Abstract

The article discusses the prohibition laws towards distillers and the distilling of alcohol in the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War from 1861 through 1865, including the moral and patriotic aspects and the personal self-sacrifice involved. The impact that the distilling had on allegedly wasting grain and in causing the drunkenness of Confederate soldiers is discussed.
