Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) show a reduced physical activity (PA) level compared with their typically developed peers. This study aimed to identify potential predictors of objectively evaluated habitual PA using data from a national clinical registry—the Cerebral Palsy Follow-Up Program (CPFP)—and proxy-reported questionnaires. Data from the CPFP database showed that female sex was associated with a lower PA level. Additional questionnaire data revealed age, popliteal angle limitation, Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument–Sports and Physical Functioning Scale score, screen time, Functional Mobility Scale score at 50 m, and fatigue as predictors. The proposed models can be used for the prediction and early detection of the PA level and consequently for the potential improvement among ambulant/semiambulant individuals with CP. Purpose: Previous studies have investigated the role of gender in clinical symptoms, social functioning, and neuropsychological performance in people with first-episode psychosis (FEP). However, the evidence of gender differences for metacognition in subjects with FEP is still limited and controversial. The aim of the present study was to explore gender differences in cognitive insight and cognitive biases in this population. Methods: Cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 104 patients with FEP (35 females and 69 males) recruited from mental health services. Symptoms were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, cognitive insight with the Beck Cognitive Insight Scale, and cognitive bias by the Cognitive Biases Questionnaire for Psychosis. The assessment also included clinical and sociodemographic characteristics. Results: After controlling for potential confounders (level of education, marital status, and duration of psychotic illness) analysis of covariance revealed that males presented greater self-reflectiveness (p = 0.004) when compared to females. However, no significant differences were found in self-certainty and composite index of the cognitive insight scale, as in the cognitive biases assessed. Conclusions: Gender was an independent influence factor for self-reflectiveness, being better for males. Self-reflectiveness, if shown to be relatively lacking in women, could contribute to the design of more gender-sensitive and effective psychotherapeutic treatments, as being able to self-reflect predicts to better treatment response in psychosis. This study aimed to investigate the current knowledge and experiences of consumers in Australia on adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting and their reasons for reporting or not reporting ADRs, with a focus on the use of digital tools for ADR reporting. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among adults who had taken medicine in Australia. A structured questionnaire with multiple choice or Likert scale responses with an option for participants to provide free-text responses and pretested for face validity was used. Consumer characteristics, knowledge, and ADR reporting practices were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Results: A total of 544 survey responses were included in the analysis. The majority of respondents were women (68%), and 22% were aged between 65 and 74 years. Fifty-eight percent (n = 317) of respondents knew that they could report ADRs to either the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), state or territory government health department, or healthcare professionals. Three-quarters (n = 405) of respondents stated that they had experienced an ADR; of these, 36% reported an ADR to either the TGA, state or territory government health department, or healthcare professionals. Among those who reported ADRs, 58% were unaware that they could use digital tools to report ADRs. The main reason for not reporting was that they did not think the ADR was serious enough to report (39%). Conclusion: Over half of consumers knew that they could report ADR; however, improved consumer awareness about using digital tools for ADR reporting and increased ADR reporting is needed. Objective: To assess efficacy of Chinese medicine (CM) on insomnia considering characteristics of treatment based on syndrome differentiation. Methods: A total of 116 participants aged 18 to 65 years with moderate and severe primary insomnia were randomized to the placebo (n=20) or the CM group (n=96) for a 4-week treatment and a 4-week follow-up. Three CM clinicians independently prescribed treatments for each patient based on syndromes differentiation. The primary outcome was change in total sleep time (TST) from baseline. Secondary endpoints included sleep onset latency (SOL), wake time after sleep onset (WASO), sleep efficiency, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and CM symptoms. Results: The CM group had an average 0.6 h more (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.3–0.9, P<0.001) TST and 34.1% (10.3%–58.0%, P=0.005) more patients beyond 0.5 h TST increment than that of the placebo group. PSQI was changed −3.3 (−3.8 to −2.7) in the CM group, a −2.0 (−3.2 to −0.8, P<0.001) difference from the placebo group. The CM symptom score in the CM group decreased −2.0 (−3.3 to −0.7, P=0.003) more than the placebo group. SOL and WASO changes were not significantly different between groups. The analysis of prescriptions by these clinicians revealed blood deficiency and Liver stagnation as the most common syndromes. Prescriptions for these clinicians displayed relative stability, while the herbs varied. All adverse events were mild and were not related to study treatment. Conclusion: CM treatment based on syndrome differentiation can increase TST and improve sleep quality of primary insomnia. It is effective and safe for primary insomnia. Background: Among individuals who use substances, the perceived stigma of substance use harms their quality of life and may be an obstacle to quitting. We explored the effect of the stigma perceived due to substance use on executive functioning. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 80 individuals who used substances and sought to quit while admitted to a public neuropsychiatric hospital in south Iran in March 2022. Data were collected using the Barkley Executive Function Questionnaire and the Stigma Scale. Statistical analyses were done using SPSS v. 25. Results: The participants' mean age was 36.56 ± 9.37 years, and most (85.0%) were males. Among them, 28 (35%) used narcotics, 7 (8.8%) used stimulants, and 45 (56.3%) used multiple substances. Increased total sigma scores correlated with deficits in self-management to time, self-organization/problem-solving, self-regulation of emotion, self-motivation, self-restraint, and total executive function. Moreover, each stigma dimension had some correlations with executive dysfunction or its subscales. Conclusions: Self-perceived stigma is directly linked with executive dysfunction in individuals who use substances and seek to quit. Since stigma and executive function both play essential roles in addiction treatment success, interventions should be adjusted to reduce self-perceived stigma and executive function deficits among individuals who use substances. Objective: The term psychotic experiences (PEs) encompass subclinical hallucinatory and delusional experiences. There are limited number of studies on PEs clinical and socio-demographic characteristics. We aimed to investigate the association between PEs and patterns of cannabis use, cognitive functions, schizotypy and childhood traumas. Methods: Participants were recruited from specialized units using the snowball method. All of the participants were regular cannabis users. Participants with PEs and without PEs were compared by looking into socio-demographic and clinical correlates. Significant variables at univariate comparisons were included in binary multivariate logistic regression analysis with PEs as the dependent variable. Results: Forty participants were recruited (20 with PEs, 20 without PEs). Adolescence onset of cannabis use (χ2 = 8.120; p < 0.05), positive schizotypy (t = 3.762; p < 0.01), Trail Making Test A (TMT A) Scores (u = 98.5; p < 0.01) and emotional neglect (u = 128; p = 0.05) were significantly associated with PEs. The binary regression model included a significant contribution of positive schizotypy (OR = 1.16, CI 1.025–1.330) and TMT A Score (OR = 1.22, CI 1.03–1.44). Conclusions: Results showed a novel positive association of PEs with adolescent-onset cannabis use, TMT A Scores, positive schizotypy and emotional neglect. This study explores the complex nature of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) by juxtaposing the mental and sexual health of women who had undergone FGM/C as part of initiation/membership into a traditional women's society (TWS) with those who were also cut but not initiated into a TWS. While considerable differences emerged between TWS members and nonmembers, there was no evidence that TWS membership was protective against the physical and psychological trauma typically ascribed to FGM/C. Background: The Individual Care Plan (ICP) for pediatric palliative care translates the general guideline recommendations into a personalized plan for the child. Various documents exist in pediatrics globally, aimed at facilitating anticipatory care or coordinating end-of-life care. The ICP aims both, but user experiences have not been studied post-development. Objective: The overall aim is to enhance knowledge and understanding of the content of the ICP from the perspectives of parents and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Design and method: We conducted a mixed-method study using a convergent parallel design consisting of questionnaires and individual and focus group interviews among parents and HCPs having user experience with the ICP. The questionnaire and interview data were analyzed separately. Quantitative data were descriptively analyzed using mean, ±SD, and median. Qualitative data were thematically analyzed. A narrative approach and joint display were used to describe the results. Results: In total, 27 parents and 161 HCPs participated. Overall, the content of the ICP was seen as important and complete, but changes and additions were called for on language, structure, and content. The chapter on the needs and wishes of child and parents was considered most important. HCPs would like to see this chapter expanded to incorporate more advance care planning outcomes, and parents wished for this chapter to reflect better who their child is. HCPs mentioned missing a chapter for palliative sedation, mainly to guide other HCPs. The ICP was appraised as not user-friendly and might possibly improve by making the ICP available in a secure digital environment. Conclusion: To meet the needs of parents and HCPs considering importance and completeness of the content of the ICP and its user-friendliness, changes are necessary in the content of the ICP, and preferably the ICP should be made digitally available. Although various documents exist globally to facilitate anticipatory care or coordinating end-of-life care, it appears that the combination of describing the values and preferences of the child and parents, along with medical decisions and life-sustaining treatments, makes the ICP a unique and comprehensive care plan. Background: In Nigeria, the attitudes of community pharmacists toward providing pharmaceutical care (PC) for people with mental illnesses remain unclear. This study aimed to assess the community pharmacists' attitudes and barriers toward providing PC services for clients with mental disorders in Enugu, Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among all eligible community pharmacists in Enugu, Nigeria. The data were obtained using validated self-administered questionnaire adapted from the literature and a sociodemographic form. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square/Fisher's Exact test. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: A total of 155 community pharmacists took part in the survey, giving a response rate of 95.6%. The findings showed that more than half of the community pharmacists (n = 80, 51.6%) had positive attitudes toward providing PC services for patients with mental illness. Positive attitudes were associated with having a family member with mental illness (p = 0.038) and a good self-rated knowledge of mental illness (p < 0.001). The most frequently reported barriers to PC were patient factors associated with their symptoms (59.4%) and a lack of patient information (52.9%). Conclusion: The attitudes of community pharmacists toward providing PC for patients with mental illness is largely positive but suboptimal. Patient factors related to their symptoms were cited as the major obstacle to providing PC. Background: Healthy lifestyle behavior includes appropriate behaviors such as eating habits, physical activity and weight control in order to stay healthy and prevent diseases. The aim of this cross-sectional study is to evaluate healthy lifestyle behaviors, physical activity levels and social media use of dental students. Methods: An online questionnaire including demographic characteristics, International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Version (IPAQ-S) and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP) was filed by 420 dental students. The data were evaluated statistically. Results: The mean age was 21.6 ± 1.96 years and the majority of the students (71.7%) were living with their families. Obesity and overweight in males and underweight in females were statistically higher. There was no difference between the genders in terms of social media use. The most preferred applications were Instagram (92.7%), YouTube (85%) and Twitter (59.7%). In terms of IPAQ durations and HPLP scores, there was no gender difference. According to the IPAQ classification, while the majority of students (64.3%) were physically low active, 23.1% were physically inactive. As the total HPLP score increased, the total IPAQ score increased. Conclusion: It is concluded that as the university students make up the majority of the young adults, encouraging their health-promoting behaviors is crucial for improving public health. Introduction: Angiography is associated with anxiety, stress, and changes in patients' vital signs. The role of the liaison nurse is to bridge gaps and solve problems between departments, thereby preventing the occurrence of undesired complications during patient transfers. Proper preparation of patients by the liaison nurse may lead to an improvement in the hemodynamic status of patients. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of liaison nurse on hemodynamic status during transfer process to angiography. Method: This randomized controlled trial was conducted from December 2019 to March 2020 on 62 patients who were candidates for elective angiography at Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method and then randomly assigned to either the control or intervention group using a lottery system. In the intervention group, patients benefited from the presence of a liaison nurse from the moment the transfer order was issued by the doctor. Tools used included a demographic information questionnaire and a hemodynamic signs checklist. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 with independent T-tests, paired T-tests, Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney test, chi-squared, and Fisher's exact test. Result: Following the intervention, the mean systolic blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate in the intervention group were found to be significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). In contrast, the mean body temperature, diastolic blood pressure and the percentage of arterial blood oxygen saturation did not exhibit a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The liaison nurse role emerges as a valuable strategy for enhancing patients' hemodynamic stability, and its implementation can have a positive impact on patient outcomes in hospital settings. Background: New daily persistent headache (NDPH) is a continuous, unremitting headache from onset that yields suboptimal results with traditional medicines. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has emerged as a promising non-invasive treatment for other headache disorders, such as migraine, and neuromodulation has not been well-studied in NDPH. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of rTMS in reducing the frequency and severity of headaches, and associated anxiety and depressive symptoms in NDPH patients. Methods: This was an open label prospective, single arm, interventional pilot study conducted between October 2022 and September 2023. All eligible participants received 10 Hz rTMS (600 pulses, 10 trains), delivered to the left prefrontal cortex for three consecutive days. The post-rTMS headache severity was recorded weekly for four weeks and headache free days/functional disability, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 scores at the end of four weeks and compared with pre-rTMS parameters. The primary outcome was defined by ≥ 50% reduction in headache severity on Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, decrease in headache days from the baseline and secondary outcome was ≥ 6 point reduction in HIT-6 score at 4 weeks. Results: Fifty NDPH patients (mean [SD] age, 35.06 [13.91] years; 31 females [62%]) participated in this study. Thirty-five patients (70%) reported ≥ 50% improvement in pain severity (p-value < 0.001), with a mean reduction of 10.84 (4.88) headache days per 28 days from a baseline of 28 headache days (p-value < 0.001). Thirty-eight patients (76%) reported a ≥ 6 point's reduction in HIT score at 4 weeks. Maximum improvement in the above parameters was observed in NDPH patients with chronic migraine. Two patients reported intolerance to the sound of the rTMS. The median (IQR) PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores reduced from 11.5(3.75,20) to 7(2,15) (p-value < 0.001) and 10(3,14) to 5.5(0,9) (p-value < 0.001) respectively. Background: Organizational readiness for change, defined as the collective preparedness of organization members to enact changes, remains understudied in implementing sepsis survivor transition-in-care protocols. Effective implementation relies on collaboration between hospital and post-acute care informants, including those who are leaders and staff. Therefore, our cross-sectional study compared organizational readiness for change among hospital and post-acute care informants. Methods: We invited informants from 16 hospitals and five affiliated HHC agencies involved in implementing a sepsis survivor transition-in-care protocol to complete a pre-implementation survey, where organizational readiness for change was measured via the Organizational Readiness to Implement Change (ORIC) scale (range 12-60). We also collected their demographic and job area information. Mann-Whitney U-tests and linear regressions, adjusting for leadership status, were used to compare organizational readiness of change between hospital and post-acute care informants. Results: Eighty-four informants, 51 from hospitals and 33 from post-acute care, completed the survey. Hospital and post-acute care informants had a median ORIC score of 52 and 57 respectively. Post-acute care informants had a mean 4.39-unit higher ORIC score compared to hospital informants (p = 0.03). Conclusions: Post-acute care informants had higher organizational readiness of change than hospital informants, potentially attributed to differences in health policies, expertise, organizational structure, and priorities. These findings and potential inferences may inform sepsis survivor transition-in-care protocol implementation. Future research should confirm, expand, and examine underlying factors related to these findings with a larger and more diverse sample. Background: Malay herbal medicine (MHM) is a popular medication and supplementation among Malaysian mothers during pregnancy and postpartum. It is expected to improve the baby's health, increase breastmilk production, promote slimming and uterine involution, and improve the mother's general health. Recent increases in reports of heavy metal contamination have raised safety concerns. Objective: This pilot exploratory study employed a comparative cross-sectional design to investigate the types of MHM ingested during pregnancy and postpartum, their possible heavy metal contamination and associated health risks. Method: This study involved 167 healthy postpartum Malay women. Findings: MHM consumption was significantly associated with the mother's number of pregnancies and children (p < 0.05) as well as her pre-pregnancy weight (p < 0.05). Mothers who consume MHM were twice as likely (95% CI 1.077–3.963) to experience threatened abortion. Heavy metals were detected in the three most widely consumed MHM samples. The mean concentration of heavy metals in these samples were 47.44 ± 67.74 μg/kg for As, 25.34 ± 2.48 μg/kg for Cd, 3685.87 ± 5683.36 μg/kg for Cr and 194.33 ± 195.19 μg/kg for Pb. The calculated non-carcinogenic hazard health risks (HQ) and health index (HI) were less than one, suggesting no adverse health impacts under the exposure conditions studied. Conclusion: While the HQ and HI values indicate no immediate health risks, the potential transfer from mother to foetus during pregnancy and from mother to infant during breastfeeding warrants further investigation. Background: COPD patients show higher mortality and worse prognosis in the acute phase of COVID-19, and survivors may suffer persistent symptoms that could make them more vulnerable to exacerbations. Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the exacerbations, symptoms, quality of life, and mental health of a cohort of COPD patients. Methods: Retrospective case-control single-centre study including all COPD patients from the pulmonary consultation of University Hospital Santa Maria (Lleida, Spain) surviving COVID-19 between March 2020 and September 2021, and similar propensity-score-matched (1:2) COPD patients. Differences in COPD exacerbations, COPD clinical evolution (lung function, dyspnoea, CAT and symptoms), long COVID-19 symptoms, quality of life, and mental health, were assessed at the end of 2021. Results: We included 39 COVID-19 COPD patients and 78 similar non-COVID-19. No differences were found on exacerbations (46(59%) vs. 27(69.2%), p = 0.380), dyspnoea (2 [1; 3] vs. 2 [1; 3], p = 0.921) CAT (14.5 [10.0; 18.8] vs. 13.0 [10.0; 16.0], p = 0.432). Only the prevalence of smell or taste disorders, hair loss and tingling was higher in COVID-19 patients. No differences were found in quality of life or mental health. Conclusions: COPD patients surviving COVID-19 were not at a higher risk of COPD exacerbations nor showed significant changes in COPD clinical evolution, and only showed differences in a few very specific COVID-19 symptoms. These unexpected results suggest that the conditions triggered by the pandemic and its management could have affected COPD patients as much as actually having had COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The prevalence of heart failure is increasing owing to the aging of the population, resulting in growing medical costs and an increasing number of patients with multimorbidity. The optimal management of heart failure by general physicians in addition to internal medicine physicians, such as cardiologists, is essential, although the specifics are unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine the differences in heart failure management outcomes among older patients between those managed by general physicians and those managed by internal medicine physicians, especially in terms of hospitalization and mortality rates. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with heart failure who visited a community hospital in Japan. Patients with heart failure were selected based on International Classification of Diseases codes from electronic medical record data over 9 years, from September 2015 to August 2023. The independent variables were whether a general physician treated the patient; the primary outcome was death; the secondary outcome was hospitalization; and the covariates were patient background, including comorbidities. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between being managed by a general physician and death and hospitalization, after adjusting for confounding factors. Results: A total of 1032 patients with heart failure were identified, with a mean age of 82.4 years, and 48.9% were men. Patients treated by general physicians were older, were more likely to have dementia and were more likely to need care than those treated by internal medicine physicians. Being treated by a general physician was significantly negatively associated with death (odds ratio [OR], 0.62) and hospitalization (OR, 0.73). Conclusions: In Japan, where medical specialties are increasingly differentiated, the comprehensive management of older patients with heart failure and multiple comorbidities by general physicians may reduce hospitalization and mortality rates. Appropriate education of general physicians and an increase in their numbers may prove essential for the successful management of patients with heart failure in aging communities. Background: For patients with sepsis receiving non-invasive ventilation (NIV), early rehabilitation is crucial. The Sitting Baduanjin (SBE) is an efficient early rehabilitation exercise suitable for bed patients. There is no consensus about the effect of SBE on the early rehabilitation of septic patients with NIV. This study focused on how the SBE affected the early rehabilitation of sepsis patients with NIV. Methods: 96 sepsis patients with NIV were randomly assigned to either an Baduanjin group that received the SBE based on the routine rehabilitation exercise (n = 48) or a control group (n = 48) that received routine rehabilitation exercise. The primary outcome was the Medical Research Council(MRC)score, and the Barthel Index score, the duration of NIV, length of ICU stay, length of total stay, hospitalization expense as secondary outcomes. Results: A total of 245 sepsis patients were screened, with 96 randomly assigned. The study was completed by 90 patients out of the 96 participants.Results revealed that the MRC score increased in both groups, but the improvement of muscle strength in Baduanjin group was more obvious, with statistical significance (p < 0.001).There was statistically significantly difference between the two groups in Barthel Index at the day of transfer out of ICU(P = 0.028).The patients in the Baduanjin group had an average reduction of 24.09 h in the duration of NIV and 3.35 days in total length of hospital stay compared with the control group (p < 0.05).Of note, the Baduanjin group had significantly reduction the total hospitalization expense. No serious adverse events occurred during the intervention period. Conclusions: In patients with sepsis, the SBE appears to improve muscle strength and activities of daily living (ADL), and lowed the duration of NIV, the length of the total stay, and the hospitalization expense. Objectives: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate if serum levels of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and CC chemokine ligand 17 (CCL17) correlate with disease activity in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and peripheral spondyloarthritis (pSpA) patients. Patients and methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted with 80 individuals (48 females, 32 males; mean age: 47.7±11.5 years) between March 2021 and September 2021. Of the participants, 20 were axSpA, 20 were pSpA, and 20 were active rheumatoid arthritis patients, and the remaining 20 were healthy controls. Age, sex, body mass index, disease duration, comorbid diseases, smoking status, medical treatments, C-reactive protein (CRP) level and human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) positivity were recorded. Serum GM-CSF and CCL17 levels were analyzed by ELISA. Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score with CRP (ASDAS-CRP) was used to evaluate the disease activity of patients with spondyloarthritis. Functional status of spondyloarthritis patients was evaluated by Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI). Results: While the serum GM-CSF levels were similar in the axSpA and pSpA groups, they were significantly higher than the healthy control group (p=0.021 and p=0.009, respectively). There was a significant correlation between GM-CSF levels and ASDAS-CRP (r=0.545, p=0.013) and BASFI (r=0.546, p=0.013) in the axSpA group. In active axSpA patients, the cut-off value for GM-CSF was 15.89 pg/mL (sensitivity 50%, specificity 100%). No differences were detected in serum CCL17 levels among the groups. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the blood protective effect of autologous platelet-rich plasma in aortic root reconstruction under longtime cardiopulmonary bypass. Method: Patients who underwent aortic root reconstruction between August 2018 and August 2022 were included and divided into experimental and control groups according to whether autologous platelet-rich plasmapheresis was used or not. The experimental group included 112 patients (90 males aged 39.00 [28.75–49.00] years), and the control group included 112 patients (90 males aged 37.00 [27.00–46.25] years). The clinical data for example EuroSCORE II cardiovascular surgery risk score, blood routine and other indicators were collected from the two groups. Results: The transfusion volume of allogeneic red blood cells in the experimental group (52 cases without blood transfusion, 23 cases with 1–2 units, 15 cases with 3–4 units, and 22 cases with 5 units and above) was significantly lower than that in the control group (32 cases without transfusion, 34 cases with 1–2 units, 22 cases with 3–4 units, and 24 cases with 5 units or more) (Z = −2.06, p < 0.05). Resternotomy/thoracotomy occurred in 11 cases (9.8%) in the experimental group and 23 cases (20.5%) in the control group (RR = 2.37, 95% CI: 1.1–5.14, p < 0.05). The number of bleeding events in the experimental group (18 cases, 16.1%) was significantly less than that in the control group (33 cases, 29.5%) (RR = 2.18, 95% CI: 1.14–4.17, p < 0.05). Conclusions: The application of autologous platelet-rich plasma in a long-time cardiopulmonary bypass aortic root reconstruction can reduce the amount of allogeneic blood transfusion and the occurrence of bleeding events, which is beneficial for blood protection. This study in China aimed to explore the impact of maternal depression on infant–mother attachment and whether parenting status moderated this relationship. Women underwent depression assessments at seven perinatal time points: ≤12, 17, 21, 31, and 37 weeks of pregnancy, as well as 1 and 6 weeks postpartum. Those completing at least three times assessments, along with their infants, were invited for infant–mother attachment assessment at 12–18 months postpartum. Among 233 infant–mother pairs completing the infant–mother attachment assessment, 62 and 80 mothers had postnatal depression and perinatal major depression, respectively; 75 (32.2%) of infants exhibited insecure attachment. While infants whose mothers had maternal depression showed a slightly elevated rate of insecure attachment, this difference did not achieve statistical significance. Additionally, parenting status did not influence the relationship between maternal depression and infant–mother attachment. Nevertheless, the study hinted that more physical contact between mother and infant might reduce insecure attachment likelihood. Future research should expand sample sizes and assessment points for better understanding. In addition, encouraging close interaction and physical touch between mother and infant may be beneficial. Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to characterize the differences between respiration and swallowing in patients with dysphagia after cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) and to explore the underlying physiological changes. Method: A total of 95 participants were recruited for bedside swallowing evaluation followed by a flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and surface electromyography with a thermocouple nasal airflow sensor examination: 32 with dysphagia, 33 without dysphagia, and 30 healthy controls. The differences in respiratory patterns, swallowing apnea duration (SAD), inspiratory-expiratory ratio, and swallowing efficiency were observed among healthy adults, CSCI patients with and without dysphagia after CSCI. Results: Compared with those of healthy controls and patients without dysphagia after CSCI, the postswallow respiratory pattern of patients with dysphagia after CSCI was an inspiratory pattern, and the SAD was significantly shorter in patients with dysphagia after CSCI (p < .001). Additionally, the expiratory time in patients with dysphagia was significantly shorter than the inspiratory time, and the swallowing efficiency was reduced, requiring multiple swallows. Moreover, the index of SAD was statistically significant for predicting the development of dysphagia in patients with CSCI (p < .001). Conclusion: Patients with CSCI have an inspiratory pattern after swallowing, and the SAD is significantly reduced; SAD can be used as the predictor of dysphagia in patients after CSCI; the pattern of coordination between respiration and swallowing in patients with dysphagia after CSCI is different from that of healthy controls and patients without dysphagia after CSCI. Purpose: The purpose of the current study was to assess dual-task interference (i.e., changes between the dual-task and baseline condition) in a listening effort dual-task paradigm in normal-hearing (NH) adults, hearing aid (HA) users, and cochlear implant (CI) users. Method: Three groups of 31 participants were included: (a) NH adults, (b) HA users, and (c) CI users. The dual-task paradigm consisted of a primary speech understanding task in a quiet condition, and a favorable and unfavorable noise condition, and a secondary visual memory task. Dual-task interference was calculated for both tasks, and participants were classified based on their patterns of interference. Descriptive analyses were established and differences between the three groups were examined. Results: The descriptive results showed varying patterns of dual-task interference between the three listening conditions. Most participants showed the pattern of visual memory interference (i.e., worse results for the secondary task in the dual-task condition and no difference for the primary task) in the quiet condition, whereas the pattern of speech understanding priority trade-off (i.e., worse results for the secondary task in the dual-task condition and better results for the primary task) was most prominent in the unfavorable noise condition. Particularly, in HA and CI users, this shift was seen. However, the patterns of dual-task interference were not statistically different between the three groups. Conclusions: Results of this study may provide additional insight into the interpretation of dual-task paradigms for measuring listening effort in diverse participant groups. OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were to describe burnout, mental health, and healthy lifestyle behaviors of nurses in a managerial role and assess associations among workplace culture factors (perceived culture, mattering, support, and staff shortages) with burnout, mental health outcomes, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. BACKGROUND: Nurse managers foster unit-based wellness cultures, yet burnout and mental health problems adversely impact the culture and well-being of staff. METHODS: A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was used. The Florida Organization forNursing Leadership enabled distribution of a wellness survey to nurse managers. RESULTS: There were 125 participants. Healthy lifestyle behaviors were infrequently practiced. Analysis revealed significant correlations among workplace culture factors, burnout, and mental health outcomes. When compared with nurse managers with staff shortages, those without staff shortages were 6.11 times more likely to not screen positive for burnout. CONCLUSIONS: Health systems should address workplace culture factors and staff shortages to reduce burnout, improve mental health, and enhance healthy behaviors in nurse managers. Objective This study was designed to compare thiol/disulfide and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels between psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and healthy controls and evaluate the correlation between these molecules and the disease activity scores used in PsA. Methods A total of 63 PsA patients and 49 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), modified disease activity score 28 (DAS28), and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) scores were used as disease activity indices for PsA patients. Calculations of native thiol (-SH), disulfide (-SS), and total thiol (-SH+-SS) molecules were made by the automatic spectrophotometric method, and the albumin cobalt binding test was used to measure IMA levels. Results In the PsA group, -SS/-SH and -SS/(-SH+-SS) levels were higher and -SH/(-SH+-SS) levels were lower than in controls. In the linear regression analysis, a significant correlation relationship was detected between DAS28-erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and -SS/(-SH+-SS) (β = 0.795, CI 95%, 0.196-1.395; P =.010), -SH/(-SH+-SS) (β = -0.475, CI 95%, 0.114-0.836; P =.010) and IMA (β = 3.932, CI 95%, 0.859-7.005; P =.013). Additionally, a significant correlation was detected between IMA and BASDAI and BASFI. Conclusion In PsA, thiol/disulfide homeostasis has shifted in favor of disulfide as an oxidative indicator. Objective This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of intravenous ramosetron for pain relief in patients with fibromyalgia (FM) unresponsive to conventional treatments. Methods In this prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 80 FM patients were randomly allocated to receive either placebo (n  = 40) or ramosetron (n  = 40) at a dosage of 0.3 mg/day intravenously for five consecutive days. The primary outcome was the reduction in pain intensity at the end of the treatment period, evaluated using a visual analogue scale (VAS). Secondary outcome measures included the FM Impact Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Multi-Dimensional Health Assessment Questionnaire (MDHAQ), EQ-5D and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory on days 5 (end of treatment), 7, 10 and 28. Safety was continuously monitored throughout the study. Results At the end of the treatment phase, the ramosetron group demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in VAS pain scores compared with the placebo group (1.18 ± 1.60 vs 0.54 ± 1.59, P  < 0.05). Additionally, the ramosetron group exhibited significant improvements in BDI (4.42 ± 5.18 vs 1.33 ± 4.87, P  < 0.05) and MDHAQ pain scale (0.37 ± 0.74 vs 0.04 ± 0.52, P  < 0.05) scores. However, these improvements in pain VAS and BDI scores were not sustained through day 28. The safety profile of ramosetron was favorable, with gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly constipation, being the most commonly reported adverse events. Conclusions Intravenous administration of ramosetron provided safe and effective short-term relief of pain intensity in FM patients with inadequate response to standard treatments. Objective: To investigate the impact of yoga on successful aging based on the selection, optimization, and compensation model in elderly women. Design: Quasi‐experimental study. Sample: Seniors' meeting points and parks and clubs for the old age pensioners of the ministry of education, ministry of healthcare, and the oil corporation in Shiraz, Iran. 68 elderly women within the age range of 60–86 years were divided into a yoga and a control group. Measurements: The subjects in both groups were asked to complete the selection, optimization, and compensation model questionnaire before and after the intervention. Successful aging was measured using the selection, optimization, and compensation questionnaire. Intervention: The yoga training program was implemented in 1‐h sessions twice a week for eight weeks. Results: After eight weeks of yoga training, the results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest successful aging total scores of the yoga group (P =.005). However, the difference between the yoga and control groups' posttest mean total scores was not significant (P =.601). Conclusion: Based on the results, it seems that yoga training can improve successful aging. Thus, yoga is recommended as an inexpensive and entertaining method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Per-oral plication of the (neo)esophagus (POPE) is an endoscopic procedure used to improve emptying of the defunctionalized esophagus or gastric conduit, with the hope of improving symptoms and quality of life. As this procedure has only been performed in the United States for the past 4 years, safety and efficacy have not been well established. Methods: This is a retrospective case series for patients who underwent POPE from a single institution between 2019 and 2023. Data collected included demographics, preoperative diagnoses and treatments, imaging, endoscopic data, operative intervention, 90-day complications, and response to treatment. Quality of life and patient satisfaction data were collected by phone survey. Results: Seventeen cases were identified, encompassing 13 primary procedures and 4 repeat POPEs (re-POPE). Eight patients had end-stage achalasia and 5 had impaired gastric emptying after esophagectomy with gastric conduits. Median age was 65 years and median ASA was 3, with 38.5% female patients. POPE was performed with 2–6 plication sutures in an average of 75 min. The majority of patients discharged home the same day. For the 17 procedures, there were 4 complications. Two patients required antibiotics for pneumonia, while 4 required procedural intervention. There were no deaths. Preoperative symptoms improved or resolved at initial follow up in 82.3% of patients. Four patients experienced symptom recurrence and required re-POPE, 1 with achalasia and 3 with gastric conduits. Although all achalasia patients had an "end-stage esophagus," none have required esophagectomy since the introduction of POPE. Conclusions: POPE is an endoscopic procedure that is efficacious in relieving emptying difficulties for the end-stage esophagus and gastric conduit. It may obviate the need for esophagectomy or conduit replacement. Also, it can be repeated in select patients. While the risk profile of complications is favorable compared to alternative operations, patients with gastric conduits are at higher risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The adoption of Robotic Pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) is increasing globally. Meanwhile, reduced-port RPD (RPRPD) remains uncommon, requiring robot-specific techniques not possible with laparoscopy. We introduce a unique RPRPD technique optimizing surgical field exposure. Methods: Our RPRPD utilizes a single-site plus-two ports technique, facilitated by a single-port platform through a 5-cm incision. The configuration of robotic arms (arm1, arm2, arm3, and arm4) were strategically designed for optimal procedural efficiency, with the arms2 and arm3, alongside the assistant trocar, mounted on the single-port platform, while the arms1 and arm4 were positioned laterally across the abdomen. Drainage was established via channels created at the arm1 and arm4 insertion sites. A "gooseneck traction" was principally employed with the robotic instrument to prop up the specimen rather than grasp, improving the surgical field's visibility and access. Clinical outcomes of patients who underwent RPRPD performed between August 2020 and September 2023 by a single surgeon across two centers in Taiwan and Japan were reviewed. Results: Fifty patients underwent RPRPD using the single-site plus-two ports technique. The gooseneck traction technique enabled goodsurgical field deployment and allowed for unrestricted movement of robotic arms with no collisions with the assistant instruments. The median operative time was 351 min (250–488 min), including 271 min (219–422 min) of console time and three minutes (2–10 min) of docking time. The median estimated blood loss was 80 mL (1–872 mL). All RPRPD procedures were successfully performed without the need for conversion to open surgery. Postoperative major morbidity (i.e., Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ IIIa) was observed in 6 (12%) patients and median postoperative hospital stay was 13 days. Conclusions: The single-site plus-two ports RPRPD with the gooseneck traction proves to be a safe, feasible option, facilitating surgical field visibility and robotic arm maneuverability. OBJECTIVES: To understand and describe attitudes toward general health checkups, breast health knowledge, cultural beliefs, and health-promoting behaviors among Myanmar American immigrant women in the United States. SAMPLE & SETTING: 267 women participated in the study. 10 women were excluded because of missing data, so the total sample size was 257 participants. METHODS & VARIABLES: A descriptive, crosssectional survey design was used to describe and investigate breast health perceptions and behaviors. RESULTS: Nearly 75% of the study sample reported having negative attitudes toward general health checkups and were found to have less accurate breast health knowledge and more fatalistic views about breast cancer. Only 29% of older women adhered to mammogram recommendations. Younger women reported more barriers to mammograms, and older women reported fewer barriers to mammograms. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: This study demonstrated the need for additional research focusing on unique perspectives when investigating breast health practices among Myanmar American immigrant women. Background: Association between liver cirrhosis (LC) and glucose intolerance has been known since long. Many studies in the past have attempted to explore the correlation of glucose metabolism disorders (GMD) with the severity of LC with mixed results (some favouring i.e. higher prevalence of GMD in more severe LC; others negating). This study was conducted to shed further light on the significance of this association. Objective: This study has been carried out with the aim of studying the correlation between GMD and the severity of LC, as determined by the Child-Turcotte-Pughe (CTP) score. Methods: 100 patients with LC admitted in medical wards were studied and tested with fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2 h post-75 g oral glucose load plasma glucose (PPG), glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and fasting plasma insulin. They were categorized based on the severity of LC into CTP A, B or C class and then patients belonging to different classes were compared for the presence of GMD and insulin resistance (IR). Conclusion: Out of 100 patients, 6, 21 and 73 were respectively found as falling under CTP class A, B and C of LC. The frequency of diabetes mellitus (DM) was found to progressively increase with worsening grade of cirrhosis (17%-A, 24%-B and 27%-C), however this was not significant (p value 0.82). The p values for IR, GMD (pre-diabetes or DM), pre-diabetes (pre-DM) were 0.629, 0.382 and 0.189 respectively. To conclude, development of GMD and IR may be independent of the severity of LC. Objective: To analyse the influence of the COVID‐19 pandemic and the perception of self‐efficacy on the health professionals of the Spanish out‐of‐hospital emergency services. Design: Observational, cross‐sectional and descriptive with a survey methodology of 1710 participants from Spain (1 February–30 April, 2021). Methods: The mental health of healthcare workers was assesed in terms of stress, anxiety and depression, as well as their self‐efficacy. Linear and logistic regression models were fitted to predict these variables. A moderation analysis was conducted to determine the effect of self‐efficacy on mental health. Results: The means of the sample for stress, anxiety, depression and self‐efficacy were 20.60, 15.74, 13.07 and 70.87, respectively. In the regression models, being a woman was the most significant factor for severe mental health impairment. Female gender was also a relevant factor for self‐efficacy. Self‐efficacy had a direct effect on the mental health for working in patient care. Conclusions: Healthcare workers showed moderate stress, severe anxiety, mild depression and good self‐efficacy. Direct patient care was associated with more stress and severe anxiety. Age, female gender, job changes and job adjustment were associated with levels of stress, anxiety and depression. Self‐efficacy is a determining factor of mental health in the direct care modality. Implications: The mental health of healthcare workers has been of great importance in the aftermath of the pandemic, but out‐of‐hospital emergency workers have been neglected in research. The levels of stress, anxiety and depression during the pandemic justify the creation of prevention and early diagnosis programmes, as they are essential in a health disaster. Surprisingly, their high level of perceived self‐efficacy directly impact on the mental health of patient helthcare workers, so improving it will reduce the psychological risk. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of Women's Postpartum Sexual Health Program (WPSHP) on Iranian women's sexual health in the postpartum period. A single-blinded randomized clinical trial was conducted in 2016 on 80 postnatal women in Iran. We used the Female Sexual Function Index, Sexual Quality of Life - Female questionnaire and Female Sexual Distress Scale. The intervention group received counseling based on WPSHP. After 28 weeks, the mean score of the Female Sexual Function Index and Female Sexual Quality of Life significantly increased in the WPSH group (p < 0.001, p < 0.001), while the mean score of the Female Sexual Distress significantly decreased in the WPSH group (p < 0.001). We concluded that Women's Postpartum Sexual Health Program could promote postnatal women's sexual function and female sexual quality of life and reduces female sexual distress in women suffering from sexual problems in the postpartum period. Background: Oncology nurses constantly provide emotional support to patients and are confronted with their suffering, which represents chronic stress leading to the development of burnout syndrome. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of burnout and identify associated factors in a sample of oncology nurses. Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross‐sectional study with 70 oncology nurses at the Salah Azaiez Institute of Oncology in Tunisia. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Service Survey. This study follows the STrengthening the Reporting of OBservational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) Guidelines. Results: Burnout affected 60 nurses (85.7%), with a high level in 20% of cases. High scores of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and low personal accomplishment were recorded in 65.7%, 50% and 25.7% respectively. Emotional exhaustion was associated with higher age, marital status, having 2 or 3 or more dependent children, number of patients under care exceeding 15, professional experience and history of psychiatric problems. Depersonalisation was correlated with age, marital status, professional grade and history of psychiatric problems. Low levels of personal accomplishment increased with the number of patients under care, history of psychiatric problems and the regret of professional choice. Conclusion: Burn‐out is a reality in oncology hospital with an alarming rate. Interventions including rationalisation of workload, support groups, training in emotion and stress management would improve the mental health of these nurses and increase their performance. The screening for burnout should be included as a regular practice in health promotion programmes for oncology health professionals, particularly for a vulnerable subgroup that possesses the risk mentioned above factors. BACKGROUND: The balanced transfusion of blood components plays a leading role in traumatic hemostatic resuscitation. Yet, previous whole blood studies have only focused on urban trauma center settings. OBJECTIVE: To compare component vs whole blood therapy on wastage rates and mortality in the rural setting. METHODS: This study was a nonrandomized, retrospective, observational, single-center study on a cold-stored whole blood program implementation for adult massive transfusions from 2020 to 2022 at a Level II trauma center. Trauma registry data determined the facility's whole blood needs and facilitated sustainable blood supplies. Whole blood use protocols were established, and utilization and laboratory compliance for incompatible ABO antibody hemolysis was monitored and reviewed monthly at stakeholder and trauma services meetings. RESULTS: From 2018 to 2019, the facility initiated component therapy massive transfusions every 9 days (n = 41). Therefore, four units of low-titer, O-positive whole blood delivered fortnightly was determined to provide patient coverage and minimize wastage. Across the study time frame (2020–2022), there were n = 68 hemodynamically unstable patients, consisting of those receiving whole blood, n = 37, and patients receiving component therapy, n = 31. Mortality rates were significantly lower (p =.030) in the whole blood population (n = 3, 8%) compared to those solely receiving component therapy (n = 9, 29%). Wastage rates were constantly evaluated; in 2021, 43.4% was not utilized, and in 2022, this was reduced to 38.7%. Anecdotally, nurses appreciated the ease of administration and documentation of transfusing whole blood, as it negated ratio compliance. BACKGROUND: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is frequent in patients with spinal-cord injury (SCI). However, SDB is frequently underdiagnosed due to limited access to diagnostic testing and knowledge about the condition. Moreover, SDB heterogeneity (sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea or central sleep apnea and nocturnal alveolar hypoventilation) implies complex evaluation of both nocturnal respiratory effort and hypercapnia. The aim of this study was to compare different screening strategies for an SDB diagnosis in patients with SCI. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of data from subjects with SCI followed up in a tertiary-care rehabilitation center with a specialized sleep unit. Subjective (questionnaires) and objective data (polysomnography [PSG]), ... extracted from the PSG, morning blood gases, and nocturnal transcutaneous CO2 (...) were collected and analyzed. A retrospective comparison of different strategies for SDB screening was carried out. Each strategy was compared (alone and in combination) with the standard of care for sleep apnea (PSG) and nocturnal alveolar hypoventilation (...) diagnosis. Background: Hypertensive patients with high-risk comorbidities require medications for each condition, leading to greater burden. The number of chronic conditions can affect patients' concurrent medication adherence. Objective: We aimed to compare the characteristics of groups based on their concurrent medication adherence and investigate the association between the number of high-risk comorbidities and concurrent medication adherence for patients with hypertension and high-risk comorbidities. Methods: A secondary data analysis was performed with the 2018 Korea Health Panel Survey, including 2230 patients with hypertension and at least 1 high-risk comorbidity who were prescribed medications for at least 2 conditions. Using medication adherence for each condition, we identified 3 concurrent medication adherence groups: adherent, suboptimal, and nonadherent groups. Multinominal logistic regression was used to determine the association between the number of high-risk comorbidities and the concurrent medication adherence groups. Results: Adherent, suboptimal, and nonadherent groups included 85%, 11%, and 4% of the patients, respectively. Whereas having more high-risk comorbidities was associated with belonging to the suboptimal group compared with the adherent group (adjusted odds ratio, 1.46), having fewer high-risk comorbidities was associated with belonging to the nonadherent group compared with the adherent group (adjusted odds ratio, 0.52). Conclusions: We identified 3 groups based on their concurrent medication adherence. Background: Limited knowledge exists regarding patients' denial of myocardial infarction (MI) before hospitalization for an MI. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and correlates of denial of MI in the prehospital phase of a confirmed MI. Methods: This secondary analysis included 166 hospitalized patients (mean [SD] age, 54.1 [10.5] years) who developed MI outside a healthcare facility and had high congruence between their experienced and expected symptoms. Measurements included the Denial subscale of the Brief COPE Inventory, the modified Response to Symptoms Questionnaire, and a Likert scale measuring perceived risk for MI. Patients who arrived at a hospital at least 1 hour after the onset of their symptoms were considered to have prolonged prehospital delay. Results: Despite their high symptom congruence, 77% of patients denied the possibility of having an MI before hospitalization. The lower denial group was characterized by cardiac history, whereas the higher denial group was distinguished by nonsmoking, a lower perceived risk of MI, less anxiety at symptom onset, and more concerns about seeking medical help. Compared with the lower denial group, patients in the higher denial group were more likely to underestimate the seriousness of their symptoms and delay seeking medical help. The higher denial group responded to symptoms in a more passive manner (eg, waiting), whereas the lower denial group showed a more problem-solving approach (eg, contacting emergency services). Background: Keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) is a common malignancy characterized by a high recurrence rate and considerable psychological distress. The incidence of KC is increasing in China, raising concerns about its psychological consequences and adverse effects on quality of life. Demographic and clinical factors are thought to influence mental health outcomes in these patients. Nonetheless, data on the prevalence of anxiety in Chinese patients with KC and the factors associated with this anxiety are notably lacking. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation into the anxiety of patients with KC is imperative. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety in patients with KC, a disease that can significantly affect a patient's appearance and overall quality of life. Understanding the level of anxiety in this population is critical to developing targeted interventions, improving treatment outcomes, supporting mental health, and improving patient care practices. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at China's largest dermatology hospital from November 2017 to September 2022. A consecutive sampling method was used to recruit participants. Anxiety status was surveyed by the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Explanatory variables were surveyed by demographic data questionnaires. Non-parametric test and Chi-square test analyses were used to compare the differences between groups. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with anxiety. Results: A total of 192 patients with KC were included. The median score of SAS was 35 (IQR 16.25). The prevalence of anxiety in patients with KC was 20.8%. Females (p = 0.008), under 60 years old (p = 0.011), living in rural (p = 0.010) or urban areas (p = 0.029), having fewer than three children (p = 0.016), with a history of skin diseases (p < 0.001), with a history of long-term oral medication (p = 0.001), and experiencing pain or itching (p = 0.001) had SAS scores that were significantly higher than their counterparts. Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of anxiety was very high among Chinese patients with KC, especially among women, young patients, rural residents, patients with fewer than three children, and individuals with a history of skin disease, long-term oral medications, or symptoms of pain or itching. BACKGROUND: While absenteeism refers to not attending work, presenteeism is defined as not being present at work. These two conditions, which negatively affect employee health, can be indicators of work efficiency, work peace, work safety and work engagement. OBJECTIVE: Several factors were evaluated in this study concerning absenteeism and presenteeism among factory workers. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted among workers in a factory operating in a heavy industry in southern Turkey in 2021. A survey consisting of 57 questions was applied to 152 factory workers by face-to-face interview method. The participants' behaviour over the last month was evaluated regarding absenteeism and presenteeism. RESULTS: It was reported that 24 (15.8%) of all employees were absent from work in the last month (absenteeism), excluding holidays and sick leave, and that 20 (13.2%) employees engaged in presenteeism, working when they should not have been at the workplace. There was a high absenteeism rate among employees who had an acute illness and were dissatisfied with their jobs. Several factors have been associated with presenteeism, including poor economic conditions, family health problems, previous unemployment, working overtime, job dissatisfaction, poor relationships with colleagues and difficulty finding a replacement, acute illness, sleep problems and fatigue. CONCLUSIONS: To increase the productivity and commitment of employees, it may be useful to identify the reasons for absenteeism and present behaviours, to facilitate effective interpersonal communication skills by examining the organisational climate of employees, and to regulate workload based on a comprehensive assessment of the health status of employees. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a life-changing event that often results in chronic physical damage and challenges in maintaining a good quality of life as it affects every aspect of life. These situations require adjustment, increasing vulnerability to psychological disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of SCI on psychological morbidity in individuals with subacute and chronic SCI. The present investigation was designed to determine the presence and extent of psychological complications following SCI. We used two reliable questionnaires and validated psychological assessments to study depression (BDI) and anxiety (STAI), a broad range of factors derived from SCI that may be predictors of certain psychological problems. The psychological assessment revealed alterations in depression and anxiety, although the data do not exceed those of previous investigations. No clear predisposing factors leading to certain psychological pathologies were found. In addition, individuals in the subacute and chronic stages differed in their scores. In individuals with SCI, identifying predictors of psychological problems is difficult, but premature assessment of mental state is essential. This early diagnosis of possible problems or changes at the mental level is fundamental and necessary to avoid possible alterations at the cognitive level and, of course, more serious mental complications. The highest prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors has been associated with obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and elevated blood pressure due to high workload and work stress. This study aimed to analyze the cardiometabolic risk and lifestyles among the health sciences university academics and campus administrators at a private university in Spain. A cross-sectional study was conducted during the 2018–2019 academic year by the Nursing Department, using a self-administered questionnaire and face-to-face assessments of anthropometric variables related to cardiovascular risk in university personnel. The variables measured included sociodemographics, cardiovascular risk history, comorbidities, toxic habits, Mediterranean diet adherence, physical exercise, psychosocial stress, and physical, anthropometric, and analytical data. Cardiovascular risk was categorized into relative (<40 years), absolute, and vascular age (>40 years). Among the 101 participants, 61.4% were women, with a mean age of 41.3 years ± 9 years. The smoking prevalence was 21.8% (68.2% women), 27.7% were sedentary, and 51.0% adhered to the Mediterranean diet, with higher adherence among the academics. Emotional risk was present in 32.7% of the participants. A prior diagnosis of hypertension was significantly more frequent in the men (15.4%) compared to the women (3.2%). The blood pressure measurements were mostly optimal across both genders and professional groups, but the proportion of hypertension grade 1 was significantly higher among the academics (10%) compared to the administrators (4.5%) and among the men (11.1%) compared to the women (5.9%). The absolute cardiovascular risk among the university employees was generally low, but the men exhibited a more moderate risk compared to the women. Background: Breastfeeding is the gold standard in infant nutrition. Successful breastfeeding depends on many factors, including the help of medical personnel in teaching breastfeeding, the need for professional work, and breastfeeding-friendly places in public spaces. The main goal was to identify various barriers among mothers to breastfeeding. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive research design. We recruited 419 mothers aged at least 18 years old through social media. Results were analysed using Pearson's chi-squared and Fisher's tests of independence for pairs of dependent and independent variables. Results: Most often, women gave birth at the age of 25–30, had one or two children, and attended higher education. Almost half of them lived in a large city and gave birth to a child by caesarean section. A total of 83.1% of mothers planned to breastfeed, but not all of them were able to do so for various reasons. One-third of them felt sorry for themselves that they had to change their feeding method. The majority of mothers did not receive sufficient help in the hospital in terms of learning how to breastfeed (61%), did not use the help of a lactation consultant (67%), and answered that there was no lactation consultant in their place of residence (65%). Only 43.2% of mothers returned to work without ceasing breastfeeding. A total of 42% of mothers experienced feelings of embarrassment when breastfeeding in a public place. The most frequently indicated barrier to breastfeeding in a public place was the lack of a suitable location where a woman would feel comfortable, calm, and intimate. Conclusion: There are various barriers towards breastfeeding: too few lactation consultants, problems with breastfeeding when the mother wants to return to work, and unfriendly places for breastfeeding in public spaces. Healthcare workers face significant mental health challenges, including stress, burnout, and psychological distress, leading to high rates of mental health symptoms and even suicide attempts, as well as an increase in medication errors and unprofessional behavior. Targeted interventions are needed to address these issues. However, promoting healthier traits in medical students or refining selection could also prove beneficial, as research shows that mental health is significantly influenced by personality traits and personal values. This study examines the relationship between personality traits, values, and attitudes toward professionalism among medical students in Slovenia. A total of 996 participants were examined in three data collections from the academic years 2015–2016 to 2019–2020 using the Big Five Questionnaire, the Personal Values Scale, and the Attitude Toward Professionalism Scale. Hierarchical linear regression analysis was conducted to examine the factors associated with professionalism. The results showed that attitudes toward professionalism were stable over the years, with higher scores consistently associated with the female gender, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Conversely, material value orientation had a negative impact on professionalism. In addition, we examine the associations between mental health and personality traits, personal values, and attitudes toward professionalism to illustrate the importance of selecting and nurturing medical students, based on traits that promote mental health and professional behavior. Men who have sex with men are at an increased risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections, and although behavioral and contextual interventions have improved, infections continue to spread. Therefore, a new focus on recent trends in sexual health in this population is needed. The aim of this study was to describe the relationship between sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics according to Grindr usage patterns, the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and attitudes toward HIV testing. In January 2020, a cross-sectional study was conducted using a sample of 881 men who have sex with men (MSM) who completed an online questionnaire. We evaluated their Grindr use patterns (moderate or intensive) and explored the associations of these with sociodemographic behavioral characteristics, STIs, and attitudes toward HIV testing. Of 881 participants in total, 587 (66.6%) were intensive Grindr users. Compared to moderate users, these participants reported significantly higher numbers of casual sexual partners (76.2% vs. 23.8%; p < 0.001), were more likely to participate in Chemsex (77.3% vs. 22.7%: p = 0.031), and had a higher self-reported number of STIs (69.9% vs. 30.1; p = 0.046). They also demonstrated better attitudes toward HIV testing (69.7% vs. 30.3%; p = 0.045) and perceived themselves to be at moderate risk of HIV (71.2% vs. 28.8%: p = 0.048). Moreover, intensive Grindr users were 1.36 times more likely than moderate users to test positive for STIs (95%CI = 1.15–1.91; p = 0.048). With some limitations, age, sexual partners, intensive Grindr users, and PrEP uses were associated with the risk of STIs in the sample of Spanish Grindr users studied. As Grindr users are vulnerable to sociodemographic and behavioral factors that determine STIs and HIV infection, mainly among intensive users, it is necessary to highlight the importance of new trends such as online dating apps, PrEP use, substance use in sex, and Chemsex, and these need to be incorporated into online public health strategies. Background: Preparing healthcare systems for emergencies is crucial to maintaining healthcare quality. Nursing homes (NHs) require tailored emergency plans. This article aims to develop a typology of French private NHs and study their early COVID-19 responses and mortality outcomes. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among NHs of a French network consisting of 290 facilities during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A Hierarchical Clustering on Principal Components (HCPC) was conducted to develop the typology of the NHs. Association tests were used to analyze the relationships between the typology, prevention and control measures, COVID-19 mortality, and the satisfaction of hospitalization requests. Results: The 290 NHs vary in size, services, and location characteristics. The HCPC identified three clusters: large urban NHs with low levels of primary care (Cluster 1), small rural NHs (Cluster 2), and medium urban NHs with high levels of primary care (Cluster 3). The COVID-19 outcomes and response measures differed by cluster, with Clusters 1 and 2 experiencing higher mortality rates. Nearly all the NHs implemented preventive measures, but the timing and extent varied. Conclusions: This typology could help in better preparing NHs for future health emergencies, allowing for targeted resource allocation and tailored adaptations. (1) Background: During and after the pandemic, individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle due to psychological distress and the struggle to accommodate contextual challenges and changes in their family and work obligations and expectations. This study aims to explore the long-term impacts of the pandemic on proactive self-management behaviors and outcomes that consider contextual and environmental factors, such as family and work dynamics. (2) Methods: In this mixed-method study, data were collected from 418 participants using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), followed by 16 individual interviews. (3) Results: The prevalence of depression was 37.1%, that of anxiety was 59.1%, and that of insomnia was 66.3%. Significant differences were observed in anxiety by age (p = 0.02), while individuals with other comorbidities were more likely to report insomnia (p = 0.3). Overall, various challenges during the pandemic have exacerbated emotional distress and complicated self-care routines and adherence to healthy lifestyles. (5) Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted individuals with type 1 and 2 diabetes to adopt alternative health-management methods, such as self-care, proactive initiatives, and daily challenges. Enhancing proactiveness, awareness, and an understanding of individuals' needs is crucial for alleviating stress, controlling disease, and preparing for potential future health crises in the wake of the pandemic's long-term effects. Background Many individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) experience frequent hospitalization and readmissions, which is burdensome on the health system. This study aims to investigate factors associated with unplanned readmissions and mortality following a COPD-related hospitalization over a 12-month period in Australia, focusing on mental disorders and accounting for the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A retrospective cohort study using linked hospitalization and mortality records identified individuals aged ≥40 years who had at least one hospital admission with a principal diagnosis of COPD between 2014 and 2020 in New South Wales, Australia. A semi-competing risk analysis was conducted to examine factors associated with unplanned readmission and mortality. Results Adults with a mental disorder diagnosis, specifically anxiety, had a higher risk of 12-month unplanned readmission. Individuals with anxiety and dementia also had a higher risk of mortality pre- and post-unplanned readmission. Individuals who were admitted during the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic period had lower risk of unplanned readmission, but higher risk of mortality without unplanned readmission. Conclusion Interventions aimed at reducing admissions should consider adults living with mental disorders such as anxiety or dementia to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes for individuals living with COPD. Background Early detection of obesity-promoting dietary behavior patterns improves the identification of at-risk families and the implementation of interventions. This is accomplished through the use of the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ). No study has been conducted using the CEBQ in children followed in Essonne's Maternal–Infant Protection (PMI) centers. We investigated, in a cross-sectional design, the differences in children's eating behavior with PMI follow-up according to their weight status. Methods A questionnaire addressed to parents was collected in PMI centers. Multiple hierarchical regression analysis was used to investigate the predictability of the child's CEBQ on body mass index (BMI). Results From January to April 2022, 850 children were selected, from which 500 (aged 1–6 years) were included, and of whom 10.6% were obese. There was a significant positive association between 'Food Responsiveness', 'Enjoyment of Food' and BMI. In contrast, there was a significant negative association between 'Satiety Responsiveness', 'Slowness in Eating' and BMI. Besides, 'Food approach' and 'food avoidance' behaviors were positively and negatively related to BMI z-scores, respectively. Background Earthquakes disproportionately affect women and exacerbate gender and social inequalities. This study aims to investigate the psychological impact of the earthquake in Türkiye on women and the associated factors. Methods This is a survey-based study. We collected data from 498 women residing in cities most affected by the earthquake. Results Participants' mean age was 27.72 ± 5.4. Over 78% of the participants lost at least one family member, and 43.7% lost at least one child due to the earthquake. The mean average of Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) scores was 100.8 (SD = 8.37), and the Global Severity Index was 1.9 (SD = 0.16). Regression analysis showed that higher education levels predicted poor outcomes across most BSI dimensions. Losing a family member and shelter and injury status were also predictors for several mental health outcomes of the BSI subscales. Conclusions Earthquakes significantly impact women's well-being and may have a broader impact on the whole family. There is an urgent need to provide psycho-social interventions in the response and recovery phases of the crisis to meet the affected women's needs. This includes providing basic needs with attention to women-specific needs, restoring social networks, addressing gender-based violence and providing gender-sensitive specialized interventions for those who need further support.
