In recent years, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have become one of the leading causes of mortality globally. At early stages, CVDs appear with minor symptoms and progressively get worse. The majority of people experience symptoms such as exhaustion, shortness of breath, ankle swelling, fluid retention, and other symptoms when starting CVD. Coronary artery disease (CAD), arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart defect (CHD), mitral regurgitation, and angina are the most common CVDs. Clinical methods such as blood tests, electrocardiography (ECG) signals, and medical imaging are the most effective methods used for the detection of CVDs. Among the diagnostic methods, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) is increasingly used to diagnose, monitor the disease, plan treatment and predict CVDs. Coupled with all the advantages of CMR data, CVDs diagnosis is challenging for physicians as each scan has many slices of data, and the contrast of it might be low. To address these issues, deep learning (DL) techniques have been employed in the diagnosis of CVDs using CMR data, and much research is currently being conducted in this field. This review provides an overview of the studies performed in CVDs detection using CMR images and DL techniques. The introduction section examined CVDs types, diagnostic methods, and the most important medical imaging techniques. The following presents research to detect CVDs using CMR images and the most significant DL methods. Another section discussed the challenges in diagnosing CVDs from CMRI data. Next, the discussion section discusses the results of this review, and future work in CVDs diagnosis from CMR images and DL techniques are outlined. Aims: Blood cell classification helps detect various diseases. However, the current classification model of blood cells cannot always get great results. A network that automatically classifies blood cells can provide doctors with data as one of the criteria for diagnosing patients' disease types and severity. If doctors diagnose blood cells, doctors could spend lots of time on the diagnosis. The diagnosis progress is very tedious. Doctors can make some mistakes when they feel tired. On the other hand, different doctors may have different points on the same patient., Methods: We propose a ResNet50-based ensemble of randomized neural networks (ReRNet) for blood cell classification. ResNet50 is used as the backbone model for feature extraction. The extracted features are fed to 3 randomized neural networks (RNNs): Schmidt neural network, extreme learning machine, and dRVFL. The outputs of the ReRNet are the ensemble of these 3 RNNs based on the majority voting mechanism. The 5 × 5-fold cross-validation is applied to validate the proposed network., Results: The average-accuracy, average-sensitivity, average-precision, and average-F1-score are 99.97%, 99.96%, 99.98%, and 99.97%, respectively., Conclusions: The ReRNet is compared with 4 state-of-the-art methods and achieves the best classification performance. The ReRNet is an effective method for blood cell classification based on these results.

The COVID-19 virus's rapid global spread has caused millions of illnesses and deaths. As a result, it has disastrous consequences for people's lives, public health, and the global economy. Clinical studies have revealed a link between the severity of COVID-19 cases and the amount of virus present in infected people's lungs. Imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) and chest x-rays can detect COVID-19 (CXR). Manual inspection of these images is a difficult process, so computerized techniques are widely used. Deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) are a type of machine learning that is frequently used in computer vision applications, particularly in medical imaging, to detect and classify infected regions. These techniques can assist medical personnel in the detection of patients with COVID-19. In this article, a Bayesian optimized DCNN and explainable AI-based framework is proposed for the classification of COVID-19 from the chest X-ray images. The proposed method starts with a multi-filter contrast enhancement technique that increases the visibility of the infected part. Two pre-trained deep models, namely, EfficientNet-B0 and MobileNet-V2, are fine-tuned according to the target classes and then trained by employing Bayesian optimization (BO). Through BO, hyperparameters have been selected instead of static initialization. Features are extracted from the trained model and fused using a slicing-based serial fusion approach. The fused features are classified using machine learning classifiers for the final classification. Moreover, visualization is performed using a Grad-CAM that highlights the infected part in the image. Breast cancer is a top dangerous killer for women. An accurate early diagnosis of breast cancer is the primary step for treatment. A novel breast cancer detection model called SAFNet is proposed based on ultrasound images and deep learning. We employ a pre-trained ResNet-18 embedded with the spatial attention mechanism as the backbone model. Three randomized network models are trained for prediction in the SAFNet, which are fused by majority voting to produce more accurate results. A public ultrasound image dataset is utilized to evaluate the generalization ability of our SAFNet using 5-fold cross-validation. The simulation experiments reveal that the SAFNet can produce higher classification results compared with four existing breast cancer classification methods. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious disease that has claimed the lives of millions of people worldwide in the last 2 years. Because of the disease's rapid spread, it is critical to diagnose it at an early stage in order to reduce the rate of spread. The images of the lungs are used to diagnose this infection. In the last 2 years, many studies have been introduced to help with the diagnosis of COVID-19 from chest X-Ray images. Because all researchers are looking for a quick method to diagnose this virus, deep learning-based computer controlled techniques are more suitable as a second opinion for radiologists. In this article, we look at the issue of multisource fusion and redundant features. We proposed a CNN-LSTM and improved max value features optimization framework for COVID-19 classification to address these issues. The original images are acquired and the contrast is increased using a combination of filtering algorithms in the proposed architecture. The dataset is then augmented to increase its size, which is then used to train two deep learning networks called Modified EfficientNet B0 and CNN-LSTM. Both networks are built from scratch and extract information from the deep layers. Following the extraction of features, the serial based maximum value fusion technique is proposed to combine the best information of both deep models. However, a few redundant information is also noted; therefore, an improved max value based moth flame optimization algorithm is proposed. Through this algorithm, the best features are selected and finally classified through machine learning classifiers. The experimental process was conducted on three publically available datasets and achieved improved accuracy than the existing techniques. Background: As of Feb 27, 2022, coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused 434,888,591 infections and 5,958,849 deaths worldwide, dealing a severe blow to the economies and cultures of most countries around the world. As the virus has mutated, its infectious capacity has further increased. Effective diagnosis of suspected cases is an important tool to stop the spread of the pandemic. Therefore, we intended to develop a computer-aided diagnosis system for the diagnosis of suspected cases., Methods: To address the shortcomings of commonly used pre-training methods and exploit the information in unlabeled images, we proposed a new pre-training method based on transfer learning with self-supervised learning (TS). After that, a new convolutional neural network based on attention mechanism and deep residual network (RANet) was proposed to extract features. Based on this, a hybrid ensemble model (TSRNet) was proposed for classifying lung CT images of suspected patients as COVID-19 and normal., Results: Compared with the existing five models in terms of accuracy (DarkCOVIDNet: 98.08%; Deep-COVID: 97.58%; NAGNN: 97.86%; COVID-ResNet: 97.78%; Patch-based CNN: 88.90%), TSRNet has the highest accuracy of 99.80%. The automatic recognition of COVID-19 diseases is critical in the present pandemic since it relieves healthcare staff of the burden of screening for infection with COVID-19. Previous studies have proven that deep learning algorithms can be utilized to aid in the diagnosis of patients with potential COVID-19 infection. However, the accuracy of current COVID-19 recognition models is relatively low. Motivated by this fact, we propose three deep learning architectures, F-EDNC, FC-EDNC, and O-EDNC, to quickly and accurately detect COVID-19 infections from chest computed tomography (CT) images. Sixteen deep learning neural networks have been modified and trained to recognize COVID-19 patients using transfer learning and 2458 CT chest images. The proposed EDNC has then been developed using three of sixteen modified pre-trained models to improve the performance of COVID-19 recognition. The results suggested that the F-EDNC method significantly enhanced the recognition of COVID-19 infections with 97.75% accuracy, followed by FC-EDNC and O-EDNC (97.55% and 96.12%, respectively), which is superior to most of the current COVID-19 recognition models. Furthermore, a localhost web application has been built that enables users to easily upload their chest CT scans and obtain their COVID-19 results automatically. This accurate, fast, and automatic COVID-19 recognition system will relieve the stress of medical professionals for screening COVID-19 infections.

Liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B is the pathological repair response of the liver to chronic injury, which is a key step in the development of various chronic liver diseases to cirrhosis and an important link affecting the prognosis of chronic liver diseases. The further development of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B can lead to the disorder of hepatic lobule structure, nodular regeneration of hepatocytes, formation of a pseudolobular structure, namely, cirrhosis, clinical manifestations of liver dysfunction, and portal hypertension. So far, the diagnosis of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B has been made manually by doctors. However, this is very subjective and boring for doctors. Doctors are likely to be interfered with by external factors, such as fatigue and lack of sleep. This paper proposed a 5-layer deep convolution neural network structure for the automatic classification of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B. In the 5-layer deep convolution neural network structure, there were three convolution layers and two fully connected layers, and each convolution layer was connected with a pooling layer. 123 ADC images were collected, and the following results were obtained: the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F 1, MCC, and FMI were 88.13% ± 1.47%, 81.45% ± 3.69%, 91.12% ± 1.72%, 80.49% ± 2.94%, 80.90% ± 2.39%, 72.36% ± 3.39%, and 80.94% ± 2.37%, respectively., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of this article., (Copyright © 2021 Ziquan Zhu et al.)

Objective: COVID-19 is a sort of infectious disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. This study aims to develop a more accurate COVID-19 diagnosis system. Methods: First, the n -conv module (nCM) is introduced. Then we built a 12-layer convolutional neural network (12l-CNN) as the backbone network. Afterwards, PatchShuffle was introduced to integrate with 12l-CNN as a regularization term of the loss function. Our model was named PSCNN. Moreover, multiple-way data augmentation and Grad-CAM are employed to avoid overfitting and locating lung lesions. Results: The mean and standard variation values of the seven measures of our model were 95.28 ± 1.03 (sensitivity), 95.78 ± 0.87 (specificity), 95.76 ± 0.86 (precision), 95.53 ± 0.83 (accuracy), 95.52 ± 0.83 (F1 score), 91.7 ± 1.65 (MCC), and 95.52 ± 0.83 (FMI). Conclusion: Our PSCNN is better than 10 state-of-the-art models. Background: Individuals with psychiatric disorders perceive the world differently. Previous studies indicated impaired color vision and weakened color discrimination ability in psychotic patients. Examining the paintings from psychotic patients can measure the visual-motor function. However, few studies examined the potential changes in the color painting behavior in these individuals. The current study aims to discriminate schizophrenia patients from healthy controls (HCs) and predict PANSS scores of schizophrenia patients according to their paintings., Methods: In the present study, we retrospectively analyzed the paintings colored by 281 chronic schizophrenia patients and 35 HCs. The images were scanned and processed using series of computational analyses., Results: The results showed that schizophrenia patients tend to use less color and exhibit different strokes compared to HCs. Using a deep learning residual neural network (ResNet), we were able to discriminate patients from HCs with over 90% accuracy. Further, we developed a novel convolutional neural network to predict PANSS positive, negative, general psychopathology, and total scores. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the prediction was low, which indicates higher accuracy of prediction., Conclusion: In conclusion, the deep learning paradigm showed the large potential to discriminate schizophrenia patients from HCs based on color paintings. Besides, this color painting-based paradigm can effectively predict clinical symptom severity for chronic schizophrenia patients. Background: The wide adoption of electronic health record systems (EHRs) in hospitals in China has made large amounts of data available for clinical research including breast cancer. Unfortunately, much of detailed clinical information is embedded in clinical narratives e.g., breast radiology reports. The American College of Radiology (ACR) has developed a Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) to standardize the clinical findings from breast radiology reports., Objectives: This study aims to develop natural language processing (NLP) methods to extract BI-RADS findings from breast ultrasound reports in Chinese, thus to support clinical operation and breast cancer research in China., Methods: We developed and compared three different types of NLP approaches, including a rule-based method, a traditional machine learning-based method using the Conditional Random Fields (CRF) algorithm, and deep learning-based approaches, to extract all BI-RADS finding categories from breast ultrasound reports in Chinese., Results: Using a manually annotated dataset containing 540 reports, our evaluation shows that the deep learning-based method achieved the best F1-score of 0.904, when compared with rule-based and CRF-based approaches (0.848 and 0.881 respectively)., Conclusions: This is the first study that applies deep learning technologies to BI-RADS findings extraction in Chinese breast ultrasound reports, demonstrating its potential on enabling international collaborations on breast cancer research., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. Currently, the improvement in AI is mainly related to deep learning techniques that are employed for the classification, identification, and quantification of patterns in clinical images. The deep learning models show more remarkable performance than the traditional methods for medical image processing tasks, such as skin cancer, colorectal cancer, brain tumour, cardiac disease, Breast cancer (BrC), and a few more. The manual diagnosis of medical issues always requires an expert and is also expensive. Therefore, developing some computer diagnosis techniques based on deep learning is essential. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in females with a rapidly growing percentage. It is estimated that patients with BrC will rise to 70% in the next 20 years. If diagnosed at a later stage, the survival rate of patients with BrC is shallow. Hence, early detection is essential, increasing the survival rate to 50%. A new framework for BrC classification is presented that utilises deep learning and feature optimization. The significant steps of the presented framework include (i) hybrid contrast enhancement of acquired images, (ii) data augmentation to facilitate better learning of the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, (iii) a pre‐trained ResNet‐101 model is utilised and modified according to selected dataset classes, (iv) deep transfer learning based model training for feature extraction, (v) the fusion of features using the proposed highly corrected function‐controlled canonical correlation analysis approach, and (vi) optimal feature selection using the modified Satin Bowerbird Optimization controlled Newton Raphson algorithm that finally classified using 10 machine learning classifiers. The experiments of the proposed framework have been carried out using the most critical and publicly available dataset, such as CBIS‐DDSM, and obtained the best accuracy of 94.5% along with improved computation time. Deep learning has become a primary choice in medical image analysis due to its powerful representation capability. However, most existing deep learning models designed for medical image classification can only perform well on a specific disease. The performance drops dramatically when it comes to other diseases. Generalizability remains a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary attention-based network (EDCA-Net), which is an effective and robust network for medical image classification tasks. To extract task-related features from a given medical dataset, we first propose the densely connected attentional network (DCA-Net) where feature maps are automatically channel-wise weighted, and the dense connectivity pattern is introduced to improve the efficiency of information flow. To improve the model capability and generalizability, we introduce two types of evolution: intra- and inter-evolution. The intra-evolution optimizes the weights of DCA-Net, while the inter-evolution allows two instances of DCA-Net to exchange training experience during training. The evolutionary DCA-Net is referred to as EDCA-Net. The EDCA-Net is evaluated on four publicly accessible medical datasets of different diseases. Experiments showed that the EDCA-Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on three datasets and achieves comparable performance on the last dataset, demonstrating good generalizability for medical image classification. Detection of breast mass plays a very important role in making the diagnosis of breast cancer. For faster detection of breast cancer caused by breast mass, we developed a novel and efficient patch-based breast mass detection system for mammography images. The proposed framework is comprised of three modules, including pre-processing, multiple-level breast tissue segmentation, and final breast mass detection. An improved Deeplabv3+ model for pectoral muscle removal is deployed in pre-processing. We then proposed a multiple-level thresholding segmentation method to segment breast mass and obtained the connected components (ConCs), where the corresponding image patch to each ConC is extracted for mass detection. In the final detection stage, each image patch is classified into breast mass and breast tissue background by trained deep learning models. The patches that are classified as breast mass are then taken as the candidates for breast mass. To reduce the false positive rate in the detection results, we applied the non-maximum suppression algorithm to combine the overlapped detection results. Once an image patch is considered a breast mass, the accurate detection result can then be retrieved from the corresponding ConC in the segmented images. Moreover, a coarse segmentation result can be simultaneously retrieved after detection. Compared to the state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method achieved comparable performance. On CBIS-DDSM, the proposed method achieved a detection sensitivity of 0.87 at 2.86 FPI (False Positive rate per Image), while the sensitivity reached 0.96 on INbreast with an FPI of only 1.29. With a global COVID-19 pandemic, the number of confirmed patients increases rapidly, leaving the world with very few medical resources. Therefore, the fast diagnosis and monitoring of COVID-19 are one of the world's most critical challenges today. Artificial intelligence-based CT image classification models can quickly and accurately distinguish infected patients from healthy populations. Our research proposes a deep learning model (WE-SAJ) using wavelet entropy for feature extraction, two-layer FNNs for classification and the adaptive Jaya algorithm as a training algorithm. It achieves superior performance compared to the Jaya-based model. The model has a sensitivity of 85.47±1.84, specificity of 87.23±1.67 precision of 87.03±1.34, an accuracy of 86.35±0.70, and F1 score of 86.23±0.77, Matthews correlation coefficient of 72.75±1.38, and feature mutual information of 86.24±0.76. Our experiments demonstrate the potential of artificial intelligence techniques for COVID-19 diagnosis and the effectiveness of the Self-adaptive Jaya algorithm compared to the Jaya algorithm for medical image classification tasks. Aim: Fruit category classification is important in factory packing and transportation, price prediction, dietary intake, and so forth. Methods: This study proposed a novel artificial intelligence system to classify fruit categories. First, 2D fractional Fourier entropy with rotation angle vector grid was used to extract features from fruit images. Afterwards, a five‐layer stacked sparse autoencoder was used as the classifier. Results: Ten runs on the test set showed our method achieved a micro‐averaged F1 score of 95.08% for an 18‐category fruit dataset. Aim: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. This study plans to build a novel deep learning-based model for the accurate recognition of tuberculosis. Methods: We propose a novel model — rotation angle vector grid-based fractional Fourier entropy and deep stacked sparse autoencoder (RAVG-FrFE–DSSAE) — which uses RAVG-FrFE as a feature extractor and harnesses DSSAE as the classifier. Moreover, an 18-way MDA is introduced on the training set to avoid overfitting. Results: Experimental results of 10 runs of 10-fold CV showcase that this proposed RAVG-FrFE–DSSAE algorithm yields a reasonable performance including of 93.68 ± 1.11% sensitivity, 94.38 ± 1.11% specificity, 94.35 ± 1.04% precision, 94.03 ± 0.69% accuracy, 94.01 ± 0.70% F 1 -score, 88.07 ± 1.38% MCC, 94.01 ± 0.70% FMI, and 0.9725 AUC, respectively. Aim: Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are small round dots distributed over the brain which contribute to stroke, dementia, and death. The early diagnosis is significant for the treatment. Method: In this paper, a new CMB detection approach was put forward for brain magnetic resonance images. We leveraged a sliding window to obtain training and testing samples from input brain images. Then, a 13-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) was designed and trained. Finally, we proposed to utilize an extreme learning machine (ELM) to substitute the last several layers in the CNN for detection. We carried out an experiment to decide the optimal number of layers to be substituted. The parameters in ELM were optimized by a heuristic algorithm named bat algorithm. The evaluation of our approach was based on hold-out validation, and the final predictions were generated by averaging the performance of five runs. Results: Through the experiments, we found replacing the last five layers with ELM can get the optimal results. Aim: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that causes 60–70% of all cases of dementia. This study is to provide a novel method that can identify AD more accurately. Methods: We first propose a VGG-inspired network (VIN) as the backbone network and investigate the use of attention mechanisms. We proposed an Alzheimer's Disease VGG-Inspired Attention Network (ADVIAN), where we integrate convolutional block attention modules on a VIN backbone. Also, 18-way data augmentation is proposed to avoid overfitting. Ten runs of 10-fold cross-validation are carried out to report the unbiased performance. Results: The sensitivity and specificity reach 97.65 ± 1.36 and 97.86 ± 1.55, respectively. Its precision and accuracy are 97.87 ± 1.53 and 97.76 ± 1.13, respectively. The F1 score, MCC, and FMI are obtained as 97.75 ± 1.13, 95.53 ± 2.27, and 97.76 ± 1.13, respectively. The AUC is 0.9852. We propose a new method for hearing loss classification from magnetic resonance image (MRI), which can automatically detect tissue-specific features in a given MRI. Sensorineural hearing loss (SHNL) is highly prevalent in our society. Early diagnosis and intervention have a profound impact on patient outcomes. A solution to provide early diagnosis is the use of automated diagnostic systems. In this study, we propose a novel Deep-HLNet framework, based on few-shot learning, for the automated classification of SNHL. This research involves magnetic resonance (MRI) images from 60 participants of three balanced categories: left-sided SNHL, right-sided SNHL, and healthy controls. A convolutional neural network was employed for feature extraction from individual categories, while a neural network and a comparison classifier strategy constituted a tri-classifier for SNHL classification. In terms of experiment results and practicability of the algorithm, the classification performance was significantly better than the standard deep learning methods or other conventional methods, with an overall accuracy of 96.62%. Predicting brain age of children accurately and quantitatively can give help in brain development analysis and brain disease diagnosis. Traditional methods to estimate brain age based on 3D magnetic resonance (MR), T1 weighted imaging (T1WI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) need complex preprocessing and extra scanning time, decreasing clinical practice, especially in children. This research aims at proposing an end-to-end AI system based on deep learning to predict the brain age based on routine brain MR imaging. We spent over 5 years enrolling 220 stacked 2D routine clinical brain MR T1-weighted images of healthy children aged 0 to 5 years old and randomly divided those images into training data including 176 subjects and test data including 44 subjects. Data augmentation technology, which includes scaling, image rotation, translation, and gamma correction, was employed to extend the training data. A 10-layer 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) was designed for predicting the brain age of children and it achieved reliable and accurate results on test data with a mean absolute deviation (MAE) of 67.6 days, a root mean squared error (RMSE) of 96.1 days, a mean relative error (MRE) of 8.2%, a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.985, and a coefficient of determination (R 2) of 0.971. Specially, the performance on predicting the age of children under 2 years old with a MAE of 28.9 days, a RMSE of 37.0 days, a MRE of 7.8%, a R of 0.983, and a R 2 of 0.967 is much better than that over 2 with a MAE of 110.0 days, a RMSE of 133.5 days, a MRE of 8.2%, a R of 0.883, and a R 2 of 0.780. Alcoholism changes the structure of brain. Several somatic marker hypothesis network-related regions are known to be damaged in chronic alcoholism. Neuroimaging approach can help us better understanding the impairment discovered in alcohol-dependent subjects. In this research, we recruited subjects from participating hospitals. In total, 188 abstinent long-term chronic alcoholic participants (95 men and 93 women) and 191 non-alcoholic control participants (95 men and 96 women) were enrolled in our experiment via computerized diagnostic interview schedule version IV and medical history interview employed to determine whether the applicants can be enrolled or excluded. The Siemens Verio Tim 3.0 T MR scanner (Siemens Medical Solutions, Erlangen, Germany) was employed to scan the subjects. Then, we proposed a 10-layer convolutional neural network for the diagnosis based on imaging, including three advanced techniques: parametric rectified linear unit (PReLU); batch normalization; and dropout. The structure of network is fine-tuned. The results show that our method secured a sensitivity of 97.73 ± 1.04%, a specificity of 97.69 ± 0.87%, and an accuracy of 97.71 ± 0.68%. We observed the PReLU gives better performance than ordinary ReLU, clipped ReLU, and leaky ReLU. The batch normalization and dropout gained enhanced performance as batch normalization overcame the internal covariate shift and dropout got over the overfitting. Accurately classify teeth category is important in further dental diagnosis. Analyzing huge dental data, that is, identifying the teeth category, is often a hard task. Current automatic methods are based on computer vision and deep learning approaches. In this study, we aimed to classify the teeth category into four classes: incisor, canine, premolar, and molar. Cone beam computed tomography was used to collect the data. We proposed a seven‐layer deep convolutional neural network with global average pooling to identify teeth category. Data augmentation method was used to enlarge the size of training dataset. The results showed the sensitivities of incisor, canine, premolar, and molar teeth are 88%, 86%, 84%, and 90%, respectively. Aim: Multiple sclerosis is a severe brain and/or spinal cord disease. It may lead to a wide range of symptoms. Hence, the early diagnosis and treatment is quite important. Method: This study proposed a 14-layer convolutional neural network, combined with three advanced techniques: batch normalization, dropout, and stochastic pooling. The output of the stochastic pooling was obtained via sampling from a multinomial distribution formed from the activations of each pooling region. In addition, we used data augmentation method to enhance the training set. In total 10 runs were implemented with the hold-out randomly set for each run. Results: The results showed that our 14-layer CNN secured a sensitivity of 98.77 ± 0.35%, a specificity of 98.76 ± 0.58%, and an accuracy of 98.77 ± 0.39%. Conclusion: Our results were compared with CNN using maximum pooling and average pooling. The comparison shows stochastic pooling gives better performance than other two pooling methods. Furthermore, we compared our proposed method with six state-of-the-art approaches, including five traditional artificial intelligence methods and one deep learning method. Accurate diagnosis of focal liver lesions (FLLs) plays a crucial role in patients' management, surveillance, and prognosis. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) as a vital diagnostic tool for FLLs still faces the challenge of image feature overlap among several FLLs. In this study, we proposed a deep learning-based model, denoted as a unified end-to-end (UEE) model, to fully capture the lesion information to achieve the classification of FLLs by adopting CEUS. We first exploited ResNet50 as the backbone to extract multi-scale features from several CEUS frames. Secondly, the hybrid attention enhancement module (HAEM) was designed to enhance the significant features with various scales. The enhanced features were then concatenated and passed into the nested feature aggregation module (NFAM) to add nonlinearity to the features with various scales. Finally, all features from different frames were averaged and fed into a Sigmoid classifier for FLL classification. The experiments are developed on a multi-center dataset which ensured diversity. The extensive experimental results revealed that the UEE model achieved 88.64 % accuracy on benign (Be) and malignant (Ma) classification, and 91.27 % accuracy on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocellular carcinoma (ICC) classification. • A global to local feature aggregation network is put forward for EEG emotion recognition. • An effective topological graph construction method is put forward to map the actual EEG electrode positions into a spatial coordinate system. • Experimental validation of the model is carried out in the emotion datasets, the proposed algorithm obtains good performance. Recently, emotion recognition technology based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is widely used in areas such as human–computer interaction and disease diagnosis. Traditional deep learning models rarely focus on the topological features of EEG electrodes, and often focus only on the local features of EEG signals, which makes it difficult to enhance the effectiveness of emotion recognition. In order to improve the accuracy and robustness of EEG-based emotion recognition algorithms, we propose an EEG emotion recognition algorithm based on a global to local feature aggregation network (GLFANet). This algorithm firstly uses the spatial location of the channels of EEG signals and the frequency domain features of each channel to construct an undirected topological graph to represent the spatial connection relationship between channels. Then, the GLFANet can learn deeper features of the undirected topology graph for emotion recognition. GLFANet mainly consists of a global learner composed of multiple graph convolution blocks and a local learner composed of multiple convolution blocks, which can learn both global and local features of EEG signals. Since the resting functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) can reflect the brain activity state, automatic diagnosis of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) based on re-fMRI has become a critical method which can relieve the pressure of doctors meanwhile improve the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis. Up to now, the traditional diagnosis of ADHD based on rs-fMRI converts rs-fMRI into functional connectivity or low-dimensional data for classification which will lead to original information loss since rs-fMRI contains 3D spatial and 1D temporal information. In this paper, we propose a deep learning model consisting of the spatio-temporal feature extraction and classifier. The nested residual convolutional denoising autoencoder (NRCDAE) is exploited to reduce the spatial dimension of rs-fMRI and extract the 3D spatial features. Then, the 3D convolutional gated recurrent unit (GRU) is adopted to extract the spatial and temporal features simultaneously. The spatio-temporal features extracted are sent into the sigmoid classifier for classification. The training and testing are carried out across five sites of ADHD-200 and the results of experimental show that the proposed method can effectively improve the classification performance between ADHD and typically developing (TD) in the cross-site test set from 1.14% to 10.9% compared with other methods. Simple Summary: Deep learning has become a popular technique in modern computer-aided (CAD) systems. In breast cancer CAD systems, breast pectoral segmentation is an important procedure to remove unwanted pectoral muscle in the images. In recent decades, there are numerous studies aiming at developing efficient and accurate methods for pectoral muscle segmentation. However, some methods heavily rely on manually crafted features that can easily lead to segmentation failure. Moreover, deep learning-based methods are still suffering from poor performance at high computational costs. Therefore, we propose a novel deep learning segmentation framework to provide fast and accurate pectoral muscle segmentation result. In the proposed framework, the novel network architecture enables more useful information to be used and therefore improve the segmentation results. The experimental results using two public datasets validated the effectiveness of the proposed network. As an important imaging modality, mammography is considered to be the global gold standard for early detection of breast cancer. Computer-Aided (CAD) systems have played a crucial role in facilitating quicker diagnostic procedures, which otherwise could take weeks if only radiologists were involved. In some of these CAD systems, breast pectoral segmentation is required for breast region partition from breast pectoral muscle for specific analysis tasks. Therefore, accurate and efficient breast pectoral muscle segmentation frameworks are in high demand. Here, we proposed a novel deep learning framework, which we code-named PeMNet, for breast pectoral muscle segmentation in mammography images. In the proposed PeMNet, we integrated a novel attention module called the Global Channel Attention Module (GCAM), which can effectively improve the segmentation performance of Deeplabv3+ using minimal parameter overheads. In GCAM, channel attention maps (CAMs) are first extracted by concatenating feature maps after paralleled global average pooling and global maximum pooling operation. CAMs are then refined and scaled up by multi-layer perceptron (MLP) for elementwise multiplication with CAMs in next feature level. By iteratively repeating this procedure, the global CAMs (GCAMs) are then formed and multiplied elementwise with final feature maps to lead to final segmentation. By doing so, CAMs in early stages of a deep convolution network can be effectively passed on to later stages of the network and therefore leads to better information usage. The experiments on a merged dataset derived from two datasets, INbreast and OPTIMAM, showed that PeMNet greatly outperformed state-of-the-art methods by achieving an IoU of 97.46 % , global pixel accuracy of 99.48 % , Dice similarity coefficient of 96.30 % , and Jaccard of 93.33 % , respectively. The COVID-19 virus has swept the world and brought great impact to various fields, gaining wide attention from all walks of life since the end of 2019. At present, although the global epidemic situation is leveling off and vaccine doses have been administered in a large amount, confirmed cases are still emerging around the world. To make up for the missed diagnosis caused by the uncertainty of nucleic acid polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, utilizing lung CT examination as a combined detection method to improve the diagnostic rate becomes a necessity. Our research considered the time-consuming and labor-intensive characteristics of the traditional CT analyzing process, and developed an efficient deep learning framework named CSGBBNet to solve the binary classification task of COVID-19 images based on a COVID-Seg model for image preprocessing and a GBBNet for classification. The five runs with random seed on the test set showed our novel framework can rapidly analyze CT scan images and give out effective results for assisting COVID-19 detection, with the mean accuracy of 98.49 ± 1.23%, the sensitivity of 99.00 ± 2.00%, the specificity of 97.95 ± 2.51%, the precision of 98.10 ± 2.61%, and the F1 score of 98.51 ± 1.22%. Moreover, our model CSGBBNet performs better when compared with seven previous state-of-the-art methods. Breast cancer is a mostly diagnosed deadly disease with a high mortality rate that can effectively be cured by early diagnosis and proper treatment. Ultrasound imaging modality is being utilized at a large scale for early diagnosis of this disease due to quick results and cheapness. Manual diagnosis of breast cancer is a laborious task that needs experts and is also subjective which necessitates the accurate diagnosis solution of this disease with help of the computer. This work proposed a combined framework for the classification and segmentation of breast cancer to automate manual diagnosis. A multiscale classification model for the classification of breast cancer into three classes is developed. For the segmentation task, an autoencoder‐based U‐shaped DDA‐Net segmentation model consisting of a dual‐decoded attention mechanism is proposed. For experiments two publically available datasets namely BUSI and UDIAT are utilized. Before the classification task feature selection method of the whale optimization algorithm is implemented and for the classification task different machine learning algorithms are utilized. The proposed method achieved the segmentation dice of 88.68% on the UDIAT dataset and dice of 87.95% on the BUSI dataset with a classification accuracy of 97.89% with a precision score of 97.9%. Brain diseases threaten hundreds of thousands of people over the world. Medical imaging techniques such as MRI and CT are employed for various brain disease studies. As artificial intelligence succeeded in image analysis, scientists employed artificial intelligence, especially deep learning technologies, to assist brain disease studies. The AI applications for brain disease studies can be divided into two categories. The first category is preprocessing, including denoising, registration, skull-stripping, intensity normalization, and data augmentation. The second category is the clinical application that contains lesion segmentation, disease detection, grade classification, and outcome prediction. In this survey, we reviewed over one hundred representative papers on how to apply AI to brain disease studies. We first introduced AI-based preprocessing for brain disease studies. Second, we reviewed the influential works of AI-based brain disease studies. At last, we also discussed three development trends in the future. With an overwhelming increase in the demand of autonomous systems, especially in the applications related to intelligent robotics and visual surveillance, come stringent accuracy requirements for complex object recognition. A system that maintains its performance against a change in the object's nature is said to be sustainable and it has become a major area of research for the computer vision research community in the past few years. In this work, we present a sustainable deep learning architecture, which utilizes multi-layer deep features fusion and selection, for accurate object classification. The proposed approach comprises three steps: (1) By utilizing two deep learning architectures, Very Deep Convolutional Networks for Large-Scale Image Recognition and Inception V3, it extracts features based on transfer learning, (2) Fusion of all the extracted feature vectors is performed by means of a parallel maximum covariance approach, and (3) The best features are selected using Multi Logistic Regression controlled Entropy-Variances method. For verification of the robust selected features, the Ensemble Learning method named Subspace Discriminant Analysis is utilized as a fitness function. The experimental process is conducted using four publicly available datasets, including Caltech-101, Birds database, Butterflies database and CIFAR-100, and a ten-fold validation process which yields the best accuracies of 95.5%, 100%, 98%, and 68.80% for the datasets respectively. Based on the detailed statistical analysis and comparison with the existing methods, the proposed selection method gives significantly more accuracy. Traditional technology uses serial processing method in CT image feature extraction. It is prone to loss of image data, which causes problems such as ring distortion of the reconstructed image and long reconstruction time. Therefore, a three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction algorithm for CT image features based on multi-threaded deep learning calculation is designed. Feature image textures are segmented using parameters such as gray, mean, and variance. Fusion calculates co-occurrence logarithm of the gray level with segmented sub-block and its pixels. Co-occurrence probability of the sub-block gray levels is obtained, followed by getting optimal feature volume data, which is stored in 3D texture and 1D texture for interpolation calculation.The optimal feature volume data is stored in 3D and 1D texture for interpolation calculation. Rotation matrix is stored in the global storage space of CUDA, which is used for multi-threaded calculations. After completing multi-threaded batch CT image hardware configuration and algorithm flow settings, the thread's index and bounding box is calculated. 3D reconstruction of CT image features is achieved by model accumulation. The experimental simulation proves that local detail information loss is small after reconstruction of the proposed method. Its reconstruction time is short and has good applicability.
