Background: Nurses often face ethical issues in their daily work that can have an impact on their level of job embeddedness. And positive job embeddedness is essential to reduce burnout among nurses and improve professional retention in the medical industry. However, few studies have focused on the relationship between moral distress, moral resilience, and job embeddedness. Objectives: To investigate the relationship between moral distress, moral resilience, and job embeddedness, and explore the mediating role of moral resilience between moral distress and job embeddedness among nurses. Design: A quantitative, cross-sectional study. Methods: Nurses from a number of tertiary general hospitals in central China were surveyed and assessed using the Moral Distress Scale, the Nurse Moral Resilience Scale, and the nurse job embeddedness Scale from February to March 2023. The study was conducted in line with the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. Ethical consideration: All study procedures were approved by the Ethics Committee of Hunan Normal University (No. 2023-313). Findings: Moral distress was positively correlated with moral resilience (β = 0.525, p < 0.01) and negatively correlated job embeddedness (β = −0.470, p < 0.01). Moral resilience partially mediated the relationship between moral distress with job embeddedness (β = −0.087, p < 0.01). Discussion: The findings reveal a relationship between moral distress, job embeddedness, and moral resilience among nurses. Conclusion: Moral distress and moral resilience are important correlates of job embeddedness in nurses. Interventions to reduce moral distress and increase moral resilience may have potential benefits for improving nurses' job embeddedness. It is recommended that clinical nursing administrators create a favorable ethical atmosphere, educate nurses about ethics, and increase nurses' moral resilience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: An important first step in enhancing professional palliative care training is to investigate the educational needs of pediatric clinicians in this field. The aims of this research were to analyze the extent of end-of-life care experience of Chinese pediatric clinicians and identify the differing educational needs of physicians and nurses as well as associated impact factors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey via a structural questionnaire was used in this research. Results: In total, 187 clinicians, comprising 52 physicians and 135 nurses, participated in this study. The topics "pain management", "symptom management", and "discussing the prognosis with family members" were the most expressed educational needs among both physicians and nurses. Compared to nurses, physicians placed greater emphasis on the importance of "communication" and "pain and symptom management" (p < 0.05). Clinicians with more extensive end-of-life care experience more strongly felt the importance of learning about pain management and communication regarding end-of-life care (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Research showed that the education currently provided to pediatric clinicians does not meet their distinctive needs. Future palliative care education must be a continuing multi-level, interdisciplinary program and different education should be provided to physicians and nurses based on their respective needs. Aims: To investigate the relationships and pathways between workplace bullying, workplace spirituality, and job burnout in Chinese paediatric nurses. Design: A cross‐sectional descriptive survey was conducted with paediatric nurses from six tertiary hospitals in Hubei Province, China. Methods: The study consisted of 402 paediatric nurses. The data were collected using a sociodemographic data questionnaire, Negative Acts Questionnaire‐Revised, Maslach Burnout Inventory‐General Survey and Workplace Spirituality Scale. The model was tested using path analysis techniques within structural equation modelling. Results: Workplace bullying had positive and direct effects on the job burnout of paediatric nurses. Workplace spirituality partially mediated the relationship between workplace bullying and burnout. Patient or Public Contribution: Workplace spirituality may reduce the incidence of work bullying and job burnout in paediatric nurses. Nursing managers need to consider and cultivate the workplace spirituality of paediatric nurses, with the aim of creating a healthy working environment and ensuring the stability of the nursing team. Aim: This study aims to evaluate demands for general and pharmacological knowledge and training related to intravenous (IV) therapy among pediatric nurses. Materials and Methods: This multicentric cross-sectional study involved 12,707 pediatric nurses from 100 hospitals in China. A questionnaire was used to assess information about IV drug administration training received, and the demands for pharmacology-related knowledge, and corresponding methods of acquisition. A generalized linear model using Logit link function was employed to assess relationships between factors and multivariate analysis was conducted. Results: More than 99% of participants showed their training demands for IV therapy training. Pediatric nurses' demands and methods for acquiring IV therapy knowledge and the knowledge related to IV therapy pharmacology have significant differences in social demographic factors, previous knowledge, whether they have received training or not, and other factors (all P < 0.05). Received a needlestick injury in the past month (P = 0.007) and knowledge acquired through in-hospital or out-of-hospital training (P = 0.039) were factors that reduced the demands for methods to acquire further pharmacology-related knowledge of IV therapy. Working in internal medicine (P = 0.025) and not having experienced a needlestick injury in the past year (P = 0.007) reduced the demands for IV therapy knowledge. Attended hospital (P = 0.007) or departmental meetings (P = 0.009), being pediatric primary nurses (P = 0.044), and studied special IV guidelines (P = 0.006) reduced the desire for methods to acquire IV therapy knowledge. Conclusion: There was a high demand for greater general and pharmacological knowledge related to IV therapy among pediatric nurses. Many healthcare professionals base their perceptions of pediatric pain on their knowledge of the subject. Therefore, knowledge deficits in this area may yield negative attitudes toward pain management and add to the complexity of pain management in hospitalized children. This study evaluated the knowledge of pediatric clinicians in China regarding pediatric pain management. Adopting a cross-sectional descriptive comparative design, we surveyed pediatric clinicians using a structured questionnaire. Inclusive criteria were pediatric clinicians, both pediatricians and nurses, with professional pediatric experience of over one year. A total of 507 pediatric clinicians participated. Most were aware of the importance of pain management in sick children but misunderstood pediatric pain, lacked knowledge for performing pediatric pain assessments and lacked knowledge for providing pain relief interventions. Background factors including differing professions (pediatricians and nurses; p = 0.012), age (p < 0.05) and hospital setting of employment (p = 0.003) were significantly related to clinicians' knowledge regarding pain management. Participating pediatricians had higher levels of knowledge of pediatric pain management than nurses. Research revealed four barriers affecting clinicians' knowledge, including misconception of pain in children, lack of professional knowledge and confidence in the practice of pediatric pain assessment, lack of professional knowledge to provide pain relief interventions, and a significant knowledge gap between pediatricians and nurses. The results point out a crucial need for multidisciplinary education to remedy these deficiencies. Background: Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) are the most widely used intravenous treatment tools for hospitalized patients. Compared to adult patients, PIVC fixation issues are more likely to occur in pediatric patients and can be more complex. However, research on PIVC fixation in pediatric patients is rare. This study aimed to investigate the pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients and the factors that influence pediatric nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning PIVC fixation. Methods: An on-site investigation using a self-designed PIVC fixation standard inspection checklist for first insertion and routine maintenance in pediatric patients and a follow-up questionnaire survey investigating pediatric nurses' KAP concerning PIVC fixation was conducted in a hospital in China between November 1 and December 31, 2019. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results: The pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients was 52.02%. The pediatric nurses' knowledge, attitude and practice scores on PIVC fixation were 7.2 ± 1.36, 28.03 ± 2.42, and 31.73 ± 2.94, respectively. The multivariate linear regression analysis results show that department (where nurses are working in) and job position are the factors that influence knowledge score (B > 0, P < 0.05); department is also a factor that influences attitude score (B > 0, P < 0.05); and department and nursing hierarchy are the factors that influence practice score (B > 0, P < 0.05). Conclusion: PIVC fixation in pediatric patients is affected by multiple factors. The level of pediatric nurses' KAP on PIVC fixation needs to be improved. It is suggested that guidelines for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients be formulated and that training on PIVC fixation in pediatric patients be provided for pediatric nurses in an effort to raise the pass rate in terms of PIVC fixation in pediatric patients. This study investigated perceived stress levels of pediatric nurses during the 2019-20 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak. From February 9 to 13, 2020, 250 pediatric nurses were selected from 4 grade III children's hospitals and 5 grade III general hospitals in Jiangsu Province, China. A general information questionnaire and a stress perception scale were used to investigate and analyze the influencing factors of perceived stress among participants. Perceived stress was at the intermediate level or above for 54.1% (133) of the sample. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that hospital department, living styles, physical conditions, and the proportion of negative (eg, increased deaths and infections) information received about the epidemic (eg, via media and/or face-to-face) influenced perceived stress. Thus, the overall level of perceived stress among clinical pediatric nurses was medium. Nursing managers should pay more attention to and conduct timely assessment interventions for staff to reduce stress levels and promote physical and mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to develop and validate a scientific and standardized knowledge, attitude and practice questionnaire of pediatric nurses' preventive care for central venous device-related thrombosis among hospitalized children. Pediatric nurses play a significant role in the prevention of central venous device-related thrombosis for hospialized children. However, the status of pediatric nurses' knowledge, attitude and practice of central venous device-related thrombosis prevention has not been revealed due to the lack of assessment tools. This questionnaire was framed by the theory of knowledge, attitude and practice. The item pool was compiled through a literature review and a preliminary questionnaire was formed based on expert consultation. A total of 457 pediatric nurses from 10 tertiary class A general hospitals and specialized pediatric hospitals in China were selected for pre-survey. Item analysis, reliability and validity test were conducted to refine and evaluate the items to form a formal questionnaire. A total of 54 items were proposed in three dimensions of knowledge, attitude and practice. In the exploratory factor analysis, five, three and three common factors were extracted for each dimension, accounting for 60.552%, 89.829% and 84.258% of the total variance, respectively. The content validity index of the three dimensions ranged from 0.968 to 1.000 at the scale level and from 0.833 to 1.000 at the item level. The Cronbach's α coefficients for the total questionnaire and each dimension were between 0.926 and 0.973. The retest reliability for the total questionnaire and each dimension was between 0.688 and 0.898. The proposed questionnaire has good reliability and validity and it can be applied to evaluate pediatric nurses' knowledge, attitude and practice in preventing central venous device-related thrombosis for hospitalized children. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to describe (a) the frequency of interruptions experienced by a pediatric nurse per hour, (b) the sources of interruptions experienced by a pediatric nurse, and (c) the interruption outcomes during pediatric medication administration. Design and Methods: This design of this study was a cross‐sectional observational study. A convenience sample of pediatric nurses was used in this study. The interruption observation sheet was used to collect data about the frequency, sources, and outcomes of interruptions. Results: There was a total of 43 nurses were observed in more than 180 medication administration rounds. An interruption rate of 94.51% occurred during pediatric medication administration. The frequency of interruptions was three or more times (51.04%). The most common source of interruption was attributed to the working environment (32.37%). The second most frequent reason for interruption came from personnel, such as caregivers (24.48%), followed by physicians (10.79%), and other nursing staff (9.54%). The third most common source of interruption was communication issues, including patient interviews, patient reports, and case discussion (8.71%). Six errors (2.49%) were reported out of 241 interruptions as a result of interruptions. In specific, causes of errors during pediatric medication administration were due to wrong medication dose. Practice Implications: This study provides important information on interruptions experienced by pediatric nurses during medication administration in Chinese hospital settings and found that interruptions frequently occur in pediatric units.
