Academic scheduling problems usually assume deterministic and known in advance data. However, this situation is not often met in practice, since data may be subject to uncertainty and it may change over time. In this paper, we introduce a general rescheduling framework to address such dynamic scheduling problems. The framework consists mainly of a controller that makes use of a solver. The solver can assume deterministic and static data, whereas the controller deals with the uncertain and dynamic aspects of the problem and it is in charge of triggering the solver when needed and when possible. Extensive tests are carried out for the job shop problem, and we demonstrate that the framework can be used to ascertain the benefit of using rescheduling over static methods, decide between rescheduling policies, and finally we show that it can be applied in real-life applications due to a low time overhead. Mobile edge computing has been an important supplement for traditional cloud computing architecture to offer low-delay computing services to mobile users. However, it is in general impossible for edge service providers to overdeploy so much edge resources to satisfy the rapidly increasing while diverse user demands. In this paper, we study a mobile edge computing system consisting of a service platform, cloudlets joining the system, and mobile users. In this study, we focus on a profit-driven perspective such that the service platform purchases computation resource from the resource-rich cloudlets and makes profit by processing tasks from user side. The design objective is to maximize the platform profit subject to budget constraint and stringent delay requirements for task processing. We formulate this problem as a mixed integer programming problem. Due to the NP-hardness of the problem, we design a logic based Benders decomposition algorithm as the offline solution. We further study the scenario where the task arrivals from user side and resource availability at the cloudlets are both stochastic and unknown in advance. We accordingly propose a Multi-Armed Bandit learning based resource purchasing and greedy task scheduling algorithm for the online scenario. The primary objective of this paper is to compare five rescheduling strategies according to their effectiveness in reducing entropic-related complexity arising from machine breakdowns in manufacturing systems. Entropic-related complexity is the expected amount of information required to describe the state of the system. Previous case studies carried out by the authors have guided computer simulations, which were carried out in Arena 5.0 in combination with MS Excel. Simulation performance is measured by: (1) entropic-related complexity measures, which quantify: (a) the complexity associated with the information content of schedules, and (b) the complexity associated with the variations between schedules; and (2) mean flow time. The results highlight two main points: (a) the importance of reducing unbalanced machine workloads by using the least utilised machine to process the jobs affected by machine breakdowns, and (b) low disruption strategies are effective at reducing entropic-related complexity; this means that applying rescheduling strategies in order to manage complexity can be beneficial up to a point, which, in low disruption strategies, is included in their threshold conditions. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. First, it extends the application of entropic-related complexity to every schedule generated through rescheduling, whereas previous work only applied it to the original schedule. Second, recommendations are proposed to schedulers for improving their rescheduling practice in the face of machine breakdowns. Those recommendations vary according to the manufacturing organisations' product type and scheduling objectives. Further work includes: (a) preparing a detailed workbook to measure entropic-related complexity at shop-floor level; and (b) extending the analysis to other types of disturbances, such as customer changes. In view of the machine failure in the manufacturing process of the plate custom furniture mixed flow workshop, in this paper, a comparative analysis of three typical machine failure scenarios was made, and three rescheduling schemes were generated. On this basis, a dynamic scheduling model considering fault recoverability was constructed with the minimum completion time as the goal, and a method combining empire competition algorithm and complete rescheduling strategy was adopted to solve the problem. The results showed that the model and method proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the impact of machine faults on production, and the scheduling efficiency of the three fault scenarios can be increased by 8%, 16.3% and 14.5% respectively, so as to improve the efficiency of shop scheduling and shorten the completion time of sheet parts. Berth allocation is a critical concern in container terminal port logistics, involving the precise determination of where and when arriving vessels should dock along a quay. With berth space limitations and a continuous surge in container handling demands, ensuring an effective berth allocation is paramount for the smooth and efficient operation of container ports. However, due to the randomness of vessel arrival times and uncertainties surrounding container ship loading capacities, berth allocation problems (BAP) often present discrete and dynamic challenges. This paper addresses these challenges by considering real-world terminal operational factors, formulating relevant assumptions, and establishing a model for dynamic berth allocation and efficient ship berthing scheduling. The primary motivation stems from the parallels observed between the BAP problem and ant foraging path selection, leading to the proposal of a novel Parallel Search Structure Enhanced Ant Colony Algorithm (PACO). A proper set of parameters of the algorithm are selected based upon sensitivity analyses on the convergence and parallelism efficiency of the algorithm. To validate our method, a real-world case-container terminal operation in Shanghai Port was studied. The experimental comparison results show that the PACO algorithm outperforms other commonly used algorithms, making it more effective and efficient for the Discrete Dynamic Berth Allocation Problem (DDBAP). A decentralized improved I-V droop control strategy for battery-supercapacitor (SC) hybrid energy storage system (HESS) is proposed in this paper. The dynamic power sharing between battery and SC is realized by replacing the constant droop coefficient in I-V droop control with virtual impedance, i.e. virtual inductance for battery side converter and virtual resistance for SC side converter. Besides, by injecting the virtual inductance in the battery side converter, negligible DC bus voltage deviation can be achieved without extra voltage compensator. Moreover, the state-of-charge (SoC) recovery is also considered to extend the service life of the HESS. Furthermore, in the proposed regulated power system, since the power allocation, DC bus stability and SoC recovery are decoupled from each other, the design of control parameters is simple. The corresponding design guideline is demonstrated in this paper. Finally, to verify the accuracy and feasibility of the theoretical analyses, hardware in the loop simulations have been conducted. Spatial crowdsourcing, a human-centric compelling paradigm in performing spatial tasks, has drawn rising attention. Task assignment is of paramount importance in spatial crowdsourcing. Existing studies often use heuristics of various kinds to solve task assignment problems. These schemes usually only apply some specific cases, once the environment changes, the efficiency of the algorithms is significantly reduced. In this paper, we first introduce a taxonomy of task assignment in spatial crowdsourcing. Next, we design an approximation algorithm and get an efficient solution for the important problem, namely, Bounded and Heterogeneous Task Assignment (BHTA), such that the sum of the rewards of workers is maximized subject to multiple constraints. We prove that the BHTA problem is NP-hard. Subsequently, we propose a constant-ratio approximation algorithm based on partition and shifting method to achieve the assignment solution. To meet with the workers’ dynamism, we further devise a greedy algorithm and provide theoretical guarantee. Experiments on synthetic and real datasets demonstrate the efficiency of our strategy over previous methods. In this paper, we spotlight vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications in 5G cellular networks. Cellular V2X (C-V2X) communications in 5G enable more advanced services with requirements of ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability. How to make full use of the limited physical-layer resources is a key determinant to guarantee the quality of service (QoS). Therefore, resource allocation plays an essential role in exchanging information between vehicles, infrastructure, and other devices. In order to intelligently and reasonably allocate resources, a self-adaptive fuzzy logic-based strategy is developed in this paper. To evaluate the network performance for this adaptive strategy, a system model for V2X communications is built for urban areas, and typical safety and non-safety services are deployed in the network. Simulation results reveal that the proposed fuzzy logic-based algorithm can substantially improve resource utilization and satisfy the requirements of V2X services, compared with prior counterparts, which cannot provide guaranteed services due to low resource utilization. Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is an emerging aspect of the 5G vertical application. Network function virtualization (NFV) is the key enabling technology of 5G and beyond 5G (B5G) networks. In NFV-enabled vehicular and 5G networks, all underlying nodes (e.g. vehicular, edge, core) can be completely virtualized and easy to be managed and allocated. Network service providers can implement each dynamically requested virtual network service (VNS), having arbitrary topology and customized resource demands, on top of the NFV-enabled networks. However, network elements (e.g. nodes and links) may come into failures accidentally. Consequently, it will lead to the performance degradation of implemented VNSs that run on top of the failed network elements. It is vital to guarantee the survivable services even though the network elements fail accidentally. Therefore, we propose the dynamic virtual resource allocation mechanism in this paper. Firstly, we introduce the business model and formulate the dynamic virtual resource allocation in NFV-enabled networks. Secondly, we detail all modules of our proposed mechanism. Especially, the initial resource allocation and re-allocation modules of achieving the survivable network services are detailed. Finally, we execute the comprehensive simulations by comparing with the typical virtual resource allocation mechanisms. Conventional computing resource trading over mobile networks generally faces many challenges, e.g., excessive decision-making latency, undesired trading failures, and underutilization of dynamic resources, owing to the constraint of wireless networks. To improve resource utilization rate under dynamic network conditions, this paper introduces a novel computing resource provisioning mechanism empowered by overbooking, that allows the amount of booked resources to exceed the resource supply. Cloud-aided mobile edge networks are considered for the proposed framework, where an edge server can purchase more resources from a cloud server to offer computing services to multiple end-users with computation-intensive tasks. Specifically, the proposed mechanism relies on designing pre-signed forward trading contracts among edge and end-users, as well as between edge and cloud in advance to future practical trading; while encouraging an appropriate overbooking rate to improve resource utilization, via analyzing historical statistics associated with uncertainties such as dynamic resource supply/demand, and varying channel qualities. The contract design is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem that aims to maximize the expected utilities of end-users, edge, and cloud, via evaluating potential risks; for which a two-phase multilateral negotiation scheme is proposed that facilitates the bargaining procedure among the three parties, to reach the final trading consensus (namely, contract terms). Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism achieves mutually beneficial utilities of three parties, while outperforming baseline methods on significant indicators such as task completion, trading failure, time efficiency, resource usage, etc., from various analytical angles. Vehicular cloud computing has been emerged as a promising solution to fulfill users’ demands on processing computation-intensive applications in modern driving environments. Such applications are commonly represented by graphs consisting of components and edges. However, encouraging vehicles to share resources poses significant challenges owing to users’ selfishness. In this paper, an auction-based graph job allocation problem is studied in vehicular cloud-assisted networks considering resource reutilization. Our goal is to map each buyer (component) to a feasible seller (virtual machine) while maximizing the buyers’ utility-of-service, which concerns the execution time and commission cost. First, we formulate the auction-based graph job allocation as a 0-1 integer programming (0-1 IP) problem. Then, a Vickrey-Clarke-Groves based payment rule is proposed which satisfies the desired economical properties, truthfulness and individual rationality. We face two challenges: 1) the abovementioned 0-1 IP problem is NP-hard; 2) one constraint associated with the IP problem poses addressing the subgraph isomorphism problem. Thus, obtaining the optimal solution is practically infeasible in large-scale networks. Motivated by which, we develop a structure-preserved matching algorithm by maximizing the utility-of-service-gain, and the corresponding payment rule which offers economical properties and low computation complexity. Aircraft assembly requires a large number of materials from hundreds of suppliers, and the uncertainty in material delivery has a negative impact on the assembly schedule. Existing researches stop short of introducing how to reschedule assembly activities in this context, so this paper addresses a reactive scheduling problem of aircraft moving assembly line with uncertain material delivery, and a bi-objective model is established. To absorb the advantage of machine learning-based method, we present a SVDD-based reactive scheduling method (SVDD-RS). Firstly, the models under different settings of disturbances in material delivery are solved, and the obtained policies are used to train the SVDD classification model in the offline training phase. In the online reactive scheduling phase, the trained SVDD classification model is used to make a preliminary decision for unstarted activities, and exact start-times are further determined by the local forward-looking algorithm. Computational experiments are carried out over practical cases generated from an aircraft assembly line to evaluate the performance of SVDD-RS. The results show that the SVDD classification model can quickly select policies with reasonable accuracy, and SVDD-RS can guarantee a quick response to the disturbance and produce a high-quality solution, compared to other existing reactive scheduling methods. Because semiconductor manufacturing is a complex and dynamic process, production scheduling in this industry typically relies on simple decision policies that use local rather than global information. Such myopic policies may lead to increased congestion in the material handling system and negatively impact throughput. In this paper, we propose a fluid-model lot dispatching policy that iteratively optimises lot selection based on current WIP distribution of the entire system. Furthermore, we propose to split the decision policies into two phases in order to include travel times information into the dispatching and targeting decisions. We provide simulation results for a prototype facility that show that our proposed policies outperform commonly used dispatching rules in throughput, machine utilisation and machine target accuracy. In this paper, we investigate the maximum flow routing strategy with dynamic link allocation under a constraint on the number of transceivers for space information networks (SINs). Specifically, the time-expanded graph (TEG) is exploited to characterize the dynamic topology of SINs. Furthermore, although there exist multiple feasible links for SINs, only a limited number of them can be actually established due to the constraint on the number of transceivers. Traditionally the established link is fixed within one time interval in the TEG. In order to fully exploit the resource of multiple feasible links, we divide each time interval in the TEG into multiple fine-grained time periods and design the maximum flow routing strategy by jointly optimizing both the fine-grained time period duration and the link allocation as well as the amount of data transmitted on each transmission link and the amount of data stored in each caching link. This problem can be formulated as a mixed-integer quadratic program (MIQP), which is difficult to solve. To overcome this difficulty, we transform the MIQP into an equivalent mixed-integer linear program (MILP), which can be effectively solved by existing methods. Network slicing has emerged as a key concept in 5G systems, allowing Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to build isolated logical networks (slices) on top of shared infrastructure networks managed by Infrastructure Providers (InP). Network slicing requires the assignment of infrastructure network resources to virtual network components at slice activation time and the adjustment of resources for slices under operation. Performing these operations just-in-time, on a best-effort basis, comes with no guarantee on the availability of enough infrastructure resources to meet slice requirements. This paper proposes a prioritized admission control mechanism for concurrent slices based on an infrastructure resource reservation approach. The reservation accounts for the dynamic nature of slice requests while being robust to uncertainties in slice resource demands. Adopting the perspective of an InP, reservation schemes are proposed that maximize the number of slices for which infrastructure resources can be granted while minimizing the costs charged to the MNOs. This requires the solution of a max-min optimization problem with a non-linear cost function and non-linear constraints induced by the robustness to uncertainties of demands and the limitation of the impact of reservation on background services. The cost and the constraints are linearized and several reduced-complexity strategies are proposed to solve the slice admission control and resource reservation problem. Simulations show that the proportion of admitted slices of different priority levels can be adjusted by a differentiated selection of the delay between the reception and the processing instants of a slice resource request. In this paper, we study a Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) based framework for an online end-user service provisioning in a Network Function Virtualization (NFV)-enabled network. We formulate an optimization problem aiming to minimize the cost of network resource utilization. The main challenge is provisioning the online service requests by fulfilling their Quality of Service (QoS) under limited resource availability. Moreover, fulfilling the stochastic service requests in a large network is another challenge that is evaluated in this paper. To solve the formulated optimization problem in an efficient and intelligent manner, we propose a Deep Q-Network for Adaptive Resource allocation (DQN-AR) in NFV-enabled network for function placement and dynamic routing which considers the available network resources as DQN states. Moreover, the service’s characteristics, including the service life time and number of the arrival requests, are modeled by the Uniform and Exponential distribution, respectively. In addition, we evaluate the computational complexity of the proposed method. Numerical results carried out for different ranges of parameters reveal the effectiveness of our framework. In specific, the obtained results show that the average number of admitted requests of the network increases by 7 up to 14% and the network utilization cost decreases by 5 and 20%. The development of future wireless networks focuses on providing services with strict, dynamic, and diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this sense, the network slicing paradigm arises as a critical piece on the efficient allocation and management of network resources, allowing for dividing the network into several logical networks with specific functionalities and performance. This paper aims at finding the best combination of access network and network slices over a heterogeneous environment to fulfill users’ requests and optimize network resources usage. We propose the Dynamic radio Access selection and Slice Allocation (DASA) algorithm, flexibly adapted to network conditions, user priorities, and mobility behavior. DASA is based on a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to face the complex problem of network selection. Moreover, it uses a cooperative game theory approach to handle load balancing during overload situations. This work presents an integral solution that combines software-defined network (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) technologies to improve network performance and user satisfaction. Emerging virtual network functions (VNFs) bring new opportunities to network services on the edge within customers’ premises. Network services are realized by chained up VNFs, which are called service function chains (SFCs). These services are deployed on commercial edge servers for higher flexibility and scalability. Despite such promises, it is still unclear how to provide highly available and cost-effective SFCs under edge resource limitations and time-varying VNF failures. In this paper, we propose a novel Reliability-aware Adaptive Deployment scheme named RAD to efficiently place and back up SFCs over both the edge and the cloud. Specifically, RAD first deploys SFCs to fully utilize edge resources. It then uses both static backups and dynamic ones created on the fly to guarantee the availability under the resource limitation of edge networks. RAD does not assume failure rates of VNFs but instead strives to find the sweet spot between the desired availability of SFCs and the backup cost. Theoretical performance bounds, extensive simulations, and small-scale experiments highlight that RAD provides significantly higher availability with lower backup costs compared with existing baselines. The efficiency of a large-scale edge computing system primarily depends on three aspects: i) edge server provision, ii) task migration, and iii) computing resource configuration. In this paper, we study the dynamic resource configuration for hybrid edge server provision under two decentralized task migration schemes. We formulate the dynamic resource configuration as an online cost minimization problem, aiming to jointly minimize performance degradation and operation expenditure. Due to the stochastic nature, it is an online learning problem with partial feedback. To address it, we derive a deterministic mean field model to approximate the stochastic edge computing system. We show that the mean field model provides the increasingly accurate full feedback as the system scales. We then propose a learning policy based on the mean field model, and show that our proposed policy performs asymptotically as well as the offline optimal configuration. We provide two ways of setting the policy parameters, which achieve a constant competitive ratio (under certain mild conditions) and a sub-linear regret, respectively. Numerical results show that the mean field model significantly improves the convergence speed. The flow of data across nodes has become the dominant feature of data sharing in distributed environments with increasingly blurred boundaries, where it is crucial to maintain data access dynamic, trusted, and efficient. However, traditional centralized access control models are not only difficult to apply in distributed environments but also ignore trusted verification of authorized entities. What’s worse, existing access control models rarely consider themselves security, lack independence, at a high risk of being bypassed or tampered with. Thus, we propose in this paper a distributed, dynamic, and trusted access control model, DDTAC-BSS, where the standard Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) architecture is modified and extended. To reduce the attack surface, we separate policy enforcement point (PEP) from other core components, they are located in the node system and access control system, respectively. Then, the access control entry point (ACEP) is added as the only interface for the node system to interact with the access control system. Subsequently, the model introduces the entity trusted assessment mechanism to improve the trustworthiness of access control services. Driven by the dynamic attributes, our model can achieve dynamic trusted authorization and fine-grained access control. Moreover, we implement a lightweight, independent, and distributed security subsystem to achieve unified management of policies and decision-making autonomy by message-driven. By considering the independence of the security subsystem, a trusted operating environment is built based on Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to ensure the security of the access control mechanism itself. The security of our model is proved rigorously based on the non-interference theory. In this paper, we study Space-Air-Ground integrated Vehicular Network (SAGVN), and propose an online control framework to dynamically slice the SAG spectrum resource for isolated vehicular services provisioning. In particular, at a given time slot, the system makes online decisions on the request admission and scheduling, UAV dispatching, and resource slicing for different services. To characterize the impact of those parameters, we construct a time-averaged queue stability criteria by taking queue backlogs of all services into consideration, and formulate a system revenue function which incorporates the time-averaged system throughput and UAV dispatching cost. The objective is to maximize the system revenue while stabilizing the time-averaged queue, which falls into the scope of Lyapunov optimization theory. By bounding the drift-plus-penalty, the original problem can be decoupled into four independent subproblems, each of which is readily solved. The merits of our control framework are three-fold: 1) the system is able to admit and process as many requests as possible (i.e., maximizing the time-averaged throughput); 2) the time-averaged UAV dispatching cost is minimized; and 3) service queues are stabilized in the long-term. Extensive simulations are carried out, and the results demonstrate that the control framework can effectively achieve the system revenue maximization and queueing stabilization. Moreover, it can balance the trade-off among system throughput, UAV dispatching cost, and queueing states via parameter tuning. Graphics workloads make highly dynamic use of resources such as execution units (EUs), and thus can benefit from fast, fine-grain dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) and retentive sleep. This paper presents a 14-nm graphics processing unit (GPU) prototype with modified EUs which include an integrated voltage regulator (IVR). The IVR enables energy-efficient EU turbo operation, data retention, and $V_{\text {MIN}}$ optimization per EU. This paper addresses the problem of emergency surgery insertion into a given elective surgery schedule of an operating theater (OT) composed of multiple operating rooms (ORs). Emergency surgeries with different emergency levels characterized by waiting time targets (WTTs) arrive according to a nonhomogeneous Poisson process and can be inserted into any OR. An event-based stochastic programming model is proposed to minimize the total cost incurred by exceeding WTTs of emergency surgeries, elective surgery delay, and surgery team overtime. A perfect information-based lower bound is proposed and the properties of the optimal policies are proved. Simple heuristic policies and a stochastic optimization (SO) approach derived from the simple policies by policy improvement are proposed. Numerical experiments show that the SO significantly outperforms the others and efficient emergency insertion significantly improves the system performance. A principal component analysis is performed to show how near-optimal policies differ from simple heuristic policies. Note to Practitioners—This paper is motivated by enhancing the efficiency of OTs by sharing the surgery capacity between the elective and emergency surgeries. More specifically, we consider the problem of inserting nonelective surgeries of different emergency levels in the execution of a given elective surgery schedule. An SO approach is proposed to dynamically prioritize emergency and elective surgeries in order to best balance meeting emergency surgery requirement, perturbation of elective schedule, and surgery team overtime. Numerical experiments based on the data collected from Saint-Joseph Hospital in Paris show the significant benefit of efficient emergency insertion over the current hospital practice. Maritime transportation is an important branch of intelligent transportation system (ITS). It is widely recognized that modern ITS technologies and advanced management methods, such as automated yard crane (YC) planning and scheduling, can significantly improve container terminal performance, and also impact the global performance of maritime transportation. In this paper, we investigate two YC scheduling with storage and retrieval tasks in a container block. The main contributions of this paper are: 1) container reshuffling operations and inter-crane interference constraint are both considered and 2) the dynamic processing times for retrieval containers are taken into consideration. These typical YC operation characteristics complicate the YC scheduling, and cause late delivery and economic loss. In this study, we focus on minimizing the maximum tardiness of container task and establishing an integer linear programming model. Regarding the NP-hardness nature of the problem, we develop a heuristic named dividing, sequencing, and comparing (DSC) and a genetic algorithm (GA) based on the characteristics of the problem. The computational results show the efficient performance of the developed algorithms, compared with the exact solutions via Cplex software for small size instances. In order to support very small cycle times, Profinet isochronous real-time (IRT) was improved by implementing the dynamic frame packing (DFP) mechanism. It turned out that DFP is relatively efficient, but it still has two crucial drawbacks. The complex scheduling has to be recalculated every time the network structure is modified. Furthermore, DFP only operates efficiently in line topology. This study presents a proposal for further improvements of Profinet IRT by implementing an automatic packing mechanism (APM). The main advantage of APM lies in the fact that a dedicated scheduling algorithm is not required. Furthermore, APM achieves approximately the same performance as DFP in line topology, but it has a distinctive advance in star or tree topologies. This paper also presents experimental validation results that prove the functionality of the approach. Effective dynamic scheduling of twin Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) is essential for improving the efficiency of automated storage yards. While Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) has shown promise in a variety of scheduling problems, the dynamic twin ASCs scheduling problem is challenging owing to its unique attributes, including the dynamic arrival of containers, sequence-dependent setup and potential ASC interference. A novel DRL method is proposed in this paper to minimize the ASC run time and traffic congestion in the yard. Considering the information interference from ineligible containers, dynamic masked self-attention (DMA) is designed to capture the location-related relationship between containers. Additionally, we propose local information complementary attention (LICA) to supplement congestion-related information for decision making. The embeddings grasped by the LICA-DMA neural architecture can effectively represent the system state. Extensive experiments show that the agent can learn high-quality scheduling policies. Compared with rule-based heuristics, the learned policies have significantly better performance with reasonable time costs. With the development of workshop automation, the complexity of RGV (Rail Guided Vehicle) dynamic scheduling schemes using virtual simulation technology is increasing. For the widely valued intelligent machining systems, machine learning based optimization algorithms can effectively respond to the increasingly complex RGV dynamic intelligent scheduling. In the whole model construction, how to complete the modular design of the intelligent processing system and optimize the solution is the key problem that needs to be solved urgently at present. This paper studied the use of particle swarm optimization to design the RGV dynamic scheduling model, aiming to improve the material processing production efficiency of RGV dynamic scheduling and reduce the system failure rate. Through problem modeling, solution and simulation experiment analysis, this paper applied particle swarm optimization based on machine learning, combined with RGV structure modular design and task parameter test set samples. According to the data results, the following conclusions can be drawn from the discussion. Under the background of intelligent logistics system, the RGV dynamic scheduling model using particle swarm optimization had higher material processing production efficiency than the traditional scheduling method in all job test samples, and the average increase was 13.25%. Meanwhile, in terms of system failures, optimization algorithms were better than traditional scheduling methods, with an average reduction of 4.6%. To adapt to the "fine" and "extensive" management characteristics of railway signal equipment operation and maintenance, achieving real-time and interactive monitoring of signal equipment operation status, and developing an integrated approach to equipment operation and maintenance, this paper takes a comprehensive management perspective. To create a lightweight BIM model, the Garland folding algorithm is utilized to simplify the IFC file format. Building on this approach, the data are divided based on building component division standards to obtain separate files containing geometric information and semantic attributes. The geometric information files are converted to a 3D Tiles format, combining BIM semantic attributes with semantic attribute files through an intermediate format. Dynamic data management is achieved by setting the octree space index structure in combination with a view-frustum culling algorithm. Then, the 3D Tiles target file is imported into the Cesium platform, and Node.js is used to achieve three-dimensional visualization of railway signal operation and maintenance. The proposed method is verified using an inbound signal as an example to assess its feasibility. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed method to achieve stable integration between BIM equipment full lifecycle maintenance and GIS geographical space display. With the increased awareness of the market competition and protection of the environment, many studies have examined sustainable manufacturing, which combines lean production and sustainable performance, but there still exist barriers between the theories and the practices. This paper proposes a dynamic scheduling unit (DSU) with the multi-agent system (MAS) to build and formulate a kind of sustainable hybrid flow shop in a ubiquitous environment. The processing time, energy consumption and carbon emission are considered the sustainability indicators; and the machine failure, job inserting and job reworking are considered the disruption events. Then, a GA-based dynamic scheduling optimisation with variable priorities is proposed, including a weighted sum of indicators-genetic algorithm (WSI-GA) and an event-driven priority weights local search (EPW-LS) to dynamically generate the prescheduling and rescheduling solutions of the sustainable hybrid flow shop. Lastly, the proposed theories are applied to a computational case of part machining via the discrete event simulation method to demonstrate their validity and feasibility. The results show that the WSI-GA for prescheduling is superior to the referenced traditional priority-based genetic algorithms in the four different production modes and that EPW-LS for rescheduling can effectively improve the solutions of the preschedulings once disruption events occur. The scheduling policy installed on switches of datacenters plays a significant role on congestion control. Shortest-Remaining-Processing-Time (SRPT) achieves the near-optimal average message completion time (MCT) in various scenarios, but is difficult to deploy as viewed by the industry. The reasons are two-fold: 1) many commodity switches only provide FIFO queues, and 2) the information of remaining message size is not available. Recently, the idea of emulating SRPT using only a few FIFO queues and the original message size has been coined as the approximate and deployable SRPT (ADS) design. In this paper, we provide the first theoretical study on the optimal ADS design. Specifically, we first characterize a wide range of feasible ADS scheduling policies via a unified framework, and then derive the steady-state MCT, slowdown, and impoliteness in the M/G/1 setting. Hence we formulate the optimal ADS design as a non-linear combinatorial optimization problem, which aims to minimize the average MCT given the available FIFO queues. We also take into account the proportional fairness and temporal fairness constraints based on the maximal slowdown and impoliteness, respectively. The optimal ADS design problem is NP-hard in general, and does not exhibit monotonicity or sub-modularity. We leverage its decomposable structure and devise an efficient algorithm to solve the optimal ADS policy. We carry out extensive flow-level simulations and packet-level experiments to evaluate the proposed optimal ADS design. In network virtualization environments, with random arrival and departure of virtual network requests, there exist some resources (i.e., link resources and node resources) isolated from others in substrate networks. This phenomenon is referred to as resource fragmentation. In this paper, we attempt to improve the resource utilization efficiency by avoiding resource fragmentation in substrate networks. First and most importantly, we define a new metric called resource fragmentation degree (RFD) to quantitatively measure the status of resource fragmentation at substrate nodes and links. The basic idea of RFD is that the resource availability of a node (or a link) is determined by the residual link and node resources around the node (or the link). Based on the definition of RFD, we formulate the virtual network embedding (VNE) problem as a mixed integer programming problem with consideration of the cost of resource fragmentation. Then, an online VNE algorithm with consideration of RFD (VNE-RFD) is proposed to solve the problem, which is performed according to the current resource status of substrate networks and virtual network requests. To reduce accumulated fragmented resources produced by dynamic arrival and departure of virtual network requests, a heuristic virtual network reconfiguration algorithm based on RFD (VNR-RFD) is proposed. Nowadays, manufacturing control systems can respond more effectively to exigent market requirements and real-time demands. Indeed, they take advantage of changing their structural and behavioural arrangements to tailor the control solution from a diverse set of feasible configurations. However, the challenge of this approach is to determine efficient mechanisms that dynamically optimise the configuration between different architectures. This paper presents a dynamic hybrid control architecture that integrates a switching mechanism to control changes at both structural and behavioural level. The switching mechanism is based on a genetic algorithm and strives to find the most suitable operating mode of the architecture with regard to optimality and reactivity. Scientific workflow scheduling is one of the most challenging problems in cloud computing because of the large-scale computing tasks and massive data volumes involved. A cloud system is a distributed system that follows the on-demand resource provisioning and pay-per-use billing model. Therefore, practical scheduling approaches are essential for good workflow performance and low overheads. This paper proposes a novel workflow allocation approach, the Geo-aware Multiagent Task Allocation Approach (GMTA), which aims to optimize large-scale scientific workflow execution in container-based clouds. GMTA is an agent-based workflow allocation method that includes a market-like agent negotiation mechanism and a dynamic workflow restructuring strategy. Device scaling, increasing number of components in a single chip, varying environmental issues, and aging effects have brought severe reliability challenges that impose tight constraints on the operation of a system. To cope with these challenges, this paper proposes a reliability-aware scheduling framework that combines static and dynamic analyses to improve the overall system resiliency to different kinds of faults (i.e., intermittent, transient, and permanent). The static analysis technique employs genetic algorithms to optimize the overall system reliability by considering reliability level (RL) as an intermediate scheduling dimension and creating a task-to-RL mapping. This enables the RL-to-core mapping to be efficiently adapted at runtime according to fault rate variations, while the task-to-RL mapping can still be reused. The dynamic analysis tracks faults appearing in each core and measures the time correlation of those faults to update the RL-to-core mapping. The proposed reliability-aware framework is implemented in a state-of-the-art runtime system, Delaware Adaptive Run-Time System, so as to quantitatively show the advantages of using the overall framework in existing multicore platforms. Microgrids incorporate an increasing number of distributed energy resources (DERs), which induce a higher variability and faster dispatch capabilities in power systems. This paper proposes a two-layer real-time scheduling model for microgrids, based on approximate future cost function (AFCF), where the future cost represents the opportunity cost for the microgrid operation in subsequent periods. At the upper layer, the look-ahead rolling scheduling is adopted to optimize microgrid operations, in which the future cost function (FCF) in deterministic and stochastic scenarios is approximated by a piecewise linear function. At the lower layer, a real-time parameter updating strategy based on real-time data is proposed. In this case, the real-time scheduling readjusts the look-ahead schedule using the immediate cost in the current period and the future cost calculated by the updated AFCF. The proposed two-layer real-time scheduling model uses an offline optimization, in which most of the computation tasks are completed at the upper layer, and applies a real-time optimization, in which the time-consuming problem is avoided at the lower layer. The effectiveness of the proposed two-layer real-time scheduling model of microgrids is validated by using a grid-connected microgrid system. One of the pillars of the 5G architecture is network slicing, in which hardware, radio, and power resources are virtualized as a logical network taking into account the requirements of diverse applications. While ensuring performance isolation among different slices, resource allocation in 5G Radio Access Networks (RANs) is associated with different challenges due to network dynamics and the different applications’ requirements. In this paper, we have considered the allocation of power and radio resources to rate-based as well as resource-based users. We propose an energy-efficient deep reinforcement learning-assisted resource allocation (EE-DRL-RA) method for RAN slicing in 5G networks. The main idea of the proposed method is to exploit a collaborative learning framework that includes deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and deep learning (DL) to decide on resource allocation in the RAN. Specifically, we use DL for decision-making on resource allocation on a large time-scale and DRL for decision-making on resource allocation on a small time-scale. The asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C) and the stacked and bidirectional long-short-term-memory (SBiLSTM) network are used as DRL and supervised DL methods, respectively. Furthermore, we determine the optimal power and resource blocks (RBs) for rate-based users by formulating the energy-efficient power allocation (EE-PA) problem as a non-convex optimization problem and solve it by an efficient iterative algorithm. Our proposed approach is unique in that it simultaneously allocates power and RBs while ensuring slice isolation with low computational and time complexity. Simulation results show that EE-DRL-RA yields better performance compared to a state-of-the-art published method in terms of convergence speed, computational complexity, energy efficiency, and the number of accepted users as well as the degree of inter-slice isolation. This paper investigates task-oriented communication for edge inference, where a low-end edge device transmits the extracted feature vector of a local data sample to a powerful edge server for processing. It is critical to encode the data into an informative and compact representation for low-latency inference given the limited bandwidth. We propose a learning-based communication scheme that jointly optimizes feature extraction, source coding, and channel coding in a task-oriented manner, i.e., targeting the downstream inference task rather than data reconstruction. Specifically, we leverage an information bottleneck (IB) framework to formalize a rate-distortion tradeoff between the informativeness of the encoded feature and the inference performance. As the IB optimization is computationally prohibitive for the high-dimensional data, we adopt a variational approximation, namely the variational information bottleneck (VIB), to build a tractable upper bound. To reduce the communication overhead, we leverage a sparsity-inducing distribution as the variational prior for the VIB framework to sparsify the encoded feature vector. Furthermore, considering dynamic channel conditions in practical communication systems, we propose a variable-length feature encoding scheme based on dynamic neural networks to adaptively adjust the activated dimensions of the encoded feature to different channel conditions. Extensive experiments evidence that the proposed task-oriented communication system achieves a better rate-distortion tradeoff than baseline methods and significantly reduces the feature transmission latency in dynamic channel conditions. Optimal dispatch in power systems is a complex mathematical model of nonlinear programming with many physical constraints, which is difficult to solve by conventional methods. Thus, intelligent algorithms are now viable options for resolving the nonlinear scheduling issues of microgrids. In this paper, we propose a double-layer optimization strategy based on the multi-point improved gray wolf algorithm (MPIGWO). The inner layer optimizes load profiles with time-of-use tariffs. The outer one achieves a fast search for the optimal solution and prevents getting stuck in a local optimum, which improves the gray wolf algorithm significantly. First, the Bernoulli map is used to randomly generate the initial population. Second, the efficiency of optimization can be improved by modifying the attenuation factor based on the Sin function and then updating the exact weight factor of the position to reasonably select the best position. Finally, an improved dimensional learning-based hunting (IDLH) search strategy is employed to determine the optimal solution. The numerical case study shows that the proposed double-layer optimization strategy can implement dynamic scheduling for distributed power sources while lowering the costs of economic operation and environmental protection significantly. Many real-world applications of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) are arising today, which range from physical resource planning to virtual resource management in the cloud computing domain. A common trait of these applications is usually the large scale size of problem instances, which require fast algorithms to generate solutions of acceptable quality. The basis for many VRP approaches is a heuristic which builds a candidate solution that may subsequently be improved by a local search procedure. Since there are many variants of the basic VRP model, specialised algorithms must be devised that take into account specific constraints and user-defined objective measures. Another factor is that the scheduling process may be carried out in dynamic conditions, where future information may be uncertain or unavailable or may be subject to change. When all of this is considered, there is a need for customised heuristics, devised for a specific problem variant, that could be used in highly dynamic environments. In this paper, we use genetic programming (GP) to evolve a suitable dispatching rule to build solutions for different objectives and classes of VRP problems, applicable in both dynamic and stochastic conditions. In yard-crane scheduling problems, as loading operations take priority over unloading, the delivery sequence of unloading from the quaysides to the yard is uncertain. The delivery sequence changes may make crane scheduling more difficult. As a result, the crane operations schedules developed statically become suboptimal or even infeasible. In this paper, we propose a dynamic scheduling problem considering uncertain delivery sequences. A mixed-integer linear program is developed to assign tasks to cranes and minimize the makespan of crane operations. We propose an iterative solution framework in which the schedules are re-optimized whenever the delivery sequence change is revealed. A genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the problem, and a greedy algorithm is designed to re-optimize and update the solution. To make the updated solution take effect as soon as possible, regarding batch-based task assignment, the tasks in the scheduling period are divided into several batches. In this case, the instant requests arising from the delivery sequence change are added to corresponding batch tasks and re-optimized together with the tasks of this batch. In addition, a relaxation model is formulated to derive a lower bound for demonstrating the performance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results show that the average gap between the algorithm and the lower bound does not exceed 5%. The greedy insertion algorithm can re-optimize the instant requests in time. Equipment failure is a common problem in mining operations, resulting in significant delays and reductions in production efficiency. To address this problem, this paper proposes a dynamic scheduling model for underground metal mines under equipment failure conditions. The model aims to minimize the impact of equipment failures on production operations while avoiding extensive equipment changes. A case study of the southeastern mining area of the Chambishi Copper Mine is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. The initial plan was generated using the multi-equipment task assignment model for the horizontal stripe pre-cut mining method. After equipment breakdown, the proposed model was used to reschedule the initial plan. Then, a comparative analysis was carried out. The results show that the proposed model effectively reduces the impact of equipment failures on production operations and improves overall mining execution at a low management cost. Most existing optimization objectives considered in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) power allocation schemes are non-delay-sensitive metrics. In order to apply NOMA to various Internet of Things scenarios, the delay must be considered. The effective capacity of users, which characterizes the capacity under specific expiration probabilities, can potentially be a performance metric of statistical delay quality of service (QoS). In this paper, we propose two novel dynamic power allocation schemes with statistical delay QoS guarantee in the uplink NOMA system with paired users. One of the schemes maximizes the sum effective capacity (SEC) of the strong and weak users, which is a non-convex nonlinear optimization problem and is solved by Lagrangian dual decomposition and successive convex approximation (SCA). The other one maximizes the effective energy efficiency (EEE) of uplink NOMA, which is a fractional optimization problem and is solved by integrating the Dinkelbach method, SCA, and Lagrangian dual decomposition. Numerical results show that the SEC and EEE can be significantly improved by the proposed schemes, compared to the existing NOMA and orthogonal multiple access power allocation schemes. With the development of cloud computing, an increasing number of applications in different fields have been deployed to the cloud. In this process, the real-time scheduling of multiple workflows composed of tasks from these different applications must consider various influencing factors that strongly affect scheduling performance. This paper proposes a real-time multiple-workflow scheduling (RMWS) scheme to schedule workflows dynamically with minimum cost under different deadline constraints. Due to the uncertainty of workflow arrival time and specification, RMWS dynamically allocates tasks and divides the scheduling process into three stages. First, when a new workflow arrives, the latest start time and the latest finish time of each task are calculated according to the deadline, and the subdeadline of each task is obtained by probabilistic upward ranking. Then, each ready task is allocated according to its subdeadline and the increased cost of the virtual machine (VM). Meanwhile, only one waiting task can be assigned to each VM to reduce delay fluctuations. Finally, when the task is completed on the assigned VM, all the parameters of the relevant tasks are updated before allocating them to appropriate VMs. The experimental results based on four real-world workflow traces show that the proposed algorithm is superior to two state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of total rental cost, resource utilization, success rate and deadline deviation under different conditions. This paper aims to crack the individual EV charging scheduling problem considering the dynamic user behaviors and the electricity price. The uncertainty of the EV charging demand is described by several factors, including the driver’s experience, the charging preference and the charging locations for realistic scenarios. An aggregate anxiety concept is introduced to characterize both the driver’s anxiety on the EV’s range and uncertain events. A mathematical model is also provided to describe the anxiety quantitatively. The problem is formulated as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) with an unknown state transition function. The objective is to find the optimal sequential charging decisions that can balance the charging cost and driver’s anxiety. A model-free deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based approach is developed to learn the optimal charging control strategy by interacting with the dynamic environment. The continuous soft actor-critic (SAC) framework is applied to design the learning method, which contains a supervised learning (SL) stage and a reinforcement learning (RL) stage. A building energy management system (BEMS), which forms an integral part of a smart grid, enables building operators to monitor, manage, and control the energy utilized in their buildings, thus reducing the demand and consumption of energy.
