (eight first-years, two second-years, three third-years, and one fourth-year, including five dual-degree candidates) completed the Med ECG program. Client feedback pointed to the value of Med ECG's projects and their impact on the community through partner organizations. Finally, linear regression analysis showed a strong positive correlation (R2 = .61) between the amount of effort devoted to various leadership attributes and the perceived improvement while working with Med ECG. Discussion Med ECG's experiences show that a medical student-led project-based learning program is a novel way to develop leadership skills for future physician leaders. Efforts to replicate these types of programs will help additional students develop their leadership and business skills, making a positive impact outside of the classroom.
