Stable Zn anodes with a high utilization efficiency pose a challenge due to notorious dendrite growth and severe side reactions. Therefore, electrolyte additives are developed to address these issues. However, the additives are always consumed by the electrochemical reactions over cycling, affecting the cycling stability. Here, hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA) is reported as an electrolyte additive for achieving stable cycling of Zn anodes. HMPA reshapes the solvation structures and promotes anion decomposition, leading to the in situ formation of inorganic‐rich solid‐electrolyte‐interphase. More interestingly, this anion decomposition does not involve HMPA, preserving its long‐term impact on the electrolyte. Thus, the symmetric cells with HMPA in the electrolyte survive ≈500 h at 10 mA cm−2 for 10 mAh cm−2 or ≈200 h at 40 mA cm−2 for 10 mAh cm−2 with a Zn utilization rate of 85.6 %. The full cells of Zn||V2O5 exhibit a record‐high cumulative capacity even under a lean electrolyte condition (E/C ratio=12 μL mAh−1), a limited Zn supply (N/P ratio=1.8) and a high areal capacity (6.6 mAh cm−2). Three-dimensional hierarchical dendritic carbon structures with high densities of secondary carbon nanosheets have been fabricated using a solvothermal growth via reacting metal Na with tetrachloromethane in 200°C on Cu ribbon. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images of the as-prepared sample shows that 3D hierarchical dendritic carbon structures are composed of carbon nanosheets with the thickness of about 20 nm. The powder X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra reveal the low graphitisation degree of the as-prepared sample. A possible formation mechanism has been proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Carbon-coated α-FeSe nanoparticles in an average size of 200nm have been prepared by a facile one-pot reaction. As an anode material for lithium batteries, the core-shell α-FeSe@C composites showed a discharge plateau at 1.5V, which could effectively avoid the formation of the lithium dendrites and the solid-electrolyte interface layer. They delivered a sustainable reversible capacity of 340mAhg−1 after 40cycles, which is about twice as much as that of the Li4Ti5O12 (175mAhg−1), thereby indicating its promising applications for lithium storage. Abstract: NaLa(WO4)2:Eu microcrystals with shapes of four-arris shuttle, quadrangled star, and quadrangled dendrite were hydrothermally synthesized at 180°C for 16h. The concentration of the reactants and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) influenced the morphologies of the products. As La(NO3)3, Na2WO4 and CTAB was 0.375, 1.0, and 1.0mmol, respectively, four-arris shuttle was obtained. As the concentration of the reactants doubled and the amount of CTAB ranged from 0.4 to 2.0mmol, quadrangled dendrite, quadrangled star and four-arris shuttle were prepared, respectively. Luminescence intensity measurement of the three morphologies of NaLa(WO4)2:Eu showed that quadrangled dendrite was the strongest and four-arris shuttle was the lowest. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Lithium metal is the most attractive and promising anode for next-generation high energy batteries. However, uncontrollable dendrite growth of lithium remains a detrimental safety challenge. To tackle this problem, a 3D flexible MXene@Au host is designed by depositing an ultra-fine and robust Au layer on MXene paper via ion-sputtering. The Au layer acts as lithiophilic nuclear agent to ensure homogeneous lithium deposition and suppress the lithium dendrites growth. The as-prepared flexible 3D MXene@Au@Li anode shows significantly enhanced performance. Full lithium metal cell with LFP cathode delivers high capacity retention of 98.47% even after 200 cycles with good rate capability. Dendritic cobalt nanocrystals have been synthesized by the reduction of Co2+ with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol via a room temperature solution synthetic route. The magnetic coercivity Hc of as-prepared cobalt dendrites came up to 500 Oe at room temperature. We chose different solvents to control the phases and morphologies of the cobalt products. Ag dendritic nanostructures were synthesized via a mild hydrothermal reaction using nickel nanotubes as reducing agent. The crystal morphologies changing from dendrite to compact crystals were investigated during the evolution of reaction system from non-equilibrium to quasi-equilibrium conditions. It was found that the strong shape anisotropy of Ni nanotube might influence the formation of dendritic patterns. A novel in situ oxidization–sulfidation growth route via a self-purification process has been developed to synthesize β-In2S3 dendrites. To our best knowledge, this is the first example to prepare dendrites of III–VI compounds, which are expected to show particular physical properties. The X-ray analysis (EDXA), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), Raman spectrum and optical properties of β-In2S3 dendrites have also been investigated. It is found that the product is pure In2S3 and shows the strong quantum confinement of the excitonic transition expected for the In2S3 dendrites. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Lithium (Li) metal anode is deemed as one of the most fascinating anodes due to its high energy density. Nonetheless, low Coulombic efficiency and safety issues caused by detrimental Li dendrites growth severely hamper its practical application. Herein, we construct an ultrafine TiO 2 confined in 3D freestanding carbon paper by one-step green in-situ oxidation of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene film with greenhouse gas CO 2. The lithiophilic TiO 2 seeds and freestanding 3D carbon matrix can synergistically induce uniform Li deposition and buffer the volume changes during lithium striping and deposition, which ensure improved electrochemical performance with high Coulombic efficiency and low overpotential, etc. The growth process of metallic Li on C/TiO 2 is also systematically investigated. Moreover, the C/TiO 2 @Li||LiFePO 4 full batteries present a stable cycling performance over 250cycles at 1.0C and superior rate performance. Additionally, this work proposes an alternative way to utilize CO 2 , which may alleviate greenhouse effect and boost sustainable development. Abstract: Hierarchical cobalt dendrites with ferromagnetic properties have been synthesized by using the in situ produced cobalt carbonate together with cobalt oxalate as precursor and hypophosphite (H2PO2 −) as the reducing agent in mixed solutions at 160 °C. XRD and SAED patterns reveal that the as-prepared cobalt dendrites have a single-crystalline structure with a [001] growth orientation. Zirconium phosphide (ZrP) has been synthesized via a sodium co reduction of ZrCl4 and PCl3 at 350 °C. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) pattern can be indexed as cubic ZrP with the lattice constant a=5.25 Å. The microwave-assisted synthesis is generally much faster, cleaner, and more economical than the conventional methods. Here, dendritic crystals of AgBiS2 were synthesized in aqueous solution under microwave irradiation for 30 min. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern indicates that the product is in the pure cubic phase.
