Summary: MET exon 14 skipping alterations and MET amplifications are recognized as oncogenic and targetable genetic changes in cancer patients. The treatment of MET-selective tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in this specific population has shown encouraging therapeutic results. However, a comprehensive understanding of the potential toxicities linked to these agents is still lacking. The present pharmacovigilance analysis was carried out using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database to assess notable adverse events associated with MET-selective TKIs. Gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory toxicity, hepatotoxicity, and disturbances in metabolism and nutrition demonstrated a substantial prevalence and significance among the adverse event (AE) categories. Particularly notable were the occurrences of peripheral oedema, nausea, dysphagia, fatigue, and dyspnoea, which emerged as the foremost five reported AEs. The majority of these AEs were observed within the initial months of initiating treatment with MET-selective TKIs and persistently thereafter. Notably, our investigation unveiled a significant correlation between the usage of capmatinib and the incidence of hearing loss and difficulty in swallowing. Diligent monitoring and the implementation of supportive care strategies are essential in managing the toxicities associated with MET-selective TKIs, particularly those related to gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory toxicity, hepatotoxicity, and ototoxicity. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of vitamin D and/or calcium supplementation on sleep quality in individuals with prediabetes. Methods: A 24-week randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted in a 212 Chinese population with prediabetes. Participants were randomly assigned to four groups: vitamin D + calcium group (1600 IU/day + 500 mg/day, n = 53), vitamin D group (1600 IU/day, n = 54), calcium group (500 mg/day, n = 51), and control group (placebo, n = 54). The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used as the primary outcome to assess sleep quality. Questionnaires and fasting blood samples were collected at baseline and post-intervention for demographic assessment and correlation index analysis. Results: After a 24-week intervention, a significant difference was observed in serum 25(OH)D concentration among the four groups (P < 0.05), and the total PSQI score in vitamin D + calcium group was lower compared to the preintervention levels. Subgroup analyses revealed improved sleep quality with calcium supplementation (P < 0.05) for specific groups, including women, individuals with a low baseline 25(OH)D level (< 30 ng/mL), and individuals in menopause. Moreover, correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between the extent of change in sleep efficiency scores before and after the calcium intervention and the degree of change in insulin efficiency scores (r = − 0.264, P = 0.007), as well as the magnitude of change in islet beta cell function (r = − 0.304, P = 0.002). Conclusions: The combined intervention of vitamin D and calcium, as well as calcium interventions alone, exhibits substantial potential for improving sleep quality in individuals with prediabetes. Background: Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) is reported to reduce incident atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with or without diabetes; however, its cardiovascular (CV) benefit for AF patients remains unclear.SS Aims: To investigate the effect of SGLT2i on the incidence of CV events in patients with AF. Methods: Six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of SGLT2i on CV outcomes in patients with or without AF were included (PROSPERO: CRD 42023431535). The primary endpoint was the composite outcome of heart failure (HF) hospitalization and CV death. Additionally, we assessed the effects of treatment in prespecified subgroups on HF hospitalization, CV death, and all‐cause mortality. Results: Among 38,529 participants from all trials, 5018 patients with AF were treated with SGLT2i. The follow‐up period of these trials ranged from 2.3 to 3.3 years. SGLT2i treatment was significantly associated with the risk reduction of primary endpoint in patients with AF (risk ratio [RR] 0.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74–0.88; p < 0.001), consistent with the finding in the general population (p for interaction = 0.76). SGLT2i was also associated with a consistent reduction in the risk of HF hospitalization in patients with AF (RR 0.76, 95% CI 0.69–0.84; p < 0.001) or not (RR 0.72, 95% CI 0.64–0.80; p < 0.0001), with no statistical difference between them (p for interaction = 0.41). Meta‐regression further revealed no significant association between the prevalence of HF with reduced ejection fraction or diabetes and the effect size of SGLT2i. Preceding research has demonstrated the positive relation between gratitude and well-being at the trait level, but less is known about the day-to-day association between them. This study investigated the within-person associations of gratitude with hedonic and eudaimonic well-being using a daily diary design. A sample of 363 young adults (M = 19.77, SD = 1.84) finished an online questionnaire once a day for 14 consecutive days. The results indicated that gratitude was positively related to hedonic and eudaimonic well-being on the same day, and gratitude positively predicted next-day hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, but not vice versa. We also found the reciprocal relation between the cognitive component of daily hedonic well-being (i.e., life satisfaction) and daily gratitude measured by the Gratitude Questionnaire. Moreover, these cross-lagged relations were not moderated by trait gratitude. These results provide supportive and convincing evidence for the positive effect of gratitude at the state level. Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between varying levels of obesity and physical fitness test scores among Chinese adolescents, while also investigating gender differences in physical fitness and overall health. Data on height, weight, 50 m sprints, 1000/800 m runs, standing long jumps, sit and reach exercises, pull-ups/bent-leg sit-ups, and additional variables were collected from the DYH health database. Physical fitness indicators were evaluated based on the revised 2014 National Physical Fitness Standards for Students, and scores were assigned accordingly. An ordinal logistic regression (ologit) model was employed to analyze the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and physical fitness. Results: (1) Normal-weight boys achieved significantly higher physical fitness test scores than boys in other weight categories. (2) Underweight and normal-weight girls obtained significantly higher physical fitness test scores compared to overweight and obese girls, with underweight girls scoring slightly higher than those with a normal weight. Conclusions: (1) There is a significant non-linear relationship between BMI levels and physical fitness test scores. (2) Gender differences were observed in physical fitness and overall health outcome. (3) The findings indicate an inverted U-shaped association between BMI and physical fitness among boys, while girls displayed an inverse relationship. The study was to evaluate the reproducibility and validity of the FFQ for residents of northeast China. A total of 131 participants completed two FFQ (FFQ1 and FFQ2) within a 3-month period, 125 participants completed 8-d weighed diet records (WDR) and 112 participants completed blood biomarker testing. Reproducibility was measured by comparing nutrient and food intake between FFQ1 and FFQ2. The validity of the FFQ was assessed by WDR and the triad method. The Spearman correlation coefficients (SCC) and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for reproducibility ranged from 0·41 to 0·69 (median = 0·53) and from 0·18 to 0·68 (median = 0·53) for energy and nutrients and from 0·37 to 0·73 (median = 0·59) and from 0·33 to 0·86 (median = 0·60) for food groups, respectively. The classifications of same or adjacent quartiles ranged from 73·64 to 93·80 % for both FFQ. The crude SCC between the FFQ and WDR ranged from 0·27 to 0·55 (median = 0·46) for the energy and nutrients and from 0·26 to 0·70 (median = 0·52) for food groups, and classifications of the same or adjacent quartiles ranged from 65·32 to 86·29 %. The triad method indicated that validation coefficients for the FFQ were above 0·3 for most nutrients, which indicated a moderate or high level of validity. Hedonia and eudaimonia have been proposed as pathways to well-being. However, the direction of the causal relationship between them remains unclear. This study examined if happiness motivations may be resources leading to a happy life, or vice versa. Cross-lagged associations between happiness motivations (i.e. hedonic motivation and eudaimonic motivation) and subjective well-being (i.e. positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction) were tested. Four hundred and ninety-four Chinese adolescents (233 males; mean age 13.26 ± 0.70 years) participated in a two-wave paper and pencil study. The cross-lagged analysis showed that eudaimonic motivation was a significant predictor of positive affect and life satisfaction over time. No cross-lagged effects between eudaimonic motivation and negative affect, or between hedonic motivation and subjective well-being components were established. Objective: Ischemic moyamoya (MMD) disease could alter the cerebral structure, but little is known about the topological organization of the structural covariance network (SCN). This study employed structural magnetic resonance imaging and graph theory to evaluate SCN reorganization in ischemic MMD patients. Method: Forty-nine stroke-free ischemic MMD patients and 49 well-matched healthy controls (HCs) were examined by T1-MPRAGE imaging. Structural images were pre-processed using the Computational Anatomy Toolbox 12 (CAT 12) based on the diffeomorphic anatomical registration through exponentiated lie (DARTEL) algorithm and both the global and regional SCN parameters were calculated and compared using the Graph Analysis Toolbox (GAT). Results: Most of the important metrics of global network organization, including characteristic path length (Lp), clustering coefficient (Cp), assortativity, local efficiency, and transitivity, were significantly reduced in MMD patients compared with HCs. In addition, the regional betweenness centrality (BC) values of the bilateral medial orbitofrontal cortices were significantly lower in MMD patients than in HCs after false discovery rate (FDR) correction for multiple comparisons. The BC was also reduced in the left medial superior frontal gyrus and hippocampus, and increased in the bilateral middle cingulate gyri of patients, but these differences were not significant after FDR correlation. No differences in network resilience were detected by targeted attack analysis or random failure analysis. Conclusions: Both global and regional properties of the SCN are altered in MMD, even in the absence of major stroke or hemorrhagic damage. Patients exhibit a less optimal and more randomized SCN than HCs, and the nodal BC of the bilateral medial orbitofrontal cortices is severely reduced. Machine learning methods, especially deep learning models, have achieved impressive performance in various natural language processing tasks including sentiment analysis. However, deep learning models are more demanding for training data. Data augmentation techniques are widely used to generate new instances based on modifications to existing data or relying on external knowledge bases to address annotated data scarcity, which hinders the full potential of machine learning techniques. This paper presents our work using part‐of‐speech (POS) focused lexical substitution for data augmentation (PLSDA) to enhance the performance of machine learning algorithms in sentiment analysis. We exploit POS information to identify words to be replaced and investigate different augmentation strategies to find semantically related substitutions when generating new instances. The choice of POS tags as well as a variety of strategies such as semantic‐based substitution methods and sampling methods are discussed in detail. Performance evaluation focuses on the comparison between PLSDA and two previous lexical substitution‐based data augmentation methods, one of which is thesaurus‐based, and the other is lexicon manipulation based. Our approach is tested on five English sentiment analysis benchmarks: SST‐2, MR, IMDB, Twitter, and AirRecord. Hyperparameters such as the candidate similarity threshold and number of newly generated instances are optimized. Results show that six classifiers (SVM, LSTM, BiLSTM‐AT, bidirectional encoder representations from transformers [BERT], XLNet, and RoBERTa) trained with PLSDA achieve accuracy improvement of more than 0.6% comparing to two previous lexical substitution methods averaged on five benchmarks. Introducing POS constraint and well‐designed augmentation strategies can improve the reliability of lexical data augmentation methods. In recent years, cross‐modal retrieval has been a popular research topic in both fields of computer vision and natural language processing. There is a huge semantic gap between different modalities on account of heterogeneous properties. How to establish the correlation among different modality data faces enormous challenges. In this work, we propose a novel end‐to‐end framework named Dual Multi‐Angle Self‐Attention (DMASA) for cross‐modal retrieval. Multiple self‐attention mechanisms are applied to extract fine‐grained features for both images and texts from different angles. We then integrate coarse‐grained and fine‐grained features into a multimodal embedding space, in which the similarity degrees between images and texts can be directly compared. Moreover, we propose a special multistage training strategy, in which the preceding stage can provide a good initial value for the succeeding stage and make our framework work better. Very promising experimental results over the state‐of‐the‐art methods can be achieved on three benchmark datasets of Flickr8k, Flickr30k, and MSCOCO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Mechanical plaque removal has been commonly accepted to be the basis for periodontal treatment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of ultrasonic and manual subgingival scaling at different initial probing pocket depths (PPD) in periodontal treatment. Methods: English-language databases (PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, Medline, and ClinicalTrials.gov, by January, 2019) were searched. Weighted mean differences in primary outcomes, PPD and clinical attachment loss (CAL) reduction, were estimated by random effects model. Secondary outcomes, bleeding on probing (BOP), gingival recession (GR), and post-scaling residual dental calculus, were analyzed by comparing the results of each study. The quality of RCTs was appraised with the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. The GRADE approach was used to assess quality of evidence. Results: Ten randomized controlled trials were included out of 1434 identified. Initial PPD and follow-up periods formed subgroups. For 3-months follow-up: (1) too few shallow initial pocket studies available to draw a conclusion; (2) the heterogeneity of medium depth studies was so high that could not be merged to draw a conclusion; (3) deep pocket studies showed no statistical differences in PPD and CAL reduction between ultrasonic and manual groups. For 6-months follow-up: (1) too few shallow initial PPD studies to draw a conclusion; (2) at medium pocket depth, PPD reduction showed manual subgingival scaling better than ultrasound. No statistical differences were observed in CAL reduction between the two approaches; (3) for deep initial PPD studies, both PPD and CAL reduction showed manual subgingival scaling better. GR results indicated no statistical differences at medium and deep initial pocket studies between the two methods. BOP results showed more reduction at deep pocket depths with manual subgingival scaling. No conclusion could be drawn about residual dental calculus. Conclusion: When initial PPD was 4-6 mm, PPD reduction proved manual subgingival scaling was superior, but CAL results showed no statistical differences between the two means. Background: Denosumab entered the Chinese market for the first time in 2020. Since it is a short period of time, there is a lack of data on its effectiveness and safety in Chinese people. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of denosumab in delaying skeletal-related events (SREs) in patients with breast cancer metastatic to bone. Methods: The study retrospectively analyzed data from breast cancer patients with bone metastases (BM) who were treated with denosumab in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from September 2020 to January 2022. The primary endpoint was SRE incidence at 1 year after receiving denosumab treatment. The secondary endpoints included time to first on-study SRE and safety. Descriptive analysis was utilized to display clinicopathological features. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the median time to first on-study SRE in total population and subgroups. Logistic regression analysis and χ2 test were employed to determine the potential factors influencing the occurrence of SREs. Results: Fifty breast cancer patients with BM were enrolled in our study, and 54.0% of the patients had 5 or more metastatic bone lesions. After a median follow-up of 17.00 months, 24% of the patients developed SREs at 1 year after receiving denosumab treatment, and the median time to first on-study SREs was not reached. Five or more metastatic bone lesions were an independent risk factor for SRE occurrence (odds ratio = 6.06, 95% CI: 1.09-33.54, P =.039). The adverse events (AEs) associated with denosumab mainly included hypocalcemia (68.0%), periodontitis (28.0%), and myalgia (14.0%). Only 3 cases of grade III/IV AEs were reported, and no serious AEs occurred. Conclusion: Denosumab was effective and well tolerated in Chinese breast cancer patients with BM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
