Teledermatology has become very popular, and not only due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Patients with occupational skin diseases (OSDs) could also benefit from teledermatology services as part of their follow-up care, but the opportunities and challenges for patients and dermatologists, especially regarding quality and satisfaction, need exploration. In this single-center feasibility study, 215 patients taking part in a tertiary prevention program for OSD were invited to participate. After obtaining consent, a follow-up video consultation appointment with the center's dermatologists was made. Quality and satisfaction with the consultations were evaluated by fully standardized online questionnaires filled in by the patients and dermatologists. A total of 68 teledermatological follow-up consultations were conducted by 10 dermatologists on 42 patients. Half of the dermatologists (50.0%) and 87.6% of the patients were satisfied with the video consultations. However, the lack of physical examination seems to be a problem, especially from the physicians' point of view (75.8%). A total of 66.1% of the dermatologists and 87.5% of the patients saw video consultations as useful supplements to face-to-face consultations. The results of our feasibility study indicate general satisfaction of patients and physicians with teledermatological sessions in occupational dermatology, especially as a useful supplement to face-to-face consultation.

Amphibians are susceptible to a multitude of skin disorders, many of which can appear grossly similar. The most common clinical presentations include hyperemia, discoloration, dermal mass, ulceration, and necrosis. Many amphibian skin diseases are related to captive husbandry. The diagnostic process starts with environmental evaluations, a full history, physical examination and sampling for direct observation, histology, polymerase chain reaction testing, and bacterial and fungal culture. Objective: Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) is a parasitic disease seen in people in contact with soil in tropical countries. Almost all cases reported in regions without a tropical climate have a history of travel to a tropical region., Aim: In our study, we aimed to investigate the effect of climate change on CLM cases and the demographic characteristics of these cases. For this purpose, the climate information of the period in which we determined the case series and the characteristics of the patients were investigated., Material and Method: The study was designed retrospectively. Patient files and pre- and post-treatment photographic archives were reviewed retrospectively. In addition, the region's weather history over the last 50 years was examined., Results: The records of patients diagnosed with CLM in 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. In total, 22 cases were detected. The common feature of all cases was that they worked as tea pickers. After examining the weather conditions of the period when the cases were commonly reported, it was determined that there was a sharp temperature increase compared with previous years., Conclusion: Due to climate change, an increase in the number of CLM cases is observed in non-tropical regions. Since it is considered a disease-specific to tropical regions, the diagnosis may be overlooked in cases outside these regions. Background: The involvement of a dermatologist in inpatient care can result in accurate diagnosis and prescription of appropriate treatment more promptly., Objectives: We aimed to analyse the main reasons for dermatological inpatient consultation in a tertiary centre., Materials & Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed based on clinical registries that included inpatients observed in emergency dermatology consultation between January 1st 2016 to December 31st 2020 at the Hospital de Santa Maria, a tertiary teaching hospital in Lisbon, Portugal., Results: In our dermatology emergency department, we performed 1,052 inpatient consultations during this five-year period. The most frequent diagnostic groups were infections and parasitic diseases (31.1%), inflammatory skin disorders (18.1%) and reactive erythemas (17.7%). Requests were most commonly (85.1%) made by medical specialities., Conclusion: Inpatient dermatological consultations grant access to expert management of drug-induced dermatoses, flares of chronic skin diseases, skin manifestations of systemic diseases and cutaneous infections. Prompt dermatological evaluation is essential for early diagnosis, thus enabling a better prognosis.

Background: In recent years, the introduction of the E‑Health Act and the relaxation of the ban on remote treatment has improved the framework for telemedicine in Germany., Objectives: The aim of this article is to present an overview of the evidence of different areas of application for teledermatology., Materials and Methods: A narrative review of national and international studies and projects on the use of teledermatology for diagnosis, monitoring of diseases, triage between primary care physicians (PCPs) and dermatologists, and its use in facilities with reduced organizational and/or geographical access to specialist care was conducted., Results: Diagnostic applications allow teledermatological assessment in a large proportion of cases, with high concordance of diagnosis and patient satisfaction. For the monitoring of patients, the majority of studies demonstrated no difference in effectiveness between on-site and remote consultation, while patients are spared travel distance and waiting time. For programs enabling triage most of the patients with dermatologic conditions were able to remain with the PCP, while acute patients requiring direct referral to a dermatologist were identified. In special facilities, such as prisons, dermatological teleconsultations are successfully utilized., Conclusion: An adequate framework and promising evidence for the use of teledermatology exist. A better understanding of what skin conditions are most commonly diagnosed in different pediatric racial and ethnic groups in outpatient dermatology clinics could help guide the development of pediatric dermatology educational initiatives for primary care providers and general dermatologists who have limited access to pediatric dermatologists. Using a nationally representative dataset, we evaluated the most common diagnoses in patients younger than 15 years of age (children) and 15-24 years of age (youth) who present to outpatient dermatology clinics, stratified by race and ethnicity. While acne and dermatitis were among the top ten most common diagnoses in all racial and ethnic groups studied, Black children were also commonly diagnosed with dermatophytosis and impetigo, and Black and Hispanic children were often diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis; pigmentary disorders were among the top three most common diagnoses in Black, Asian, and Hispanic youth. Objectives: Dermatology Life Quality index (DLQI) is the most widely used health-related quality of life questionnaire in dermatology. Little is known about existing questionnaire or scoring modifications of the DLQI. We aimed to systematically review, identify, and categorize all modified questionnaire versions and scoring methods of the DLQI., Methods: We performed a systematic literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsychINFO. Methodologic quality and evidence of psychometric properties were assessed using the Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) and Terwee checklists., Results: The included 81 articles reported on 77 studies using 59 DLQI modifications. Modifications were used for a combined sample of 25 509 patients with 47 different diagnoses and symptoms from 28 countries. The most frequently studied diseases were psoriasis, hirsutism, acne, alopecia, and bromhidrosis. The modifications were categorized into the following nonmutually exclusive groups: bolt-ons or bolt-offs (48%), disease, symptom, and body part specifications (42%), changes in existing items (34%), scoring modifications (27%), recall period changes (19%), response scale modifications (15%), and illustrations (3%). The evidence concerning the quality of measurement properties was heterogeneous: 4 of 13 studies were rated positive on internal consistency, 1 of 3 on reliability, 3 of 5 on content validity, 9 of 22 on construct validity, 6 of 6 on criterion validity, and 1 of 1 on responsiveness., Conclusion: An exceptionally large number of DLQI modifications have been used that may indicate an unmet need for adequate health-related quality of life instruments in dermatology. Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem disease that affects up to 3.2% of the United States population. This guideline addresses important clinical questions that arise in psoriasis management and care and provides recommendations based on the available evidence. The treatment of psoriasis with topical agents and with alternative medicine will be reviewed, emphasizing treatment recommendations and the role of dermatologists in monitoring and educating patients regarding benefits as well as risks that may be associated. Introduction Teledermatology has contributed to the enhanced accessibility of underserved populations. This study investigated the prevalence and clinical outcomes of dermatologic diseases in prisoners in Korea through live interactive teledermatology (LITD) Method The medical records of patients in a Busan prison, who interacted with a dermatologist using LITD from July 2013 to August 2016, were reviewed retrospectively. Results The mean age of the 406 patients enrolled in the study was 39.0 years and 91.4% were male. Infectious disease (42.8%) was the most common type of disease, followed by eczematous disease (29.4%) and diseases of the skin appendages (14.5%). Among the 187 (38.2%) patients who had a follow-up consultation, 162 (86.7%) showed clinical improvement, whereas 21 showed either no change or a worse clinical outcome. Twenty patients were diagnosed with different types of dermatologic disease at follow-up consultations. Discussion LITD can contribute to a favourable clinical outcome and may thus be an effective alternative to face-to-face consultation in prisoners and other underserved populations.

The effects of ultraviolet radiation on human skin have been studied for years, and both its harmful and therapeutic effects are well known. Exposure to UV light can lead to sunburn, immunosuppression, skin aging, and carcinogenesis, and photoprotection is strongly advocated. However, when used under controlled conditions, UV radiation can also be helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of many skin conditions.

The connection between stress and skin disease has been extensively documented; however, there are no empirical studies investigating the incidence of traumatic event exposure and posttraumatic stress (PTS) symptoms among dermatology patients. To address this gap in the literature and begin to understand the associations between PTS symptoms and skin disease symptoms, this study used a sample of adults with self-reported skin disease symptoms to examine: (1) rates of potentially traumatic event (PTE) exposure and PTS symptoms; and (2) the association between PTS symptoms and skin-related quality of life, controlling for relevant covariates. Data were collected online through Cloud Research, and participants completed a battery of self-report measures. The sample included 310 participants (68.4% female) who endorsed current skin disease symptoms. Results indicated that 47.1% of participants endorsed clinical levels of PTS symptoms. Consistent with hypotheses, greater levels of PTS symptoms were associated with worse skin-related quality of life, and this association was particularly robust for arousal-related symptoms. Results shed light on the occurrence of trauma-related experiences among individuals with self-reported skin disease and indicate a link between PTS symptoms and the perceived burden of skin disease symptoms on daily living. However, this study was cross-sectional and relied on self-report measures; therefore, findings should be interpreted with caution, particularly since diagnoses could not be verified. GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are medications approved to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity and have been reported to improve psoriasis. As more psoriasis patients start GLP-1RAs for approved indications, it is of interest to understand the impact of GLP-1RAs on both psoriasis and associated cardiovascular risk. In this review, we examine the effect of GLP-1RAs on psoriasis and cardiovascular comorbidities—defined as hypertension, stroke, and myocardial infarction. The majority of case reports and prospective cohort studies found GLP-1RAs improved psoriasis, while two randomized controlled trials showed conflicting results. For cardiovascular disease, most studies found GLP-1RAs reduced systolic blood pressure, total stroke, and myocardial mortality. These results suggest that GLP-1RAs may be a particularly promising treatment for psoriasis patients with diabetes or obesity comorbidities, offering both cardioprotective benefits and potential improvement in psoriatic symptoms.Keywords: skin disease, oxidative stress, hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction

Because of their convenience, rapidness and non-invasive advantages, non-invasive skin physiological monitoring technique can be auxiliary examination of many common skin diseases and is of great significance in guiding the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Skin physiological monitor is a newly-developed non-invasive skin physiological monitoring technique, which can evaluate skin barrier by measuring transepidermal water loss rate (TEWL), skin surface pH, stratum corneum hydration (SCH), sebum content and so on. This manuscript reviews and discusses the applications and significance of non-invasive skin physiological monitors in dermatology. It will provide a basis for analyzing the correlation between skin barrier function and diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.

Abstract Skin diseases are prevalent globally and can have detrimental effects on the individual’s health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The treatment of dermatological patients typically focuses on clinical signs and symptoms and a subjective view of the impact of the disease on the patient’s life. Assessing quality of life can help provide patients with better service, by acknowledging their real needs and interfering with treatment decisions. The aim of the study was therefore to assess quality of life of dermatology outpatients and its associated factors. An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in the dermatology clinic of Halibet National Referral Hospital in Asmara, Eritrea. HRQoL data were collected between May 6 and August 18, 2022 using a validated standard tool (Skindex-29). Descriptive statistics, logistic regression and paired t-test were employed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (Version-26.0). A total of 375 dermatology clinic out-patients with a median age of 29 (Interquartile range: 25) were included in the study. The most commonly seen skin diseases were eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and tinea pedis. Emotion, symptom, and functioning domains of HRQoL were severely impaired in 75.7%, 50.4% and 57.6% of all dermatology outpatients, respectively. More than half of the respondents (57.9%) had a severely impaired overall HRQoL. In the overall HRQoL, being a rural resident [Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) 1.98, 95% CI 1.18, 3.33] and presence of chronic illness (AOR 2.16, 95% CI 1.22, 3.82) were significantly associated with severely impaired overall quality of life. Background: When immunofluorescence on the frozen section is insufficient or unavailable, salvage immunofluorescence techniques can be used on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue. The goal of the current investigation was to evaluate the diagnostic value of paraffin immunofluorescence following proteinase K digestion on skin biopsy samples in comparison to fresh frozen immunofluorescence. Materials and Methods: It was standardized and compared to the immunofluorescence on fresh frozen tissue (IF-Frozen) for paraffin immunofluorescence by proteinase K digestion of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded skin biopsies (IF-FFPE). The study included 50 native skin biopsy cases, and fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled IgA, IgG, IgM, and C3 intensity levels were evaluated in each case. Results: A total of 50 cases of native skin biopsy were included in the study, and their intensities for IgA, IgG, IgM, and C3 antibodies were compared. The average staining intensities in each disease group for the antibodies had equal intensity or had a minor difference (1+)/significant difference (2+). Paraffin immunofluorescence, proteinase K digestion had the best correlation, that is, had either equal or minor difference (1+) with fresh frozen immunofluorescence. The difference of 2+ intensity of antibodies between IF-FFPE and IF-Frozen was noted mainly in C3 antibody on paraneoplastic pemphigus. IF-FFPE showed a sensitivity of 100%, 97.6%, 100%, and 81.6% for IgA, IgG, IgM, and C3, respectively, whereas the specificity was 100% for IgA, IgG, IgM, and C3. Limitations: Small sample size and and the employment of one method of antigen retrieval in IF-FFPE. Conclusion: Immunofluorescence techniques done on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue can serve as salvage techniques in cases where immunofluorescence on the frozen section may not be adequate or may not be available.

Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a common skin disorder that affects up 10% of the worldwide population. Its pathogenesis involves a complex interplay of factors, leading to the development of cutaneous lesions (papules, pustules, and comedones). This clinical trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a specific probiotic formulation composed by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum PBS067, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LRH020, and Limosilactobacillus reuteri PBS072 in improving AV symptoms in adult subject from the APAC region. Materials and methods: A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical study was carried out on 64 women supplemented for 56 days plus a follow-up period. Instrumental evaluations of different skin parameters and clinical assessments of lesions were performed at 28 and 56 days after supplementation (T28 and T56, respectively) and during follow-up (T70). Results: A significant increase in skin hydration was achieved by probiotic group compared to the placebo (p < 0.05). An improved trend in sebum content and pH resulted in a statistically significant difference with respect to placebo (p < 0.05 for the former parameter at T28 and T70; p < 0.05 for the latter at T70). A progressive decrement of lesions was demonstrated at each endpoint considered by probiotic supplementation, reaching significant values for non-inflammatory ones at T56 and T70 (p < 0.05 and p < s0.01, respectively). Conclusions: This specific probiotic formulation may help improving acne symptoms, offering a possible adjuvant therapy to the conventional one and thus overall ameliorating the patient’s quality of life. Background: In recent years, computer-aided diagnosis for skin conditions has made significant strides, primarily driven by artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. However, despite this progress, the efficiency of AI-enabled systems remains hindered by the scarcity of high-quality and large-scale datasets, primarily due to privacy concerns. Methods: This research circumvents privacy issues associated with real-world acne datasets by creating a synthetic dataset of human faces with varying acne severity levels (mild, moderate, and severe) using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). Further, three object detection models—YOLOv5, YOLOv8, and Detectron2—are used to evaluate the efficacy of the augmented dataset for detecting acne. Results: Integrating StyleGAN with these models, the results demonstrate the mean average precision (mAP) scores: YOLOv5: 73.5%, YOLOv8: 73.6%, and Detectron2: 37.7%. These scores surpass the mAP achieved without GANs. Conclusions: This study underscores the effectiveness of GANs in generating synthetic facial acne images and emphasizes the importance of utilizing GANs and convolutional neural network (CNN) models for accurate acne detection. The prevalence of skin illnesses is higher than that of other diseases. Fungal infection, bacteria, allergies, viruses, genetic factors, and environmental factors are among important causative factors that have continuously escalated the degree and incidence of skin diseases. Medical technology based on lasers and photonics has made it possible to identify skin illnesses considerably more rapidly and correctly. However, the cost of such a diagnosis is currently limited and prohibitively high and restricted to developed areas. The present paper develops a holistic, critical, and important skin disease prediction system that utilizes machine learning and deep learning algorithms to accurately identify up to 20 different skin diseases with a high F1 score and efficiency. Deep learning algorithms like Xception, Inception-v3, Resnet50, DenseNet121, and Inception-ResNet-v2 were employed to accurately classify diseases based on the images. The training and testing have been performed on an enlarged dataset, and classification was performed for 20 diseases. The algorithm developed was free from any inherent bias and treated all classes equally. The present model, which was trained using the Xception algorithm, is highly efficient and accurate for 20 different skin conditions, with a dataset of over 10,000 photos. Abstract Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is an underexplored psychiatric condition in Middle Eastern countries, particularly in patients with dermatologic concerns, where alterations in appearance may elevate the risk of BDD. We studied patients at Jordan University Hospital's general dermatology and cosmetic clinics from July to September 2022, comparing them to healthy controls. Patients with dermatologic conditions were evaluated per the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) criteria by trained dermatologists. All participants completed the Dysmorphic Concerns Questionnaire (DCQ), Perceived Stress Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-2, General Anxiety Disorder Assessment tool-2. We assessed BDD prevalence using four DCQ cutoffs: 9, 11, 14, and 17, reporting effect sizes as odds ratios (OR). Our study involved 1500 participants, with an average age of 29.3 (± 14.8) years and a female-to-male ratio of 3.15-to-1. At the 9, 11, 14, and 17 DCQ cutoffs, BDD prevalence was 78.2%, 54.2%, 26.5%, and 11.7%, respectively. Our study involved 1500 participants, with an average age of 29.3 (± 14.8) years and a female-to-male ratio of 3.15-to-1. At the 9, 11, 14, and 17 DCQ cutoffs, BDD prevalence was 78.2%, 54.2%, 26.5%, and 11.7%, respectively. Patients with dermatologic concerns were more likely to exhibit clinical BDD symptoms than controls at the 11-cutoff (OR: 1.26; 95% CI 1.01–1.58; p < 0.05). Conversely, those with cosmetic concerns were more prone to clinical BDD than controls at cutoffs 9 (OR: 2.26; 95% CI 1.28–3.97; p < 0.05) and 11 (OR: 1.50; 95% CI 1.03–2.20; p < 0.05). Our logistic regression revealed consistent associations between higher DCQ scores and elevated anxiety, depression, perceived skin disease-related stigma, and reduced quality of life (p < 0.05). In conclusion, patients with dermatologic issues and those seeking cosmetic procedures are at significant risk of developing BDD, necessitating proactive screening and referrals for specialized care by dermatologists due to the associated psychological distress and unproductive consultations. Providing specialized training for healthcare professionals to establish an integrated care approach to address the needs of patients with BDD should be the focus of future research projects. A subgroup of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) suffers from recurrent, disseminated herpes simplex virus skin infection, termed eczema herpeticum. To determine the transcriptional mechanisms of the skin and immune system pathobiology that underlie development of AD with eczema herpeticum (ADEH), we performed RNA-sequencing analysis of nonlesional skin (epidermis, dermis) from AD patients with and without a history of ADEH (ADEH+, n = 15; ADEH−, n = 13) along with healthy controls (n = 15). We also performed RNA sequencing on participants’ plasmacytoid dendritic cells infected in vitro with herpes simplex virus 1. ADEH+ patients exhibited dysregulated gene expression, limited in the dermis (14 differentially expressed genes) and more widespread in the epidermis (129 differentially expressed genes). ADEH+-upregulated epidermal differentially expressed genes were enriched in type 2 cytokine (IL4R, CCL22, CRLF2, IL7R), interferon (CXCL10, ICAM1, IFI44, IRF7), and IL-36γ (IL36G) inflammatory gene pathways. All ADEH+ participants exhibited type 2 cytokine and inteferon endotypes, and 87% were IL36G-high. In contrast, these endotypes were more variably expressed among ADEH− participants. ADEH+ skin also had dysregulated epidermal differentiation complex gene expression of the late-cornified envelope, S100A, and small proline-rich gene families, which are involved in skin barrier function and antimicrobial activities. Plasmacytoid dendritic cell transcriptional responses to herpes simplex virus 1 infection were unaltered by ADEH status. The study concluded that the pathobiology underlying ADEH+ risk is associated with a unique, multifaceted epidermal inflammation that accompanies dysregulation of epidermal differentiation complex genes. These findings will help direct future studies that define how these inflammatory patterns may drive risk of eczema herpeticum in AD.

Abstract Background Indigenous children in colonised nations experience high rates of health disparities linked to historical trauma resulting from displacement and dispossession, as well as ongoing systemic racism. Skin infections and their complications are one such health inequity, with the highest global burden described in remote-living Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (hereafter respectfully referred to as Aboriginal) children. Yet despite increasing urbanisation, little is known about the skin infection burden for urban-living Aboriginal children. More knowledge is needed to inform service provision, treatment guidelines and community-wide healthy skin strategies. In this pilot study, we aimed to test the feasibility and design of larger multi-site observational studies, provide initial descriptions of skin disease frequency and generate preliminary hypotheses of association. Methods This project has been co-designed with local (Noongar) Elders to provide an Australian-first description of skin health and disease in urban-living Aboriginal children. In collaboration with an urban Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service), we conducted a week-long cross-sectional observational cohort study of Aboriginal children (0–18 years) recruited from the waiting room. Participants completed a questionnaire, skin examination, clinical photos, and swabs and received appropriate treatment. We assessed the feasibility and impact of the pilot study. Results From 4 to 8 October 2021, we recruited 84 Aboriginal children of whom 80 (95%) were urban-living. With a trusted Aboriginal Health Practitioner leading recruitment, most parents (or caregivers) who were approached consented to participate. Among urban-living children, over half (45/80, 56%) of parents described a current concern with their child’s skin, hair and/or nails; and one-third (26/80, 33%) reported current itchy skin. Using a research-service model, 27% (21/79) of examined urban-living participants received opportunistic same-day treatment and 18% (14/79) were referred for later review. Conclusions This co-designed pilot study to understand skin health in urban-living Aboriginal children was feasible and acceptable, with high study participation and subsequent engagement in clinical care observed. Co-design and the strong involvement of Aboriginal people to lead and deliver the project was crucial. The successful pilot has informed larger, multi-site observational studies to more accurately answer questions of disease burden and inform the development of healthy skin messages for urban-living Aboriginal children.

Individuals with skin disease may experience negative symptoms such as itching and pain, social stigma, and isolation. This cross-sectional study included 378 patients with skin diseases. The Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI) score was found to be higher in individuals with skin disease. A high score indicates an impaired quality of life. Married people than single people, those who are 31 years old and older than those who are 30 years old and younger have higher DLQI scores. And also those who work than those who are unemployed, those who have diseases than those who do not have any other diseases, and those who smoke than those who are non-smokers have higher DLQI scores. In order to increase the quality of life of individuals with skin diseases, it is necessary to detect risky situations as well as symptom control and add psychosocial and psychotherapeutic interventions to the treatment plan. Background: Elderly people are susceptible to various skin diseases. To monitor disease trends in the geriatric population, epidemiologic data on skin diseases are essential. However, studies on skin diseases in geriatric patients in Indonesia, particularly those who are hospitalised, are limited. Therefore, this retrospective study aims to determine the skin disease profile in geriatric patients at a tertiary referral hospital in Indonesia. Methods: The subjects were all geriatric inpatients who were consulted at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital between 2017 and 2019. The patients were analysed according to sex, age and comorbidities. They were divided into 15 groups according to the diseases. Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test was used to compare categorical variables. Results: The most common skin diseases were infections (35.8%), dermatitis (21.8%), ulcers (12.8%), age-related skin changes (8.4%) and vascular diseases (5.3%). Dermatitis was significantly more common in males (P < 0.05), whereas infections were significantly more common in females (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Consistent with previous studies, our inpatient data showed that infections were significantly more common in females, whereas dermatitis was significantly more common in males. Introduction: Eczema is a debilitating skin disorder clinically characterised by the development of itchy, dry, rough, and scaling skin caused by a series of rudimentary clinical phenotypes. Methods: This double-blind, randomised, comparator-controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of topical application of a novel palmitoylethanolamide formulation (Levagen+) compared with a standard moisturiser (comparator) to reduce eczema severity and improve patient outcomes. Seventy-two participants aged over 18 years old with atopic eczema (symptoms including redness, dry skin, scaling, and/or itchiness) on their hands or arm were recruited. Participants were randomly allocated to one of two treatment groups (Levagen + or comparator). Treatment was applied to the affected area twice daily for 4 weeks. Outcome measures included Self-Assessed Eczema Area Severity Index (SA-EASI) scoring and Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) from baseline to week 4. Results: Levagen+ was effective at alleviating symptom severity of eczema over 4 weeks. Levagen+ significantly reduced redness, dryness, and total POEM score compared to a comparator cream. Conclusion: Levagen+ can significantly reduce eczema symptom severity compared to a comparator product, supporting its use as a potential treatment for eczema. Major skin changes are one of the many features occurring with ageing and it is estimated that 70% of older people have skin problems (All-Party Parliamentary Group on Skin (APPGS), 2000). Background and Aim: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a well‐known noncommunicable disease that plays a significant role in emerging other chronic disorders and following complications. MetS is also involved in the pathophysiology of numerous dermatological diseases. We aim to evaluate the association of MetS with the most prevalent dermatological diseases. Methods: A systematic search was carried out on PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Cochrane, as well as the Google Scholar search engine. Only English case‐control studies regarding MetS and any skin disease from the beginning of 2010 up to November 15, 2022, were selected. The study was conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis (PRISMA). Results: A total of 37 studies (13,830 participants) met the inclusion criteria. According to our result, patients with psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), vitiligo, androgenetic alopecia (AGA), and lichen planus (LP) have a higher chance of having MetS compared to the general population. Furthermore, people with seborrheic dermatitis (SED) and rosacea are more prone to insulin resistance, high blood pressure (BP), and higher blood lipids. After pooling data, the meta‐analysis revealed a significant association between MetS and skin diseases (pooled odds ratio [OR]: 3.28, 95% confidence interval: 2.62−4.10). Concerning the type of disease, MetS has been correlated with AGA (OR: 11.86), HS (OR: 4.46), LP (OR: 3.79), and SED (OR: 2.45). Psoriasis also showed a significant association but with high heterogeneity (OR: 2.89). Moreover, skin diseases and MetS are strongly associated in Spain (OR: 5.25) and Thailand (OR: 11.86). Regarding the metaregression model, the effect size was reduced with increasing age (OR: 0.965), while the size increased with AGA (OR: 3.064). Conclusions: MetS is closely associated with skin complications. Dermatologists and other multidisciplinary teams should be cautious while treating these patients to prevent severe complications resulting from MetS. Previous literature has not reported the case of parents with negative genetic test results, and typical early clinical symptoms and auxiliary inspection results were also lacking.Case Report: A female child was found to have broken skin immediately after birth with no family inheritance disease, and the area of the broken skin increased. Immediately afterward, Head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed multiple blood lesions in the brain. Then, the wide-angle digital retinal imaging system suggesting that fundus fluorescein angiography showed fundus vascular loop-like changes. And blood genetic testing showed that exons 4– 10 of the NEMO gene located in Xq28 were deleted. The patient was eventually diagnosed with IP. However, her parents were a non-consanguineous healthy couple, with no specific skin, oral, or perineal diseases. And her parents’ blood genetic testing showed that the parents and sisters of the patient did not have the NEMO gene exon deletion of Xq28.Conclusion: This case demonstrates the process from suspected neonatal IP cases without familial inheritance to diagnosis, which showed the typical early clinical symptoms and auxiliary inspection results. RNA modification is considered as an epigenetic modification that plays an indispensable role in biological processes such as gene expression and genome editing without altering nucleotide sequence, but the molecular mechanism of RNA modification has not been discussed systematically in the development of skin diseases. This article mainly presents the whole picture of theoretical achievements on the potential role of RNA modification in dermatology. Furthermore, this article summarizes the latest advances in clinical practice related with RNA modification, including its detection methods and drug development. Based on this comprehensive review, we aim to illustrate the current blind spots and future directions of RNA modification, which may provide new insights for researchers in this field.

Introduction: Aging is a ubiquitous human trait that predisposes older persons to chronic diseases. Compared with systemic non-communicable diseases, a significant gap exists in literature on the burden of non-communicable dermatoses (NCDs) amongst older adults, particularly in low and middle-income countries. Objectives: The aim of this study was to document the epidemiology and clinical pattern of non-communicable skin diseases among older adults in Nigeria. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of medical records of ambulant adults aged ≥60 years referred for dermatological care at a teaching hospital in Southwestern Nigeria between February 2017 and February 2022. The frequency and pattern of NCDS were recorded for descriptive statistical analysis using SPSS 20 statistics software. The level of statistical significance was set at 0.05. Result : A total of 553 medical records were reviewed with a female: male ratio of 1.3:1 The mean age of the study population was 68.85 ±7.87. Six out of every 10 patients (60.6%) had at least one chronic NCD. The incidence of chronic NCDs declined with increasing age. Chronic eczemas (22.4%), pigmentary dermatoses (9.4%), and skin tumors (8.7%) were the most frequent chronic non-communicable dermatoses recorded. Older males had a significantly higher incidence of chronic eczemas while chronic urticarias and skin tumors demonstrated significant female preponderance. Conclusion: There is a high burden of Chronic NCDs with significant gender disparities among older adults with skin problems in Nigeria. Pre-emptive planning and resource allocation towards specialist geriatric-dermatology services are needed to address the skin-health needs of the growing geriatric population.

In China, the most common species is Sporothrix globosa which is difficult to treat with most antifungal drugs. Atypical clinical forms of sporotrichosis can be a hinder to clinicians for an early diagnosis and treatment. We report a case of fixed cutaneous sporotrichosis of the face caused by S. globosa in a healthy adult that was initially misdiagnosed as rosacea due to its unusual clinical features. Exosomes are small extracellular nanovesicles that are released by cells, and their potential has been explored for use in cosmetics, skin care, tissue regeneration, and dermatological diseases. The therapeutic value of exosomes lies in their ability to modulate the microenvironment of cells, regulate gene expression, and induce cell differentiation, which can have a positive impact on skin health. In terms of cosmetics, exosomes have been used to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and hydration, and enhance skin elasticity, as well as to reduce inflammation and damage caused by UV radiation. Furthermore, exosomes have been used to promote tissue regeneration in skin wounds and to treat dermatological diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, systemic sclerosis, pigment regulation, vitiligo, and hair growth. In this review, the therapeutic value of exosomes in the field of cosmetics, skin care, tissue regeneration, and dermatological diseases, has been elaborated. The skin is one of the organs of the human body where various internal health problems including cardiovascular diseases tend to show some notable signs and symptoms. The dermatologist may be one of the first clinician to recognize that someone does have cardiovascular disease because warning signs can develop on the skin. The aim of this research is to use the efficientNetV2 model for the classification of dermatologic manifestations of cardiovascular disease based on transfer learning. The EfficientNetV2 model was modified and trained as a classifier for the selected images of dermatologic manifestations of cardiovascular disease. A total of 2665 images consisting of 430 for Cyanosis, 480 for Liverdo reticularis, 780 for Xanthoma, 430 for Stasis dermatitis, 540 for fingernails clubbing, and other 1100 images of both normal skin and general objects were used in the training of the model. Data augmentation was also used to increase the amount of training images and finetuning was employed on the model. Google Collaboratory was used as the platform to train the model. The trained model with fine-tuning was able to obtain a considerable accuracy of 96.04%. Skin illnesses are more prevalent than other diseases. Skin disorders can be caused by a variety of things, including viruses, bacteria, allergies, and fungi. Thanks to advancements in laser and photonics-based medical technology, skin diseases can now be detected much more quickly and precisely. However, the expense of such a diagnostic is still very high. Therefore, image processing methods aid in the beginning development of automated dermatology screening systems. The classification of skin diseases relies heavily on the extraction of features. In a number of methods, computer vision plays a part in the identification of skin conditions. Skin infections are prevalent in Saudi Arabia as a result of the deserts and the hot climate. The study of diseases of the skin detection is aided by this work. We suggested a method for identifying skin conditions based on image processing. This technique uses analysis of images to determine the sort of disease after taking a digital photograph of the affected skin area. A digital camera and a personal computer are the only pricey pieces of equipment needed for our straightforward, quick method. The method uses a color image's inputs as its basis. Then, using a convolutional neural network that has already been trained, resize the picture in order to extract features. After that, a multiclass SVM was used to classify the feature. The user is then presented the results, which include the kind of disease, its distribution, and its severity. Hence, the study aimed to investigate the prevalence of skin disease and its associated factors among primary schoolchildren in Debre Berhan town, North Shoa, Ethiopia.Methods: Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted. The samples were chosen using a multistage stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using both a self-administered and an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Children were clinically examined to detect and record the dermatological findings. A potassium hydroxide test was used to confirm some doubtful cases. The data were entered in Epi Info version 3.5.1 and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Variables with a p-value < 0.05 were designated as having statistical significance.Results: The overall point prevalence of any skin disease was 61.2% (95% CI: 56.4– 66.1). In a multivariable logistic regression model, a significant association between skin diseases and the occupation of the father being a farmer (AOR: 4.21, 95% CI: 1.06– 16.63), bad personal hygiene (AOR: 1.78, 95% CI: 1.03– 4.38), previous history of skin disease (AOR: 2.74, 95% CI: 1.41– 5.30), exchange of clothes and towels with other family members (AOR: 1.50, 95% CI: 1.09– 2.85), presence of trauma in the last one month (AOR: 2.09, 95% CI: 1.18– 3.72) and not being a member of health insurance (AOR: 1.95, 95% CI: 1.16– 3.28) has been found.Conclusion: The point prevalence of any skin disorder is alarmingly high. The commonest disorders found in this study were simple and could usually be cured easily. Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is one of the most common skin diseases among teenagers and is treated based on its severity. Mild acne is treated with topical agents, while moderate and severe acne are treated with a combination of topical and systemic agents. Topical agents that are often used for acne are antibiotics, such as topical clindamycin. Widespread use of antibiotics to treat AV causes resistance problems. Therefore, alternative therapies are needed to prevent resistance to topical clindamycin, such as topical niacinamide, which has anti-inflammatory effects without inducing resistance problems. Purpose: To compare the efficacy of topical clindamycin and topical niacinamide in mild to moderate AV. Methods: In this systematic review, a literature search was carried out through 6 databases, following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Inclusion criteria were written in English or Indonesian, published in 2010-2020, randomized controlled trial (RCT) study design, conducted on human samples, and discussed the efficacy comparison of topical clindamycin and niacinamide in mild to moderate AV. Studies that were not accessible in full-text and based on secondary data were excluded. Quality and risk of bias assessments were done using The Jadad Scale and Risk of Bias 2 (RoB 2). Result: Acne severity was reduced significantly in both topical clindamycin and niacinamide groups, and there was no efficacy difference between these groups. Both topical clindamycin and topical niacinamide can cause mild side effects. Conclusion: Topical niacinamide can be an alternative therapy to topical clindamycin because they are both effective in treating mild to moderate AV.

Background: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is an uncommon group of inherited disorders characterized by skin blistering after friction or mechanical trauma. EB affects patients and their families physically, socially, and emotionally. Objective: This study aimed to assess the family quality of life of these patients using the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) questionnaire. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled caregivers of patients with EB registered at the Molecular Dermatology Research Center, affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, up to 2020. Participants filled out a demographic data collection form and the FDLQI questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 22. Results: Overall, 80 participants, consisting of 65 mothers (81.2%) and 15 fathers (18.7%) as primary caregivers, were enrolled in this study. The average FDLQI score was 19.88 ± 4.71. The FDLQI scores of caregivers of patients with EB simplex was significantly lower than scores observed in those with other types of EB (p < .001). There was a significant positive association between the number of patients with EB in the family and FDLQI score (p = .049). FDLQI scores were lower in caregiving mothers who had a higher education (p < .001) and those who were employed (p < .001). Conclusion: Family quality of life is affected in patients with EB. Families with lower socioeconomic status and unemployed caregivers require special attention. More studies are needed to determine the parameters involved in the quality of life of patients with EB and their families.
