This article focuses on the impeachment process of Dilma Rousseff in Brazil, as well as the economic policies and the performance of the economy under the Temer administration, between 2016 and 2018. The article shows that Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment favored a stronger neoliberal thrust advocated especially by financial markets, and that contrary to the proclaimed objectives of the new administration, the economic policies adopted against recession did not lead to an expressive economic recovery, or to an improvement of the fiscal situation of the central government. Instead, the accelerated privatization and denationalization of the economy since the impeachment has further perpetuated stagnation, reinforced indebtedness, and reduced the capacity of the central government to respond.

This work aims to describe the economic policies adopted by Argentinian government during the 2000s, particularly between 2003 and 2011, as well as to describe the performance of the economy, through a method of historical description. The text argues that economic policies were successful to foster employment, but that they were helped by previous low utilization of existing industrial capacity, low exchange rates and increasing demand for commodities. It concludes that implemented policies were adequate but that structural deficiencies may prevent future growth, specially Argentina’s heavy dependence on foreign trade.

The paper aims to evaluate the macroeconomic performance of the economy of the United States during first administration of Barack Obama (2009-2012).

Utilizando o método histórico-descritivo, este texto analiza o criterio das políticas económicas adoptadas por Arxentina, así como o comportamento da economía ao longo dos anos 2000, en especial entre os anos 2003 e 2011. Arguméntase que a política económica conseguiu incrementar o volume de emprego, aínda que se aliaron diversos elementos que explican o crecemento obtido, tales como a alta capacidade instalada previamente na industria, a desvalorización cambiaria e o aumento da demanda internacional por “commodities”. Conclúese que as políticas adoptadas tiveron éxito na recuperación do volume de emprego, aínda que a economía presenta debilidades que poden dificultar a obtención dunha traxectoria similar no futuro, en particular polo que se refire á dependencia do comercio exterior.
