Objectives: Beginning in February 2022, the United States faced an infant formula shortage that severely impacted access and affordability. Little is known about how this shortage impacted infant feeding intentions among expectant mothers. Our study sought to determine the impact of the formula shortage on prenatal feeding intentions and to understand expectant mothers' feelings and perceived stress related to the shortage. Methods: This cross-sectional, exploratory, observational study of pregnant women (n = 57) residing in New York City utilized a self-administered online survey in May–July 2022. Results: The results indicate that ten (17.5%) respondents changed their feeding intentions during the infant formula shortage for months 0–3 or 3–6 of infancy to include more breastfeeding than originally intended. These mothers also reported significantly higher stress levels related to the shortage than their non-changing peers. Conclusions for practice: Our results suggest that the formula shortage influenced feeding intentions among a subset of surveyed expectant mothers. The stress associated with the shortage influenced prenatal feeding intentions to include more breastfeeding than intended prior to the shortage. Prenatal healthcare providers should consider the availability of infant formula as one of myriad factors that influence infant feeding intentions, and that the stress associated with whether infant formula is readily available may influence these intentions as well. Significance: Numerous factors, including social, cultural, and economic influences, can shape prenatal infant feeding intentions. Our results suggest that availability of infant formula may be an additional element in this decision-making process. Our study found that the 2022 infant formula shortage influenced expectant mothers to include more breastfeeding in their feeding plans than they had originally intended as a result of the shortage. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated stay-at-home orders on the breastfeeding experiences of U.S. people a identify facilitators and barriers to breastfeeding during this period, and to assess the effects of maternal stress and misinformation on breastfeeding practices. Methods: U.S. women with infants were selected through purposive and convenience sampling. An online survey, distributed during summer 2020, measured changes in infant feeding practices, maternal stress levels, use of lactation support resources, and the influence of misinformation on feeding decisions. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative responses underwent thematic analysis. Results: Our sample (n = 1,861) revealed that 34% of U.S. women realized the pandemic affected their feeding practices, 544 women provided qualitative data. Major themes from qualitative analysis included ease of breastfeeding at home, bonding, increased breastfeeding duration, and challenges like limited access to lactation support. Logistic regressions highlighted demographic influences on breastfeeding practices, with no significant effects found related to the child's age or women's income on changes in feeding practices. Conclusions for Practice: The COVID-19 pandemic substantially impacted breastfeeding experiences of U.S. women, yielding insights for future policy and healthcare practices. The findings underscore the potential benefits of telehealth lactation support services and flexible remote work environments for breastfeeding people. Clear and scientifically-grounded communication regarding breastfeeding, mental health support, and policy development, are essential to promote equitable and flexible work and maternity leave options for breastfeeding people especially during global health crises. Significance: This study provides new insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic's stay-at-home orders uniquely impacted breastfeeding practices among a large and diverse sample of U.S. women across various regions, income levels, and racial/ethnic backgrounds. By capturing a wide range of experiences, we address a critical gap in understanding the effects of sudden societal changes on breastfeeding across different demographics. Our findings highlight both facilitators—such as increased time at home leading to easier breastfeeding, stronger mother-infant bonding, and extended breastfeeding duration—and barriers—including limited access to lactation support and heightened maternal stress. The diversity of our sample enhances the applicability of our results to inform maternal and child health policies and practices. We underscore the potential benefits of telehealth lactation services and flexible remote work policies in enhancing breastfeeding outcomes and reducing health inequities, emphasizing the need for supportive measures that promote breastfeeding, especially during global health crises. • Minimum dietary diversity is associated with a lower risk of childhood underweight. • Consuming dairy, eggs, fruits, and vegetables lowers the risk of underweight. • Children exclusively fed mother's breast milk are more likely to be malnourished. A lack of consumption of a diversified diet is associated with poor physical and cognitive development in children. Evidence on the relationship between minimum dietary diversity (MDD) and childhood malnutrition remains inconclusive in India. We hypothesized that children aged 6 to 23 months on a diversified diet (five out of eight defined foods and beverages) are less likely to be malnourished (stunting, wasting, and underweight) compared to their counterparts who are not on a diversified diet. This cross-sectional study was based on the 2019-2021 National Family Health Survey of India, comprising a weighted sample of 57,714 children aged 6 to 23 months. Multilevel logistic regression was conducted for data analysis. The results showed a significant protective effect of dietary diversity on underweight (odds ratios [OR] = 0.91; 95% confidence intervals [CI]: 0.86-0.96). In addition, children who did not consume eggs (OR = 1.09; 95% CI; 1.03-1.15), dairy products (OR = 1.22; 95% CI: 1.17-1.27), or fruits and vegetables (OR = 1.11; 95% CI: 1.06-1.17) were more likely to be underweight than children who did. Children who did not consume dairy products, fruits, and vegetables were also more likely to be stunted and wasted. However, we did not find significant associations of MDD with wasting and stunting. Nutritional interventions promoting daily consumption of dairy products, eggs, fruit, and vegetables are recommended to address the growing problem of childhood malnutrition in India. Regions with higher rates of malnutrition and those lacking MDD, such as Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, should be prioritized. Background: Current research separately analyzed the connection between postpartum depression, fatigue, sleep and infant development. However, depression, fatigue and sleep quality often coexisted as adverse symptoms in postpartum women and influenced infant development together. This study explored the maternal postpartum symptoms on infant growth. Methods: Our study included 224 pairs of singleton full‐term mothers and their infants who underwent routine pediatric outpatient clinics. Latent profile analysis was applied to identify the latent classes based on mothers' postpartum depression, fatigue and sleep profile characteristics. We evaluated the maternal adverse symptoms and infant development using multivariable logistic regressions. Results: Totally, 224 pairs of eligible mothers (28.85 ± 4.43 years) and infants (30.93 ± 3.26 days) participated in this study. Latent profile analysis identified 3 latent groups: mild (58.04%), moderate (34.37%), and severe (7.59%) postpartum adverse symptoms. Postpartum adverse symptoms were associated with delayed development in the baby's motor level (χ2 = 6.572, p =.037) and weight‐for‐length (χ2 = 9.652, p =.008). After controlling for mother and infant related factors, postpartum adverse symptoms remained a risk factor for infant motor level (odds ratio [OR]: 4.35; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.25–15.08) and weight‐for‐length (OR: 5.53; 95% CI: 1.55–19.74). Conclusions: Maternal postpartum depression, fatigue and sleep quality are associated with infant development. Context Combining or supplementing breastfeeding with formula feeding, also called mixed milk feeding (MMF), is a common infant feeding practice. However, there is no well-established MMF evidence-base for informing and guiding parents. A better understanding of the reasons why mothers practice MMF may facilitate identification of efficient strategies for supporting exclusive breastfeeding, and/or opportunities to prolong breastfeeding, at least partially. Objective An updated systematic literature review was undertaken with the primary aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the reasons why mothers choose MMF. Data Sources Six databases were searched for relevant articles published in English from January 2012 to January 2022. Data Extraction Two reviewers independently performed the screenings and data extraction, and any differences were resolved by a third reviewer. Data from 138 articles were included, 90 of which contained data on MMF reasons/drivers, and 60 contained data on infant age and/or maternal demographic factors associated with MMF. Data Analysis A total of 13 different unique MMF drivers/reasons were identified and categorized according to whether the drivers/reasons related to perceived choice, necessity, or pressure. Risk of bias was evaluated using the Quality Assessment Tool of Diverse Studies and the JBI Systematic Reviews tool. Several different terms were used to describe and classify MMF across the studies. The most commonly reported reasons for MMF were related to a perception of necessity (39% of drivers, eg, concerns about infant's hunger/perceived breast milk insufficiency or breastfeeding difficulties), followed by drivers associated with perceived choice (34%; eg, having more flexibility) and perceived pressure (25%; eg, returning to work or healthcare professionals' advice). This was particularly true for infants aged 3 months or younger. Conclusion The key global drivers for MMF and their distribution across infant age and regions were identified and described, providing opportunities for the provision of optimal breastfeeding support. Objective: We aimed to determine the demographic data, mortality, and morbidity of early- and late-neonatal sepsis cases, the etiologic agents in these cases, and the antibiotic susceptibility of these agents. Methods: This study was conducted retrospectively in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The demographic, clinical, and laboratory data of newborns diagnosed with culture-proven sepsis within 24 months were evaluated. Results: Two hundred and eleven culture data points belonging to 197 infants were evaluated. Forty percent of the infants had a history of premature birth. The most common clinical findings were respiratory distress and feeding intolerance. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) were detected most frequently as early- and late-sepsis agents. The most common Gram-negative bacteria detected as late-sepsis agents were Klebsiella spp. and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The overall mortality rate was 10%. Conclusions: Neonatal sepsis continues to have high mortality rates in tertiary NICUs. CoNS was the most common agent, highlighting the importance of developing and maintaining personnel training and handwashing practices. It will be important to consider the resistance rates of Klebsiella spp., the most common Gram-negative agent in late-onset sepsis (LOS) cases, to commonly used antibiotics in empirical treatments. Background: Chest physiotherapy for airway clearance is not recommended in children hospitalized with bronchiolitis. The updated Cochrane meta-analysis suggests that slow expiratory techniques could slightly improve clinical severity, but the evidence certainty is low and the clinical significance of this change is unknown. We investigated whether the prolonged slow expiration technique (PSET) would impact the 24-h food intake of these children. Methods: We conducted a two-arm double-blind randomized controlled trial. Hospitalized children aged from 1 to 12 months, bottle-fed or diversified and referred for airway clearance were included. Both groups received upper airway clearance at inclusion and standard treatments. The experimental group received PSET including rhinopharyngeal unclogging and targeted unprovoked cough. The primary outcome was the 24-h food intake. Clinical severity, vomit episodes and sleep quality were also recorded. An ordinary least squares linear regression for quantitative variables was modelled for between-group comparisons. Results: From January 9, 2019, to December 1, 2022, 42 children were randomized with a 1:1 ratio (mean age: 5.0 (± 2.9) months). The 24-h food intake did not differ between groups (estimate: 1.8% (95%CI -7.0 to 10.6); p = 0.68). PSET had no effect on SpO2, clinical severity, RR and HR at the follow-up assessments (5 min, 30 min and 24 h after intervention), nor on the number of vomit episodes, total sleep time and SpO2 during sleep. Conclusions: PSET did not affect food intake or the 24-h course of bronchiolitis more than standard treatment in children hospitalized for moderate bronchiolitis. Introduction: Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a growing method for parents to introduce food to their kids. As advisers who affect the decisions of parents, health practitioners have significant obligations in this regard. Objective: We aim to identify existing literature on the knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes of health professionals toward BLW. Methods: We carried out a scoping review in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. After registering with Open Science Framework, published articles were retrieved from EBSCOhost, PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Open Grey, and the Portuguese Scientific Open Access Repository. Primary studies with full-text availability in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, and no data publication limitations were included. Results: The final sample included seven publications conducted in five countries published between 2012 and 2022. Only one study employed a hybrid methodology showing incongruent practices in parents/health professionals on BLW, whereas most studies employed a quantitative approach. Regarding BLW, it is recognized that there is a dearth of evidence, consensus, and advice. Conclusion: Despite benefits, health professionals hesitate to recommend BLW due to insufficient study and safety concerns, warranting more research. Hence, our scoping review demonstrated that BLW is a scientifically under-researched subject, indicating a significant research gap that must be filled in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Marshallese Pacific Islanders experience higher rates of obesity than other racial and/or ethnic communities. Despite the obesity rates experienced in this community, there are currently no childhood obesity prevention interventions designed for Marshallese Pacific Islanders in the United States. The purpose of this study is to assess the acceptability and feasibility of a culturally adapted group‐based pediatric intervention, Kokajjiriri, with Marshallese mothers to improve nutrition and reduce childhood obesity. Methods: A multi‐methods design was used to culturally adapt the Kokajjiriri intervention for Marshallese mothers in Arkansas (n = 17). In phase one, we conducted 24‐h dietary recalls with 20 Marshallese mothers to inform the cultural adaptation of the group‐based pediatric intervention, and then in phase two, we culturally adapted and piloted three sessions of the intervention to determine the acceptability and feasibility of the intervention. Results: Participants found the adapted intervention to be acceptable and feasible, found the location to be convenient and found the facilitator to be knowledgeable. Four themes emerged from the qualitative data: (1) Lactation Support; (2) Introducing Healthy Solids; (3) Rice Portion Control; and (4) Finding Resources. Conclusions: This is the first study to assess the acceptability and feasibility of a culturally adapted group‐based pediatric intervention, Kokajjiriri, with Marshallese mothers to improve nutrition and reduce childhood obesity. The results from this culturally adapted group‐based pediatric intervention, Kokajjiriri, will be used to inform future adaptations and implementation of the full intervention for Marshallese women and children. Objective: Describe the ear and hearing outcomes in Aboriginal infants in an Australian urban area. Design: Aboriginal infants enrolled in the Djaalinj Waakinj prospective cohort study had ear health screenings at ages 2-4, 6-8 and 12-18 months and audiological assessment at ∼12 months of age. Sociodemographic, environmental characteristics, otoscopy, otoacoustic emissions, tympanometry and visual reinforcement audiometry data were collected. Study Sample: 125 infants were enrolled in the study; 67 completed audiological assessment, 62, 54, and 58 of whom attended ear screenings at 2-4, 6-8 and 12-18 months. Results: Of the children that attended the audiological assessment, 36.5%, 50% and 64.3% of infants had otitis media (OM) at 2-4, 6-8 and 12-18 months. Using a 10 dB correction factor, 44.8% of infants had hearing loss (HL) (≥ 25 dB HL) at ∼ 12 months of age. More males (X2=5.4 (1df, p = 0.02)) and infants with OM at audiological assessment (X2=5.8 (1df, p = 0.02)) had HL. More infants that used a pacifier at 12-18 months of age had HL (X2=4.7 (1df, p = 0.03)). Conclusion: Aboriginal infants in an urban area have high rates of HL and OM, which requires early surveillance and timely treatment to reduce the medical and developmental impacts of OM and HL. Background: Studies investigating the quality of the diet and dietary intake of children with Down syndrome (DS) are required because the features attributed to the syndrome can affect growth, development and quality of life. Methods: This cross‐sectional study was conducted with 77 Brazilian children with DS between 5 and 36 months of age receiving care at the multidisciplinary outpatient clinic of the University Hospital. Participants' sociodemographic, dietary and anthropometric data were collected from the care protocols. Dietary data were collected from 24‐h recalls and dietary practices were assessed according to the WHO dietary guidelines. Associations between inadequate feeding practices and demographic variables were assessed using logistic regression models. Results: Fruits, milk or infant formula, vegetables, beans and meat were among the five most consumed foods by the children investigated. Overall, we observed a high number of cases of early weaning (50.6%), low minimum dietary diversity (MDD; 40.3%), inadequate consistency for age (64.9%), early presence of ultra‐processed foods (76.6%), sugars and sweets (33.8%) in the diet of the children with DS. In the associations of inadequate feeding practices by age group, low MDD [odds ratio (OR): 18.6; 95% confidence interval (CI): 3.4; 57.1] and inadequate consistency (OR: 6.65; 95% CI: 1.8; 24.7) were more frequent among children aged below 12 months while this relationship was inverse for early introduction of sugar and sweets (OR: 0.04; 95% CI: 0.01; 0.29). Conclusion: Our findings showed a high number of cases of inadequate dietary practices in children with DS investigated, which could adversely affect the long‐term health of this population. Background: In an Australian randomized controlled trial (RCT), two techniques for intrapartum fetal surveillance were compared: ST analysis (STan) as an adjunct to cardiotocography (CTG), compared with CTG alone. The aim was to determine whether CTG + STan could reduce emergency cesarean birth rates while maintaining or improving neonatal outcomes. Secondary aims were to compare clinical, economic, and psychosocial outcomes. The purpose of this paper was to present psychosocial outcomes from one cohort enrolled in the trial. Methods: The study was conducted at one tertiary referral hospital. Participants who had taken part in the trial from the outset were invited to complete a questionnaire between March 2018 and January 2020, approximately 8 weeks after giving birth. Outcomes included depression, psychological distress, health‐related quality of life, and infant feeding practices. Analysis was by intention to treat. Results: N = 207/527 participants completed the questionnaire (n = 113, STan; n = 94, CTG alone). Overall, no statistically significant or clinically meaningful differences were found in the two groups for symptoms of depression, psychological distress, quality of life, or infant feeding. A statistically significant difference was observed for the subscale of pain‐discomfort, where scores were higher on average in the CTG alone arm relative to that in the CTG + STan arm. Conclusions: Although STan as an adjunct to CTG constitutes a different clinical technology from CTG alone, both monitoring types appeared to produce similar results in terms of postnatal psychosocial outcomes for women. Findings from this study provide service users and staff with a comprehensive assessment of STan that can be used to make evidence‐informed decisions about monitoring options should STan become more widely available. Early exposure to human milk and time to first trophic feed in low birth weight (LBW) infants (<2 kg) is associated with a decreased risk of mortality, sepsis, and length of hospital stay. This project, focused on infants born at less than 2 kg, aimed to identify the mean time to first feed after birth, identify barriers to initiation of the first feed, and meet the target of having 90% of infants receive their first feed within the first 6 hours of life. This quality improvement (QI) project occurred in a thirty-bed level III NICU over 29 months using two Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles. A first-feed audit tool and a multifaceted educational plan were at the forefront of this initiative. Interventions were multidisciplinary, targeted, and extended to all healthcare team members caring for LBW infants, including staff of Labor and Delivery, the NICU, and the Child Health Transport Team. At the end of the QI project, 91.3% of inborn infants and 27.5% of outborn infants were being fed by 6 hours of age, compared with 78.8% and 12.5%, respectively, prior to the project. The mean time to first feed for inborn infants after the PDSA cycles was reduced to 4.4 hours, having a decrease of 80 minutes. A multidisciplinary approach was a key factor in the success of this QI initiative. Increasing staff education and improving clinical practice guidelines regarding the importance of early exposure to human milk are associated with reducing first feed times after birth. Background & Objective: The role of the mothers is very important in providing care and monitor their children's health in general. Their awareness concerning quality of foods which is needed for each child's developmental stage can effect on nutritional status This Study assess the effect of an nutritional education Program on mother knowledge regarding their children nutritional status. Materials & Methods: Sixty moms were chosen from Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation International in Al-Samawah City and take on using a quasi-experimental design. The researcher used a non-probability "purposive sample" and measured the height and weight for child before calculating the body mass index. Results: The current study found a relationship between moms' educational level and knowledge regard to sociodemographic characteristics with a p-value of .001. However, there were no significant correlations observed between mothers' knowledge in the control group and their age, level of education, occupation, residency, monthly income, and sources of information. Conclusion: Following the interventional program on nutrition-related health, the level of knowledge among the mothers in the study group was enhanced. The study suggested that the nutrition education program should be offered to all moms in order to enhance their understanding and enthusiasm regarding the significance of child nutrition. Breastfeeding (BF) is associated with improved maternal and infant health outcomes. However, underserved populations have limited access to lactation support. Our urban pediatric primary care practice partnered with WIC to integrate a BF peer counselor (BFPC) into newborn visits. To study the association of BF duration with (1) BFPC integration, (2) initial infant feeding methods (IFM). This is a retrospective cohort study of patients receiving BFPC support matched with those that did not based on race, ethnicity, and insurance. IFM were compared using chi-square. BF duration was compared using a t-test. These variables were compared across IFM using ANOVA. A cohort of 111 infant-mother dyads received BFPC support and 222 dyads did not (7/09/2019–4/25/2022). There was no significant difference in feeding methods between these groups. Compared to infants whose IFM was exclusive BF, fewer infants who initially used formula or both formula and breastmilk were exclusively BF at 2-month (55.8%, 8.2%, 10.9%), 4-month (54.8%, 6.3%, 14.5%), and 6-month visits (54.8%, 4.3%, 14.1%) (p < 0.001). There was a significant association between IFM and duration of any and exclusive BF (Formula only: 1 week; BF and Formula: 3 weeks; Exclusive BF: 14 weeks; p < 0.001). A significant association was found between IFM and duration of BF. Early formula introduction was negatively associated with BF duration. The prenatal period may therefore be optimal for initiating BF support. Although there was no association between BFPC and BF duration, additional benefits of this intervention should be explored. Background: Public health initiatives (e.g., the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative) have led to an increase in breastfeeding rates worldwide. However, as (exclusive) breastfeeding duration is still below WHO recommendations, it is crucial to understand the factors that influence decisions on breastfeeding practice. Modifiable psychological factors such as intention to breastfeed have therefore become targets of recent interventions. As the intention to breastfeed is among the strongest predictors of breastfeeding duration, reliable tools for measuring the intention to breastfeed are needed. The Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) measures attitudes towards infant feeding and is used in various languages and across different cultural contexts. However, there has been no German version of the IIFAS (IIFAS-G) so far. The aim of this study was to investigate reliability, validity, and associations of the IIFAS-G with feeding method and breastfeeding duration. Methods: Between August and November 2022, a total of 353 mothers (Mage = 35 years, SDage = 4.2 years) of singleton infants (47.3% female (1 undetermined), Mage = 10.8 months, SDage = 4.7 months, age range: 3-547 days; 90.4% living in Switzerland) participated in an online survey. The IIFAS-G was administered as a part of a larger study on early child development and infant feeding method. Results: The translated IIFAS-G showed unsatisfactory model fit for the two factor 17-item solution. Four items showed low factor loadings. After item reduction, a 13-item two factor solution showed satisfactory model fit (CFI = 0.92, TLI = 0.90, RMSEA = 0.07) and high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.85). The IIFAS-G score was higher for mothers who exclusively breastfed their infants compared to mothers who additionally or exclusively fed infant formula. Moreover, mothers with higher IIFAS-G scores were less likely to stop breastfeeding their child over the course of 1.5years (HR = 0.87). Background: Breastfeeding is widely recognized for its potential to reduce childhood obesity. However, research investigating these benefits in children breastfed for a short duration (up to 6 months) remains limited despite this being a common practice globally. Methods: This study focused on a population breastfed for 6 months or less to determine the potential benefits of short-term breastfeeding for preventing childhood obesity. Data were collected from five survey cycles of an US-based population study (the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)), spanning 2009–2020. A sample of 3,211 children aged 2–6 years was selected, including 1,373 never breastfed and 1,838 ever breastfed. Logistic regression analysis examined the direct association between short-term breastfeeding and childhood obesity. Subsequent subgroup analyses were conducted. Additionally, stratified logistic regression explored the relationship between childhood obesity and the introduction of other early nutrition in both ever-breastfed and never-breastfed children. Results: Overall, breastfeeding for 6 months or less did not directly prevent childhood obesity. However, among participants with older mothers (aged 35 or above), short-term breastfeeding was associated with a lower risk of childhood obesity compared to never being breastfed (OR 0.31, 95% CI: 0.17, 0.59). Similarly, children aged 3–4 years who were breastfed for > 3 ~ 6 months exhibited a lower obesity risk (OR 0.56, 95% CI: 0.35, 0.89). In ever-breastfed children, delayed infant formula introduction was linked to a lower risk of obesity (P-trend < 0.05: introduction at age ≤ 1 vs. >1 ~ 3 vs. >3 months). Conversely, for non-breastfed children, introducing milk (other than breast milk or formula) later (≥ 12 versus < 12 months) and introducing alternatives to whole cow's milk were associated with lower obesity risks (OR 0.54, 95% CI: 0.37, 0.78; OR 0.21, 95% CI: 0.08, 0.60, respectively). Notably, these trends were not observed in ever-breastfed children. Conclusions: Short-term breastfeeding may offer some benefits in preventing childhood obesity for specific populations. This study investigated the effects of oral feeding readiness assessments on nutraceutical therapies in infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units. Nutraceuticals are increasingly being used to promote newborn health. However, their effects on feeding transitions and developmental outcomes have not been thoroughly studied. Therefore, this study was conducted on 210 infants to explore the effect of nutraceutical therapies on the rate of successful eating transitions and the incidence of feeding-related problems. Data on age, gender, birth weight, delivery technique, and nutraceutical use were also collected. Successful transitions, delayed transitions, and complications such as aspiration and feeding intolerance were recorded. The findings indicated that infants who received nutraceutical therapies achieved a higher success rate in transitioning to feeding, with a statistically significant difference in outcomes compared to those who did not. Probiotics improved gastrointestinal well-being and decreased challenges during dietary changes. Omega-3 supplements and vitamin D exhibited favorable effects, aiding smooth transitions and reducing hospital readmissions. This study revealed that age and feeding technique significantly influenced the success of transitions. Validated carotenoid assessment methods are needed to study infant carotenoid nutrition. This is a secondary analysis of repeated diet assessments of healthy participants collected at 4- (n = 21), 6- (n = 12), and 8- (n = 9) months of age in Houston, TX between April 2019 and June 2020. Intake was assessed with 3 assessment tools, analyzed with 3 nutrient databases, and underwent 3 adjustments to account for milk composition variability. We hypothesized that manual adjustment of milk carotenoid intake based on laboratory measurements would improve the validity of all assessment approaches and that using a database with greater coverage of infant food carotenoid compositions would improve accuracy. Generalized linear mixed models assessed associations between tool, nutrient database, age, and milk carotenoid adjustment variables with carotenoid, energy, fruit, and vegetable intakes. The effect of the number of food diary days on intake estimate precision was evaluated by testing the correlation between intake estimates derived from 1, 3, or 5, vs. 7 days. Visit age influenced energy intake estimates (p =.029), along with assessment tool (p =.020). Estimates of vegetable intake were influenced by tool (p =.009). Combined fruit and vegetable intake differed by nutrient database (p =.007). Carotenoid intake differed by age (p =<.0001), tool (p =.002), and nutrient database (p =.004). A minimum of 3 food diary days strongly correlated (rho = 0.79-1) with reference estimates across ages. Milk carotenoid adjustment was most influential in estimating 4-month olds' carotenoid intake, while nutrient database and tool were important for 6- and 8-month-olds', highlighting the dynamic nature of infant diet assessment validity across feeding stages. Introduction: Pregnancy and the postpartum period is a difficult time for women living with HIV (WLWH) and postpartum engagement with HIV care is often reduced, with implications for health and well-being. We aimed to explore the postpartum health experiences of WLWH in relation to engagement in HIV care. Methods: The NESTOR (iNvESTigating the pregnancy and pOst-paRtum health experience of women living with HIV) study was a UK based qualitative semi-structured interview study. 61 eligible women were identified. We used a purposive sampling technique to recruit women with differing levels of engagement in HIV care. Interviews were conducted via telephone or video call. Interviews were audio recorded and fully transcribed. We used a thematic approach for data analysis, and two researchers independently coded the data and established the key themes. Results: 11 of 61 (18%) eligible women participated in the interviews, and the three main themes were 'infant feeding decisions', 'managing the risk of mother to child transmission', and 'managing the knowledge of their HIV status'. These themes offer detailed insights into the significant psychological and emotional challenges these women had experienced, and the practical support from healthcare professionals in both HIV and maternity services that had enabled them to navigate those challenges. Discussion: There have been life-changing developments in the treatment and care for people living with HIV. However, even in the U = U (undetectable = untransmittable) era, traditional concerns about breastfeeding, risk of transmission to the infant and stigma continue to shape the postpartum experience of WLWH. As these impact on their emotional and psychological wellbeing, support in these areas needs to be prioritised. Significance: Studies report that postpartum retention in HIV care and viral load suppression are suboptimal for women living with HIV, where an important reason is the financial cost and access to healthcare. However, there is a relative scarcity of evidence describing the problems faced by women accessing HIV and maternity services within socialised healthcare systems, such as those in the UK. Women living with HIV face unanticipated challenges when becoming new mothers relating to disclosure of their HIV status, fears of vertical transmission and perceived perceptions of others deeming them inadequate mothers. Importantly, our analysis illustrates potential opportunities where intervention might mitigate the emotional and physical impact of these issues on their wellbeing throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Background/Objectives: The primary purpose of this study was to correlate the factors influencing the onset and duration of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and breastfeeding (BF) rates at different time points in baby-friendly hospitals (BFHs) in Greece. Methods: This study was conducted from October 2020 to January 2022. The sample consisted of 1201 mothers with corresponding newborn births out of the total 7201 that took place during the same period. We used a questionnaire that the mothers answered during the first hour after birth, before being discharged from the maternity hospital, and at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th month of the infant's life. The results were compared with the data of the national study from 2017 (concerning births from general maternity hospitals and not only from BFHs). Results: The EBF rate within 1 h after birth was 71.3%, which gradually declined to 21.2% in the 6th month. Between the two studies, differences were recorded in BF and EBF rates at the 6th and 4th month of the infants' life, respectively, especially in mothers who are less likely to breastfeed (e.g., those without breastfeeding experience, those over 40 years old, etc.). Conclusion: This study showed that EBF and BF rates are higher in infants born in BFHs compared to non-BFHs both during their hospitalization in the first days of life and during the first 6 months of life. Background: This study examines the levels and predictors of malnutrition in Indian children under 5 years of age. Methods: Composite Index of Anthropometric Failure was applied to data from the India National Family Health Survey 2019–2021. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to assess the predictors. Results: 52.59% of children experienced anthropometric failure. Child predictors of lower malnutrition risk included female gender (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 0.881) and average or large size at birth (AOR = 0.729 and 0.715, respectively, compared to small size). Higher birth order increased malnutrition odds (2nd-4th: AOR = 1.211; 5th or higher: AOR = 1.449) compared to firstborn. Maternal predictors of lower malnutrition risk included age 20–34 years (AOR = 0.806), age 35–49 years (AOR = 0.714) compared to 15–19 years, normal BMI (AOR = 0.752), overweight and obese BMI (AOR = 0.504) compared to underweight, and secondary or higher education vs. no education (AOR = 0.865). Maternal predictors of higher malnutrition risk included severe anemia vs. no anemia (AOR = 1.232). Protective socioeconomic factors included middle (AOR = 0.903) and rich wealth index (AOR = 0.717) compared to poor, and toilet access (AOR = 0.803). Children's malnutrition risk also declined with paternal education (primary: AOR = 0.901; secondary or higher: AOR = 0.822) vs. no education. Conversely, malnutrition risk increased with Hindu (AOR = 1.258) or Islam religion (AOR = 1.369) vs. other religions. Conclusions: Child malnutrition remains a critical issue in India, necessitating concerted efforts from both private and public sectors. Schools and school teachers often focus on content aimed at delaying sexual debut and preventing teenage pregnancy, and address the impacts of risky behaviours on infant health. Infant simulators are increasingly used in health education courses. However, it is unclear how effective this education is. In this review, we examined the evidence for the effectiveness and use of pregnancy/parenting education programmes for school-aged students using infant simulators. Infant simulators are lifelike replicas of human newborn babies that have electronic capacity to mimic a range of infant behaviours. These may include feeding, comfort needs and nappy changing. Responses to these replicated behaviours may be recorded to provide feedback of the adequacy of the response for educational purposes and provide feedback to prospective parents and caregivers. This review followed the guidelines for conducting a scoping review developed by Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). After following the process as recommended by the JBI, 32 eligible articles were selected for inclusion. Eight themes emerged from the analysis and it was found that the use of infant simulators in terms of effectiveness was not conclusive. This may be due to lack of longitudinal studies examining the impact of the education provided. Furthermore, the literature did not address innovations of infant simulators that replicate infants with particular characteristics, those with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, shaken baby syndrome or challenges from parental substance use. Further research is required to determine the long-term impact of using infant simulators on reducing risky behaviours. This cross-sectional study employs structural equation modelling (sEM) to explore both direct and indirect effects of parental level of education and child individual factors on the length-for-age outcomes in children aged 6–24 months assisted by the Bolsa Família Program in the State of Alagoas. A total of 1448 children were analysed by the sEM technique. A negative standardised direct effect (sDE) of the children's younger age (sDE: −0·06; P = 0·017), the use of bottle feeding (sDE: −0·11; P < 0·001) and lack of a minimum acceptable diet (sDE: −0·09; P < 0·001) on the length-for-age indicator was found. Being female (SDE: 0·08; P = 0·001), a higher birth weight (SDE: 0·33; P < 0·001), being ever breastfed (sdE: 0·07; P = 0·004) and a higher level of parental education (SDE: 0·09; P < 0·001) showed a positive SDE effect on the child's length-for-age. The model also demonstrated a negative standardised indirect effect (SIE) of the sweet beverage consumption (SIE: −0·08; P = 0·003) and a positive effect of being ever breastfed (SIE: 0·06; P = 0·017) on the child's length-for-age through parental level of education as a mediator. This research underscores the crucial role of proper feeding practices and provides valuable insights for the development of targeted interventions, policies and programmes to improve nutritional well-being and promote adequate linear growth and development among young children facing similar challenges. Objective This study aimed to assess beliefs and attitudes of Argentinean neonatologists and neonatal nurses regarding end-of-life care of newborn infants, including withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration (CANH). Study Design A five-domain survey was sent to 465 neonatal health care workers, which included demographic data, general ethical concepts, participation in end-of-life decisions, beliefs about end-of-life care practices, and presentation of four clinical scenarios. Standard statistical tests were used, and a multivariable analysis was done to evaluate variables independently associated with rejecting the withdrawal of CANH. Results A total of 227 questionnaires were anonymously completed, 60% by physicians and 40% by nurses. More respondents agreed to withdraw mechanical ventilation in comparison to CANH in patients under certain circumstances (88 vs. 62%, p < 0.01). The most accepted variables when deciding to withdraw care were the quality of life perceived by parents (86%) and their religious beliefs (73%). A total of 93% agreed that parents should be included in the decision, but only 74% acknowledged they are included in real practice. Considering the scenario of a newborn with severe and irreversible neurological compromise, 46% of respondents were opposed to suspending enteral nutrition. No independent variables were found to be associated with opposing the withdrawal of CANH. Of those agreeing to withdraw enteral feeds under certain circumstances, for the severely neurologically affected neonate 58% would either refuse to limit enteral feeds or consult with an ethics committee before doing so. When given the scenario of their own severe and irreversible neurological compromise, 68% agreed to have enteral feeds withdrawn to themselves, and they were more likely to agree with withdrawing feeds for the severely compromised neonate (odds ratio: 7.2; 95% confidence interval: 2.7–24.1). Conclusion While most health care providers agreed to withdraw life-sustaining support under certain conditions, many were reluctant to suspend CANH. Many responses differed when being asked as general statements versus actual clinical scenarios. Age‐appropriate breastfeeding and introduction to complementary foods can shape child feeding practices, ensure adequate energy and nutrient intake and prevent linear growth faltering. This study aimed to assess mothers' and health workers' knowledge of timely introduction to complementary foods and evaluate the relationship between delays in complementary feeding and subsequent linear growth. We conducted two rounds of surveys (March/August 2017) among 249 health workers (n = 249) and caregivers (n = 2635) of children 6–23 months of age. We collected information about socio‐demographic characteristics, knowledge and practice related to timely introduction to complementary foods. The study was conducted in households from the Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP) districts, in four highland regions of Ethiopia. Delays in the introduction to complementary feeding were widespread with 53% of children 6–8 months of age not consuming solid, semisolid or soft foods in the past 24 h. After controlling for child, caregiver and household characteristics, children not introduced to complementary foods by 6–8 months had a 0.48 SD lower length‐for‐age z‐score at 12–15 months. Caregivers' knowledge was strongly and inversely correlated with untimely introduction of complementary foods in logistic regressions (OR = 0.55, p < 0.01). In turn, local health extension worker's knowledge was strongly correlated with caregiver's knowledge. Consequently, frequent and timely visits by health extension workers emphasising not only on what to feed but also when and how to feed a child are needed. Innovative ways of increasing reach, intensity and frequency of nutrition messaging by using the PSNP interactions as an additional point of contact would need to be explored further. Despite sustained nutrition education, consumption of animal source foods (ASFs) has been hindered by their low availability, accessibility and affordability. Drying eggs into powder can reduce transport/storage costs, increase shelf‐life and allow easier dosage for use of smaller portions. This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of integrating egg powder to the nutrient adequacy and affordability of diets. Using the 'cost of the diet' analysis, we simulated the incorporation of egg powder into households' and children's diet and evaluated its contribution to the nutrient adequacy and affordability of diets. Analysis of the household consumption and expenditure survey (HCES 2016) revealed that only 0.2% of the total consumption expenditure was allocated for eggs, far below the 2.2% and 4.3% required to allow the consumption of one egg a day by the average and the poorest households, respectively. However, the minimum‐cost nutritious diet required only 2.5 g of egg powder/person/day to reduce the cost of the optimized diet by 14% (0–24%), allowing an additional 1.2 million households (~4–6 million individuals) afford the optimized diet. The optimized diet for a child 6–23 months of age could be afforded by all households, except by those in the poorest wealth quintile. But, free distribution of egg powder to households in the poorest wealth quintile, if supplemented by effective nutrition education, can allow them to afford the minimum‐cost nutritious diet for their 6‐ to 23‐month child. The simple dehydration of egg into egg powder can have a substantial contribution towards increased egg consumption by increasing the affordability of the minimum‐cost nutritious diet. Background: Limited research has explored the associations of gestational age (GA) and breastfeeding practices with growth and nutrition in term infants. Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study recruited 7299 singleton term infants from well-child visits in Shandong, China, between March 2021 and November 2022. Data on GA, gender, ethnicity, birth weight, parental heights, gestational diabetes and hypertension, age at visit, breastfeeding practices (point-in-time data at visit for infants < 6 months and retrospective data at 6 months for infants ≥ 6 months), complementary foods introduction, infant length and weight, were collected. 7270 infants were included in the analysis after excluding outliers with Z-scores of length (LAZ), weight or weight for length (WLZ) <-4 or > 4. Linear regression models adjused for covariates explored the impact of GA and breastfeeding practices on LAZ and WLZ, while logistic regression models evaluated their effect on the likelihood of moderate and severe stunting (MSS, LAZ<-2), moderate and severe acute malnutrition (MSAM, WLZ<-2) and overweight/obesity (WLZ > 2). Sensitivity analysis was conducted on normal birth weight infants (2.5–4.0 kg). Results: Infants born early-term and exclusively breastfed accounted for 31.1% and 66.4% of the sample, respectively. Early-term birth related to higher WLZ (< 6 months: β = 0.23, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.16, 0.29; ≥6 months: β = 0.12, 95% CI: 0.04, 0.20) and an increased risk of overweight/obesity throughout infancy (< 6 months: OR: 1.41, 95% CI 1.08, 1.84; ≥6 months: OR: 1.35, 95% CI 1.03, 1.79). Before 6 months, early-term birth correlated with lower LAZ (β=-0.16, 95% CI: -0.21, -0.11) and an increased risk of MSS (OR: 1.01, 95%CI 1.00, 1.02); Compared to exclusive breastfeeding, exclusive formula-feeding and mixed feeding linked to lower WLZ (β=-0.15, 95%CI -0.30, 0.00 and β=-0.12, 95%CI -0.19, -0.05, respectively) and increased risks of MSAM (OR: 5.57, 95%CI 1.95, 15.88 and OR: 3.19, 95%CI 1.64, 6.19, respectively). Sensitivity analyses confirmed these findings. Conclusions: The findings emphasize the health risks of early-term birth and the protective effect of exclusive breastfeeding in singleton term infants, underscoring the avoidance of nonmedically indicated delivery before 39 weeks and promoting exclusive breastfeeding before 6 months. The support groups within social networking sites such as Facebook have become a popular platform for various kinds of conversation and social support including health, especially among women. The aim of this study was to explore and analyze the types of health-related social support messages posted in a month by Kashmiri women in a Facebook group and the most common health topics for which social support was sought. A total of 302 health-related posts were selected for analysis. The results revealed that of various health-related social support posts in the group, informational support messages were posted more frequently and most requested information was related to pregnancy. Explore health professionals' perceptions toward how to address malnutrition within the first 1,000 days of life in underresourced communities. A qualitative explorative-descriptive study using 8 face-to-face focus group discussions. Health facilities serving underresourced communities within Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Fifty-six health professionals (n = 13 doctors, n = 28 nurses, n = 6 dietitians, and n = 9 social workers) aged between 20 and 60 years, with 1–16 years (5 years average) of working experience. The majority (n = 53; 94.6%) were women. Health professionals' perceptions of effective methods or strategies to address malnutrition are referred to as undernutrition. Content analysis. Health professionals perceived socioeconomic conditions; caregiver lack of nutrition knowledge; and behavioral, cultural, and generational infant feeding practices as contributing factors to malnutrition. Participants recommended efforts to strengthen the availability, accessibility, and utilization of contraception, especially for teenagers, increase support to caretakers of children from families, health facilities, and communities, and a multisector and multidisciplinary approach to improve social determinants of health in underresourced communities. To address malnutrition within the first 1,000 days of life, data supports that health professionals in underresourced communities require a multisector, multidisciplinary approach. Summary: Background/Objectives: The infant diet represents one of the main modifiable determinants of early growth. This study aimed to investigate the associations of infant feeding practices with body mass index (BMI) until 7.5 years. Subjects/Methods: Analyses were based on data from the French nationwide ELFE birth cohort. Data on breastfeeding (BF) and complementary feeding (CF) were collected monthly from 2 to 10 months. Infant feeding practices were characterized using principal component analyses (PCA) and hierarchical ascendant classification. BMI z‐score was computed at 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7.5 years, from data collected in the child's health booklet; 7.5‐year overweight was defined according to IOTF references. Associations between infant feeding practices and BMI were investigated by linear regression models adjusted for main confounders. Results: Ever breastfeeding was not associated with BMI up to 7.5 years. Compared to intermediate breastfeeding duration (1 to <3 months), longer breastfeeding duration (≥6 months) was related to lower 1‐year BMI, but not at older ages. Compared to the recommended age at CF introduction (4–6 months), early CF (<4 months) was related to higher BMI up to 5 years with a similar trend at 7.5 years, but not to the risk of overweight. The PCA patterns characterized by early baby cereal introduction and late food pieces introduction or by frequent intake of main food groups were related to a lower BMI up to 7.5 years. Responsive feeding serves as an important protective factor for infant growth and overall health development. This study based on self‐determination theory (SDT) aimed to assess the effects of a responsive breastfeeding (RBF) intervention programme on maternal breastfeeding and infant growth and development. A total of 110 mother–infant pairs were recruited and randomly divided into an intervention group (n = 55) and a control group (n = 55). The primary outcomes were breastfeeding motivation score, breastfeeding self‐efficacy (BSE) and exclusive breastfeeding rate; the secondary outcomes were infant physical development at 6 weeks and 3 months. A repeated measures ANOVA indicated that the intervention group had significantly higher Enjoyment scores compared to the control group at three time points: at discharge (MD: 5.28; 95% CI: 3.68 to 6.89; p < 0.001), 6 weeks post‐partum (MD: 5.06; 95% CI: 3.80 to 6.31; p < 0.001) and 3 months post‐partum (MD: 5.24; 95% CI: 4.12 to 6.35; p < 0.001). Similarly, the intervention group reported significantly higher connection and mother's self‐perception scores at discharge (MD: 4.31; 95% CI: 3.07 to 5.56; p < 0.001), 6 weeks post‐partum (MD: 4.69; 95% CI: 3.71 to 5.68; p < 0.001) and 3 months post‐partum (MD: 4.93; 95% CI: 4.14 to 5.72; p < 0.001), compared to the control group. In contrast, the pressure from significant others scores were higher in the control group relative to the intervention group at discharge (MD: −2.09; 95% CI: −2.88 to −1.31; p < 0.001), 6 weeks post‐partum (MD: −4.35; 95% CI: −5.20 to −3.49; p < 0.001) and 3 months (MD: −4.89; 95% CI: −5.70 to −4.08; p < 0.001). Finally, the intervention group also reported higher Instrumental Needs scores at all three time points: at discharge (MD: 1.96; 95% CI: 1.35 to 2.58; p < 0.001), 6 weeks post‐partum (MD: 3.58; 95% CI: 3.05 to 4.11; p < 0.001) and 3 months post‐partum (MD: 1.18; 95% CI: 0.68 to 1.69; p < 0.001). BSE scores were significantly higher in the intervention group compared to the control group at discharge (MD: 14.29; 95% CI: 10.38 to 18.21; p < 0.001), 6 weeks post‐partum (MD: 14.04; 95% CI: 11.05 to 17.02; p < 0.001) and 3 months post‐partum (MD: 6.80; 95% CI: 4.66 to 8.94; p < 0.001). The rates of exclusive breastfeeding were higher in the intervention group than in the control group at each stage of the intervention (p < 0.01). At 6 weeks post‐partum, the intervention group's infants showed slower weight (t = −0.90, p = 0.371) and length (t = −0.69, p = 0.495) growth compared to the control group, though not significantly. By 3 months post‐partum, there was a significant difference in both weight (t = −3.46, p = 0.001) and length (t = −2.95, p = 0.004) between the groups. The findings in this study suggest that the RBF intervention programme based on SDT may be effective in improving mothers' motivation to breastfeed, building breastfeeding self‐confidence and increasing the rate of exclusive breastfeeding. The effects of the intervention on infant physical development will need to be verified with longer follow‐up in future research. Breastfeeding is a crucial public health approach that reduces infant morbidity and mortality by providing essential nutrients and antibodies, and breast milk is easily digested. Breastfeeding and donated milk serve as a preventative measure against necrotising enterocolitis. Additionally, they protect against viruses and nosocomial sepsis. When a birthing parent's own milk is unavailable, alternative enteral nutrition for preterm or low‐birth‐weight infants is either donor human milk (DHM) or artificial formula. This study aimed to understand mothers' acceptance of the donor human milk bank (DHMB) and DHM. A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted in Limpopo Province, South Africa. The study used purposive sampling to select 23 mothers in postnatal and neonatal wards. Data collection was via in‐depth interviews using a semistructured interview guide. Manual data analysis using an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) framework was used to coding. Concepts were grouped to generate themes. Three themes and nine subthemes were generated: (1) DHMBs (2) cultural perspective of DHMB, and (3) health considerations of DHM. Participants were unaware of the DHMB. Hesitancy in accepting DHM due to fear of contracting HIV was observed. Cultural beliefs are an influencing factor for use, while donation was driven by altruistic reasons, preventing waste, helping others and having previously benefited from DHM. The study found that mothers are willing to donate human milk. Willingness to donate can be increased by raising awareness about DHMB and addressing culture and safety concerns at antenatal clinics. Key messages: The study emphasises the possible willingness to accept the concept of donating and utilising donor human milk for newborns who do not have access to their mother's own milk. To address high rates of malnutrition among children from vulnerable households in Rwanda, the government initiated a national food supplementation programme. A before and after evaluation, using repeat cross‐sectional surveys in randomly selected villages was conducted; aimed at assessing the effectiveness of providing fortified blended food (FBF) to children 18–23 months of age, pregnant and lactating women in the lowest tier of Rwanda's social support system. Data were collected in 2017, 2018 and 2021 through interviews with caregivers; anthropometric measurements and a capillary blood sample were obtained from children. The primary statistical analysis compared the nutritional status of children before and after the introduction of FBF. We enroled 724 children during each survey. The prevalence of stunting declined from 47% to 35% between 2017 and 2021; in 2018, the prevalence of stunting was 43%. Children had a 42% reduction in the odds of being stunted (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 0.58, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.47–0.74, p < 0.001) from 2017 to 2021 even after adjusting for inherent, distal, proximal, and intermediate covariates. The reduction in stunting observed within the first year of the programme was not statistically significant (AOR: 0.83, 95% CI: 0.67–1.03, p < 0.091). We observed meaningful reductions in the prevalence of stunting among children which coincided with the introduction of Government‐led initiative to reduce malnutrition. The Rwandan Government has committed to improving the living conditions of vulnerable households and has made strong investments in reducing malnutrition. The impact of these investments can be seen in the overall trend towards improved nutritional status highlighted in this evaluation. Key messages: The national distribution of fortified blended food (FBF) to pregnant and lactating women and 6‐ to 23‐month‐old children living in the most vulnerable households was associated with a meaningful reduction in stunted linear growth, iron deficiency and anaemia among young children after 5 years.This study indicates that stunted linear growth, in early childhood, can be reduced over 5 years when the government is committed to and invests in improving the living conditions of vulnerable households, including the national food supplementation programme.It was attainable to distribute FBF to vulnerable pregnant and lactating women and 6‐ to 23‐month‐old children, in a national programme, over the 5‐year evaluation period, including during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Limited evidence exists on the long‐term effects of early feeding practices on child growth and development. We examined the relationships between infant feeding practices and child height and development at ages 2 and 6–7 years. We studied 885 mother–child dyads from a randomized controlled trial of preconception supplementation in Vietnam. Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF), exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), breastfeeding (BF) duration and minimum dietary diversity (MDD) were assessed using World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Child development was assessed by the Bayley Scales of Infant Development‐III at 2 years and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children® – IV at 6–7 years. Child height‐for‐age z‐score (HAZ) was calculated from child height and age. Multivariable regression and structural equation models were used in analyses that controlled for confounding. EIBF and EBF at 6 months occurred in 52% and 62% of children, respectively. Mean breastfeeding duration was 18 months and 83% achieved MDD at 1 year. EIBF was associated with motor (β = 0.13, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.00, 0.28) and cognitive development at 2 years (β = 0.12, 95% CI: −0.01, 0.26), which in turn were positively associated with cognitive development at 6–7 years. EBF was directly associated with development at 6–7 years (β = 0.21, 95% CI:0.08, 0.34) whereas motor and cognitive development at 2 years explained 41%–75% of the relationship between EIBF and development at 6–7 years. HAZ at 2 years also mediated 70% of the association between MDD at 1 year and HAZ at 6–7 years. BF duration was not associated with child development and HAZ. Early infant feeding practices, especially EIBF and EBF, have important long‐term implications for optimizing child linear growth and cognition as they begin school. Ensuring proper early feeding for young children is crucial, as encountering feeding difficulties (FD) during this stage can give rise to a cascade of health problems, the repercussions of which may endure into late childhood and adolescence. Children raised by transgender parents may be at risk of encountering FD, however, there is no research conducted on Chinese transgender families. We designed a cross-sectional survey in which the rate of FD and its influencing factors were investigated among transgender parents in China. A total of 446 Chinese transgender parents (average age 30.39 years) were included in the analysis. Logistic regression models were applied to investigate the influencing factors of FD among children of transgender parents. We also established structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the possible pathways among these factors and FD. The rate of FD in children of Chinese transgender parents is 55.4%, with 34.5% having severe FD. Coming out after having a child (AOR = 2.26, 95%CI = 1.33 ∼ 3.91), family violence (AOR = 1.06, 95%CI = 1.04 ∼ 1.09), partner violence (AOR = 1.11, 95%CI = 1.08 ∼ 1.15), no feeding education (accepting feeding education: AOR = 0.43, 95%CI = 0.25 ∼ 0.74), being discriminated during seeking of childbearing health care (AOR = 1.99, 95%CI = 1.3 ∼ 3.05), and poor relationship with partner (fair: AOR = 0.09, 95%CI = 0.03 ∼ 0.22; good: AOR = 0.06, 95%CI = 0.02 ∼ 0.15) are significantly associated with higher FD. Furthermore, through the pathway analysis, the indirect effects of education level (β=−0.151), feeding education (β = 0.145), and relationship with partner (β=-0.196) on FD are observed. Children of Chinese transgender parents showed a high FD rate. Objective The aim of this study was to describe clinical outcomes of bridled nasogastric tube (NGT) program implementation for infants requiring assisted home feeding (AHF) to discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Study Design This was a descriptive prospective analysis of a pilot cohort of infants after implementation of a bridled NGT AHF program to facilitate discharge from level III and IV NICUs from March 2019 to October 2020. Results Of 29 attempts in infants, 22 infants were discharged with bridled NGTs over 18 months. Bridle placement was unsuccessful in three patients, and four bridles were removed before discharge. Bridle use ranged from 7 to 125 days, with a median duration of 37 days. Dislodgement rate was 0.69 per 100 days. Seventeen infants (77%) achieved full oral feeds, while five (23%) discharged with bridled NGTs later converted to gastrostomy tubes. Conclusion Implementation of a bridled NGT program is feasible for level III and IV NICUs to facilitate discharging infants who require feeding support to transition home. Purpose: This single‐group, quasiexperimental study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding position on the physiological parameters and feeding performance of term‐born infants with cleft lip and palate (CLP) in the preoperative period. Methods: The study sample consisted of 45 infants aged 0–6 months with CLP followed up preoperatively in our outpatient clinic between January 2021 and 2022. Infants who were being fed with a specialty bottle for babies with CLP and whose families consented to participate in the study were included. After 2 h of fasting, the infants were fed in the elevated supine (ESU) position for the first meal, then in the elevated side‐lying (ESL) position for the second meal after another 2 h of fasting. The infants' heart rate and oxygen saturation values before, during, and after each feed and indicators of feeding performance were compared between the positions. Results: There was no significant difference between the positions in terms of heart rate and oxygen saturation before, during, or after feeding (p >.05). There was no statistically significant difference in measures of feeding performance according to the infants' feeding position (p >.05). Conclusion: According to the findings obtained in this study, infants with CLP showed no statistically significant differences in heart rate, oxygen saturation, or feeding performance when fed in the ESL and ESU positions. Practice Implications: However, despite the lack of statistical significance, both physiological values and feeding performance tended to be better when the infants were fed in the ESL position, nurses can practice ESL position according to the infant's opposite direction of the side of the cleft lip or palate. Purpose: To evaluate the impact of the 2022 infant formula shortage on self-reported anxiety and depression. Background: The US national infant formula shortage of 2022 originated from supply chain disruptions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the shortage was further compounded by a recall of tainted formula products. Methods: We used survey-weighted data from the Household Pulse Survey (HPS) to measure self-reported anxiety and depression among individuals with formula-fed infants less than 1 year of age. We evaluated the association between 2 formula disruption variables (being impacted by the infant formula shortage or having difficulty obtaining formula in the last 7 days) with 2 mental health outcomes (anxiety and depression) using multivariable logistic regressions. Results: We found increased odds of self-reported anxiety (aOR: 3.13; P < .001) and depression (aOR: 3.05; P = .005) for respondents affected by the infant formula shortage. There were no adjusted associations between having difficulty obtaining formula in the last 7 days and anxiety and depression. Conclusions: Individuals affected by the infant formula shortage had increased odds of both anxiety and depression. Continued efforts to improve food security for low-income infants is critical for ensuring equitable nutritional and health outcomes across infant populations. Implications for practice and research: Continued efforts to reduce food insecurity for low-income infants are critically needed, as infant nutrition impacts caregiver mental health and infant health. Purpose: This study aimed to longitudinally investigate the preterm infant feeding regimens, feeding behaviors, effect on infant growth, and caregiver perceptions and experiences with feeding in the first 4 weeks following hospital discharge. Background: Preterm infants face high nutritional risk due to their underdeveloped gastrointestinal systems and feeding coordination. Methods: Caregivers of preterm infants were recruited to participate in a weekly telephone survey for the first 4 weeks following the infant's hospital discharge. Responses for infant feeding behaviors and caregiver experiences were scored on a 3-point Likert scale. Growth and feeding data were collected from the infant's first neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) developmental follow-up visit. Results: Twenty-four caregivers completed the study. Changes in feeding regimens were common (8/24 infants; 33%), with the percentage of infants receiving any human milk feedings decreasing from 70% at hospital discharge to 54% at 4 weeks post-discharge. Poor infant feeding skills were weakly associated with poor caregiver feeding experiences, and 46% of caregivers reported contacting their healthcare provider with feeding-related questions. Thirty-eight percent of infants required nutritional intervention at NICU developmental follow-up visit. Infants who received fortified feedings during the first 4 weeks after hospital discharge grew an average of 2.5 g/day faster than infants who did not receive fortified feedings. Conclusion: The postdischarge period for preterm infants is characterized by feeding regimen changes, a decrease in human milk use, and caregiver questions about feeding. Implications for Practice and Research: Future studies should further investigate the period after hospital discharge to enable better feeding support for preterm infants and their caregivers. Objective: Breastfeeding is the optimal source of nutrition for all infants, but there are limited data on feeding outcomes in infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) who are admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at a level II/III NICU. Study sample consisted infants with a diagnosis of NAS and those diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome. The primary outcome was attainment of independent oral feeds, defined as the number of days to transition from full-tube to full oral feeds. Secondary outcomes included length of hospital stay and method (breast or bottle) of oral feeds at the start, at attainment of independent oral feeds, and at hospital discharge. Results: Infants with NAS took significantly longer to attain independent oral feeds than controls (P = .021) and received significantly fewer breastfeeds at the start of oral feeds, at independent oral feeds, and at hospital discharge (P = .000). There was no difference in length of hospital stay between groups. Conclusion: These results suggest that infants with NAS can experience difficulties achieving independent oral feeds and are less likely to receive breastfeeds. To examine the impact of developmental monitoring on child referrals, a retrospective data review, comparing seven pilot programs with seven matched controls in Special Supplemental Nutrition Programs for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) was completed. Pilot programs were trained on developmental monitoring and how to refer families to their local Early Intervention (EI) program, Special Education, or Family TIES (Together in Enhancing Support), services when there is a developmental concern. The "Learn the Signs. Act Early" developmental monitoring program was implemented, and the outcomes included the number of referrals made over a 6-month period. The results indicated a statistically significant difference (p = <.001) in referrals made preimplementation compared to postimplementation with a large effect size (d = 0.96) for pilot programs. Additionally, when analyzing between-groups there were significantly more referrals (p = .001) made at the pilot programs compared to the control programs, again with a large effect size (d = 2.10). This study shows that the implementation of developmental monitoring within WIC programs was effective in increasing referrals to intervention services designed to support families with early identification of developmental delay. Objective: The objective of this study is to comprehensively understand the psychological experience of primiparous women during breastfeeding while dealing with lactating mastitis and to establish a reliable foundation for tailored support measures. Methods: Twenty primiparous mothers from a tertiary hospital in Beijing between January and March 2023 were chosen using purposive sampling for semi-structured interviews. After conducting 20 interviews, data saturation was achieved. The Colaizzi's seven-step analytical approach was employed to analyze, summarize, and refine the identified themes. Results: Among primiparous women afflicted by lactating mastitis, the primary themes regarding breastfeeding attitudes included three key aspects: (1) uncertainty during the initial diagnosis phase, (2) intricate emotional journey during treatment, and (3) positive psychological outlook during the recovery stage. Conclusion: Primiparous women undergoing lactating mastitis experience substantial physical and psychological strain. It is crucial for medical personnel, family caregivers, and society at large to be attuned to the emotions of these patients. Background: Food insecurity significantly impacts children's health, affecting their development across cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional dimensions. This study explores the impact of food insecurity among children aged 6 months to 5 years, focusing on nutrient intake and its relationship with various forms of malnutrition. Methods: Utilizing machine learning algorithms, this study analyzed data from 819 children in the West Bank to investigate sociodemographic and health factors associated with food insecurity and its effects on nutritional status. The average age of the children was 33 months, with 52% boys and 48% girls. Results: The analysis revealed that 18.1% of children faced food insecurity, with household education, family income, locality, district, and age emerging as significant determinants. Children from food-insecure environments exhibited lower average weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference compared to their food-secure counterparts, indicating a direct correlation between food insecurity and reduced nutritional and growth metrics. Moreover, the machine learning models observed vitamin B1 as a key indicator of all forms of malnutrition, alongside vitamin K1, vitamin A, and zinc. Specific nutrients like choline in the "underweight" category and carbohydrates in the "wasting" category were identified as unique nutritional priorities. Background: Nutrition exerts a fundamental role in the prevention of obesity (OB). The aim of this study was to assess the extent to which well recognized risk factors for early OB can be associated to overweight (OW) or OB under a standardized nutritional approach and surveillance in toddlers. Methods: The eligible population was represented by 676 toddlers aged 24–36 months, assigned to 18 primary care pediatricians trained on nutritional issues who shared a standardized nutritional approach. Six-hundred-twenty-nine children (333 boys), mean age 27.8 ± 4.2 months were effectively included in this observational study. Parents received nutritional advice with particular emphasis to proteins and sugar composition supported by leaflets and reinforced at each visit. Body mass index was assessed at the age of 24–36 months. The following individual and family risk factors were considered: gestational age, birth weight, eutocic/caesarean delivery, milk feeding history, household smoking or antibiotics exposure, parents' weight, height and educational level. Prevalence of OW/OB was compared to a group of 742 toddlers (373 boys) under usual care. Results: Under a standardized nutritional counselling, 28.1% toddlers were classified as OW/OB compared to 36.9% toddlers under usual care (p = 0.005). In unadjusted models, parental OW/OB was significantly associated to OW/OB in toddlers (p < 0.01), while high birth weight did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.07). In adjusted models, including all the explanatory variables studied, only paternal OW/OB vs. normal weight was significantly associated to OW/OB in toddlers (OR 2.035, 95% confidence interval 1.206–3.436). No protective effect of exclusive breast feeding during the first 6 months of age was demonstrated. Conclusions: Toddlers under a standardized nutrition counselling focused to limit protein and simple sugars, showed lower prevalence of OW/OB compared to usual care. Background: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major public health challenge in Ethiopia. The objective of this review was to assess the pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV and its risk factors among mother-infant pairs who initiated antiretroviral therapy (ART) after Option B+ in Ethiopia. Methods: A systematic search of literature from PubMed, Hinari, African Journals Online (AJOL), Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases was conducted from June 11, 2013 to August 1, 2023. The authors used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines to guide the article selection process and reporting. Observational studies that reported the magnitude and/or risk factors on MTCT of HIV among mother-infant pairs who initiated ART after the implementation of Option B+ in Ethiopia were included. We applied a random-effect model meta-analysis to estimate the overall pooled magnitude and risk factors of MTCT of HIV. A funnel plot and Egger's regression test were employed to check publication bias, and heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics. The protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database with registration ID number CRD42022325938. Result: Eighteen published articles on the magnitude of MTCT and 16 published articles on its risk factors were included in this review. The pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV after the Option B+ program in Ethiopia was 4.05% (95% CI 3.09, 5.01). Mothers who delivered their infants at home [OR: 9.74; (95% CI: 6.89–13.77)], had not been on ART intervention [OR: 19.39; (95% CI: 3.91–96.18)], had poor adherence to ART [OR: 7.47; (95% CI: 3.40–16.45)], initiated ART during pregnancy [OR: 5.09; (95% CI: 1.73–14.97)], had WHO clinical stage 2 and above [OR: 4.95; (95% CI: 1.65–14.88]], had a CD4 count below 350 at enrolment [OR: 5.78; (95% CI: 1.97–16.98], had no or low male partner involvement [OR: 5.92; (95% CI: 3.61–9.71]] and whose partner was not on ART [OR: 8.08; (95% CI: 3.27–19.93]] had higher odds of transmitting HIV to their infants than their counterparts. Conclusion: This review showed that the pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV among mother-infant pairs who initiated ART after the Option B + program in Ethiopia is at the desired target of the WHO, which is less than 5% in breastfeeding women. Home delivery, lack of male partner involvement, advanced HIV-related disease, lack of PMTCT intervention, and poor ARV adherence were significant risk factors for MTCT of HIV in Ethiopia. Summary: Background: Early entry into nonparental care (NPC) and introduction to solid foods (ITS) have been linked to elevated weight, however, little research exists on the combined influence of these transitions on child weight over time. Objectives: Identify groups of children based on early NPC and ITS timing and examine whether NPC‐ITS groups differentially affect child weight over time. Method: Data were drawn from STRONG Kids2 (n = 468). Primary predictors include NPC (by 3M)‐ITS (< or ≥6M) groups; outcome variables include child weight‐for‐length/height z‐scores (WFL/WFHz) (3, 12, 18, and 24 months). Multilevel regression was used to examine the NPC‐ITS groups as predictors of child WFL/WFHz. Results: Six groups were identified: 27% Parental Care‐ITS before 6M, 31% Parental Care‐ITS after 6M, 12% Daycare‐ITS before 6M, 14% Daycare‐ITS after 6M, 10% Kincare‐ITS before 6M, and 7% Kincare‐ITS after 6M. Children who were in daycare (regardless of ITS) or kincare‐ITS before 6M demonstrated the highest WFL/WFHz over time, compared to their parental care counterparts. Conclusions: NPC‐ITS combinations on child WFL/WFHz across the first 2 years of life highlight the need for a partnership approach among parental and nonparental caregivers to support the feeding of infants throughout the transition to solid foods. Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is recognized as the optimal source of nutrition for infants. Although exclusive breastfeeding rates have increased overall in the United States, substantial inequities exist in breastfeeding among individuals of different socioeconomic statuses, races, and ethnicities. The purpose of this study was to examine characteristics associated with exclusive breastfeeding intentions among pregnant women in Arkansas enrolled in a Healthy Start program. Methods: The current study included a cross-sectional design, with a sample of 242 pregnant women in Arkansas enrolled in a Healthy Start program. Results: The majority of the participants (56.6%) indicated their infant feeding intentions included a combination of breastfeeding and formula feeding. There were substantial differences in breastfeeding intentions among women of different races/ethnicities, with 18.5% of Marshallese women indicating they planned to exclusively breastfeed, compared to 42.1% of White women, 47.6% of Black women, and 31.8% of Hispanic women (p < 0.001). Women over the age of 18 and with higher educational attainment were more likely to intend on exclusively breastfeeding. Discussion: This is the first study to examine characteristics associated with exclusive breastfeeding intentions among pregnant women in Arkansas enrolled in a Healthy Start program. The study found that race/ethnicity and age were most strongly associated with breastfeeding intentions. These findings are critical to identifying populations for resource allocation and to developing culturally-tailored interventions to help women in Arkansas achieve their desired infant feeding methods. Background: Late preterm births account for a large portion of preterm births, yet the optimal method of nutrition and enteral feeding in this population remains unclear and often involves intravenous (IV) fluids. Purpose: To develop and implement a late preterm feeding protocol in order to decrease the necessity of IV access, decrease the use of starter parenteral nutrition (PN), and reduce the pain endured by an infant in the neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: The Plan-Do-Study-Act quality improvement model was utilized as a framework for the implementation of this quality improvement project. A literature review was conducted and subsequently, a feeding protocol was developed and included the more judicious use of starter PN. This protocol was implemented, evaluated, and adopted. A second Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle was completed with the addition of an auto-text reminder incorporated into admission notes in the electronic medical record. Results: The implementation of the protocol significantly reduced placement of IV access and the use of starter (PN) in late preterm infants without considerable differences in balancing measures. The percentage of infants who received peripheral IV access declined considerably from 70% to 42% (P = .0017) subsequently, less pain endured by the infants. There was a decrease in the initiation of starter PN from 55% to 7% (P < .00001). Implications for Practice and Research: Administering enteral feedings on admission to stable, late preterm infants, reduced the need for peripheral IV access and thus decreased pain from this procedure. More research needs to be done to determine the optimal amount of feedings to administer in the first 24 hours of life for the late preterm infant as well as the best method for supplementation if necessary. The effects of preterm birth, neonatal morbidities and environmental influences on infant sleep development is an important yet under-researched topic, with little known about normative sleep for infants born sick or preterm. The aim of this prospective, observational longitudinal study was to evaluate maternal perceptions and degree of bother with infant sleep behaviours and feeding outcomes across the first 9 months after discharge for sick/preterm infants cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and for healthy term-born infants. This paper reports outcomes for the sick/preterm cohort (I = 94) that were recruited from two NICUs in Perth, Western Australia. Total bother scores were on average 20.2% higher at 9 months than at two weeks post-discharge (p < 0.001). Increased night waking frequency, evening settling duration and crying duration were all positively associated with total bother scores. Maternal confidence scores were negatively associated with maternal bother scores; with each unit increase in confidence, maternal bother decreased by 8.5% (p < 0.001). Covariates such as birth gestation, breastfeeding status and multiple births were not associated with maternal bother. Families may benefit from additional support when experiencing increased night waking frequency and crying and settling durations in the first 9 months after discharge from NICU.
