In this study, the relationship between the BIST Technology Index (XUTEK), which is composed of technology enterprises traded in Borsa Istanbul (BIST), and the export-import coverage ratio of the country has been examined. In this context, correlation and regression analysis were performed by using Turkish Statistical Institute data on foreign trade in March 2016-February 2018 and XUTEX data from Borsa Istanbul. The findings show that there is a significant negative correlation between the BIST Technology Index and the export-import coverage ratio. In addition to this, it was seen that there was a positive and meaningful relationship between XUTEK and import figures excluding seasonal and calendar effects. In this respect, imports increased in the period in which Turkey has increased the BIST Technology Index, which also decreased the export-import coverage ratio. Within the framework of the findings, it has been concluded that the technology in the Turkish economy can not yet play a role in reducing the foreign trade deficit.
