Abstract: A well-type HPGe detector model with the existence of a particular dead area in the HPGe crystal was developed for use in Monte Carlo simulation codes to better model gamma-ray efficiency characteristics. Dissimilarities of counting efficiencies between simulation and calibration were successfully minimized for the case of point and volume sources. Simulations using the resulting model are applicable to the activity measurement of samples both in the hole and on top of the endcap of the well-type HPGe detector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Neutron activation analysis using Au foil is a common and important method for measurement of thermal neutron fluence. To determine the activity of Au foil experimentally, Kawada et al. proposed 2πβ+2πβ-γ coincidence counting. This method is based on 4πβ-γ coincidence counting but a 4πβ detector is divided into two 2πβ detectors those are independently operated in the method. In this research the correction factors in 2πβ+2πβ-γ coincidence counting were obtained by measurement and simulation. The activities obtained by these correction factors were in good agreement.
