The article presents a case study of a 17-year old male tiger in a zoo in Thiruvananthapuram , India, which died due to infection of the Galoncus perniciosus, a nematode parasite. It says that the animal had a history of colic followed by anorexia, absence of defaecation and toxaemia. It says that the parasite is rarely seen in tigers and leopards, and there is a need to screen the tiger and leopard populations, and to study the pathogenesis and life cycle of the parasite.
