Background: A novel COVID-19 has spread worldwide and created a big threat for the public and their daily life. Due to its rapid transmission and the mortality rate, governments across the world had created many restrictions such as social isolation which leads to economic crisis that also leads to the source of fear, stress, anxiety, and mood conditions and negatively affects people's mental health (Praveen et al., 2021). Although the initiatives were prepared, the coronavirus may also cause mental defects. These defects also affected the medical students, since they were the backbone and the future of public health, hence the study would describe the quality of well-being by different domains. Materials and Methods: The study was designed by the questionnaire based on the World Health Organization Quality of life-BREL, Subjective Well-Being Inventory (SWBI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) research tool. A total of 288 students were participated in the study. Results: A total of 288 medical students were participated in the study, according Cronbach Alpha method, all three domains had obtained a value of above 0.7, and the descriptive analysis showed the highest score of about 67.12 with physical activity. According to the BAI, 84% of medical students with low anxiety, the study also investigates the quality of well-being and compared with gender, with religion, with family type, place of living, religions, and among family's monthly income. The results of the study were statistically defined, and it has a significant relationship with environment and SWBI. Conclusion: The quality of well-being was assessed on medical students and the study revealed that there is no impact with gender, religion, year of study, and family's monthly income. Background: The pandemic has put at risk the social and emotional development of children on account of the paucity of arenas for social interaction. This study from Kerala, India was conducted to assess the resilience factors, behavioural concerns, psychological distress symptoms among the children aged 3 to 5 years. We also tried to look into the lost opportunities that could have aided the social and emotional development of children like peer interaction, child care hours. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted among the children aged 3 to 5 years. A total of 535 children attending the immunisation clinics were enrolled by consecutive sampling. Devereux Early Childhood Assessment P2 (DECA P2) questionnaire was used to assess the levels of resilient factors and behavioural concerns in the study population. Results: We observed a high proportion of children in the area of need category of protective factors under DECA P2. The proportion of children falling under area of concern was 64.5%, 49%, 68.4% for attachment/relationship, self-regulation, and initiative respectively. 24.9% study subjects have a behavioural concern score that puts them in the area of need category. The logistic regression model we created identified 'Male Gender,' 'Mothers could spend only less time for child care' and 'electronic devices used as pacifier' as significant predictors for belonging to Area of need Behavioural Concerns T score category. Conclusion: A large proportion of children aged between 3 to 5 years with reported behavioural concerns and lack of protective factors for socioemotional development. This can be attributed partly to the ongoing pandemic and its associated restrictions. The increased child care hours invested by parents or grandparents could have sized down the full impact that the pandemic would have had on the socio emotional development of the child. Background: Clinical presentation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mimics many respiratory ailments. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the psychosocial impact of COVID-19 and subsequent state-imposed lockdown on patients presenting with respiratory complaints. Methodology: This was a prospective study on 82 outpatients at a tertiary care institute from North India during the period of strict lockdown. Baseline assessment was conducted using socioclinical pro forma, COVID-19-related questionnaire, lockdown-related questionnaire, and General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12) Hindi version. Reassessment was done twice: immediately and 41–45 days after relaxation of strict lockdown. Quality of life (QOL) at first and second follow-up versus the prelockdown times (Score A and Score C) and first follow-up versus unlockdown (Score B) was noted. Results: Psychological distress was experienced in 45.1% and 17.1% of patients at baseline and first follow-up (P < 0.001). Clinical symptoms, worry for COVID-19, negative thoughts, and total score (lockdown) decreased significantly at first follow-up. The mean C score was significantly better than the mean A score (P < 0.001). Baseline and follow-up psychological distress was significantly more in those with poorer values of total score (lockdown) and its domains. On logistic regression, follow-up GHQ-12 correlated positively with Domain 2 (P = 0.027; odds ratio [OR] = 0.7) and "worry for COVID" (P = 0.017; OR = 10.136). Conclusion: Persons presenting with respiratory complaints and experiencing "worry for COVID-19" at the start of the lockdown were more likely to also experience psychological distress, which decreased significantly but persisted for prolonged periods even after relaxation in lockdown. Policymakers, while indulging in mental health planning in pandemics, should not ignore this issue of development and perpetuation of psychological distress in such otherwise "psychologically normal" individuals. Introduction: Medico-legal post-mortem examinations are performed as mandatory legal procedures for establishing the cause of death for people dying in sudden, suspicious and unnatural circumstances. When COVID-19 came to India and Indian government declared a complete lockdown, the autopsy profile is changed. Aims & Objectives: Demographic study and effect of lockdown on autopsy profile. Methods: The present study is a retrospective study carried out in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, GRMC, Gwalior Madhya Pradesh during the period of 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020 and analysis of a total of 2170 cases, brought to the mortuary for medico-legal autopsy examination. Later on, the effect of lockdown is evaluated on the autopsy profile. Result: The majority of victims were male 1571 (72.4%) cases and female 599 (27.6%) cases. The maximum number of post-mortem done in the age group 21-40 years was 1131 (52.12 %) cases and the minimum in the age group 0-10 year were 56 (02.58%) cases. Manners of death due to natural causes were 170 (07.8%) cases and unnatural 2000 (92.20%) cases. The Indian government declared a complete lockdown on the evening of 24 March 2020 for 21 days, which was further extended with some relaxation. Due to this event; the least number of autopsies was done in April (4.5%) which increased to its normal pattern by the end of June (10.6%). During this period i.e. April; there was a slight decrease in male victims (64.3%) and a slight increase in female victims (35.7%). Conclusion: This study was conducted to determine the effect of lockdown on the autopsy profile. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on human health and has led to social isolation and health implications. In order to optimize public health, it is important to understand the role of social and behavioral sciences, including dietary patterns and lifestyle changes. This study aimed to identify the effect of lockdown on dietary patterns and its association with Body Mass Index (BMI) and lifestyle changes in the older Indian population (aged 60 and above).The study was conducted using an online web-based Google form and 674 participants took part over a one-month period. The k-means algorithm was used to identify non-overlapping dietary patterns and logistic regression was employed to determine the factors associated with changes in dietary patterns. Three dietary patterns were identified: pro-healthy, constant, and unhealthy.During the study, 33.1% of the participants decreased their physical activity while 61.6% increased their screen usage. 26.7% consumed a pro-healthy dietary pattern, while 61.9% consumed an unhealthy dietary pattern. Women reported lower consumption of the pro-healthy pattern (23.8%) and higher consumption of the unhealthy dietary pattern (64.5%) compared to men (30.6% and 58.3%, respectively). Adherence to the pro-healthy dietary pattern was positively associated with age. Participants with a lower BMI were less likely to consume a pro-healthy dietary pattern [AOR: 0.02; CI: 0.01, 0.2]. Those who increased their physical activity were more likely to follow the pro-healthy dietary pattern [AOR: 6.49; CI: 0.76, 55.76]. Those who had less sleep [AOR: 10.22; CI: 1.97, 52.92] and more screen time [AOR: 7.61; CI: 3.28, 17.62] had a higher risk of following an unhealthy dietary pattern.The lockdown had a significant impact on dietary patterns and was associated with unhealthy lifestyle outcomes among older Indian adults. COVID-19 started in 2019 and spread rapidly throughout the world. The pandemic has presented a lot of public health challenges globally. The virus mostly affected the respiratory system, so tobacco consumers (smoke/smokeless) were at a higher risk of developing severe illnesses due to COVID-19. National Tobacco Quit Line Services (NTQLS) plays an important role in tobacco cessation. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was challenging to run these services. There were several challenges faced by the NTQLS during the lockdown. The data from the NTQLS team was retrieved to analyze if the work from home and the pandemic had affected the number of attended calls and quitters during the pandemic (2020) and compared it with before the pandemic (2019). The results showed that before the pandemic, the attended calls were 36.4% whereas, during the pandemic, they were 27%. Quit-date set decreased during the pandemic (29.2%) compared to before the pandemic (41.8%). Furthermore, the number of quitters decreased during the pandemic (27.5%) compared to before the pandemic (35.9%). Telephone counseling is effective in various countries to increase the quit attempts among the individuals during the pandemic, however, these services were jeopardized due to COVID-19 pandemic. In this article, we propose a model (using a simple SIR model) for the analysis of the spread and control of COVID-19 pandemic in India after the subsequent lockdown(s) by taking into account the approach of partial measures, which, in fact, could be a mid-way approach between the two approaches of taking complete measures or no measures. Our supposition of partial measures (which put restrictions on the movements of some age groups) could be an effective protocol in controlling the spread of the coronavirus without hampering economic activities. The analysis has shown that there will be less number of infections after January 2021 by adopting partial measures. Overall, from the study, we have found some encouraging and significant results compared to the others in order to improve the economy of our country keeping the current pandemic in control. Objective: The objective of the study is to examine the impact of school closures on recreational screen time, emotional, and behavioral functioning of school-going children and adolescents during the imposition of social containment measures and school closure in India. Methodology: The survey utilized a Google Form that was sent to parents of children aged 6--14 years through e-mails and social media platforms. Parents were asked to report on the child's duration of recreational screen time and whether the child's overall behavioral functioning had changed since the school closures. The child's emotional and behavioral functioning was assessed by the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The scores on the SDQ and screen time use were compared by overall parental behavioral rating to identify the areas of concerns for children whose functioning was reported to have worsened after the closing of schools. Results: The mean recreational screen time was reported to be 2.65 h (standard deviation = 1.89). A significantly higher proportion of children whose behavior worsened after school closures, relative to those who improved or were same, had scores in the abnormal range of functioning on three of the subscales of SDQ including emotional problems (χ² = 29.03, P = 0.0001), hyperactivity/inattention (χ² = 24.67, P = 0.0001), conduct problems (χ² = 22.01, P = 0.0001), and overall total SDQ score (χ² = 41.20, P = 0.0001). Conclusions: Interventions should be aimed at encouraging outdoor physical activity while respecting government restrictions, healthy routines, pursuing hobbies, and promoting responsible use of electronic devices during the pandemic and crisis recovery period. Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a national lockdown and physical contact was avoided that substantially changed people's lives. The overall impact of lockdown during COVID-19 was negative on the general & mental health of adolescents. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a 25% massive increase in the global prevalence of anxiety and depression. Aims & Objectives: To assess anxiety & depression and their association with socio-demographic factors during the COVID-19 pandemic among school-going adolescents. Methodology: Using two simple random sampling, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 690 school-age adolescents (14 to 19 years) in four Nagar Palikas of the district of Dehradun. The questionnaire includes sociodemographic section, GAD-7, PHQ-2, Modified version of CoPaQ and coping strategies. Result: In study it's been found that more than half of the participants were facing symptoms of anxiety and 58.7% of participants had a major depressive disorder likely. 78% participants used phone and internet f/b watching TV (73.8%) and sleeping (68.1%). Purpose: Lifestyle in the modern era has drastically changed across the globe, and the healthcare profession was no exception. The increased time spent in the virtual space for various purposes, including online classes and webinars, is hypothesized to increase the risk of vision-related disorders such as asthenopia, dry eyes, and visual fatigue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate fusional vergence and ocular accommodation among optometry professionals in a tertiary eye care center during the immediate post-coronavirus disease 2019 (post-COVID-19) lockdown period. Methods: Optometrists posted in the general out-patient department, specialty clinics, and the ocular diagnostics department were included in the study. A total of 65 optometrists were included in the study. All optometrists underwent a comprehensive binocular vision assessment. Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey questionnaires were administered to all optometrists at the beginning of the assessment. Results: Out of 65 optometrists, 48 (73.8%) were women. The mean (standard deviation) age of the participants was 24 (3) years. Eleven (16.9%) optometrists had normal binocular vision parameters, and the rest 54 (83.1%) had non-strabismic binocular vision anomalies. Reduced accommodative facility and convergence insufficiency were seen among 43 (66.2%) optometrists, whereas 30 (46.2%) had reduced accommodative facility alone. Twelve (18.5%) participants were symptomatic as per the convergence insufficiency symptom survey. Conclusion: This study highlights the fact that a large proportion of optometrists have undetected non-strabismic binocular vision anomalies in a tertiary eye care center. It is important for eye care professionals to undergo regular binocular vision assessments in association with ophthalmic examinations and relevant management. Background: The nationwide lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted daily routines, especially for children. Being at home and attending virtual classes unintentionally precipitated an increase in both academic and nonacademic screen time and probably led to decreased physical activity in children. However, there is lack of evidence related to the physical activity and screen time of school-age children during the COVID-19 pandemic. So this study aimed to investigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown on physical activity and screen time of children. Methods: An online survey was used to recruit parents of school-age children through convenience sampling. Parents were asked to compare their child's physical activity and screen time in the previous week with those in the pre-lockdown and lockdown periods. The global physical activity questionnaire was used to assess physical activity, and a screen time questionnaire was developed and validated. Data collection was done from September 2020 to December 2020. Results: Data of 104 children were collected from parents' reports. The average age of parents was 39.1 + 4.8 years for mothers and 40.8 + 6.9 years for fathers. Results revealed a decrease in physical activity from 564.95 min/week before the lockdown to 146.05 min/week during the lockdown, with the absolute decrease of 448.9 min/week. Total screen time increased from 2.42 h/day before the lockdown to 7.41 h/day during the lockdown. Conclusion: Necessary steps to mitigate the effect of COVID-19 pandemic unintentionally affected children in terms of decreased physical activity and increased screen time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Covid-induced lockdowns have increased the importance of technology in education. Though access to technology as well as availability of the internet remain a major concern for a lot of children in the global south, children with intellectual disabilities are disadvantaged even more as most of the e-content is developed keeping in mind the average learner. Unstructured interviews were conducted with children with intellectual disabilities studying in government schools in Haryana as well as their teachers and parents. Thematic analysis of the interviews was conducted to understand the use-patterns of mobile phones by children with intellectual disabilities. Findings suggest that these children are learning to use mobile phones on their own or with some support and are able to navigate the complexities of these smartphones quite well. They use these devices mostly for their entertainment. This paper then reflects on the need and strategies to develop these technologies in ways that they can be used as effective tools for teaching children with intellectual disabilities, especially in the inclusive education system in developing countries. The paper reflects on the need to develop technology and tools using flexible and exploratory designs to enhance the learning processes for children with intellectual disabilities from the lower income strata. This study highlights the importance of being able to use mobile phones by children with intellectual disabilities belonging to low income families. Following this, the article argues for designing of mobile phones suitable for use by children with intellectual disabilities using playfulness and explorations, and Building e-content keeping the elements of playfulness and exploration which can enhance the learnings of this group of students which is often ignored. Background and Aim: Food item that has little nutritive value, high fat, and sugar content with little to no fiber content is labeled as junk food. The objective of the study is to assess the patterns of consumption of junk food among young adults and to explore the reasons for junk food consumption among young adults. Materials and Methods: Mixed method study consisting of quantitative phase involving interviews with 116 students from a Medical College using a semi-structured, validated questionnaire circulated through Google Forms followed by an depth interview of 10 participants for qualitative phase. Results: In the study, it was observed that (62.2%) eat junk food during snack time. Students staying with friends (35.3%) consumed more junk food compared to the ones staying with family (13.8%). The most common reasons for junk food consumption were its good taste (77.6%) and (68.1%) convenience. It is observed that maximum consumption of junk food is seen when meeting their friends (70.7%) and on special occasions (61.2%). French fries (69.8%) were the most common junk food consumed although (76.7%) felt that junk food is unhealthy. The qualitative interview also supported the findings that the most common reasons for junk food consumption were craving, inexpensive, taste, and poor taste of hostel food. Conclusion: The above study concluded that majority of the students consumed junk food when staying with friends and due to its good taste and convenience and to spend quality time with their family and on special occasions. Introduction: Maharashtra, India, remained a hotspot during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the initial complete lockdown, the state slowly relaxed restrictions. We aim to estimate the lockdown's impact on COVID-19 cases and associated healthcare costs. Methods: Using daily case data for 84 days (9 March–31 May 2020), we modeled the epidemic's trajectory and predicted new cases for different phases of lockdown. We fitted log-linear models to estimate the growth rate, basic (R0), daily reproduction number (Re), and case doubling time. Based on pre-restriction and Phase 1 R0, we predicted new cases for the rest of the restriction phases, and we compared them with the actual number of cases during each phase. Furthermore, using the published and gray literature, we estimated the costs and savings of implementing these restrictions for the projected period, and we performed a sensitivity analysis. Results: The estimated median R0 during the different phases was 1.14 (95% CI: 0.85, 1.45) for pre-lockdown, 1.67 (95% CI: 1.50, 1.82) for phase 1 (strict mobility restrictions), 1.24 (95% CI: 1.12, 1.35) for phase 2 (extension of phase 1 with no restrictions on agricultural and essential services), 1.12 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.23) for phase 3 (extension of phase 2 with mobility relaxations in areas with few infections), and 1.05 (95% CI: 0.99, 1.123) for phase 4 (implementation of localized lockdowns in high-case-load areas with fewer restrictions on other areas), respectively. The corresponding doubling time rate for cases (in days) was 17.78 (95% CI: 5.61, −15.19), 3.87 (95% CI: 3.15, 5.00), 10.37 (95% CI: 7.10, 19.30), 20.31 (95% CI: 10.70, 212.50), and 45.56 (95% CI: 20.50, –204.52). For the projected period, the cases could have reached 631,819 without the lockdown, as the actual reported number of cases was 64,975. From a healthcare perspective, the estimated total value of averted cases was INR 194.73 billion (USD 2.60 billion), resulting in net cost savings of 84.05%. The Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER) per Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) for implementing the lockdown, rather than observing the natural course of the pandemic, was INR 33,812.15 (USD 450.83). Conclusion: Maharashtra's early public health response delayed the pandemic and averted new cases and deaths during the first wave of the pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic led to prolonged home confinement for children and adolescents due to national lockdowns, resulting in school closures and the suspension of rehabilitation services. These measures aimed to curb the virus's spread but caused significant psychosocial distress among caregivers of adolescents with intellectual disability (ID). Objectives: This study aims to assess the psychosocial distress among caregivers of adolescents with ID, explore the coping strategies employed by these caregivers during the lockdown, and evaluate the impact of psychosocial interventions on caregivers of adolescents with ID. Material & Methods: A prospective pre and post-intervention study without a control group was conducted using consecutive sampling method. Fifteen caregivers of adolescents with ID registered at Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Chandigarh participated. Caregivers with a score of 20 or more on the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) were included with their consent. Assessments were conducted using the Socio-demographic and Clinical Data Sheet, Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PAT), and Brief Cope scale. Psychosocial interventions were provided, followed by post-assessment with K10 and PAT scales over five video call sessions. Ethical clearance and Clinical Trials Registry India (CTRI) registration were obtained before starting the study. Data were analysed using SPSS 16, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used to compare pre and post-intervention results. Results: Significant reductions in psychological distress were observed across all domains post-intervention, including nervousness, restlessness, sadness, tiredness, hopelessness, and feelings of worthlessness (p < .01 for some and p < .001 for others). Conclusions: Despite the small sample size, the study suggests that psychosocial interventions effectively reduce psychological distress and related psychosocial issues among caregivers of adolescents with ID. Background: The lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the lives of vulnerable population, including the injecting drug users (IDUs). The objective of the study was to document the coping mechanism adopted by IDUs and suggest measures to mitigate the adverse effects, if similar situation were to arise in future. Materials and Methods: A qualitative study was conducted at the Targeted Intervention Non-Government Organizations catering to IDUs in Delhi and Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Four focus group discussions among 41 IDUs and 7 key informant interviews of the NGO staff were conducted in the study. The Hindi recordings were coded and the data analysis was performed manually using grounded theory approach. Results: We found that the lockdown affected the lives of most of the IDUs and they found it difficult to access the harm reduction services. To cope with this, many IDUs started following alternate methods to support the drug habits. There was an increase in reuse of needles and syringes. Conclusion: The lockdown during COVID-19 and the resulting challenges negatively impacted the physical and mental health of the IDUs. We recommend that in any similar future scenario, travel pass may be issued to the IDUs and the TI-NGO personnel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: During the unexpected lockdown implemented in early 2020 in reaction to the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a considerable section of India's population of migrant construction-site workers were stuck. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to explore the lived experiences and consequent perceptions of migrant workers related to the COVID-19 lockdown and the consequences on their lives. METHODS: We conducted structured in-depth interviews (IDIs) with twelve migrant construction-site workers in Bhavnagar, Western India, from November to December 2020, using qualitative research methods. All IDIs were conducted with participant's consent, audio-recorded, transcribed in English, inductively coded, and thematically analyzed. RESULTS: The primary financial challenges mentioned by the migrant workers in the interviews were unemployment, monetary issues, and a difficult sustenance. The social concerns were described as anxious migrant exodus, discrimination, mistreatment, lack of social assistance, inability to fulfil their family's expectations, lack of safe transportation arrangements by the authorities during the exodus, inadequacies in the public distribution system, law and order, and apathy of their employers. The psychological repercussions were described using terms like "fear," "worry," "loneliness," "boredom," "helplessness," and "trapped." Monetary compensation, job opportunities at the native place, and a well-managed migrant exodus were reportedly their key expectations from the government. Objectives: The present study aims to assess the prevalence and predictors of smartphone addiction and insomnia among nurses working in the outpatient department (OPD) after the second wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out among 117 OPD nurses between October and December 2021 using a purposive sampling technique. Two self-reported standardized scales, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version and Insomnia Severity Index were used. Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Mann–Whitney U, and Kruskal–Wallis H test were used. Pearson's correlation and Scatter plot were used to determine the relationship between the study variables. A stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was also performed. Results: The majority of participants had slight smartphone addiction (78.6%) and suffered from sub-threshold to severe forms of insomnia (73.5%). A significant mild positive correlation was found between smartphone addiction and insomnia (r = 0.195, P < 0.05). Stepwise multivariate logistic regression analysis predicted factors such as female gender and exposure to smartphones for more than 5 years influencing smartphone addiction. A strong influence of exposure to the smartphone for more than 5 years was found on insomnia severity. Conclusion: Smartphone addiction and insomnia were identified problems among nurses working in the OPD after the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring an urgent need to identify and manage various factors responsible for smartphone addiction and insomnia such as female gender and years of exposure to smartphones. This study aims to examine the influence of environmental performance (PM2.5) on COVID-19 intensity. For this purpose, we employ the newly introduced Hidden Panel Cointegration test and Nonlinear Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag model. Results indicate the asymmetric linkages between PM2.5 and COVID-19 intensity, as the positive shock in PM2.5 raises the COVID-19 intensity by 21%, whereas the negative shock in PM2.5 decreases COVID-19 intensity by 12% in long-run. On the contrary, the positive shock in stringency measures decreases COVID-19 intensity by 42.8%, while the negative shock in stringency policy increases COVID-19 intensity by 66.7%. These findings imply that higher pollution increases the COVID-19 severity while higher stringency measures slow down people's movement and reduce COVID-19 intensity. However, a sudden negative shock in lockdown increases people's interaction, leading to a higher spread of the virus. Background: COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic in March 2020. Government of India declared a countrywide lockdown on 24 March 2020. All elective surgeries including Hip and Knee arthroplasty were postponed in view of pandemic. Gradually cases were resumed after stepwise unlock measures. The aim of this study is to assess how hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries were affected during first wave of pandemic, and how situation was tackled by an arthroplasty unit of a tertiary-care hospital in India. Methods: This study was a single-centre retrospective observational study. Data pertaining to patient demographic details, surgery, preoperative screening for COVID-19, duration of hospital stay, and post-op 30-day complications were collected from hospital records and analyzed. These data were compared with 2019 data. Results: There was significant decrease (88.45%) in total number of hip and knee arthroplasty cases between March 2020 and November 2020 as compared to the same duration in 2019. 30-day mortality was only 2 deaths both who died due to COVID-19-related complications. Duration of stay in hospital and post-operative complications were not statistically and significantly affected. There was a statistically significant increase in tourniquet time compared to the previous year. If deaths due to COVID-19 are excluded, there was statistically no significance difference in 30-day mortality rate. Conclusion: Following strict local policy for patient selection and reducing the number of post-operative patient visits to the hospital allowed us to perform hip and knee arthroplasty safely with minimum COVID-19-related mortality and morbidity. Background and Objective: Healthcare providers (HCPs) were vital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The healthcare providers affected by COVID-19 underwent various life changing events while continuing their profession during the pandemic. This study is aimed to explore the lived-in experiences of HCPs affected by COVID-19 at a tertiary care Mental Health Institute in India. Materials and Methods: The sampling method was purposive. Twenty two HCPs (eight nursing educators, seven nursing officers, five contractual cleaning workers, and two laboratory technicians) participated in the interviews conducted by the researchers to obtain the lived-in experiences of HCPs who have recovered from COVID-19. Researchers used a sociodemographic form and an interview guide to collect the data. Interviews were audio recorded and analyzed by using Atlas-ti-9 software. Results: All the participants were female, and they revealed various physical, psychological, and social issues faced by HCPs while balancing home and workplace. Thematic data analysis resulted in the emergence of two themes and 11 subthemes related to life changing events. Conclusion: The findings concluded that although the healthcare providers had working experience in the field of mental health, they too experienced mild psychological issues like anxiety, depression, and fear of death because of this pandemic situation. Based on in‐depth interviews with 24 middle‐class Indian child participants, this is the first exploratory qualitative study, in India, to demonstrate the ways in which children as reflexive social actors re‐negotiated everyday schedules, drew on classed resources at their disposal and made sense of the impact of the pandemic on their educational pathways and future aspirations. These narratives offer a unique lens on the politics of middle‐classness and its constitutive relation to constructions of normative childhoods in contemporary India. Study findings contribute to the sociology of Indian childhood and more generally help enrich our understanding of southern childhoods and the reproduction of inequalities in contemporary India. Introduction: Health officials were forced to impose a lockdown because of the COVID-19 epidemic as a method of epidemiological containment. Objectives: This study was designed to medical student's sleep quality and dietary habits during the pandemic in erode district of Tamil Nadu. Methods: Through the voluntary completion of an online questionnaire, a cross-sectional study was carried out using a random representative sample of 263 MBBS medical students from Erode Medical College in Tamil Nadu (mean age 19.63 + 1.86 years, men 33.46%). To evaluate sleep quality and associated food habit components, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and eating habits questionnaire were employed. Results: Participants in the study had a mean PSQI score of 5.17 ± 3.6 students who are underweight and weigh <50 kg perform better on sleep tests. 43.3% of individuals reported having poor sleep quality (males: 44.32%; females: 42.86%). The mean eating habits of men and women did not differ in a way that was statistically significant (P = 0.27). High body weight and body mass index (BMI) among students are risk factors for eating disorders. While 54% of students engaged in daily light exercise, 46% of students engaged in no physical activity. Lockdown caused psychological discomfort for 66.16% of the individuals. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that a COVID-19 lockout has a negative impact on young undergraduate medical adults' physical activity and sleep quality. The most frequent exposures that were associated with an increased risk of sleep issues and eating disorders were bodyweight, BMI, monthly family income, and poor physical activity with excessive eating during the COVID-19 lockdown. BACKGROUND: During the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, academicians were juggling their personal and professional life amid lockdown while trying to deliver maximum knowledge through online classes. This chronic stress is emotionally draining and can eventually lead to burnout. OBJECTIVE: To examine the levels of perceived stress and burnout and examine the effects of self-efficacy and coping in reducing stress and preventing burnout in academicians during the COVID-19 lockdown. METHODS: This survey included 63 physiotherapy academicians from various physiotherapy colleges in India. Assessments used to collect data were the Perceived Stress Scale, Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, General Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Brief Resilient Coping Scale. The data was collected through Google Forms and sent through an online mode via various social media apps. RESULTS: This study revealed that the majority of the physiotherapy academicians were experiencing moderate levels of stress eventually leading to burnout. Stress levels were higher in academicians with more than 10 years of experience. Also, self-efficacy and resilient coping were negatively correlated with perceived stress and burnout. The recent outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is the worst global crisis. Since no successful treatment and vaccine have been reported, efforts to improve the public's knowledge, attitudes, and practices are critical to reducing the spread of COVID-19. This study aims to investigate the general public knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding COVID-19. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in three developing countries (China, India, and Pakistan). The reason for choosing only three countries is to identify the cross-border effect statistically and data collection constraints. The IBM SPSS version 23.0 was used for descriptive, univariate, and multivariate analysis of the study. One thousand one hundred and sixty participants completed the study, one-quarter of them were female, and three-quarters were male. The study's findings evidenced that the knowledge and attitude correlation was 58.4% and between knowledge and practices 18.2%. Furthermore, the knowledge was found lower in females, among India and Pakistan, and people aged less and equivalent to 30 years. The attitudes among respondents were found poorer among unmarried females and India and Pakistan residents. While the practices found lower among employed, unemployed and, respondents had a bachelor's degree, and females reside in India. And future studies should focus on factors that influence the government regarding the imposition of lockdown, boost the economy in the pandemic, and motivate the general public to follow the health institution's instructions. INTRODUCTION Measures to address the COVID-19 pandemic in India included a ban on the sale and use of tobacco products during 2020 when stay at home guidance (lockdown) was in place. In this study we examined the extent of reduction in frequency of tobacco consumption across all products. METHODS Telephone survey was conducted between July and August 2020 across an existing cohort of tobacco users (n=801) residing in Delhi (55.4%) and Chennai (44.6%), India. The participants were recruited irrespective of their gender and use of any kind of tobacco product(s). The survey questionnaire was based on the STOP (Studying Tobacco users Of Pakistan) survey and adapted to the context of smoking and smokeless tobacco use in India. RESULTS Cigarette consumption declined from a median value of 5.0 (IQR: 2-10) sticks in the pre-lockdown period to 2.0 (IQR: 0.4-5) sticks during the lockdown period. Reductions were reported in the daily use of bidis, from 8 (IQR: 4-12) sticks to 5 (IQR: 2-10) sticks and for smokeless tobacco users from 3.5 (IQR: 2-5) packs to 2 (IQR: 1-4) packs during the lockdown. Furthermore, the number of daily cigarette smokers in our cohort decreased from 32.6% (n=261) in the pre-lockdown period to 27.5% (n=220) during lockdown and smokeless tobacco users decreased from 35.8% (n=287) in pre-lockdown period to 30.3% (n=243) during the lockdown period. CONCLUSIONS The decrease in tobacco use can be attributed to various societal and environmental factors. However, the pandemic-linked lockdown provided an opportune condition to reduce the use of tobacco products, which could be due to restricted access and increase in health awareness during the COVID-19 lockdown. This article uses nationally representative household survey data between June 2019 and 2020 from India to examine changes in household consumption expenditure following the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. We find that across rural and urban households, there was a strong reduction in overall expenditures, in particular, related to food and health. This corroborates findings from existing literature on food insecurity during the first lockdown in India (March–April 2020) and provides the first set of estimates on changes in health expenditure for this period. Although there were expansions to health insurance and subsidized COVID-related healthcare costs in India, our findings likely do not reflect this. This investigation purports to study if gratitude interventions lead to an increase in overall wellbeing among Indian youth during the coronavirus lockdown. Second, to examine if a cumulative effect of two gratitude interventions on wellbeing is greater than a single gratitude intervention. Participants (N = 80) were randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups (n = 40 each). It was found that after administering a single gratitude intervention there was a significant increase in mental health, happiness, and gratitude and a decrease in depression, anxiety, and stress in the experimental group. Moreover, after administering two gratitude interventions together, a greater increase was seen in these variables as compared to the administration of a single gratitude intervention. There was no significant change in the control group in both cases. In summary, online gratitude interventions lead to increase in happiness and mental health and decrease in depression, anxiety, and stress even during crises such as the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, the cumulative effect of two gratitude interventions is more than a single gratitude intervention. Background: Tobacco use is one of the major preventable causes of death and disability worldwide. Tobacco use is detrimental at any time. However, it is proving to be more dangerous during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tobacco use may increase the risk of being infected, increases the chances of complications, and also increases the probability of its spread. We assessed the awareness about this association and the impact of the lockdown on tobacco use among current tobacco users of Government Medical College, Gujarat. Aims and Objectives: Our aims and objective of the study is to assess the awareness about the association and the impact of the lockdown on tobacco use among current tobacco users (employees) of Government Medical College, Gujarat. Methodology: A study was conducted among 173 tobacco users (Class 3 & Class 4) of Government Medical College, Gujarat using simple random sampling technique. They were under active follow-up in their course of the 10-month counselling program from January 2020 to November 2020. The data was collected using pretested close ended questionnaire. The analysis was done using the SPSS statistical package Ethical approval was taken from the Institute Ethical Committee. Written informed consents were taken from all the respondents. Appropriate statistical test was used. Result: Two-thirds (68%) of tobacco users were unaware of the association between tobacco and COVID-19. Out of the 173 current tobacco users, 49 tobacco users quit tobacco during the lockdown period; out of which 51% quit because of the unavailability and increased prices of tobacco products and rest because of lockdown and their concern over COVID-19. The extent of Conclusion: awareness about the association of tobacco and COVID-19 influenced the tobacco users to stop tobacco use. Introduction: Policy decisions on containment of commercial activity to control the spread of COVID-19 SARS may influence urban air quality. Methodology: A methodological approach has been proposed to explore the relationship that exists between the policy decisions on six criteria pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, SO2, Ozone, NO2, and CO). This study also explores the knowledge/association that exists between the climatic variables, criteria pollutants, inhalation exposure dose levels and its vulnerable population age group and gender. The methodology explores a mixed urban cluster, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, INDIA. Results: From the results, PM10, PM2.5, SO2 and CO has reduced to about 31%, 42%, 26% and 29% during phase-I, whereas NO2 (66%) and Ozone (14%) has increased. It is inferred that the reduced criteria pollutant load (during the phase I, II, and III) gets dispersed taking the advantage of geographical location. Background The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) covers Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. We conducted a comparative analysis of the trade-off between the health policies for the prevention of COVID-19 spread and the impact of these policies on the economies and livelihoods of the South Asia populations. Methods We analyzed COVID-19 data on epidemiology, public health and health policy, health system capacity, and macroeconomic indicators from January 2020 to March 2021 to determine temporal trends by conducting joinpoint regression analysis using average weekly percent change (AWPC). Results Bangladesh had the highest statistically significant AWPC for new COVID-19 cases (17.0; 95% CI = 7.7-27.1, P < 0.001), followed by the Maldives (12.9; 95% CI = 5.3-21.0, P < 0.001) and India (10.0; 95% CI = 8.4-11.5, P < 0.001). The AWPC for COVID-19 deaths was significant for India (6.5; 95% CI = 4.3-8.9, P < 0.001) and Bangladesh (6.1; 95% CI = 3.7-8.5, P < 0.001). Nepal (55.79%), and India (34.91%) had the second- and third-highest increase in unemployment, while Afghanistan (6.83%) and Pakistan (16.83%) had the lowest. The rate of change of real GDP had the highest decrease for Maldives (557.51%), and India (297.03%); Pakistan (46.46%) and Bangladesh (70.80%), however, had the lowest decrease. The government response stringency index for Pakistan had a see-saw pattern with a sharp decline followed by an increase in the government health policy restrictions that approximated the test-positivity trend. Conclusions Unlike developed economies, the South Asian developing countries experienced a trade-off between health policy and their economies during the COVID-19 pandemic. South Asian countries (Nepal and India), with extended periods of lockdowns and a mismatch between temporal trends of government response stringency index and the test-positivity or disease incidence, had higher adverse economic effects, unemployment, and burden of COVID-19. Pakistan demonstrated targeted lockdowns with a rapid see-saw pattern of government health policy response that approximated the test-positivity trend and resulted in lesser adverse economic effects, unemployment, and burden of COVID-19. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to analyze the profile of outpatient department (OPD) attendance of a tertiary care hospital during pre- and post-pandemic lockdown period. Materials and Methods: All consecutive patients presenting to OPD from August 1, 2019 to November 23, 2020 were included in the study. The sample was divided into Zone R (Regular domain) and Zone L (Lockdown domain). Zone L was divided into three groups A, B, and C; representing attendance to be <30%, 30-60%, and >60% of previous (i.e., Zone R), respectively. The patient gender, intradepartmental, and inter departmental OPD attendance data were collected and analyzed. Results: n = 428,322 patients attended the OPD in the study period. 301,586 patients presented in Zone R and 126,736 presented in Zone L (P = 0.000). Zone L recorded an OPD attendance drop to 42% of Zone R. The least attended an OPD (Group A) was ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, surgery, and orthopedics versus highest attendance (Group C) was noticed in emergency OPD and oncology with a moderate decline in the rest (P = -0.00, 0.00, and 0.00, respectively). Both male and female attendance in the OPD showed a decline; however, the gender divide was apparent with significantly low women attendance in all the departments (P = 0.00). Conclusion: OPD attendance showed a significant reduction in COVID lockdown era hitting the non-emergent medical branches the most. The gender divide significantly widened with less female attendance recorded in most OPDs in pandemic lockdown. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused unprecedented harm to humanity and economies worldwide. A study of economic impact of COVID-19 patients in urban slums is limited. Aims: Hence, this study was undertaken to estimate the out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE), and compare amongst admissions in public and private hospitals and home isolation of COVID-19 patients. Patients and Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in urban slums under the urban field practice area of a medical college between September 2021 and November 2021. Data from 108 COVID-19 patients were collected by a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire by interview method. Results: The mean age of respondents was 41.99 ± 10.49. The most common symptom was fever 91.6%, followed by cough 69.4%. History of travel was present in 64% and contact with family member was 69%. The mean OOPE for COVID-19 disease was 36756 INR per patient. Overall, the mean direct cost for COVID-19 admission was 29143 INR and mean indirect cost was 7529.62 INR. On applying Krushkal Wallis test, OOPE for direct cost on COVID-19 patient hospital admission, lab investigations, medications was H=65.85, 53.52, 28.98 with P value< 0.05 respectively and was found statististically significant. Similarly for Indirect cost , Loss of wages, travel expenses of the patient and attenders was H=10.45, 31.23 respectively and was found to be statistically significant at P <0.05. Overall the mean direct cost with government, private, home isolation COVID-19 patients was highly significant χ2 = 33.92, P = 0.000, and mean indirect cost χ2 = 9.48, P = 0.002. Conclusions: The OOPE for COVID-19 disease was high. The direct and indirect cost in government facility was minimal. Background: Lockdown measures are being implemented in several parts of the world to control the spread of novel coronavirus. This unprecedented crisis has significantly affected the lives of people in different ways. Aim: To understand the experiences and vulnerability to mental health problems during lockdown among the Indian population during COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey form circulated through various social media platforms from April 12 to May 3, 2020 containing self-reported questionnaires to collect lockdown related experiences and scales to assess anxiety (GAD-7) and depression (PHQ-9). A convenience sampling method was used. Results: 442 valid responses were received from different states of India. Statistical analysis revealed that one-third of the respondents suffered from some form of anxiety and depression during a lockdown. Less than 10% of them had severe levels of symptoms. The majority were males aged 18 to 45 years and private sector employees. Delivering essential services was involved with significant anxiety and depression. Availability of food and daily essentials was the most common problem. Difficulty in availing medicines and financial crisis were significant predictors of anxiety and depression. Worsening of interpersonal relationships was associated with higher levels of anxiety and depression. Conclusions: The study concluded that experiences during the lockdown and associated psychological outcomes are important factors to consider and appropriate preventive measures to be taken in case of any future lockdowns. The COVID-19 has caused significant public health chaos. Whether infected or uninfected, people have reported significant mental health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study explored symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress of uninfected people with the disease over three time periods. A total of 132 participants took part in all the three phases. Data at Time 1 and Time 2 were collected during the national lockdown with 1 month apart, while data at Time 3 were collected immediately once the lockdown was uplifted in India. Participants completed the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 online. The results indicated that despite an increase in the average number of COVID-19 cases, depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms decreased over time with the lowest level once the lockdown was ended. Introduction: Nationwide lockdown during COVID-19 pandemic, rapid transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and more intense second wave of pandemic in terms of high caseload, reduced essential supplies and scarcity of beds, and unpredictable mortality had a huge impact on mental health of general population. Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and determine the factors of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among the general population of India during the second wave of pandemic. Methodology: An online survey was conducted to estimate the prevalence and assess the factors responsible for PTSD among 614 participants who were above 18 years of age. The prevalence of PTSD was measured using PTSD checklist for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder-5 (DSM-5). Results: In the present study, there were a total of 614 participants and the mean age of the participants was 23.64 years. More than half of the participants were female and majority of them were unmarried (76.7%). The prevalence of PTSD was 30.62%. A significant association was observed between occupation and PTSD prevalence. Also, COVID-19 illness, COVID-19 infection among the family members, work outside the home, hospital admissions, difficulty in acquiring the required medication were significantly associated with PTSD. Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown led to increased prevalence of psychological effects like PTSD. This highlights the importance of focusing on mental health during the pandemic. Background: Telepsychiatry has grown exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As regular outpatient services were shut down, we initiated a telephonic follow-up consultation for geropsychiatry patients who have had their first face-to-face consultation up to 2 months before the pandemic-induced lockdown with the intent to maintain the continuity of care. Methods: In this background, we are reporting our experience of this unique initiative, in terms of acceptance of service, status of patients, adherence to treatment, and barriers to care. Results: We could contact 120 patients, among whom 8 patients had died at the time of the call. Consent for tele follow-up was given by 108 patients, whose mean age was 68.76 ± 7.22 years. Sixteen patients needed urgent referrals for face-to-face consultation. Medical comorbidities were present in 56.48% of the patients. Adherence was good in 60.78% and 93.44% for psychotropic and nonpsychotropic medications, respectively. Unavailability of psychiatric consultation as well as psychotropic medicines in the locality along with lack of awareness were the major reasons for poor adherence. Clinician-initiated teleconsultation was opted as the preferred mode for the next consultation by 70.37% of patients. Conclusion: Clinician-initiated telephonic follow-up was well received. This initiative has uncovered hurdles to care and unmet needs of geropsychiatry patients in such unprecedented situation and would help in improving the preparedness in future. Background: The nationwide lockdown following the COVID-19 pandemic tremendously impacted the medical teaching-learning process. This study aimed to assess medical teachers' perceptions about various aspects of online teaching-learning during the lockdown. Methods: A survey questionnaire was developed using Google Forms and emailed to medical teachers in India. Responses were analyzed and their significance was assessed using a chi-square test with an alpha of 0.05. Results: Out of 294 eligible responses, 70% belonged to deemed universities. 42.86% of teachers were preclinical, 23.81% paraclinical and 33.33% belonged to clinical subjects. Overall, 93.88% of faculty felt online teaching is time-consuming and 92.52% felt face-to-face classes are better. Almost 52% of faculties were reluctant to continue online classes after the lockdown. Approximately 53% of teachers believed that the maximum number of students would have utilized this facility, but still, a significant number of teachers were uncertain whether students would have benefited this activity. A significantly greater number of preclinical and paraclinical teachers conducted both theory and practical examinations as well as viva examinations, whereas clinical teachers primarily conducted theory examinations. Only 21.77% of teachers were satisfied with the conduct of examinations. Conclusion: Medical teachers have adapted themselves to teaching online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Google Classroom was the most preferred platform and live synchronous classes were the most preferred choice for delivering the classes. Most of the faculty perceived that online teaching was time-consuming. They were skeptical about the active involvement of students in this process. Background: Within a paternalistic culture where weight is socially important and parental pressures are strong, 10 female Indian university students across various countries faced particular problems when living with their parents during the Covid‐19 lockdowns. Objective: The current interview study examines why cultural and familial factors during the Covid‐19 lockdown had such an impact on female Indian university students' food and exercise behaviors and self‐view. Method: Semi‐structured, online (Microsoft Teams) interviews were conducted with 10 female Indian university students aged 20–23, who had moved back in with their parents during lockdown. The recorded and transcribed interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis with a contextualist orientation. Results: Five themes were generated. Set within a context where eating and exercise habits are regulated by cultural and familial factors (Theme 1), lockdown living situations amplified these factors (Theme 2), severely impacting students' cognitions and affect (Theme 3), and relationships with their parents (Theme 4) even after lockdown was over. Participants' experiences led to greater awareness and motivation to confront their issues regarding body image and mental health (Theme 5). Conclusions: These findings have practical implications for counseling and eating disorder (ED) therapy in universities: Improved understanding of cultural and familial factors that affect female Indian students likely leads to better support. Our findings also emphasizes the need for research into the role of family and the impacts of family dynamics in the development of disordered eating habits. Public Significance: In Indian culture, eating and exercise habits tend to be regulated by cultural and familial factors. When female university students moved back in with their parents during the Covid‐19 lockdowns, their living situation amplified these factors, severely impacting students' thoughts and feelings about their body, and relationships with their parents even after lockdown was over. World is suffering from a pandemic situation due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since December 2019. In this emergency, everyone at individual/country/global level is trying to contribute at their best with their available knowledge and resources. However, more and more research and developmental activities are going on but, the reality is far away for a grass-root level health professional. They rely on the indirect sources, that is, published or unpublished literature, social media, internet etc. Many a time, these sources may share an unrealistic or false positive/negative information. Our study was intended to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices related to COVID-19 among the healthcare professionals of different levels. We conducted an online survey after the initiation of the first lockdown in India. Our research team in consultation with the subject experts designed a mix method-based study tool and shared it by sending emails to 1,200 participants. A total of 180 respondents participated in the online survey of which 34% were government health professionals and 24% were working with a research/academic institution. All participants were between 23 and 74 years age group (mean 39 years). Participants shared their views on first, knowledge about symptoms, preventive measures and treatment options for COVID-19. Second, on attitude towards handling COVID-19 pandemic using social distancing, following lockdown and travel advisory, etc. Third, on the practice of non-pharmaceutical measures to prevent COVID-19. We found that the social media platform acted as one of the most important platforms for awareness generation regarding COVID-19 but it was also generating stigma among people. Till the time of the survey, there is still a dearth of knowledge about social distancing and what it means, especially physical distance of 1–3 metres and correct usage of mask in different situations. Various important issues pertaining to infant feeding practices, mother and childcare and disposal of dead bodies of COVID infected persons require deliberations and awareness. Self-realization or the path which involves the elaborate process of knowing oneself leads people to a meaningful and fulfilling life. The present study aims to examine how the COVID-19-led lockdown proved to be an opportunity for emerging adults to reflect on and eventually discover their true selves. This study particularly explores the factors that facilitated the self-realization process during the lockdown. An online survey was conducted on 1280 Indian university students. The age of participants ranged between 18 and 29 years. An eight-item scale was developed to measure self-realization during the lockdown, which was thereafter administered along with other study variables. The results showed that factors including family bonding, social comparison, self-image, and a positive orientation toward life help young adults in the process of self-realization. Furthermore, the participants who employed adaptive ways to cope with the COVID-19 stress reported higher levels of self-realization. The present study showed that the interaction of young adults with their significant others, solving their daily problems, and having a positive outlook toward themselves and the future, helped them during the COVID-19 imposed lockdown and led them on the path of self-realization. Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic-caused burden among the pediatric age group was less in terms of severity and mortality; indirect impacts of the pandemic on the mental health of children are huge and largely unnoticed. The main objective of this exploratory study was to analyze the association between screen time exposures among preschool children aged 3-6 years during the lockdown period in Tamil Nadu, India. Materials and Methods: An exploratory and anonymous population-based e-survey through social networks, including social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp) and researchers' acquaintances (email), using a snowball sampling strategy was conducted among parents of preschool children (aged 3-6 years) residing in different states of Tamil Nadu. Data were collected using Google Forms, and statistical, analysis was conducted. Results: Among 427 study participants, the mean age of screen introduction was 19.88 ± 11.73 months, and the mean age of independent operation of screen devices was 3.29 ± 1.16 years. Demanding extra attention (25.53%), temper tantrums (21.31%), increased aggressiveness (19.90%), more fussy (18.74%), altered night sleep (18.5%), and clinging (18.27%) were the frequently reported behavioral changes apart from increased screen time (60.88%) and decreased physical activity (28.80%) during the lockdown period. Conclusion: Excessive screen time beyond the recommended 1 h/day was seen in 94.1% of children, and screen exposure was inversely correlated with the duration of outdoor play. Among the behavioral changes, temper tantrums and fussiness were found to be significantly associated with increased recreational screen time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: During the initial phase of COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the schools and educational institutions were closed countrywide. Hence, more than 90% of students admitted to educational institutions worldwide are affected as 188 countries have implemented COVID restrictions. Hence, this study focuses on the health status of adolescent students during the shutdown of educational institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim and Objective: This study assesses mental health, dental health, eye health, physical activity, immunization, and nutrition in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic among adolescent boys and girls. Materials and Methods: The current cross-sectional study was done among school-going adolescent children. One hundred and eighty students from different syllabus systems and urban and rural parts of north Kerala participated. The data collected were entered into an excel sheet and analyzed using the SPSS software. Results: 59.4% of students have gained weight due to sedentary behaviour. Students spend more time in front (95%) of a digital screen, leading to computer vision syndrome. Loss of social interactions adversely affected students' mental health by 37.8%. Thirty percentage of physically active students were involved in indoor physical activities such as Zumba and aerobics. In addition, 77% of students have not taken their routine immunization. Conclusion: The newer learning methods have impacted the students' knowledge. There is no uniformity in the form of teaching. Aim: To find out variation in hospital attendance and admission for various infectious diseases (IDs) during the national lockdown as compared to prelockdown era. Materials and Methods: This observational descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at a state-level ID hospital in West Bengal. Data related to the turnout of ID patients at the hospital outpatient department and indoor admission during the lockdown and unlock phases of 2020 were collected by review of hospital records and compared with the pre-COVID period of 2019. Collected data were entered into an MS Excel sheet, and analysis was performed by SPSS 20.0. Results: Since April 2020, inpatient and outpatient turnout has gone far below the similar months of 2019. Outpatient consultation, indoor admission, anti-rabies clinic attendance, and childhood immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases had decreased significantly by 66.9%, 84.3%, 87%, and 85.2%, respectively, during lockdown (April-June 2020) compared to January-March 2020. Dramatic reduction noticed in hospital admission of diarrhea (93%), measles (96.5%), chicken pox (99.2%), acute respiratory illness (93.9%), diphtheria (66.7%), rabies (66.6%), and typhoid (98.2%) patients; while no cases of tetanus, swine flu, meningococcal meningitis, and mumps were admitted during lockdown period. Conclusion: It is evidenced that measures put in place by the government to curb COVID-19 spread disrupted other ID patient attendance at hospitals. Stigma and fear of contracting COVID-19 during hospital visits and unavailability of transport due to lockdown could be the main reason for reduced attendance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction  Traditional classrooms with limited flexibility in cell phones and social platforms like Twitter and Facebook are typical for most schools and colleges. The coronavirus disease 2019 lockdown scenario opened up a new way and created a wave in purchasing and using android phones, laptops, high-intensity Wi-Fi, which gave an entirely new look to the educational system. Hence, the present study aims to assess the challenges at technology adaption in academic learning faced by nursing students. Methodology  A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive survey design was adopted. A total of 708 nursing students were selected using the universal sampling technique in the study. Prior to the study obtained ethical clearance certificate and authority permission from the institutes where the participants were pursuing their nursing course. Demographic Proforma and challenges of technology adoption rating scale were prepared and sent to nursing students online to determine the challenges of technology adoption for academic learning. A second reminder was sent if the participants failed to submit the online forms within 2 days. Results  The majority of the students, 557 (78.6%), were between the age group of 18 to 21 years, 658 (92.9%) were females, and 688 (97.2%) of them were pursuing a BSc nursing course. The majority, 188 (26.6%), of the students were pursuing second year BSc. One-third (257; 36.3%) of the participants were from Karnataka. Most of the students, (677; 95.6%), felt that virtual classes have barriers to learning opportunities. A small proportion of the students felt that technology adoption is an opportunity to learn academics during the lockdown. Mean percentage scores of (394; 55.59%) subjects indicate virtual classes made them face many challenges in the form of barriers to learning academics. Conclusion  Adequate training on handling technical issues and advanced technology is the need of the hour in higher education institutions. Background: Subject of interest is the status of mental health of college students around the globe as they are undergoing a lot of mental stress and depression during the pandemic lockdown. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this survey is to evaluate the prevalence of depression, its determinants, and association with coping mechanisms among college students during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Methodology: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based e-survey among college students in North India using Snowball sampling technique was done. A total of 920 responses (calculated sample size) were collected for a period of 25 days from 6th to 30th October 2020. A questionnaire regarding sociodemographic characteristics, COVID-19-related experiences along with Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Carver Brief-coping orientation to the problem experienced-28 was adapted to Google Forms and distributed to college students. Chi-square test, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used to investigate the determinants of depression and its association with coping mechanisms. Results: On analysis of 884 qualified participants, it was revealed that 402 (45.5%) participants have depressive symptoms ranging from moderate to severe level. The mean score of PHQ-9 was 9.82 ± 6.61. Nearly 85% thought that they were lagging behind in studies. The main determinants of depression in this study were age group of 21-24 years thought of lagging behind in studies and family members/friends/relatives diagnosed with COVID-19. Adaptive coping mechanisms (emotional support, religion, and humor) were significantly associated with lower depressive symptoms and maladaptive coping mechanisms (self-distraction, denial, behavioral disengagement, and venting) were significantly associated with higher depressive symptoms among students. Conclusions: This survey revealed multiple determinants of depression, mainly including academic worries among college students. The college staff should provide a well-structured pedagogical framework to encourage them and alleviate the unpleasant psychological effects of pandemic on students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: India saw one of the stringent lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the wake of this period, the normal functioning of medical services was affected. People were reluctant to seek medical attention and notification of Tuberculosis dipped. The aim of the study was to estimate the proportion of non-adherence to anti-tubercular treatment and to identify the factors affecting the non-adherence to treatment. Methods: A retrospective community-based study was conducted among 284 tuberculosis patients. They were interviewed using a pre-designed questionnaire consisting of WHO dimensions of non-adherence and lockdown related questions. Results: The proportion of non-adherence to treatment was found to be 5.3%. Factors like chronic diseases, depression, without knowledge on how the disease is transmitted and that medication can be discontinued once the symptoms subsided, alcohol consumption, and trouble accessing medicine were found to be the determining factors in non-adherence to the treatment. Conclusions: Non-adherence to anti-tuberculosis treatment in our study was low but the various dimensions of adherence along with lockdown related factors had significant impact on it. Background and Aim: Pandemic and consequent lockdowns are likely to affect the drug market by the sudden disruption of the supply chain. We explored the change in the availability, access, purity, and pricing during lockdown from respondents seeking treatment for drugs, alcohol, and tobacco dependence. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 404 respondents from seven treatment centers across India. A structured questionnaire assessed the change in availability, access, quality, and price of substances used during the first phase (March 24–April 14) and the second phase (April 15–May 3) of lockdown. Results: A majority of the respondents in treatment used tobacco (63%) and alcohol (52%). Relatively few respondents used opioids (45%) or cannabis (5%). Heroin (44%) was the most common opioid the respondents were treated for. Seventy-five percent, 65%, and 60% of respondents treated for alcohol, tobacco, and opioid problems, respectively, reported a reduction in the availability and access during the first phase of the lockdown. In the second phase, respondents with alcohol and tobacco dependence reported greater availability than those with opioid and cannabis dependence. The reported price of all substances increased more than 50% during the first phase of lockdown and remained higher throughout the second phase. Deterioration in purity was reported by more than half of the people who used opioid. Conclusion: Lockdown could have affected both licit and illicit drug markets, albeit to a varying degree. This study attempts to comprehend the reading habits of faculty members of the higher education sector in India during the lockdown period and a comparative analysis of the reading habits of faculty members prior to the lockdown and during the lockdown. The study used an online survey approach to gather information using a Google form. The study population was composed of teachers from the higher education sectors in India. The study revealed the change and the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown state on faculty members' reading habits in India's higher education sector. An online survey was conducted of the unknown population using WhatsApp received 734 responses. The responses were analyzed by the study's objectives and tested a simple null hypothesis, i.e., "There is no significant change in the reading habits of the faculty members of the higher education sector in India during the lockdown period." The study discovered that faculty members had spent more time for reading, reading habits have considerably increased, a positive impact on reading habits, utilized their lockdown time to satisfy their information needs, the change in reading habits is observable, and there is an inclination towards the utilization of digital and online information. The study would be helpful for librarians, libraries, and information centres to prepare future strategic plans, develop a system for crisis management in libraries, and provide better information services after knowing the opinion of faculty members of higher education. The study is original since no study combining variables such as teachers, higher education sector, India, and reading habits has been undertaken.
