The growing concerns regarding the risks of transmitting the COVID-19 virus have intensified the job-related stressors commonly encountered by teachers in various cultural contexts. Evidence shows how the COVID-19 crisis has negatively impacted teachers' mental health outcomes such as stress, depression, and quality of life, which highlights the significance of designing psychological programs to boost teachers' well-being. This study examined the effects of a well-being intervention based on the Positivity, Relationship, Outcomes, Strength, Purpose, Engagement, and Resilience (PROSPER) framework on well-being outcomes among 76 in-service teachers (M

This study investigates the effectiveness of a short film, END-O, as an educational tool for enhancing medical students' understanding of endometriosis and its impact on patients' quality of life. Endometriosis, a prevalent yet often underdiagnosed condition affecting women, presents significant physical and emotional challenges. A qualitative approach was employed, involving 23 sixth-year medical students randomly assigned to either a study group (n=11) that viewed the film or a control group (n=12) that did not. Following a lecture on endometriosis, both groups completed questionnaires assessing their understanding and perceptions of the disease. The study group demonstrated significantly greater recognition of symptoms (p = 0.005) and expressed more detailed insights regarding the disease's impact on life, including emotional and social dimensions. The findings suggest that the film effectively promotes empathy and a deeper understanding of endometriosis among future healthcare providers, highlighting the importance of integrating humanistic approaches in medical education. This intervention may contribute to addressing the critical underdiagnosis and undertreatment of endometriosis.

There is evidence showing that the triarchic model of grit and its dimensions (i.e., perseverance of effort, consistency of interests, and adaptability to situations) predict engagement and well-being outcomes in high school and undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. However, there has been limited research on how this model of grit relates to engagement and optimal psychological outcomes in primary school students. This research investigates the association of grit's dimensions with academic engagement in math and science as well as well-being outcomes (i.e., positive emotions, negative emotions, and flourishing) in primary school students. Participants were primary school students ( Mage = 10.42; SDage = 1.26) from Hong Kong (n = 279) and Macau (n = 124). Results showed that perseverance of effort positively predicted cognitive and behavioral engagement in math as well as positive emotions even after controlling for demographic covariates (i.e., age, gender, setting, and year level), conscientiousness, and achievement goal orientations. Adaptability to situations positively predicted cognitive and social engagement in math and flourishing. Consistency of interests negatively predicted both cognitive engagement in science and negative emotions. Indeed, this study indicates that perseverance and adaptability may facilitate children's positive academic and psychological functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

There is mixed evidence about the educational impacts of Facebook with some research indicating how using Facebook facilitates academic outcomes while other investigations showing the link of Facebook usage to maladaptive educational outcomes such as reduced academic self-efficacy and performance. Prior studies also paid much attention to the academic-related consequences of this social networking in Western societies such as the United States which might have limited generalizability to students from non-Western countries. This study contributes to this line evidence by exploring whether Facebook use intensity dimensions would predict academic self-efficacy and study habits in selected Filipino undergraduate students using a path analytic approach. A survey packet comprising questionnaires about Facebook use and academic self-efficacy was administered to 566 Filipino undergraduate students. Results of path analysis via full maximum likelihood estimation approach demonstrated that whereas self-expression positively predicted academic self-efficacy, overuse negatively predicted this outcome. Boredom positively predicted study habits. This research has implications for understanding how different motives of using social media platforms can influence academic behaviors in higher education contexts.

Background: The Health Institute for Well-being (INSABI) in Mexico offers an online course on Primary Health Care (PHC) that contributes to the implementation of the Model of Health Care for Well-Being (MAS-Bienestar). This study, conducted in a general hospital in the highly populated area of Acapulco in the state of Guerrero on the southwestern coast of Mexico, provides a unique perspective on PHC implementation. Objetive: To determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding PHC in the healthcare personnel of a secondary hospital in Mexico. Materials and methods: A self-administered KAP questionnaire was used in a cross-sectional study involving 200 health-care workers at the Hospital General Renacimiento. Results: The mean knowledge score was 6.58 (SD = 1.7), and 59 % of participants (n = 117) had a score above the mean, while the mean practice score was 5.96 (SD = 1.38) and 34 % of the participants (n = 68) were above the mean. The final multiple linear regression model showed that time working in the hospital and having previously been trained in PHC were significant factors for knowledge. At the same time, gender was substantial for practices, with females scoring significantly lower on this dimension. After attitude was dichotomized into positive and negative, a binary logistic regression model showed that positive attitudes were associated with taking the PHC course. Conclusions: While most of the participants had positive KAP to PHC, there was a general notion that PHC only involved healthcare workers at the first level. Training in PHC is essential to improving the knowledge and attitudes of healthcare personnel.

We present the Herschel-SPIRE photometric atlas for a complete flux limited sample of 43 local Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs), selected at 60${\mu}$m by IRAS, as part of the HERschel ULIRG Survey (HERUS). Photometry observations were obtained using the SPIRE instrument at 250, 350 and 500${\mu}$m. We describe these observations, present the results, and combine the new observations with data from IRAS to examine the far-IR spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of these sources. We fit the observed SEDs of HERUS objects with a simple parameterised modified black body model where temperature and emissivity $\beta$ are free parameters. We compare the fitted values to those of non-ULIRG local galaxies, and find, in agreement with earlier results, that HERUS ULIRGs have warmer dust (median temperature T = 37.9+/-4.7 K compared to 21.3+/-3.4 K) but a similar $\beta$ distribution (median $\beta$ = 1.7 compared to 1.8) to the Herschel reference sample (HRS, Cortese et al., 2014) galaxies. Dust masses are found to be in the range of 10^7.5 to 10^9 Msun significantly higher than that of Herschel Reference Sample (HRS) sources. We compare our results for local ULIRGs with higher redshift samples selected at 250 and 850${\mu}$m. These latter sources generally have cooler dust and/or redder 100-to-250 ${\mu}$m colours than our 60${\mu}$m-selected ULIRGs. We show that this difference may in part be the result of the sources being selected at different wavelengths rather than being a simple indication of rapid evolution in the properties of the population., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

ComputingMilieux_PERSONALCOMPUTING ,Education - Abstract
Research has shown the potential of employing video game platforms for second language acquisition. Nevertheless, few studies have addressed the impact of non-educational commercial video games on second language learning as reported by the players themselves. Likewise, little research has studied in detail which are the aspects that players consider to be the most engaging when playing a commercial video game, related to language acquisition. This study aims at examining the player-reported impact of commercial video games on English language acquisition, in light of subjective gaming variables such as perceived enjoyment and complexity. 331 participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire along 12 days, enquiring about their gaming practices and the impact they perceive video games to have on English as a second language (ESL) acquisition. Correlations between variables were found employing Spearman’s rho. Results show on one hand that players see a significant correlations of video game practice on ESL skills, based on subjective perceptions of gaming. On the other hand, correlations were found between three game genre categories and language acquisition, in order to explore whether different characteristics inherent to each game category have a differential influence in learning, according to player reports. Results show that various video game categories have differential correlations, according to genre-dependent and playability variables (such as pacing, playability, interaction, and language quality and breadth). Participants also suggest reasons why different gaming categories can have a greater impact on second language learning, and mention qualitative differences in language use influenced by diverse gaming practices. Additionally, participants list video game genres different from those employed in the present analysis, and mention their perceived influence on second language acquisition. Findings from this study suggest that first, commercial games may indeed contribute to second language acquisition, in terms of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary acquisition. Second, findings also suggest that second language acquisition varies depending on the game content, playability, pace, and interaction type. Finally, findings suggest that the highest potential for language learning is perceived within online massively played role-playing games, where the game presents a relatively complex content and the players are forced to read and listen to the input from the game in order to progress. Not only this, the highest learning potential can also be attributed to the necessity of interacting with other human players in a context where English becomes the lingua franca. Insights gained from this study can help integrate video game platforms into traditional classroom-based contexts, in order to exploit the affordances of using new technologies in learning (particularly, exploring and designing learning scenarios within non-educational video games, exploiting their large appeal and the broad offer of resources contemporarily).

The short report investigates the impact of perfectionistic tendencies on career decidedness. One hundred seventy two Filipino college students (N=172) served as respondents of the inquiry. Findings revealed that organization positively correlates to occupational knowledge and training while parental expectations positively correlate to decidedness. Parental expectations served as the robust predictor of decidedness. Students with low perfectionism scored higher on decidedness and comfort. On the other hand, those with high levels of perfectionism experienced greater self-clarity, occupational knowledge and training, decisiveness, and career choice importance. From these results, the positive and negative contributions of perfectionism on the process making career decisions are illustrated. Implications of the findings are elaborated.

GOAL (Psychology) ,PERSEVERANCE (Ethics) ,ADAPTABILITY (Personality) ,EDUCATION ,EMPLOYMENT - Abstract
The positive human attributes of passion and perseverance for long-term goals (referred to as ‘grit’) can be linked to wide range of positive educational, psychological, and employment outcomes. The original grit theory posits that there are two dimensions which characterize determination for long-term aspirations ―
perseverance of effort andconsistency of interests ―but some studies using quantitative design have suggested thatconsistency of interests may not be associated with adaptive outcomes in collectivist and interdependent societies. The aim of the qualitative study described here was to explore the meaning and significance of ‘grit’ in a collectivist society (Philippines). Participants were 10 Filipino undergraduate students who were interviewed individually and asked to describe specific life experiences wherein they have successfully achieved long-term goals despite challenges in life. Findings suggest that there are three key themes which characterize determination for long-term goals in this collectivist setting, namelyperseverance of effort, consistency of interests, andadaptability to situations . The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The current manual is purported to provide an empirical guide in facilitating a group intervention that will address career indecision among adolescents. It utilized Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as the major framework of the treatment protocol. Prior to the group facilitation, prospective members will be screened through an interview and Career Decision Profile. It consists of six sessions (one and a half hour every session) which will be executed on a weekly basis. With the intention of modifying negative beliefs that the members hold about themselves in relation to career decision-making, specific activities and processing procedures were charted each session that ranged from individual cognitive exercises to dyadic behavioral role-plays. Each session will be monitored by the group counselor via group case notes to properly document therapeutic encounters which is essential in achieving the intended outcomes. At the end of the group intervention, members will be assessed through group feedback and administering of Career Decision Profile to look at the positive changes on their levels of capabilities to make career decisions.

This paper focuses on the context and the use of social media and its applications and collaborative tools by teachers in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Mechanisms offered by these media allow users to establish new strategies based on collaboration and communication in multiple directions that were unthinkable a few years ago. The main contributions of these media are its features, namely: interconnection of its users in real time and deferred; collaboration eliminating distances, membership, outreach and assessment of scientific works, among others. Throughout these pages affects the ability to make the most of the forms of communication and interaction offered by these means to teachers. Such is its impact, which arises as an object of the question that concerns us here, if the domain of social media can be considered as a new teacher competence in its own right. Proper use of these media reflects a new social organization based on cooperation and compromise. The training of teachers in this competition can be, in short, a priority that allows universities successfully tackle the current and future challenges of the dynamic and changing context of the EHEA. In conclusion, teaching and research dimensions of university teachers in the learning society are constantly evolving, directly related to the rapid development of social media.

Abstract Background Past studies of grit's educational benefits, such as science engagement, showed mixed results across cultures. So, we elaborated the prior model of grit (perseverance of effort, consistency of interest) with adaptability to situations (forming a triarchic model of grit TMG), and tested TMG's relation to subsequent science engagement. Methods In this study, 1,972 high school students in Hong Kong, mainland China, and the Philippines completed surveys twice (about 6 months apart). We analysed these data with multilevel structural equation modelling. Results Results showed that country income (GDP per capita) negatively predicted science engagement, while schools with the highest ability students had higher science engagement. Conscientiousness and overall grit positively predicted science engagement at both time periods. Consistency of interest negatively predicted science engagement. Conclusions This research demonstrates the potential academic benefits of grit in non-Western societies. Promoting grit may serve as a pathway towards greater students’ engagement in science.
