/// As a result of the confinement provoked by the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions around the world employed various remote strategies to continue with the students' educational process; however, given the long period of confinement, various affectations emerged, mainly related to emotional, physical health, social, academic, and technical issues. The objective of this research was to determine the main effects that students at a university campus in Mexico had while studying in the distance mode during the confinement, as well as to identify if there is a difference between the effects found among the students of the different disciplinary areas that conform the campus. A total of 475 students were surveyed and the means of the responses were compared, showing that the main effects were emotional, physical and academic, as well as that there are significant differences in three of the six disciplinary areas investigated. It was also found that the social affectation was not significant. The findings confirm that four of the five most frequent affectations found in the literature were also present in the university students of the Campus in all their disciplinary areas, which confirms that it is essential to have holistic visions of distance learning in order to face the challenges that educational systems will face in the future.

The World Health Organization considers physical activity (PA) a fundamental link in preventing non-communicable diseases. In this sense, the workplace is internationally recognized as a framework for studying and promoting health. The aim of this study is to use pedometers to quantify levels of PA in different professional strata on a university campus (students, teachers, administrative officers and cleaning staff). The PA patterns were determined on the basis of the number of steps taken and how they varied according to working days or holidays. The results show a characteristic pattern common to all strata, determined by decreased PA at the weekends. Except for the administration sector, the other groups met the daily recommendations of PA according to steps. The university environment can be considered an enabling environment for PA and an appropriate one for promoting plans to improve health both inside and outside of it.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to discuss, from a pedagogical and architectural perspective, the Brazilian university territory, the university campus model. To that end, we traversed a path that began with the creation of European universities from the twelfth century, located in the cities, passed through North American universities that settled in the country, to get to Brazil. Our first universities, focused on training staff necessary to the State, the political and cultural leaders, settled in the city. In the 1960s, with the modernization process of Brazilian society, the university came to be seen as the research locus to accelerate scientific and technological development. In the planning of university campuses, modernist-rationalist architecture was chosen. The reasons for this choice as well as a critique of the model were focused on the text. SummaryAtrial fibrillation (AF) patients are at high risk for thrombotic and vascular events related to their cardiac arrhythmia and underlying systemic atherosclerosis. Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) is a non-invasive tool in evaluating systemic atherosclerosis, useful in predicting cardiovascular events in general population; no data are available in AF patients. ARAPACIS is a prospective multicentre observational study performed by the Italian Society of Internal Medicine, analysing association between low ABI (≤0.90) and vascular events in NVAF out- or in-patients, enrolled in 136 Italian centres. A total of 2,027 non-valvular AF (NVAF) patients aged > 18 years from both sexes followed for a median time of 34.7 (interquartile range: 22.0–36.0) months, yielding a total of 4,614 patient-years of observation. Mean age was 73 ± 10 years old with 55% male patients. A total of 176 patients (8.7%) experienced a vascular event, with a cumulative incidence of 3.81%/patient-year. ABI≤ 0.90 was more prevalent in patients with a vascular event compared with patients free of vascular events (32.2 vs 20.2%, p< 0.05). On Cox proportional hazard analysis, ABI≤ 0.90 was an independent predictor of vascular events (hazard ratio (HR): 1.394, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.042–1.866; p=0.02), vascular death (HR: 2.047, 95% CI: 1.255-3.338; p=0.004) and MI (HR: 2.709, 95%> CI: 1.485-5.083; p=0.001). This latter association was also confirmed after excluding patients with previous MI (HR: 2.901, 95% CI: 1.408-5.990, p=0.004). No association was observed between low ABI and stroke/transient ischaemic attack (p=0.91). In conclusion, low ABI is useful to predict MI and vascular death in NVAF patients and may independently facilitate cardiovascular risk assessment in NVAF patients.Note: The review process for this paper was fully handled by C. Weber, Editor in Chief.Listed in the Supplementary Online Appendix Material which is available online at www.thrombosis-online.com.

This research article aims to show the academic achievement in the form of marks of students of the third year's subject 'Teaching and Learning English' located in the Degree in Primary Education (Faculty of Education, University of Murcia, Spain). Our corpus of participants has five different groups (including the bilingual group) with a total number of n=1496 students with an average per academic year of n=374 students whose marks have been analysed comparing four different academic years. Taking into account the subject programme, the performance of the students during the normal year, during the lockdown, in the blended learning year (face-to-face and online) and in the return-to-normal year have been analysed. The results show that in both the lockdown and the blended learning year the performance is higher than in the other academic years, which leads us to question whether the pandemic really influenced the assessment and teaching conditions of the subject. This paper examines how a small university in eastern Canada implemented a form of cross-border education with several partnerships in Bermuda and the Caribbean. The university made the transition from a campus-based university to a more inclusive, global institution. Capacity-building at the institution increased during this time of rapidly growing global competition as this university shifted to a cross-border, trans-modal education through programme mobility. The international programmes that were initiated employed a variety of multi-mode technologies within a framework of blended learning. This approach to learning was negotiated through participation in a community of inclusive practices, acknowledging the value of local contributions. In the final section, reflections on the process of developing global partnerships and lessons learnt are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ANCIENT philosophy ,PHILOSOPHY of education ,GRADUATE education ,UNDERGRADUATE programs - Abstract
The questions over the endeavors of the humanities and social sciences have the merit of being renewed with each generation and context. Philosophy is no exception and one question emerges: why is philosophy useful for research? In this article we contribute an answer to such a question, considering the study of philosophy in Mexican education to exemplify our reflection, which was motivated by the issue that philosophy is being overlooked and even excluded from education and research training in Latin American countries. Hence, we also discuss the importance of philosophy as a research tool that should be more prominent in undergraduate and graduate programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bombus species are pollinators of agricultural crops and wild flora, contributing to food production and the maintenance of biodiversity. Thus, it is important to perform research aimed to get a better knowledge to preserve them and use them in crop pollination programs. This study was performed at U.D.C.A’s campus, located in the northern part of the Sabana of Bogota, Colombia. The objectives of this study were to identify the Bombus species found visiting flowers at the University campus, to register the hours of major activity, and to report how their activity was affected by daily environmental temperature changes. Additionally, the flora visited was identified and the number of visits to the flora was recorded. Two Bombus species were found: B.robustusand B. atratus, the latest being the most abundant at the University campus. Two peaks of activity at temperatures that oscillated between 16°C and 19°C were observed. Eighteen plant species were visited being clover, Trifolium pretense(Fabaceae) the most visited one Incluye referencias bibliográficas
