The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal (MS) disorders in practicing German dentists and identify risk factors for pain chronification. This was a cross-sectional, quantitative, questionnaire-based study in which the validated German version of the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Questionnaire was sent out to practicing German dentists. Of the 8,072 questionnaires sent out, 576 dentists responded (60.2% men, 39.8% women; mean [SD] age, 50 [10.1] years; response rate, 7.1%). Overall, 344 dentists had current pain at 719 pain sites (point prevalence, 59.7%). The risk of chronic pain in dentists with current MS pain was high in 28.5% (n = 98), moderate in 30.5% (n = 105), and low in 41% (n = 141). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that specialization in restorative dentistry was associated with a significantly higher risk of experiencing pain chronification (odds ratio [OR], 3.94; P =.008), followed by specialization in pediatric dentistry (OR, 0.35; P =.048). A history of current pain, particularly current leg pain, was predictive of higher chronification risk (OR, 22.0; P <.001) and neck pain (OR, 4.51; P =.001). Almost two-thirds of practicing German dentists have MS pain, and one-third of these have a moderate through high risk of developing pain chronification. These health problems have an adverse impact on their ability to successfully perform dental services, with the potential for prolonged sick leave, disability, and early retirement. Accordingly, these problems deserve greater attention from the scientific community (identification of risk factors), universities (sensitization and education), and policy makers (development and implementation of appropriate countermeasures for MS disorders in the dental profession). Knowing the risk factors associated with acute and chronic MS pain may help dentists take preventive measures and thereby improve their physical well-being and work-related quality of life. The overarching goal of the third scientific oral health symposium was to introduce the concept of a learning health system to the dental community and to identify and discuss cutting-edge research and strategies using data for improving the quality of dental care and patient safety. Conference participants included clinically active dentists, dental researchers, quality improvement experts, informaticians, insurers, EHR vendors/developers, and members of dental professional organizations and dental service organizations. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the lightness difference perceptibility and acceptability thresholds, for a single maxillary central incisor, and to investigate possible differences in these thresholds regarding the direction (+ΔL* vs. −ΔL*), the observer group (dentists vs. laypersons), and the gender and age of the observers. Materials and Methods: A series of images with varying lightness (L*), were created by altering the right maxillary central incisor of a male Caucasian, on a frontal view full‐portrait image. Digital modification of one central incisor by 1 ΔL* unit resulted in 15 different images: one control, seven with increased and seven with decreased lightness. The images were presented in random order, on a digitally calibrated monitor, to 158 observers, grouped into 79 dentists, and 79 laypersons, who were asked to evaluate every image and answer whether they perceive a difference and if yes, whether they accept this difference. A multifactorial analysis of covariance was performed to analyze the perception and acceptance of any difference in the central incisors and to estimate the thresholds. The statistical significance level was α = 0.05. Results: Overall, the magnitude of ΔL*, direction of ΔL*, observer group and age were each significant (p < 0.001), as was gender (p = 0.03). The effect of the magnitude of ΔL* interacted with its direction and the observer group (p = 0.045), and the effect of age interacted with the direction of ΔL*, and the gender and the group of the observers. Estimated 50%:50% perceptibility thresholds ranged from 0.1 to 2.7, and 50%:50% acceptability thresholds ranged from 2.3 to 4.5. Overall, dentists perceived lightness differences at lower magnitudes than laypersons; difference in lightness was perceived and accepted at lower magnitudes when the tooth become lighter instead of darker; and female observers perceived and accepted lightness differences at lower magnitudes compared to males. As age increased overall, differences of lightness were perceived and accepted at higher magnitudes. Conclusions: Perceptibility and acceptability of lightness differences of a single maxillary central incisor are affected by the magnitude and the direction of lightness change, as well as the gender, the age, and the type of the observers. Clinical Significance: Even small changes in lightness are perceivable; however, thresholds of perception and acceptance are dependent on the magnitude and the direction of change and are also dependent on the observer, with women, dentists and younger people perceiving and accepting changes at lower magnitudes of ΔL*. Introduction: Esthetics plays a crucial role in orthodontics and many other dental and medical fields. To date, no study has assessed the combined effects of the 3 facial features 'facial height, gingival display (GD), and buccal corridor size (BC)' on facial/smile beauty. Therefore, this study was conducted for the first time. Methods: In this psychometric diagnostic study, beauty of 27 randomized perceptometric images of a female model with variations in facial heights (short, normal, long), gingival displays (0, 2, 4, 6 mm), and buccal corridor sizes (2%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%) were evaluated by 108 judges (36 orthodontists, 36 dentists, 36 laypeople) using a 5-scale Likert scale (1 to 5). Combined effects of facial heights, GDs, BCs, judges' sexes, ages, and jobs, and their 2-way interactions were tested using a mixed-model multiple linear regression and a Bonferroni test. Zones of ideal features were determined for all judges and also for each group using repeated-measures ANOVAs and the Bonferroni test (α=0.05). Results: Judges' sex but not their age or expertise might affect their perception of female beauty: men gave higher scores. The normal face was perceived as more beautiful than the long face (the short face being the least attractive). Zero GD was the most attractive followed by 4 mm; 6 mm was the least appealing. BCs of 15% followed by 10% were the most attractive ones, while 25% BC was the worst. The zone of ideal anatomy was: long face + 0mm GD + 15% BC; normal face + 2mm GD + 15% BC; long face + 2mm GD + 15% BC; normal face + 0mm GD + 15% BC. Study Design: Cross-sectional Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and awareness in dentists on the computer technology applications in surgical implant dentistry. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted after receiving clarifications regarding the objectives of the research and signing a statement of informed consent. The participants of the study comprised of total number of 300 dental surgeons (Male-186; Female-114) with age range from 20- to 55- years-old to understand the knowledge, attitude, and perception among dentists on the computer technology applications in surgical implant dentistry. The questionnaire was formulated and given and data was collected from dental surgeon. The data were entered and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 20). A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The majority of participants, 198(66%) were said that they were aware of the use of digital technologies in your practice? (e.g.-RVG, CBCT, Intraoral Scanner). Majority of participants 267(89%) agreed that currently available digital technologies users friendly. Participants 155 (52%) stated that they will prefer OPG as imaging modality while planning implants. Majority of the dentists 219 (73%) agreed that their patients would prefer implant placement over conventional methods for replacing tooth. Conclusions: Study findings revealed that dental professionals possess a high level of knowledge and education towards dental implants with digital applications. However, further progress is needed on all educational levels, in addition to advanced level training of dental implant placement for the purpose of enabling dentists to carry out dental implant procedures with a higher level of confidence. As part of creating a beautiful smile, aesthetic dental rehabilitation plays an important role. Regarding aesthetic analy-sis in the context of oral rehabilitation and treatment predictability, Digital Smile Design (DSD), mainly through plat-forms like SmileCloud®, provides invaluable resources. Our prospective study aimed to examine the relationship be-tween the clinical experience of dental practitioners and their proficiency in using DSD (SmileCloud). Additionally, the study assessed the association between previsualization scores and the category of respondents in terms of their connec-tion to the field of dentistry (laypeople, dental students, and dentists). The study included 11 subjects for whom three different dental practitioners (a 2nd and a 6th-year dental student and a 2nd-year resident doctor in Prosthodontics) created a DSD using SmileCloud. The DSDs were evaluated in an online survey regarding tooth colour, shape, and over-all smile appearance. A number of 220 responses have been collected from 48 dentists, 86 dental students and 86 lay-people. The DSD created by the 2nd year resident doctor in Prosthodontics has received significantly higher scores for tooth shape and overall smile appearance (p<0.05), as well as for the design (p<0.05) and design*respondent (p<0.05) variables. The aim of this pilot study was to assess the efficacy of a desensitization program developed by dentists and occupational therapists, targeted at autistic adults, to encourage their cooperation in the dental setting. The study group consisted of 18 individuals with autism (10 men and 8 women, aged 18–45 years). The patients underwent a baseline examination, after which they were progressively exposed to oral examination maneuvers and ultimately dental procedures. To this end, the participants engaged in a weekly desensitization session performed by an occupational therapist and a monthly assessment session by a dentist applying the Frankl scale, for a maximum period of 30 weeks. During the first session, 44% of the participants completed all oral examination procedures, reaching 94% by the fourth visit and 100% by the seventh visit. None of the participants completed a simple dental treatment up to the third session, subsequently increasing the percentage progressively until reaching a maximum of 61% in the seventh visit. In conclusion, a dental desensitization program implemented by dentists and occupational therapists could help in performing oral examinations and simple therapeutic procedures for a considerable percentage of adults with autism, without having to resort to pharmacological behavioral control techniques. Managing patients with autism in the dental clinic often requires resorting to pharmacological behavioral control techniques, including general anesthesia. References in the literature to desensitization programs are scarce and focus on training children with autism to undergo oral examinations and preventive procedures. This study shows that a dental desensitization program implemented by dentists and occupational therapists could help in performing not only oral examinations but also simple dental therapeutic procedures for a considerable percentage of adults with autism, without using a pharmacological intervention (sedation or general anesthesia). Introduction: The study aimed to determine satisfaction level with the quality of education among dental students and dentists in Croatia based on the acquired knowledge and clinical and soft skills. Materials and Methods: An online cross‐sectional survey was conducted among 533 dentists and dental students. The questionnaire consisted of four sections with closed‐ended questions. The first section included personal and professional data, whereas the second to fourth sections assessed satisfaction with learned basic dental, professional technical or clinal and interpersonal social or soft skills on a 5‐point Likert scale. The data were analysed using the Mann–Whitney U‐test and linear regression analysis. The significance level was set at.05. Results: When comparing satisfaction scores between dentists and dental students in terms of basic dental knowledge and skills learned, students showed higher satisfaction scores for the categories of "Emergency Medical Situations" (p =.005) and "Ergonomic Principles of Work" (p =.004). Dentists, on the other hand, showed higher satisfaction for the categories "Selection and use of local anaesthetics and local antibiotics" (p =.005, p =.026; respectively). For the type of technical skills from the different areas of dentistry, dentists were most satisfied with "Oral Surgery" (4.26 ± 0.85), while students were most satisfied with "Oral Medicine" (4.29 ± 0.89). Finally, when comparing satisfaction scores with social skills, dentists had lower satisfaction scores in all categories studied (p ≤.05). Conclusion: Dental students showed higher overall satisfaction than dentists. The most significant satisfaction was expressed in technical skills learned, and the most considerable dissatisfaction was recorded in the unmeasurable skills category focused on "Career management". Purpose: To evaluate the current knowledge and usage of silver diammine fluoride (SDF) by general dentists in Louisiana and to identify primary barriers to the implementation of SDF. Methods: A 16-item survey was emailed to 1719 Louisiana Dental Association members to identify factors influencing general dentists' usage of SDF. Results: Eighty-two surveys were completed with a response rate of 4.8 percent, with 69 identified as general dentists. Over half of the respondents were male (53.6%) and their practice experience ranged from less than one year to 48 years. The majority were solo owners (43.5%) while 7.3 percent had jobs in the corporate setting. Most agreed/strongly agreed that their knowledge of SDF was from either dental journals or online resources, while fewer stated they were taught about SDF (25%) or used SDF (8%) in dental school. The majority knew the advantages and off-label usage of SDF. However, only 40 percent recognized that SDF was officially approved for tooth hypersensitivity only. The most reported perceived barrier to SDF implementation was not learning about SDF in dental school (36%). Conclusion: There is a lack of understanding of SDF usage among Louisiana general dentists. Introduction: Several variables can impact the choice of shade. Having a thorough understanding of these factors and following the proper selection technique is crucial for achieving favorable esthetic results. Aim of the study: To review the characteristics of esthetic perception of teeth in different lighting conditions, by individuals with different levels of experience in dentistry. Material and methods: Thirty volunteers, dentistry students, and general dentists were recruited. The participants were asked to determine the color of 4 mock-ups containing artificial teeth, under standardized conditions. Therefore, the samples were introduced in a custom-made box and illuminated by two different light conditions (4300 K and 5500 K), and three different colors (black, gray, and pink) were selected as background colors. Results: Our results showed a statistically significant difference between the two examined light conditions, the number of correct color determinations was significantly higher under the light with a color temperature of 5500K (p<0.00001). It can be seen that the gray background color proved to be statistically significantly more beneficial than the black and pink background colors. Conclusions: Among dentistry students and practitioners, environmental changes that affect shade determination have been demonstrated. Further research is still necessary regarding the perception of the esthetic expectations of dental treatments for color determination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of the study was to explore how dental practitioners in primary care settings perceive the impact of enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) upon patient communication and wider clinical practice. Methods: This study utilized a qualitative approach, rooted in critical realism. An interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) methodology was adopted as the study method. In accordance with IPA, in‐depth semi‐structured interviews were conducted. Eight dental practitioners were recruited, with data analysis conducted according to the principles of IPA. Results: Three themes were synthesized (related to communication and clinical practice): (1) Impaired communication and relationship building; (2) Physical impacts and required adjustments when wearing enhanced‐PPE; and (3) Psychological stress of implementing enhanced‐PPE. Theme one reflects changes to the dynamic of communication between patients and colleagues brought about by enhanced‐PPE. Theme two describes the physical and psychological strains of providing care in enhanced‐PPE and the ways through which practitioners tried to overcome these challenges. Theme three explores how the roll‐out and guidance related to the use of enhanced‐PPE affected clinical practice. Conclusions: Dental Practitioners described several barriers to communication as well as physical and mental stressors caused by enhanced‐PPE, all of which were perceived to impact upon the quality of care provided to patients. Further research is required to develop effective interventions to mitigate the impact of enhanced‐PPE upon clinical practice and to explore the long‐term impact of enhanced‐PPE on clinical practice, post‐COVID. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate how education level affects dental service utilization patterns in the Australian adult population. This study tested how education level mediated these service patterns through behavioural mediators such as smoking, tooth brushing and oral health status and investigated these mediation effects in different dental service providers. Method: Following the flexible mediation approach, the direct and indirect effects of education through behavioural mediators on dental service utilization patterns (time of last dental visit, reason for last dental visit and frequency of seeking dental care) were calculated for the South Australian population from the Dental Care and Oral Health Study. Results: Participants with lower educational attainment were 33% (Odds Ratio: 0.67, 95% CI 0.56–0.78) and 38% (Odds Ratio: 0.62, 95% CI 0.53–0.74), less likely than their counterparts with higher education to visit a dentist or to receive dental care in the last 12 months, respectively. Low education was associated with a 23% increase in odds of receiving emergency and treatment services (Odds Ratio: 1.23, 95% CI 1.05–1.43) compared to routine dental check‐ups or examinations. Conclusion: Low education, regardless of oral health behaviours and status, reduces the odds of dental service utilization in terms of frequency of seeking dental care and time of last dental visit. There is more tendency towards receiving emergency and treatment services compared to routine dental check‐ups or examinations in participants with lower educational attainment. Objectives: The COVID-19 epidemic upset the standards in terms of hygiene and protection in the dental office, bringing additional precautions for dentists. The objective of our study was to draw the "new normal" of hygiene measures at the end of the COVID-19 epidemic. Materials and methods: A self-administered questionnaire about transitional recommendations for oral care in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic was published online in private groups dedicated to French dentists. Results: The 246 respondents understood the reasons behind those recommendations, since 10 out of 11 measures reached a mean score greater than 2.5 on a 0 (not at all) to 4 (absolutely) scale when it came to determining whether the measure made the practitioner feel safe and ensured patient safety. Besides, more of the respondents intended to maintain the measures than they were to apply them before the epidemic. Conclusions: The COVID-19 epidemic reshaped the relationship to hygiene and protection measures in the context of dental practices. The "new normal" of hygiene measures at the end of the COVID-19 epidemic will probably involve more protective measures than before. Clinical relevance: These results constitute interesting avenues for public health deliberation, which would make it possible to best adapt future health recommendations in order to define the "new normal" of hygiene measures in dental practices at the end of the COVID-19 epidemic. A global survey among dentists was used to identify the various impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on this professional group. Special attention was given to perception and assessment of infection risk. From May to August 2020, the questionnaire was delivered in 36 countries by respective research groups and was completed by 52,491 dental professionals. The survey was designed as a cross-sectional survey based on a previously standardized questionnaire. This study focuses on the part of the questionnaire that deals with the perception of the infection risk of COVID-19 by dentists and their patients. A logistic regression model was used, which consisted of four Likert items as response options and the additional self-reported routine or emergency treatment as the dependent variable. Analysis by continent found that European and Asian dentists were particularly likely to be infected at work (OR = 1.45 95%CI = 1.02/1.84 and OR = 2.68, 95%CI = 1.45/3.22, respectively), while it was likely that Australian dentists did not feel particularly at risk due to low infection rates. Three quarters of Americans treated only emergencies during this survey period, while Europeans (64.71%) and Asians (66.67%) provided mostly routine care. This could affect the Europeans' confidence that they would not be able to protect themselves from infections in the long-term. The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on dental professionals' infection risk perception is determined by the geographical origin of dentists. This study shows that, especially in high-incidence countries, infection risk perception was higher when dentists tried to provide routine dental procedures to their patients. Dental professionals can offer themselves and their patients good protection by maintaining high standards of hygiene. However, their concerns should be taken seriously and the dental professionals' group that is of great importance for oral health care and prevention, should not be neglected in the future, even in the event of emerging pandemics. The aim was to evaluate the establishment of an aseptic endodontic operative field in general dentistry by assessing general dentists' ability to reduce the amount of contamination to a non-cultivable level, and to compare the operative field asepsis at a general dentistry clinic with that at an endodontic specialist clinic. A total of 353 teeth were included in the study (153 in general dentistry, 200 at the specialist clinic). After isolation, control samples were taken, the operative fields disinfected with 30% hydrogen peroxide (1 min) followed by 5% iodine tincture or.5% chlorhexidine solution. Samples were collected from the access cavity area and buccal area, placed in a fluid thioglycolate medium, incubated (37°, 7 d), evaluated for growth/non-growth. Significantly more contamination was observed at the general dentistry clinic (31.6%, 95/301), than at the endodontic specialist clinic (7.0%, 27/386) (p <.001). In general dentistry, significantly more positive samples were collected in the buccal area than in the occlusal area. Significantly more positive samples were collected when the chlorhexidine protocol had been used, both in general dentistry (p <.001) and at the specialist clinic (p =.028). The result from this study shows insufficient endodontic aseptic control in general dentistry. At the specialist clinic, both disinfection protocols were able to reduce the amount of microorganisms to a non-cultivable level. The observed difference between the protocols may not reflect a true difference in the effectiveness of the antimicrobial solutions, as confounding factors may have contributed to the result. Background: Few terms and concepts have been so extensively debated in dentistry as the words 'centric relation' (CR). Debates involve its biological, diagnostic and therapeutic usefulness. Methods: A review of the literature on the current concepts on CR as a diagnostic or therapeutic aid in dentistry was provided. Clinical trials assessing the superiority of one CR recording method over the others to identify patients with temporomandibular disorders (diagnostic use) or to manage patients with prosthodontic or orthodontic needs (therapeutic use) were tentatively included. Results: Due to the absence of literature addressing either of the above targets, a comprehensive overview was provided. The diagnostic use of CR as a reference position to identify the correct position of the temporomandibular joint condyle within the glenoid fossa is not supported and lacks anatomical support. From a therapeutic standpoint, the use of CR can be pragmatically useful in prosthodontics as a maxillo‐mandibular reference position when occlusal re‐organization is warranted and/or when the position of maximum intercuspation is no longer available. Conclusions: The derived occlusal goals from a diagnostic misuse of CR are generally the result of circular reasoning, that is a technique is based on the recording of a certain condylar position that is believed to be 'ideal' and the treatment is considered successful when such position is shown by the specific instrument that was manufactured for that purpose. Background: Dental implant placement is a critical procedure in modern dentistry, requiring precise treatment planning to ensure successful outcomes. Traditionally, treatment planning has relied on the expertise of clinicians, but recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have opened up the possibility of AI-assisted treatment planning. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients requiring dental implant placement were included in this comparative study. For each patient, a clinical treatment plan was created by an experienced dentist, while an AI algorithm, trained on a dataset of implant placement cases, generated an alternative plan. Various parameters, including implant position, angulation, and depth, were compared between the two plans. Surgical templates were fabricated based on both plans to guide implant placement accurately. Results: The results of this study indicate that AI-generated treatment plans closely align with clinical plans in terms of implant positioning, angulation, and depth. Mean discrepancies of less than 1 mm and 2 degrees were observed for implant position and angulation, respectively, between the two planning methods. The AI-generated plans also showed a reduction in planning time, averaging 10 min compared to the clinical planning, which averaged 30 min per case. Additionally, the surgical templates based on AI-generated plans exhibited similar accuracy in implant placement as those based on clinical plans. Background: Ocular health is significant as undetected and untreated eye conditions can lead to vision loss and blindness. Usually, dentists, dental assisting staff, and patients undergoing frequent dental corrections are likely affected by eye injuries. Methods: This survey aimed to evaluate eye safety protocols in the dental fraternity. A prevalidated questionnaire was given to practicing graduate and postgraduate dentists to obtain details of the eye safety protocol they adopted. Results: A total of 150 dentists approached; only 125 chose to participate in the survey and answered our questionnaire. Although most dentists used eye protection for themselves, primarily personal eyeglasses and face shields, eye injury was quite common in them. Introduction: Dentists educated outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland have the option to undergo proficiency testing to practice dentistry in Sweden. A standardised evidence‐based procedure for proficiency tests is crucial. This paper explores if the standard setting of the theoretical examination in the Swedish proficiency test for foreign dentists is fit to differentiate candidates who meet the acceptable standard for licensure from those who do not, by analysis of inter‐rater reliability and credibility of Angoff panels and the test's ability to differentiate candidates regarding learning outcomes and dental disciplines. Materials and Methods: In a cohort study design, test results were collected from seven examinations during 2018–2019 (n = 316), combined with Angoff judgements and demographic data from The National Board of Health and Welfare. Intraclass correlation, Pearson correlation and linear regression were calculated. Results: All exams demonstrated substantial judge inter‐rater reliability using the Angoff procedure (0.65–0.82). Item difficulty predicted by the expert panels showed significant positive correlations with the item difficulty by candidate results (0.69–0.77). Candidates who did not meet the requirements for pass mark in the theoretical test revealed a significantly reduced performance overall in professional qualifications (i.e., learning outcomes) and reduced performance within dental disciplines. Conclusions: The results indicate that a modified Angoff method is a feasible, simple, and defensible method for setting the pass mark for the theoretical examinations. The standard setting appears to differentiate candidates who do not meet the requirements of the professional qualifications of the dental degree. Infective endocarditis is an inflammatory disease that affects the endocardium and may originate in the oral cavity, which is considered the most frequent source of microorganisms associated with bacteremia. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and practices adopted by dentists for the prevention of infective endocarditis (IE). Observational studies performed with dentists assessing their knowledge and practices for preventing IE were included, based on the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. Studies with dental students or other professionals, studies in which it was not possible to isolate AHA or dentist data, studies with non-infective endocarditis, all types of reviews, editorial letters, conference abstracts, pilot studies, case reports and case series, opinion articles, technical articles, and intervention studies, were excluded. Searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, CINAHL and gray literature. Two independent reviewers evaluated and participated in the selection and eligibility steps up to data extraction. The Joanna Briggs Institute checklist was used to assess methodological quality and risk of bias. Twentytwo of the 1085 studies identified, were included. Twelve studies approached knowledge of IE and practices adopted by professionals to prevent morbidity. Seven studies were considered to be at moderate risk of bias, and 15 at low risk. Aim: To explore the implications for dentists and family doctors of the association between periodontal and systemic diseases and the role of dentists and family doctors in managing non‐communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting healthy lifestyles. Materials and Methods: The consensus reports of the previous Focused Workshops on the associations between periodontitis and diabetes (2017) and periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases (2019) formed the technical reviews to underpin discussions on both topics. For the association with respiratory diseases, a systematic review was specifically commissioned for the Workshop discussions. Working groups prepared proposals independently, and then the proposals were discussed and approved at plenary meetings. Results: Periodontitis is independently associated with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obstructive sleep apnea and COVID‐19 complications. Dentists and family doctors should collaborate in managing NCDs, implementing strategies for early detection of periodontitis in primary care centres and of cardiovascular diseases or diabetes in dental settings. Family doctors should be informed about periodontal diseases and their consequences, and oral health professionals (OHPs) should be informed about the relevance of NCDs and the associated risk factors. Conclusions: Closer collaboration between OHPs and family doctors is important in the early detection and management of NCDs and in promoting healthy lifestyles. In this paper, we seek to understand feminization of the dentist workforce moving beyond previous research that has looked at gender in isolation. We contend that little consideration has been given to how gender interacts with other important social identities such as race/ethnicity to influence the opportunities and barriers that female dentists encounter during their dental career. We argue that the scholarly debate about the feminization of the dentistry has not acknowledged the intersectionality of women's lives. Intersectionality describes how multiple social identities (such as race/ethnicity, gender, and class) overlap and interact to inform outcomes, creating disadvantages and/or privileges. Our thesis is that the increasing feminization of the dentist workforce is complicated and paradoxical, creating both opportunities for women and gender imbalances and blockages within the profession. To support our thesis, we critically reviewed the literature on feminization and analysed UK and US workforce data. While the female dentist workforce in both the UK and the US has increased significantly over the past decade, the growth in the number of female dentists was not equal across all racial/ethnic groups. The largest increase in the number of female dentists was among White and Asian women. Viewing the feminization of the dentist workforce through an intersectionality lens exposes the multiple and complex experiences of women, as well as the power dynamics in dentistry. Feminization in dentistry demonstrates the importance of presence, privilege, and power. Based on our assessment of the dentist workforce, dentistry may be less inclusive, despite being perceived as more diverse. Further research should explore how power and privilege may operate in dentistry. Dentistry should embrace intersectionality to provide an inclusive evaluation of equity in the workforce. Introduction: the need for age assessment remains relevant due to unregistered births or lack of identification documents as a result of political and socioeconomic conflicts. Dentists play a significant role in age assessment. In order to establish the need for capacity building and collaboration, the study set out to determine the proportion of dental patients referred for age assessment and their sources of referral. Methods: a cross-sectional study, based on 5-year records (2014-2018) of dental patients and a selected sample of 316 patients who visited for age assessment in 2019- 2020 in the same hospitals. The study centers were 8 county hospitals. Variables included gender, dental visits, health facility, and sources of referral. One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Fisher's Exact test were used to identify a significant association between variables. Results: from the records, 12,738 (5.7%) patients sought age assessment services. Females 6,410 (50.3%) and males 6,328 (49.7%) were nearly equal. There was a statistically significant difference in the average number of patients who required age assessment services from different facilities, p=0.000. The selected sample comprised of 186 (58.9%) and 130 (41.1%) males and females respectively. Sources of referral included; court of law (267, 84.5%), prior to acquiring identification documents (47, 14.9%), and others (2, 0.6%). Conclusion: an average of 5% of dental patients seek age assessment services signifying the need for sustained capacity building so as to ensure competent service delivery. The majority of the sampled patients were referrals from the court of law. Background and aims. Sustainability is the sensitive and responsible way of using the natural resources, its goal being to prevent their depletion and preserving the ecological balance. An essential requirement to achieve this is to practice environmentally conscious behavior. The main objective of the present study was to carry out a survey among dentists about the importance of sustainability, feasibility of an environmentally friendly dental practice and the steps in favor of it. Methods. An online survey with 6 question groups, including a total of 50 questions, was performed. The survey was available online for dentists on different platforms. In total 98 responses were recorded during September - November 2020. Results. Out of the responding dentists, 74.49% liked the idea of an environmentally friendly dental practice and 98.97% would take some steps toward environmental awareness in their practice. A statistically significant (p<0.05) difference between those who prefer an environmentally conscious practice and those who had not yet thought about it was only in the questions related to environmentally conscious lifestyle in their household, the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, the creation of a 'green wall' and selective waste collection in their practice. Conclusions. Most of the respondents were open to the idea of forming an environmentally conscious dental practice and they would act to achieve it. In order to reach this, it is necessary to provide dentists with feasible solutions for better practice. Some of the guidance issues, which would be easy to implement, are listed at the end of the present study. We intend to provide a guidance regarding sustainable dental practice. The aim of this study was to measure the satisfaction of patients treated in a dental hospital using a validated questionnaire on patient-dentist communication and investigate factors associated with satisfaction. Patients in the dental clinic answered 2 questionnaires: Dental Patient Feedback on Consultation (DPFC) and another regarding their oral health perceptions using a visual analog scale (VAS) and sociodemographic backgrounds. The correlation between patient's satisfaction and other numerical variables was determined using Spearman's test. The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used to compare the patient's satisfaction scores and the categories of the independent variables (p=0.05). The median DPFC score was 2.9. All participants were very satisfied considering the active dentist listening (Q3) and the dental treatment advices (Q16). The lowest score was observed about family habits and medical history in oral health (Q9:2.0). With respect to their oral health perceptions, the majority of the participants demonstrated satisfaction with their chewing, smile and dental aesthetics. Being younger than 40 years influenced the satisfaction with oral health satisfaction when the VAS score was analyzed. The skin colour (p=0.001 and p=0.005) and the marital status (p=0.001 and p=0.006) of the participants also demonstrated a statistically positive signiticant correlation between DPFC and VAS scores, respectively. There was a high level of patient's satisfaction with the ability of the dentist to communicate in the dental hospital analyzed. Qualitative interviews with dentists offered possible intervention targets to expand implementation of safe opioid prescribing for acute dental pain management within the Veterans Affairs. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States and provides dental care to approximately one-half million veterans annually. In response to the opioid crisis, the VA released several opioid risk mitigation strategies. Although opioid prescribing by VA dentists has decreased on the whole, the implementation experiences at the level of dentists remains unclear. Our objective was to explore the barriers and facilitators that affect opioid decision making for management of acute dental pain among VA dentists. Dentists practicing in the VA facilities with the highest and lowest volume of opioid prescriptions were recruited. Standardized qualitative interviews by telephone followed a semistructured guide designed around the Capability (C), Opportunity (O), Motivation (M), and Behaviour (B) model. Audio recordings were transcribed and independently double-coded using NVivo to identify potential targets for future guideline-based opioid interventions. Of 395 eligible general and specialty dentists, 90 (24.8%) completed an interview representing 33 VA facilities. Opportunities for prescribing opioids included 1) completion of dental procedures associated with acute dental pain, 2) caring for patients who presented with existing dental pain, and 3) responding to patient opioid requests. Capabilities included using resources (eg, electronic medical records), clinical judgement (eg, evaluation of medical history including medication use), communication skills, and ability to screen for opioid misuse. Motivation themes focused on alleviating patients' acute dental pain. Barriers and facilitators of opioid prescribing varied across facilities. Dentistry is a very compassionate field, making it perfect for anybody who wishes to assist others. Dentistry has always been a male-dominated field, but in the last two to three decades more and more women have started going to dental college, and the percentage of women in dentistry has been gradually increasing. There are now more women dentists than ever, and at present women graduates in dentistry outnumber men. Female dentists may find it difficult to strike a healthy work-life balance, but many of them do it with success. Given their intelligence, creativity, and resourcefulness, women are all powerful forces to be reckoned with. They serve as role models and aid others in successfully pursuing careers in dentistry. The behavioral mechanisms behind the choice of career differ between men and women, and the inclination to care for others is thought by some to be more present in women than it is in men. Introduction: Dental students' satisfaction with their own career can significantly improve the quality of care provided to patients. The aim of the current study was to assess the level of career satisfaction amongst Saudi dental students and dentists. Materials and methods: A cross‑sectional survey was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020 all over Saudi Arabia. A sample of 750 Saudi dental students and dentists were invited to complete an online questionnaire. The questionnaire was composed of two sections of closed‐ended questions. The first section included personal, professional background factors and level of career satisfaction assessed. The second section included different reasons for choosing dentistry as a career. Multivariable linear regression was used at significance <0.05. Results: Only 674 responded to the questionnaire. About half of the included respondents were males. Most of the participants were undergraduate students attended Saudi dental schools. 72.3% chose dentistry for helping other people. Graduated dentists had significantly lower satisfaction score than dental students (p =.007). Dentists, who chose dentistry because it is a secured job with good income (p <.001), had significantly lower satisfaction score than those who did not, whilst those who chose it for the social status had significantly higher satisfaction score than those who did not (p =.04). Conclusion: Dental students and dentists were motivated to choose dentistry as it is an opportunity to help others and achieve good salary with appropriate social position in community. Background: Climate change is the global variation in the climate on earth due to natural causes and pollution, gas emissions and carbon dioxide. Dentistry must actively participate to be eco-sustainable. Purpose: To analyze the role that Latin American dentistry should play to promote eco-sustainable development. Methods: An exploratory review of the literature was conducted in the databases of PubMed, ScienceDirect, SciELO, and Google Scholar. The search terms were sustainable development, Latin America, environmental medicine, environmental responsibility, dentistry, and oral health. Results: A framework for sustainable development is first established based on the analysis of three pillars (environment, economy and society) and the objectives of sustainable development. Second, the need to enact policies and recognize the importance of this issue by the dental profession and its impact on the environment is emphasized. Third, fundamental elements for ecosustainable dentistry are listed. Fourth, a model of good practices for the dental office is introduced. Conclusions: In Latin America, the commitment of the dental profession is to work institutionally and individually to provide eco-sustainable oral health. In the current context, the joint work of public and private institutions is required. Dentistry must modify the factors that support current behaviors and practices. Concrete actions must be implemented towards sustainability in oral health care, based on scientific evidence to reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink care policies, waste management, distribution logistics, education, research and production of eco-sustainable materials. Aim: Antibiotics are often prescribed for the treatment of various infections and prophylactic purposes in dental practice. Their improper use can cause microbial resistance to antibiotics, which poses a world-wide threat. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the knowl edge and attitudes of dentists and dentistry students about antibiotic prescription practices for prophylaxis and the treatment of dental infections in pediatric patients. Methods: A questionnaire was e-mailed to 2,100 dentists and 300 senior dentistry students. The questionnaire was filled out by the participants within a 2-month period (May–June 2020). A 30-point scoring system was developed to assess the knowledge levels of the dentists according to the guidelines. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed. One-way ANOVA test and the Chi-Squared test were used to compare qualitative variables. Results: The response rate was found to be 24.2% for dentists and 49% for senior dentistry students. 19.4% of the participants were found to be moderately knowl edge able and 80.6% of them were highly knowledgeable. Students' knowledge scores were found to be higher than the general dentists and other specialists (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between students and pedodontists. Conclusion: Dentists were found to have sufficient knowledge about the usage of antibiotics in children, but there is still a lack of information about circumstances under which antibiotics should not be prescribed. Dentists and dentistry students should attend continuing education programs to keep their information up-to-date and should also prescribe antibiotics in adherence with the current guidelines to prevent antibiotic resistance. Introduction: Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) is an alternative medical system and has found acceptance globally for its use of rich medical plants, minerals, and other natural commodities in treating different illness. In November 2020, AYUSH changed its curriculum guidelines for its postgraduate students, which allowed them to perform a variety of general surgery, including orthopedic, ophthalmology, Ear Nose Throat (ENT), and dental treatments. Aim: To assess the awareness and perception among the dentists of these new AYUSH guidelines and to record their opinion. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from January 2021 to February 2021. A self-constructed questionnaire of 15 questions was circulated via google forms. The response was collected from 123 dentists. Statistical analysis was done on the IBM software 24 version. Chi-square test was used to assess the relationship between dentists' awareness of dental procedures included under the new AYUSH curriculum and their perception of ayurvedic practitioners performing the dental treatment efficiently. Results: Only 58.5% (n=79) of dentists were aware of the term AYUSH and 53 (43%) dentists were aware of the new guidelines added to the postgraduate curriculum in AYUSH. About, 57.7% of dentists reported that the Ayurvedic practitioners cannot handle the complications occurring during dental procedures. Conclusion: Dentists were not in favor of AYUSH practitioners performing dental treatments. Research into work-related factors that positively influence Oral Health Providers (OHPs) health is scarce. This study aimed to analyse which OHPs in dental services remain healthy over time in relation to work- and health-related factors. OHPs took part in this prospective cohort study (n = 168). In 2012 and 2014 they answered a questionnaire featuring questions about demographics, health indicators, work and organisational factors. OHPs were classified into three subgroups; healthy group (n = 66), semi-healthy group (n = 45) and unhealthy group (n = 57). The healthy group reported no sick leave or sickness presence in 2012 or 2014. Factors that explained a greater likelihood of belonging to the healthy group were: good work ability, not having neck pain, perceived low exertion at the end of the working day, not having sleeping problems. They scored higher on health indicators than OHPs in the unhealthy group. OHPs with no sick leave or sickness presence report much better salutogenic health, better physical work ability and lower perceived exertion at the end of their workday compared with unhealthy group of OHPs. Brazil has become the epicenter of coronavirus disease, and the São Paulo State has the worst scenario. This study evaluated the effect of the COVID-19 in dentists of São Paulo State, Brazil. A self-administered web-based survey with 33 multiple-choice questions was sent to dentists. Descriptive statistics were used to assess the 302 valid responses. Data were analyzed by Chi-square, McNemar and Wilcoxon tests (α = 0.05). Most of the participants aged until 34 years (61.6%) and were female (74.5%). They reduced work to less than 20 h per week. Monthly remuneration was reduced (86.8%). Personal protective equipment at the office was changed (p < 0.05). A few dentists (7.6%) had COVID-19, and more than 99% were aware of the disease. Most of the participants (90.2%) were insecure about being contaminated. The dentists of São Paulo State had coronavirus knowledge and have adopted strict biosafety protocols, but the pandemic affected their financial and psychological features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Infectious diseases physicians are leaders in assessing the health risks in a variety of community settings. An understudied area with substantial controversy is the safety of dental aerosols. Previous studies have used in vitro experimental designs and/or indirect measures to evaluate bacteria and viruses from dental surfaces. However, these findings may overestimate the occupational risks of dental aerosols. The purpose of this study was to directly measure dental aerosol composition to assess the health risks for dental healthcare personnel and patients. Methods We used a variety of aerosol instruments to capture and measure the bacterial, viral, and inorganic composition of aerosols during a variety of common dental procedures and in a variety of dental office layouts. Equipment was placed in close proximity to dentists during each procedure to best approximate the health risk hazards from the perspective of dental healthcare personnel. Devices used to capture aerosols were set at physiologic respiration rates. Oral suction devices were per the discretion of the dentist. Results We detected very few bacteria and no viruses in dental aerosols—regardless of office layout. The bacteria identified were most consistent with either environmental or oral microbiota, suggesting a low risk of transmission of viable pathogens from patients to dental healthcare personnel. When analyzing restorative procedures involving amalgam removal, we detected inorganic elements consistent with amalgam fillings. Conclusions Aerosols generating from dental procedures pose a low health risk for bacterial and likely viral pathogens when common aerosol mitigation interventions, such as suction devices, are employed. Background: In the current pandemic context, dental professionals have greater occupational risks due to their healthcare activity, placing their expectations on the vaccine as a means of protection and at the same time hoping that the immunization process will be safe, reliable and comfortable, giving them greater peace of mind when they return to work. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to develop and provide a preliminary validation of a scale to measure perception of the COVID-19 vaccination process in Peruvian dental professionals.Methods: Cross-sectional study with instrumental design. The scale was self-administered virtually. It was distributed through social networks to 220 dental professionals from two universities in the Peruvian capital between June and August 2021. The Aiken V was used for content analysis, while descriptive statistics such as mean, variance, kurtosis and skewness were used for construct validation, in addition to Pearson's correlation matrix for analysis of the 18 items. Subsequently, a Parallel Analysis based on minimum rank factor analysis was performed. Finally, the reliability of the total scale and its dimensions was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha.Results: The Aiken V coefficient values were favorable for all items. Parallel analysis indicated the existence of three dimensions. Principal component analysis with rotation suggested grouping eight items for the first dimension, six items for the second dimension and four items for the third dimension. These dimensions showed good reliability, as Cronbach's alpha was 0.87, (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.84-0.90), 0.80 (95% CI: 0.75-0.84) and 0.82 (95% CI: 0.78-0.86), respectively. In addition, the overall reliability of the scale was 0.89 (95% CI: 0.86-0.91), being acceptable.Conclusions: The perception scale of the COVID-19 vaccination process in dental professionals proved preliminarily to be a valid and reliable scale that can be used for research purposes. Objective: To assess the level of depression, anxiety and stress in dental postgraduates by using DASS-21 scale. Study Design: Descriptive cross-sectional study. Place and Duration: Department of Prosthodontics, Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine, Karachi, from 1 st May 2022 to 30th August 2022. Methodology: This study was conducted on dental post graduates. DASS-21 validated scale was used to collect data from 100 participants. The data was analyzed with linear regression analysis to evaluate the relationship of independent variables with DASS21. A p-Value of ≤0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: The signs of depression were evident in 90% of post graduates. Regarding the causes of depression, 33.8% think saturation is the cause of depression followed by hectic schedules (21.3%), 21.3% marked pressure to pass the exams.13.8% of participants think that peer pressure is cause of depression. We also found that 10% of the participants. Moreover, dental sector faced major crisis during COVID-19 outbreak. 78.8% think that COVID-19 has increased the already existing depression. Conclusion: High levels of stress, anxiety and depression were evident in post graduates’ dentists. Stress levels were raised due to lack of post-graduation and job opportunity. Patient–provider cost conversations can minimize cost-related barriers to health, while improving treatment adherence and patient satisfaction. The authors sought to identify factors associated with the occurrence of cost conversations in dentistry. This was a cross-sectional study using data from an online, self-administered survey of US adults who had seen a dentist within the past 24 months at the time of the survey. Multivariable hierarchical logistic regression analysis was used to identify patient and provider characteristics associated with the occurrence of cost conversations. Of the 370 respondents, approximately two-thirds (68%) reported having a cost conversation with their dental provider during their last dental visit. Cost conversations were more likely for patients aged 25 through 34 years (odds ratio [OR], 2.84; 95% CI, 1.54 to 5.24), 35 through 44 years (OR, 3.35; 95% CI, 1.50 to 7.51), and 55 through 64 years (OR, 3.39; 95% CI, 1.38 to 8.28) than patients aged 18 through 24 years. Cost conversations were less likely to occur during visits with dental hygienists than during visits with general or family dentists (OR, 0.25; 95% CI, 0.11 to 0.58). In addition, respondents from the South (OR, 1.90; 95% CI, 1.04 to 3.48) and those screened for financial hardship were more likely to report having cost conversations with their dental providers (OR, 6.70; 95% CI, 2.69 to 16.71). Within the study sample, cost conversations were common and were facilitated via financial hardship screening. Modifying oral health care delivery processes to incorporate financial hardship screening may be an effective way to facilitate cost conversations and provision of patient-centered care. Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the frequency of musculoskeletal disorders and factors that may be related to dentists and the body regions that may be at risk due to the job using the Quick Exposure Check (QEC) method and to determine their relationship with musculoskeletal disorders. Material and Method: The population of the crosssectional study includes 200 dentists who provide outpatient services actively. Data collection consists of three parts (Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, Sociodemographic Characteristics/Working Conditions and Survey Containing Variables Related to Health, QEC Employee and. Observer Form). Results: The majority of the participants reported that they had musculoskeletal disorders in the last 12 months (92.1%): back (74,7%), lower back (74.7%), and neck (70%). QEC shoulder-arm and work load scores were medium; neck, waist, hand/wrist, and vibration scores were high; and stress scores were extremely high. The risk of experiencing musculoskeletal pain in the last 12 months was 4.1 times higher in dentists who did not exercise regularly compared to dentists who exercised regularly. Conclusion: The frequency of musculoskeletal disorders is found to be extremely high in dentists. According to the findings of the study, the risk of pain was higher in those with high risk assessment scores in the relevant region. Dental professionals are susceptible to a number of occupational hazards. Members of the dental team, including dentists, hygienists, dental nurses and radiographers, must ensure that local protocols are followed to minimize the risk. Relying on relevant literature, the present paper discusses selected occupational hazards – occupational biohazards, stressful situations, and latex hypersensitivity, as well as factors leading to the musculoskeletal system diseases and diseases of the peripheral nervous system. (1) Background: As an emerging topic, no known study to date has described interviews with US dentists regarding their experiences during the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with regard to office closures and their implications for both the dentists and the patients they serve, especially among dentists in their first decade of work and new to practice ownership roles. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of early-career US dentists during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. (2) Methods: This study utilized a semi-structured interview protocol and employed qualitative descriptive methodology. SPSS 26 and NVivo12 were utilized for data analysis. (3) Results: In April 2020, a total of 12 early-career US dentists completed the interview study protocol. The study sample majority was male (67%), with a mean age of 32 (range = 30–37) and an average of 6 years of dental practice experience (range = 5–10). Participants completed phone interviews with the research team. In summary, three organizing themes emerged: (1) Dentistry during COVID-19: Experiences during the first wave, (2) Long-term concerns regarding COVID-19, and (3) COVID-19 professional communication and dental research. (4) Conclusions: The chief findings of this study are dentists' long-term concerns for the profession post-COVID-19. Research must still determine how to best prepare for future infectious disease outbreaks with regards to safeguarding the health of the dental workforce and maintaining the oral health of patient populations. The purpose of this narrative review was to show that referred orofacial pain can be the chief symptom or a prominent symptom of visceral diseases of the chest and throat, with implications for dental and medical practice. A search of PubMed was performed to identify dentally relevant clinical case reports and case series using the following terms: jaw pain , orofacial pain , toothache , temporomandibular disorders , otalgia , neuralgia , and neuropathic pain crossed with angina , myocardial infarction , carotid artery , esophagus , mediastinum , thyroid , heart , pericardium , aorta , lung , thymus gland , and stomach. Numerous acute, visceral disorders of the throat and chest have been reported to produce pain in the orofacial region, which may be difficult to distinguish from dental-related diseases on the basis of symptoms alone. Chest organs and structures reported to cause such pain include the heart, aorta, esophagus, stomach, lungs, and mediastinum. Throat organs and structures reported to cause pain in the orofacial region include the thyroid gland, carotid arteries, and vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves. Coronary artery diseases, aortic and carotid dissection, mediastinal tumors, subacute thyroiditis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease have a predilection for referring pain orofacially. Misdiagnosis of referred visceral orofacial pain can lead to delayed diagnosis and unnecessary treatment. Dentists can play a key role in the management of these conditions by means of ruling out odontogenic facial pain, promptly referring patients to medical specialists, and educating patients. Future research is needed to determine the incidence and mechanism of orofacial pain in these disorders. Abstract: Although nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs are superior to opioids in dental pain management, opioids are still prescribed for dental pain in the United States. Little is known about the serious adverse outcomes of short-acting opioids within the context of dental prescribing. The objective of this study was to evaluate adverse outcomes and persistent opioid use (POU) after opioid prescriptions by dentists, based on whether opioids were overprescribed or within recommendations. A cross-sectional analysis of adults with a dental visit and corresponding opioid prescription (index) from 2011 to 2018 within a nationwide commercial claims database was conducted. Opioid overprescribing was defined as >120 morphine milligram equivalents per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. Generalized estimating equation models were used to assess adverse outcomes (emergency department visits, hospitalizations, newly diagnosed substance use disorder, naloxone administration, or death within 30 days from index) and POU (≥1 prescription 4-90 days postindex). Predicted probabilities are reported. Of 633,387 visits, 2.6% experienced an adverse outcome and 16.6% had POU. Adverse outcome risk was not different whether opioids were overprescribed or within recommendations (predicted probability 9.0%, confidence interval [CI]: 8.0%-10.2% vs 9.1%, CI: 8.1-10.3), but POU was higher when opioids were overprescribed (predicted probability 27.4%, CI: 26.1%-28.8% vs 25.2%, CI: 24.0%-26.5%). Visits associated with mild pain and those with substance use disorders had the highest risk of both outcomes. Findings from this study demonstrate that dental prescribing of opioids was associated with adverse outcomes and POU, even when prescriptions were concordant with guidelines. Objective. Teledentistry is considered to be a technological advancement in providing dental care to patients while effectively addressing the time management. Furthermore, the pandemic of COVID-19 has been here for quite long now, forcing the dental practitioners to ponder upon other methods of healthcare delivery apart from the traditional in-office direct clinical examination. The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions of dental professionals of Malaysia regarding teledentistry, which can act as a future pedestal for improvements in virtual dental practice and patient care. Materials and Methods. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional study involving an electronic survey of a sample of dental professionals of Malaysia. A prevalidated, 26-item, 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire was used in assessing the perceptions of dental professionals regarding teledentistry in four domains: existing concerns about teledentistry use, the potential of teledentistry in improving practice, usefulness of teledentistry for dental practice, and its usefulness for patients. Statistical analyses involved descriptive statistics which included frequency distributions. Results. An overall response rate of 31.0% was observed with 310 dental practitioners participating in the survey. More than 60% of respondents agreed that teledentistry would benefit the dental practice through enhancement of communication with peers, guidance, and new patients' referral. However, a substantial proportion of practitioners (70-80%) expressed uncertainty with accuracy of diagnosis, technical reliability, and privacy. Conclusion. Generally, the results of this study point towards the readiness of dental professionals of Malaysia to engage in teledentistry practice. However, further work needs to be done to assess the commercial feasibility of teledentistry, not only in Malaysia but also in other parts of the world. Background: There is a lack of information in the few studies reporting on the use of three-dimensional (3D) Printing for Patient Management. However, few studies have been found about recent advances in 3D printing technology, and biomaterials are revolutionizing medicine. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of new generation dentist towards 3D printing and its application in various aspects in the field of Prosthodontics. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study on dental practitioners/Prosthodontist throughout Saudi Arabia using a self-administered questionnaire, which had items to assess the knowledge attitude and practices of study participants toward the use of 3D printing in dental management. Results: It was observed 17.5% of our participants had complete information and 10.5% had no information about 3D printers in the field of dental medicine. When assessed, male dentists had complete information about 3D printers (17.5%) than females (0%). 43.9% of our participants "strongly agreed" for 3D printers to be implemented in dentistry, 40.4% had "no idea" regarding the experience of 3D prints. Conclusion: Very few dentists have knowledge of 3D printing application in dentistry. Hence we strongly recommend organizing continuing dental education programmed on 3D printing either with hand on workshops, conferences and regular updates on the use of this technology.
