Abstract The plantation sector is a sector that has an important and strategic role in development. This is reflected in the role of the plantation sector as a provider of employment opportunities, meeting the domestic industry's needs for consumption and raw materials and achieving added value through increased competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the effect of the real exchange rate and volatility on Indonesia's leading plantation export commodities to trade partner countries from 1997 to 2016. The research method used is the estimated gravity model with fixed or random effects. The results showed that the exchange rate and volatility positively and negatively affected plantation exports. Thus, the Government must adopt policies to increase the competitiveness of domestic products and anticipate competition between domestic exporters. In addition, exchange rate stabilization policies are needed to control volatility to reduce uncertainty's impact on Indonesia's plantation exports. Abstract The objective of this study is to determine how internet access affects social capital in Indonesia’s community, based on the data from the fifth wave of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) with the instrumental variable (IV) method. The results showed that the use of the Internet plays a significant role in strengthening social capital in Indonesia, especially for male heads of households that have a relationship with neighbors with strong internal cohesion and mutual trust. Internet users in Java and Bali are more affectial in strengthening social capital compared to users outside the islands located in eastern Indonesia. This disparity is because most Indonesian internet users live in the western part of the country. Furthermore, there is a development disparity in regard to internet infrastructure and internet connection service availability throughout the country.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh modal sosial terhadap kemiskinan di Provinsi Jawa Barat. Data penelitian ini berasal dari hasil Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) yang dilakukan pada tahun 2014. Dalam penelitian ini, variabel modal sosial diwakili oleh empat konsep, yaitu saling percaya, toleransi, kelompok, dan jaringan. Selain itu, studi ini juga menggunakan dua variabel instrumen, yaitu lama tinggal dan lokasi tempat tinggal untuk mengoreksi masalah endogenitas dengan menggunakan model estimasi Instrumental Variable Probit (IVP). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa modal sosial mempengaruhi kemiskinan secara negatif dan signifikan. Selain itu, lama pendidikan sebagai proksi modal manusia juga secara signifikan mengurangi kemungkinan suatu rumah tangga menjadi miskin. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, selain meningkatkan kualitas infrastruktur dan memberikan bantuan keuangan untuk pendidikan, lembaga pemerintah di wilayah Jawa Barat juga diharapkan memfasilitasi rumah tangga miskin untuk berpartisipasi secara sosial dan mendorong pengembangan organisasi sosial untuk pengembangan modal sosial dalam upaya untuk mengentaskan kemiskinan di Provinsi Jawa Barat.

Abstract: Arisan or Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) constitute one of the most commonly found informal financial institutions in the developing world. This study aims to analyze the effect of Rotating Savings And Credit Associations (ROSCAs) on poverty in Indonesia using panel data sourced from the fourth and fifth wave of the Family Life Survey (IFLS). This study used a conditional logit or fixed effect logit to see the effect of Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) participation and control variables, which include individual, household, and community characteristics on poverty variables that are binary or categorized. The results showed that Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) participation can reduce poverty. Meanwhile, this study shows that women who participate in Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) can reduce poverty significantly. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh arisan (ROSCAs) terhadap kemiskinan di Indonesia dengan menggunakan data panel yang bersumber dari Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) gelombang keempat dan kelima. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Conditional Logit atau Fixed Effect Logit untuk melihat pengaruh variabel partisipasi arisan dan variabel kontrol yang meliputi karakteristik individu, rumah tangga, dan komunitas terhadap variabel kemiskinan yang bersifat biner atau kategori. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi arisan dapat mengurangi kemiskinan. Selain itu, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perempuan yang berpartisipasi dalam arisan dapat mengurangi kemiskinan secara signifikan. Kata kunci: Kemiskinan, arisan, IFLS, conditional logit

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of government spending on social protection and security order sectors on crime using police data from 26 police stations in West Java during 2012-2016. The research method used is the fixed effect Pooled EGLS (Cross Section Weights). Also, to test the consistency of the main variables studied, this study features robust First Difference-Generalized Method Moment (FD-GMM) and System-Generalized Method Moment (SYS-GMM). The results showed that the combination of government spending in the security order and social protection sectors had a negative and significant effect on the total amount of crime. These results prove that the government's budget policy can create a positive contribution to reducing crime rates. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah fixed effect Pooled EGLS (Cross Section Weights). Selain itu, untuk menguji konsistensi dari variabel utama yang diteliti, penelitian ini juga dilengkapi robust First Difference-Generalized Method Moment (FD-GMM) dan System- Generalized Method Moment (SYS-GMM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi pengeluaran pemerintah di sektor ketertiban keamanan dan perlindungan sosial berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap jumlah total kriminalitas. Hasil tersebut membuktikan bahwa kebijakan anggaran pemerintah mampu memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap penurunan angka kriminalitas. Oil palm replanting is a long-term investment decision and requires relatively large amount of capital. Decision of farm households for oil palm replanting was determined by their economic condition and behavior on production and consumption. The objectives of this research are to analyze the role of household saving behavior for oil palm replanting and to determine the factors affecting household saving for replanting purpose. The research conducted at Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Data were collected from a survey to 113 households with the age of oil palm trees between 21and 33 years which are purposively sampled. The role of household saving for replanting was measured by economic ability of replanting, which is the ratio between replanting savings and the total requirement for replanting costs. The factors affected household saving for replanting was analyzed using a multiple regression method. The descriptive results of the study showed that 46.02 percent of the households’sampled had savings for replanting, while the rest 56.98 percent had no saving. Households’ economic ability for replanting was only 10.81 percent, very far from the required costs. The factors that could household saving were land area to be replanted, total household income, and credit of household for non-replanting purpose; while the age of oil palm, household size, expenditure per capita and loan repayment variables could reduce the saving. The implication of this research are: households should plan and implement gradual replanting program; and they should increase the savings, particularly some years before achieving the optimal replanting age.Keywords: saving, farm household, oil palm, replanting.JEL Classifications: D10, D14, D24
