Background: The handover process is a vital part of patient safety continuity, particularly conducted between nurses at the end of shifts. Nurses often face challenges in handover due to a lack of self-efficacy and inadequate communication skills. The clinical supervision model, by providing emotional, educational, and organizational support, aids in skill acquisition and instills confidence. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the clinical supervision model on nurses' self-efficacy and communication skills in the handover process within medical and surgical wards. Method: This experimental two-group (pre-and post-test) study was conducted in 2024 at selected hospital affiliated with Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan, Iran. Convenience sampling was used, and participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. Data were collected using the ISBAR communication checklist, communication clarity, the Sherer General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for handover self-efficacy, and the Manchester Clinical Supervision Scale (MCSS). The clinical supervision model and routine supervision were implemented in six sessions for the intervention and control groups, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16, employing independent t-tests, covariance analysis, paired t-tests, chi-square tests, and repeated measures ANOVA with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: No significant differences were observed between the intervention and control groups in terms of baseline characteristics. Inter-group analysis indicated that there were no significant differences in the scores of self-efficacy, ISBAR, and communication clarity between the control and intervention groups before the intervention (P > 0.05). According to the intra-group analysis, the ISBAR and communication clarity scores in the intervention group significantly increased over time (p < 0.001), whereas no such increase was observed in the control group. The intervention group showed a significant increase in general self-efficacy (p < 0.001) compared to the control group. Although both groups showed a significant improvement in handover self-efficacy, the mean scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group (p < 0.001). The mean score of the Manchester Clinical Supervision Scale in the intervention group was 128.98, indicating the high effectiveness of implementing the clinical supervision model. Conclusion: The findings indicated that the use of the clinical supervision model improves self-efficacy and communication skills in the handover process of nurses in medical and surgical wards. Introduction: Emergencies are increasingly prevalent, necessitating specialized management to address significant social disruption. Effective management of health emergencies requires resilience from governments and health institutions, as these emergencies are becoming more common and have wide-ranging consequences on health, society, and the economy. Due to the interconnected nature of our global society, events in one location can have international or even global impacts, as demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: This study aims to assess disaster management preparedness among nurses and physicians during pandemics. Methods: This study used an online survey conducted in late 2022 to collect primary data through a purposive sampling method, involving both government and private hospitals in Palestine. The participants included 512 nurses and 241 physicians from various hospital units. Results: The findings indicate varying levels of knowledge among participants, with a significant portion (67%) reporting no prior experience with real disaster situations. Additionally, 63% lacked prior disaster response experience. Regarding training courses, 17.8% of nurses and physicians prioritized emergency preparedness, trauma mass casualty response, and triage disaster management systems. Despite some understanding of disaster management, the study emphasizes the importance of hospital managers implementing national standards, engaging healthcare professionals in continuous education, and addressing gaps in perceived competence. Conclusion: While participants demonstrated some knowledge of disaster management, the study suggests the importance of hospital managers adopting national standards, engaging healthcare professionals in continuous learning activities, and addressing perceived competence gaps. Background: The main purposes of the nursing profession are to protect and improve health and to prevent and heal diseases. It is crucial to investigate the factors that can influence nurses' ability to enhance their performance in their professional lives and conduct the nursing care process more qualitatively and effectively. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between emotional intelligence and compassionate communication in nurses. Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 140 nurses working in various units of the public hospital in Kilis, Turkey. Data were collected through a demographic information form, Emotional Intelligence Scale, and Compassionate Communication Scale. Results: It was determined that nurses' emotional intelligence and compassionate communication were above average. A significant association was found between nurses' emotional intelligence and compassionate communication (F = 16.08, P <.001) and emotional intelligence explains 10% of the variance in compassionate communication (R = 0.323, R 2 = 0.104). Conclusions: Emotional intelligence and compassionate communication should be taken into consideration so that nurses can recognize and understand patients' emotions, alleviate their hurt, and deliver delicate, kind, and compassionate care. Background: Workplace violence persists in health care with nurses reporting physical and verbal abuse from aggressive patients causing emotional stress and lost workdays. The Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression–Inpatient Version (DASA-IV) was developed to measure risk for aggression in patients with behavioral health conditions in psychiatric and emergency department settings. The DASA-IV has not been validated with adult patients admitted to medical-surgical units. Objective: To determine whether DASA-IV scores are predictive of aggressive events in adults hospitalized on medical-surgical units. Methods: This multisite study used a case-control design. DASA-IV scores and acts of aggression were extracted from the medical record retrospectively to validate the appraisal's predictability. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and area under the curve (AUC) were used to correlate DASA-IV scores with aggressive events. Results: DASA-IV assessments (N=156 999; mean [SD] 10.1 [10.7]/patient; range 1-220) were collected from 13 611 patients. Patients were primarily White (86.1%) and female (51.7%). Aggression (n = 509 patients; 3.7%) was significantly associated with older age, male sex, smoking, illicit drug use, and high DASA-IV scores. AUC of the ROC analysis for the DASA-IV showed a 97% probability (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.964-0.977) that an aggressive patient would have a higher score on the DASA-IV than a nonaggressive patient. Binary logistic regression predicted that for every point increase in the DASA-IV, there was a 3.51 (95% CI 3.38-3.63) times increased risk for aggression (B = 1.255, SE = 0.18, Wald = 4766.6, P <.001). Conclusions: This study is the first to validate use of the DASA-IV in medical-surgical populations, demonstrating predictive ability for aggressive incidents. Simple Summary: This pilot study aims to identify the physical, mental, social, psychological, and health needs encountered by cancer survivors in order to propose and facilitate appropriate and tailored responses. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first multidimensional studies investigating this topic in Italy. Data show that the quality of life of cancer survivors is affected by cancer and its treatment, reporting more frailties than the general population, especially those over 65 years old. These findings could help develop multidisciplinary planning of survivorship care for the transition of patients from oncological management to primary healthcare. Background: Understanding the specific needs of cancer survivors is essential for healthcare policy. In Italy, dedicated studies are lacking, so we aimed to investigate the physical, mental, social, and health difficulties encountered by these patients. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on breast or colorectal cancer survivors (people 5+ years free from it and its treatments) using an ad hoc survey including validated questionnaires (Grauer–Palombi, SF-36, PREDIMED). Participants were recruited within the Oncology Unit of the "Policlinico Tor Vergata", Italy. Results: A total of 62 patients (80.6% females; years range: 37–87) agreed to be interviewed. A profile of cancer survivors was drafted: an overaged person with multiple co-morbidities, not well-nourished, adhering to the Mediterranean diet, reporting critical conditions as for physical and functional status. The mean number of co-morbidities was 3.6 ± 2.4 SD, with a statistically significant difference between age groups (under and over 65). Compared to the general population, the sample showed more frailties, especially when >65. The risk of having multimorbidity (four or more co-morbidities) significantly increased in those over 65 (OR: 4.72; CI: 1.43–15.59). Conclusion: There is an urgent need for survivorship care planning for the patient-centered continuum of care. The aging population, often burdened with multimorbidity and polypharmacy complexities, requires comprehensive care during healthcare transitions. These transitions contribute to increased prescriptions, exacerbating polypharmacy and frailty in older individuals. Medication reconciliation, a preventive strategy, optimizes medication lists through systematic analysis, particularly benefiting older patients grappling with polypharmacy. This practice holds substantial potential in enhancing patient safety during care transitions. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the discrepancies detected during the practice of medication reconciliation at the admission, discharge, or transfer of older individuals in a ward in Brazil. This is a single-cohort study of patients admitted to an older adult care ward in Brazil, monitored from September 2021 to April 2022. Older individuals hospitalized in the ward, exhibiting the characteristic clinical profile of multimorbidity and polypharmacy, were observed to identify discrepancies in the practice of medication reconciliation conducted as part of pharmaceutical care services. Medication reconciliation was carried out upon admission, discharge from the ward for older adult care, or transfer to other healthcare units. Sixty older individuals were monitored during the study period in the ward. The use of polypharmacy at home was evident in more than 70% of patients, and multimorbidity was present in over 90% of patients. On average, 8.6 discrepancies were identified per patient (± 4.7). Upon admission to the older adult care ward, 501 discrepancies were identified and assessed, decreasing to 200 at the time of hospital discharge or transfer to other units. In total, 48 medication errors were identified in the evaluated prescriptions and ongoing pharmacotherapy. The use of polypharmacy proved to be a contributing factor that increased the identification of discrepancies in medication reconciliation (p < 0.001). Analyzing medication reconciliation discrepancies uncovers intentional and unintentional aspects in prescriptions, with medication quantity, especially in polypharmacy, linked to potential harm. Background: Utilization of video calls on hospital wards to facilitate involvement of and communication with family members is still limited. A deeper understanding of the needs and expectations of family members regarding video calls on hospital wards is necessary, to identify potential barriers and facilitate video calls in practice. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the views, expectations and needs of a patient's family members regarding the use of video calls between family members, patients and healthcare professionals, during the patient's hospital admission. Methods: A qualitative study was carried out. Semi‐structured interviews with family members of patients admitted to two hospitals were conducted between February and May 2022. Family members of patients admitted to the surgical, internal medicine and gynaecological wards were recruited. Results: Twelve family members of patients participated. Family members stated that they perceive video calls as a supplemental option and prefer live visits during hospital admission. They expected video calls to initiate additional moments of contact with healthcare professionals, e.g. to join in medical rounds. When deploying video calls, family members mentioned that adequate instruction and technical support by nurses should be available. Conclusion: Family members considered video calls valuable when visiting is not possible or to participate in medical rounds or other contacts with healthcare professionals outside of visiting hours. Implications: Family members need to be supported in options and use of video calls on hospital wards. Additional knowledge about actual participation in care through video calls is needed as well as the effect on patient, family and healthcare professional outcomes. Background: Psychological distress can cause burnout, which affects mental and physical well‐being. It is important to identify factors associated with psychological distress and physical discomfort and how nurses deal with these problems. Aim: The aim was to investigate distress, burnout and coping among community nurses (CN) and hospital nurses (HN). Approach and Methods: In this cross‐sectional study, 409 nurses completed three questionnaires: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) and Ways of Coping (WOC). Findings: Participants younger than 40 demonstrated significantly more distress and burnout than those older than 40 years. Participants who had moderate and high distress on the PSS were significantly more at risk for experiencing personal, work‐related and patient‐related burnout. A significant positive correlation was found between distress and behavioural escape‐avoidance, cognitive escape‐avoidance and distancing. Significant positive correlations were also seen between all the subscales of the CBI and behavioural escape‐avoidance, cognitive escape‐avoidance and distancing. Positive significant correlation was also obtained between staff resources and distress and personal‐related and work‐related burnout. Negative correlation was demonstrated between staff resources and patient‐related burnout. Participants with longer work experience were less likely to report moderate or high distress, and those who scored higher on personal burnout and behavioural escape‐avoidance were more likely to have moderate or high distress. Conclusion: The results of this study call for increased attention to the younger generation in the nursing profession. The results also validate the need to investigate further the correlation between distress, burnout and coping and how these issues might influence each other among nurses working in the community and hospitals. Findings should be taken with precaution, they do not describe in detail what underlying factors contribute to distress and discomfort found in this study, they do, however, indicate certain coping strategies nurses use to deal with distress and burnout. Aims and Objectives: To (i) determine the prevalence of delirium and identify delirium subtypes in surgical and non‐surgical patients aged ≥65 years, (ii) determine whether certain precipitating factors affect the prevalence of delirium and (iii) review patients' medical records for description of delirium symptoms and the presence of International Classification of Diseases (ICD‐10) coding for delirium in discharge summaries. Methodological Design and Justifications: Despite being a robust predictor of morbidity and mortality in older adults, delirium might be inadequately recognised and under‐reported in patients' medical records and discharge summaries. A point prevalence study (24‐h) of patients ≥65 years from surgical and non‐surgical wards was therefore conducted in a tertiary university hospital. Ethical Issues and Approval: The study was approved by the Data Protection Officer at the university hospital (2018/3454). Research Methods, Instruments and/or Interventions: Patients were assessed for delirium with 4AT and delirium subtypes with the Delirium Motor Subtype Scale. Information about room transfers, need and use of sensory aids and medical equipment was collected onsite. Patients' medical records were reviewed for description of delirium symptoms and of ICD‐10 codes. Results: Overall, 123 patients were screened (52% female). Delirium was identified in 27% of them. Prevalence was associated with advanced age (≥85 years). The uncharacterised delirium subtype was most common (36%), followed by hypoactive (30%), hyperactive (24%) and mixed (9%). There were significant associations between positive screening tests and the need and use of sensory aids. Delirium symptoms were described in 58% of the patients who tested positive for delirium and the ICD‐10 code for delirium was registered in 12% of these patients' discharge summaries. Conclusions: The high prevalence of delirium and limited use of discharge codes highlight the need to improve the identification of delirium in hospital settings and at discharge. BACKGROUND: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is frequent in patients with spinal-cord injury (SCI). However, SDB is frequently underdiagnosed due to limited access to diagnostic testing and knowledge about the condition. Moreover, SDB heterogeneity (sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea or central sleep apnea and nocturnal alveolar hypoventilation) implies complex evaluation of both nocturnal respiratory effort and hypercapnia. The aim of this study was to compare different screening strategies for an SDB diagnosis in patients with SCI. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of data from subjects with SCI followed up in a tertiary-care rehabilitation center with a specialized sleep unit. Subjective (questionnaires) and objective data (polysomnography [PSG]), ... extracted from the PSG, morning blood gases, and nocturnal transcutaneous CO2 (...) were collected and analyzed. A retrospective comparison of different strategies for SDB screening was carried out. Each strategy was compared (alone and in combination) with the standard of care for sleep apnea (PSG) and nocturnal alveolar hypoventilation (...) diagnosis. The performance of the usual cutoff and visual analysis was studied. RESULTS: Among 190 subjects with SCI who underwent a full night's PSG, data were available for 104 questionnaires and 162 with oximetry. Questionnaires (the modified Screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Tetraplegia and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale) had poor performance for identifying sleep apnea and did not identify nocturnal alveolar hypoventilation. ... Background: Considering that few studies have investigated the differences in clinical, laboratory, and imaging symptoms of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during different peaks of the disease in Iran, the present study compares the patients who were admitted to the COVID-19 departments of Imam Reza Hospital during the first, second, and third peaks of the disease. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data were collected by reviewing the files of patients with a definite diagnosis of COVID- 19 based on the RT-PCR test in Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad. The patients were divided into three groups based on the time of admission: The first peak from March 2020 to June 2020, the second peak from July to September 2020, and the third peak from October to December 2020. The variables evaluated in this study included demographic information, clinical signs and symptoms, and laboratory and radiological findings. Descriptive qualitative data were reported using frequency tables, while quantitative descriptive data were reported using measures of central tendency and dispersion. A comparison of qualitative data among the three peaks was conducted using the chi-square test, while for quantitative data, the ANOVA test was used followed by appropriate post-hoc tests. Results: A total of 561 patients with an average age of 58.90 ± 16.80 years were included in the study, of which 336 (59.9%) were male. Regarding underlying diseases, significant differences were found in age (P < 0.001), smoking (P < 0.001), diabetes (P = 0.003), high blood pressure (P < 0.001), asthma (P = 0.025), and ischemic heart disease (P < 0.001). For vital signs, significant differences were observed in heart rate (P < 0.001), respiration rate (P < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (P = 0.010), and SPO2 (P < 0.001). In clinical characteristics, significant differences were found in fever (P < 0.001), nausea (P = 0.011), vomiting (P = 0.031), headache (P < 0.001), weakness (P < 0.001), and sore throat (P < 0.001). In laboratory characteristics, significant differences were observed in white blood cell (WBC) count (P = 0.024), neutrophil percentage (P < 0.001), lymphocyte percentage (P < 0.001), and C-reactive protein (CRP) (P = 0.001). The CT score values of the patients were significantly different between the three peaks. Patient mortality was significantly different across the three peaks. Less than 15% of hospitalized patients died in the first peak, while over 24% died in the second peak and nearly 40% of inpatients died in the third peak. In our study, the first and third surges and the second and third surges had different mortalities. Conclusions: The third and first peaks had the highest and lowest mortality rates, respectively. Underlying diseases and unstable vital signs were more common in the second and third peaks. Patients in the second peak had significantly higher CT scores compared to the other peaks. Background: Anaemia is a global public health issue that impacts individuals of all ages in both developed and developing countries. Anaemia is common in patients with diabetes mellitus; however, it is often undiagnosed and untreated. The main aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and associated factors of anaemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitting to a medical unit at National Hospital Kandy. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients admitted to a medical ward at National Hospital Kandy (NHK). They were assessed with a pre-tested, interviewer-administered, structured questionnaire using consecutive sampling method. The data was entered and analyzed using SPSS 26. Results: Total 252 patients with diabetes were included. The prevalence of anaemia in patients with T2DM was 31.3%. The corresponding values for males and females were 34.2% and 65.8% respectively. Independent predictors for anaemia among diabetic patients were older age, female gender, poor glycemic control, diabetes duration > 5 years, diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, stage ≥ 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD), ischaemic heart disease (IHD), peripheral vascular disease (PVD), diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and usage of aspirin. These were significantly associated with the prevalence anemia among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that female gender, age ≥ 65 years, diabetic duration > 5 years, poor glycaemic control, stage ≥ 3 CKD, diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy were associated with greater odds for the presence of anaemia. Conclusion: We found that 31.3% T2DM patients in a medical ward at NHK had previously undiagnosed anaemia. Anaemia screening during diabetes diagnosis, maintaining glycaemic control and raising patient awareness can reduce anaemia prevalence, improve patient quality of life and potentially reduce microvascular complications. Background: Palliative care evolution focuses on education and medication accessibility. As little as 12% of palliative care needs are met. Assessment of the domains of Palliative care and patients' and families' experience are essential in life-limiting conditions. The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), have the National Cancer Centre without offering palliative care services. Aim: The aim was to examine pattern of admissions and needs assessment for palliative services among patients admitted into LUTH wards. Materials and method: Responses were entered into a data sheet inputted into Epi info version 7.2. Descriptive characteristics of the participants were presented as frequencies and percentages for age, sex, pattern of disease, domains of Palliative care, Advance care Plan, Preparation for home care, death and Education about the illness and category of medical conditions (palliative and non-palliative conditions). Together for Short Lives (TfSL) tool was used to categorize respondents' conditions into Palliative and Non-palliative conditions. Chi-square test was used to determine association between independent variables (pattern of diagnoses, stage of disease, advanced care plan, preparation for home care/ death and education on illness) and dependent variables (category of medical condition). Chi-square test was also used to explore the association between specialty of the managing doctor (independent variable) and Advance care plan (dependent variable). The level of statistical significance was P-value < 0.05. Results: 80.6% of the respondents had palliative care conditions, 83.7% had family members as their caregiver while 13.2% of the participants had no caregiver and 65.9% had no advance care plan. There was no preparation for home care or death in 72.1%, 70.5% had education about their illness, and 68.2% were in the advanced stage of their disease. Participants attending the surgery non-trauma unit (51.6%) were more likely to have advance care plans. Adults were more likely to have palliative care conditions (79.8%) compared to children (20.2%), and was statistically significant. Conclusion: Majority of the participants need palliative care services but are unavailable and unmet and the most predominant condition was cancer. Majority had no advance care plan or preparation for home care or death despite having advanced stage of the disease. Background. In 2016, the South Korean Integrated Nursing‐Care Service, covered by national insurance, was initiated, with a particular focus on cancer‐oriented units. Integrated Nursing‐Care Service Wards denote facilities wherein nursing professionals deliver holistic care, in the absence of paid informal caregivers (hereafter will be called caregiver). Aim. This study, framed within Demerouti's Job Demands‐Job Resources Model, aimed to analyze variables influencing nurses' work engagement in Integrated Nursing‐Care Service wards. Methods. From April to June 2022, 375 participants working at three certified tertiary hospitals operating Integrated Nursing‐Care Service wards completed the survey. Of the 400 distributed questionnaires, 375 were used for analysis, resulting in a response rate of 93.75%. The remaining 25 questionnaires were excluded due to insufficient responses. Job demands, job resources, and personal resources were assigned as exogenous variables that predicted burnout and work engagement of nurses, while burnout and work engagement were assigned as endogenous variables. In this model, 32 hypotheses were established, and to verify the hypotheses, the direct effect of each exogenous variable on work engagement and the indirect effect through burnout as a medium were analyzed. Results. Burnout partially mediated the impact of exogenous variables on work engagement. The subfactors revealed partial mediation between emotional labor and work engagement, full mediation for satisfaction with the recognition from patients and caregivers, and partial mediation for resilience. Conclusion. Emotional labor had the highest impact on nurses' burnout in Integrated Nursing‐Care Service wards, followed by resilience and satisfaction with the recognition from patients and caregivers. Nurses' burnout, work environment, emotional labor, work overload, and resilience significantly influenced their work engagement. Implications for Nursing Management. The results of this study are useful as basic data for research on intervention programs that reduce burnout and increase nurses' work engagement in Integrated Nursing‐Care Service wards. Aims: Glioma patients are at high risk for postoperative delirium (POD), yet studies focusing on this population in general neurosurgical ward settings are limited. This paper investigates the incidence of POD and related risk factors in glioma patients hospitalized in general wards. Design: Prospective observational study. Methods: This prospective study included 133 adult glioma patients hospitalized in the general neurosurgery ward. In addition to collecting routine perioperative general clinical data, patients' psychological status was assessed preoperatively using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). POD was assessed within 3 days postoperatively using the Confusion of Consciousness Assessment method, twice daily. The incidence of POD was calculated, and risk factors were identified using logistic regression analysis. Results: The incidence of POD in glioma patients admitted to the general ward was 31.6% (40/133). Multivariate regression revealed advanced age (age > 50 years), frontal lobe tumour, presence of preoperative anxiety or depression, retention of a luminal drain, postoperative pain, indwelling catheter these six factors were independent risk factors for the development of delirium in patients after surgery. Conclusion: In general ward settings, supratentorial glioma patients exhibit a high risk of POD. Critical risk factors include preoperative psychological conditions, as well as postoperative pain, drainage and catheterization. Rigorous preoperative evaluations, effective pain management strategies and the integration of humanistic care principles are essential in mitigating the risk of POD for glioma patients. Relevance to Clinical Practice: In general ward settings, this study reveals the high occurrence of POD in glioma patients and identifies preoperative psychological states, age, tumour location and several postoperative factors as significant risk factors for POD, which provides a framework for targeted interventions. By integrating these insights into clinical practice, healthcare teams can better identify glioma patients at risk for POD and implement preventive measures, thereby enhancing recovery and overall care quality for glioma patients in general neurosurgical wards. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Dyspnea, affecting up to 60% of cancer patients, exacerbates physical and psychological distress, reducing quality of life. This study aims to explore the relationship between dyspnea and factors such as age, sex, clinical diagnosis, and treatment lines in cancer patients, with the goal of improving understanding and management of this debilitating symptom to enhance patient care and quality of life. Methods: This study employed an observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive approach to investigate patients with oncological disease at the University Hospital of Salamanca between March 2021 and April 2024. A convenience sample was selected, including patients over 18 years old with a pathological diagnosis of cancer, experiencing any degree of dyspnea, and who consented to participate by signing the informed consent. Exclusion criteria included lack of consent and clinical conditions that prevented an interview. The studied variables encompass sociodemographic (age, gender, diagnosis, tumor stage, number of treatment lines) and clinical aspects (daily activities, degree of dyspnea, functional capacity, physical performance), evaluated using the Barthel Index, the mMRC Dyspnea Scale, the ECOG Scale, and the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Data were collected through semistructured interviews and medical records, and analyzed using specialized software. This research has ethical approval CEiM Code 2023 12 1472, Reference 2024/01. Results: The mean age was 66.82 years. Lung cancer was predominant (60.2%), with most patients in stage 3 (65.7%) and receiving three treatment lines (68.7%). Higher age, advanced disease stage, and more treatment lines correlated with lower Barthel and SPPB scores, and higher ECOG and mMRC scores, indicating worse functionality, physical performance, and greater dyspnea. No significant correlations were found between gender or pathological diagnosis and the studied variables. Conclusions: Advanced age, higher disease stage, and more treatment lines are associated with decreased functionality, poorer physical performance, and increased dyspnea in cancer patients. Gender and specific cancer diagnosis do not significantly affect these relationships. Addressing dyspnea is crucial to improving the quality of life and physical performance in this population. Objective: To implement and evaluate the impact of a collaborative pharmacist‐medical officer model of planning discharge prescriptions, Partnered Pharmacist Discharge Prescription Planning (PPDPP) on the safe use of medicines on discharge in an ED short stay unit (SSU). Methods: A prospective pre‐ and post‐intervention study measured the proportion of medication errors on discharge prescriptions from the SSU using the Five Rights (5Rs) method. Pharmacists assessed discharge prescriptions generated by the medical officers (MO) during the pre‐intervention phase (standard practice). During the PPDPP phase, pharmacists planned electronic prescriptions in consultation with MO and completed prescriptions were independently assessed by another pharmacist. Results: There were 163 and 147 prescriptions collected during the pre‐ and post‐intervention phases, respectively. There was a significant difference in the proportion of discharge prescriptions that met all 5Rs between the standard practice (47.2%) and PPDPP phase (91.8%) (P < 0.001). There was no statistical difference seen in the mean time taken from discharge decision to prescriptions given to patients or patients leaving the SSU between the two phases. There was a non‐statically significant trend towards a decrease in time taken for patients to obtain prescriptions by 11% (P = 0.16) and for actual departure time by 6% (P = 0.46). Additionally, the proportion of opioids prescribed as one of the high‐risk medication classes reduced from 23.8% to 16.2% (P = 0.023) with the PPDPP model. Background: Despite the global increase in the adoption of robotic natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (R-NOSES), its advantages over robotic transabdominal specimen extraction surgery (R-TSES) for treating early-stage rectal cancer remain debated. There is scant nationwide, multicenter studies comparing the surgical quality and short-term outcomes between R-NOSES and R-TSES for this condition. Objective: This retrospective cohort study was conducted nationally across multiple centers to compare the surgical quality and short-term outcomes between R-NOSES and R-TSES in early-stage rectal cancer. Design: Multicenter retrospective cohort trial. Setting: Eight experienced surgeons from 8 high-volume Chinese colorectal cancer treatment centers. Patients: The study included 1086 patients who underwent R-NOSES or R-TSES from October 2015 to November 2023 at the 8 centers. Inclusion criteria were: (1) histologically confirmed rectal adenocarcinoma; (2) robotic total mesorectal excision; (3) postoperative pathological staging of TisN0M0 or T1-2N0M0; (4) availability of complete surgical and postoperative follow-up data. Patients were matched 1:1 in the R-NOSES and R-TSES groups using the propensity score matching (PSM) technique. Results: After PSM, 318 matched pairs with well-balanced patient characteristics were identified. The operation time for the R-NOSES group was significantly longer than that for the R-TSES group [140 min (125–170 min) vs. 140 min (120–160 min), P = 0.032]. Conversely, the times to first flatus and initial oral intake in the R-NOSES group were significantly shorter than those in the R-TSES group [48 h (41–56 h) vs. 48 h (44–62 h), P = 0.049 and 77 h (72–94 h) vs. 82 h (72–96 h), P = 0.008], respectively. Additionally, the length of postoperative hospital stay was shorter in the R-NOSES group compared with the R-TSES group [7 day (7–9 day) vs. 8 day (7–9 day), P = 0.005]. The overall postoperative complication rates were similar between the groups (10.7% in the R-NOSES group vs. 11.9% in the R-TSES group, P = 0.617). However, the R-NOSES group had a lower incidence of wound complications compared to the R-TSES group (0.0% vs. 2.2%, P = 0.015). Regarding surgical stress response, the R-NOSES group showed superior outcomes. Additionally, patients in the R-NOSES group required fewer additional analgesics on postoperative days 1, 3, and 5 and reported lower pain scores compared to the R-TSES group. The body image scale (BIS) and cosmetic scale (CS) scores were also significantly higher in the R-NOSES group. Furthermore, the R-NOSES group demonstrated significantly better outcomes in functional dimensions such as physical, role, emotional, social, and cognitive functioning, and in symptoms like fatigue and pain, when compared to the R-TSES group. Limitations: It is imperative to ensure the safe and standardized implementation of R-NOSES through the establishment of a uniform training protocol. The relationship between emotion regulation (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) and HRQoL in cancer patients is currently gaining momentum, yet, no research to date has investigated the nature of this relationship. The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating role of social support in the relationship between ER and HRQoL in Nigerian cancer patients. Participants included 361 cancer patients (female = 56.79%, mean age = 41.61, SD 15.47) conveniently drawn from the oncology unit of the University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. They completed the measures of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), emotion regulation and Perceived Social Support. The moderated regression analysis via PROCESS procedures for SPSS Version 3 was used for data analysis. The results showed that cognitive reappraisal significantly predicted HRQoL (β = 2.12, t = 4.39, p =.000). Social support also significantly predicted HRQoL (β =.73, t = 4.57, p =.000). Most importantly, social support moderated the relationship between cognitive reappraisal and HRQoL (β = −.034, t= −4.23, p =.000), but not between expressive suppression and HRQoL (β = −.015, t= −1.61, p =.10). The moderation slope revealed that cognitive reappraisal significantly predicted HRQoL particularly at lower and moderate levels of social support. These findings reveal that the effect of emotion regulation on HRQoL depends much on an individual's level of perceived social support. It also means that social support boosted the positive impact of emotion regulation on HRQoL. The findings highlighted the importance of social-support and emotion regulation particularly, cognitive-reappraisal in improving health-related quality of life in cancer patients. BACKGROUND: Surface contamination with antineoplastic drugs (ADs) is persistent. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is recommended to reduce exposure to ADs. OBJECTIVES: This study explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nurses' PPE use and surface contamination with ADs. METHODS: Demographic characteristics, PPE use, and associated factors were assessed on two inpatient oncology units where etoposide and cyclophosphamide were administered before (N = 26) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (N = 31). FINDINGS: PPE use when handling contaminated excreta was significantly higher during the pandemic. Perceived risk of chemotherapy exposure was significantly associated with greater PPE use when handling AD-contaminated excreta, and conflict of interest was related to less PPE use during AD administration and handling of AD-contaminated excreta. Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a prediction model for pressure injury using a machine learning algorithm and to integrate it into clinical practice. Methods: This was a retrospective study of tertiary hospitals in Seoul, Korea. It analyzed patients in 12 departments where many pressure injuries occurred, including 8 general wards and 4 intensive care units from January 2018 to May 2022. In total, 182 variables were included in the model development. A pressure injury prediction model was developed using the gradient boosting algorithm, logistic regression, and decision tree methods, and it was compared to the Braden scale. Results: Among the 1,389,660 general ward cases, there were 451 cases of pressure injuries, and among 139,897 intensive care unit cases, there were 297 cases of pressure injuries. Among the tested prediction models, the gradient boosting algorithm showed the highest predictive performance. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the gradient boosting algorithm's pressure injury prediction model in the general ward and intensive care unit was 0.86 (95% confidence interval, 0.83~0.89) and 0.83 (95% confidence interval, 0.79~0.87), respectively. This model was integrated into the electronic health record system to show each patient's probability for pressure injury occurrence, and the risk factors calculated every hour. Conclusion: The prediction model developed using the gradient boosting algorithm exhibited higher performance than the Braden scale. A clinical decision support system that automatically assesses pressure injury risk allows nurses to focus on patients at high risk for pressure injuries without increasing their workload. Purpose: To identify the impact of psychosocial factors on quality of life (QoL) of older adults hospitalized and isolated after contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Method: Data were collected between April 30 and June 18, 2022, from 117 discharged older adults who were in isolation for COVID-19 treatment in a tertiary hospital in South Korea. Results: Of participants, 33.3% were at high risk for posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), and 21.4% of participants were identified as having severe depressive symptoms. Participants' QoL negatively correlated with PTSS, depressive symptoms, and fear of social stigma. Depressive symptoms were the primary psychosocial factor identified as significantly affecting QoL (β = −0.682, p < 0.001), and the explanatory power of the regression model was 41.2%. Conclusion: To enhance QoL of older adults who have experienced hospitalization and isolation due to COVID-19, identifying pertinent psychosocial factors, especially depressive symptoms, is necessary. Background: One of the main drawbacks of tunneled central venous catheters (CVCs) is catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs). Antibiotic lock therapy (ALT) can be combined with systemic antibiotics to achieve catheter salvage. Our objectives are to describe cases of CRBSI and our experience with ALT in a pediatric oncology–hematology ward. Methods: a retrospective descriptive study of pediatric CRBSI cases in a Spanish oncology–hematology unit from 2007 to 2017 was conducted. We collected demographic, clinical, and microbiological data from all patients. Results: fifty-eight CRBSIs were diagnosed in thirty-nine patients; 72.9% of these patients were male, with a median age of 42.1 months. The main underlying diseases were leukemia/lymphoma (51.7%) and solid tumors (32.7%). Thirty-five (60.3%) CRBSIs were caused by Gram-positive cocci, of which 70.6% were coagulase-negative Staphylococci, and sixteen (27.6%) were caused by Gram-negative bacilli. We treated 41/58 (71%) cases with ALT. A total of 12/17 (71%) CVCs that were not treated with adjunctive ALT were removed, compared with 13/41 (32%) that were treated with ALT (relative risk (RR), 0.449; confidence interval (CI), 95%: 0.259–0.778, p = 0.004). Major reasons to remove the CVC in the CRBSI-ALT group were local insertion/pocket site infection (23%), persistent symptoms (23%), and infectious' relapses (15%). As global populations age, a looming nursing shortage is anticipated to become a critical issue. Charge nurses have the responsibility of optimally allocating nursing resources to ensure the quality of patient care during a shift. Therefore, an accurate estimate of nursing demand is crucial. However, the ability to forecast future nursing demand remains underdeveloped, mainly because the nature of nursing demand is highly individualized and does not follow a definitive pattern. In practice, the nursing demand is often perceived as unpredictable, leading to an ad hoc approach to staffing. The primary objective of our study is to demonstrate that longitudinal data analysis can reveal strong statistical regularities in the temporal dynamics of nursing demand. This approach not only provides new possibilities for efficient resource allocation but also paves the way for data‐driven prediction of nursing demand. Our study uses Sankey diagrams to visualize the temporal dynamics of nursing demand within each ward for each fiscal year, representing these dynamics as an overlay of trajectories from multiple individual patients. Consequently, our study reveals ward‐specific statistical regularities in the temporal dynamics of nursing demand. In one ward, approximately 25% of patients experienced an increase in nursing demand from 1 to between 6 and 9 points from the second to the third day of hospitalization, while in another, only 0.1% showed such an increase. These findings suggest that patients admitted to the wards tend to exhibit a certain probabilistic change in nursing demand. This study can predict probabilistically the temporal variation of nursing demand among patients in the coming years by analyzing data on the temporal changes in nursing demand over the past years. Our findings are expected to significantly influence the forecasting of nursing demand and the estimation of nursing resources, leading to data‐driven and more efficient nursing management. Background: This study was conducted to estimate the additional objective and perceived workload of nurses resulting from the use of webcams. The successful implementation of webcam technology into routine care requires an analysis to prevent adverse events of increased nursing workload. Methods: The study took place on three neonatal wards in two University Hospitals in Germany. In the first Hospital, the study was conducted from February to July 2021; in the second one it was conducted between June and November 2021. Data were collected using a combined approach of a standardised diary questionnaire study and passive observations. The participants were accompanied in their daily work and their activities were recorded 65 nurses participated. Results: 2,031 h were observed in 1,630 observation blocks. In 14.74% of the observation blocks webcam activities were detected. The extent to which the nurses had webcam-related additional workloads was rated as no additional workload in 82.16% of the daily questionnaires (n = 1,026). Conclusion: The observed low workload due to the webcams is in line with the nurses' perception. The observational data revealed, on a number of different analysis levels, that a limited additional workload was generated. There was no decrease in activity performance observed and no clear indication for interruptions due to the webcam-related activities for the nurses. However, it is important to raise awareness about the individual workload levels for the successful implementation. Additional education programs can be provided for nurses. Aim: To explore barriers and facilitators that influence adherence to evidence‐based guidelines for peripheral intravenous catheter care in different hospital wards. Design: Sequential explanatory mixedmethod study design, with qualitative data used to elaborate on quantitative findings. Method: Data were collected between March 2021 and March 2022 using the previously validated Peripheral Intravenous Catheter mini questionnaire (PIVC‐miniQ) on each ward in a tertiary hospital in Norway. Survey completion was followed by individual interviews with nurses from selected wards. The Pillar Integration Process was used to integrate and analyse the quantitative and qualitative findings. Results: The PIVC‐miniQ screening assessed 566 peripheral intravenous catheters in 448 patients in 41 wards, and we found variation between wards in the quality of care. Based on the quantitative variation, we interviewed 24 nurses on wards with either excellent or not as good quality. The integration of the quantitative and qualitative findings in the study enabled an understanding of factors that influence nurses' adherence to the care of peripheral venous catheters. One main theme and four subthemes emerged. The main finding was that ward culture affects education practice, and this was evident from four subthemes: (1) Deviation from best practice, (2) Gaps in education and clinical training, (3) Quality variation between wards and (4) The importance of supportive leadership. Conclusion: This mixed method study is the first study to explore reasons for variability in peripheral intravenous catheter quality across hospital wards. We found that ward culture was central to catheter quality, with evidence of deviations from best practice correlating with observed catheter complications. Ward culture also impacted nursing education, with the main responsibility for learning peripheral intravenous catheter management left to students' clinical training placements. Addressing this educational gap and fostering supportive leadership, including champions, will likely improve peripheral intravenous catheter care and patient safety. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Nurses learn good peripheral intravenous catheter care in wards with supportive leaders and champions. This implies that the quality of nursing practice and patient outcomes are situational. Nurses need a strengthened emphasis on peripheral catheter quality in the undergraduate curriculum, and nurse leaders must emphasize the quality of catheter care in their wards. Impact: The study findings impact nurse leaders who must commit to quality and safety outcomes by appointing and supporting local ward champions for promoting peripheral intravenous catheter care. This also impacts nursing education providers, as the emphasis on catheter care must be strengthened in the undergraduate nursing curriculum and continually reinforced in the hospital environment, particularly when guidelines are updated. Purpose: To determine the trajectories of spiritual distress and religious involvement among cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted over 15 months with quarterly data collection, in a total of with five cut points. Data collection was applied a questionnaire that embraced sociodemographic characteristics, clinical profile, Spiritual Distress Scale, and Belief into Action Scale. Regarding, data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics, and the study was approved by the Ethics Committee. Findings: From the 322 cancer patients at the beginning, the attrition rate was 17.5% in the last time point. Most of participants were women (56.6%), with an average age of 60.3 years, and had a religious affiliation (93.7%). Statistically significant values were found of spiritual distress and religious involvement across the five cuts. At the end of 3 months after starting chemotherapy, the highest value of spiritual distress and the lowest value of religious involvement were reached. Conclusions: Cancer patients who are submitted to chemotherapy, after 3 months of treatment experience the peak of spiritual distress and the lowest value of religious involvement. This critical period for nurses' is required a massive approach regarding spiritual and religious needs. Implications for nursing practice: Therefore, knowing the trajectories of spiritual distress and religious involvement during a certain period allows for the anticipating of planning of nursing therapeutic interventions in order to promote spiritual health and spiritual well‐being outcomes in cancer patients. Using humor as a caregiving strategy can help professionals perceive daily and work-related events from a more optimistic and light-hearted perspective. The main objective of this study was to analyze humor styles among health care professionals. A cross-sectional and correlational design was employed. Data were collected using the Humor Styles Questionnaire, which measures four humor styles: affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive, and self-defeating humor. Health care professionals scored higher in positive humor than negative humor. Age exhibited a negative correlation with positive humor. Significant differences were observed between marital status and affiliative and self-enhancing humor, professional category and hospital unit with aggressive humor, shift work and self-enhancing humor, and type of contract and experience with affiliative humor. Health care professionals employ various humor styles based on their social and work contexts. Background: Collaboration between palliative care units (PCUs) and community palliative care (CPC) services is key to providing integrated care across inpatient and outpatient settings, in response to local and global challenges. Aim: To identify the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and local CPC service changes on admissions, discharges, and patient access to a metropolitan Australian specialist PCU. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of PCU admissions was performed across three six-month periods, in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Patients' demographics and primary diagnoses were assessed for association with CPC service involvement prior to their first PCU admission. Admission characteristics including referral location, indication for admission, length of stay, palliative care phase and place of death were compared between the three time periods. Results: There were 707 admissions during the studied time periods, corresponding to 589 unique patients, of whom 89% had a principle diagnosis of malignancy. Non-cancer and haematology patients were less likely to be linked with a CPC service prior to their first admission. Most admissions (51%) were arranged directly to the PCU from the community. Compared to earlier time periods, during the COVID-19 pandemic, patients had shorter admissions, were more likely to be discharged in the deteriorating or terminal phases, and had four times the odds of dying at home. Conclusion: COVID-19 had significant impacts on the characteristics of PCU admissions, which has ongoing implications for CPC services. Background: Rehabilitation after critical illness improves functional outcomes, but in some countries, specialised rehabilitation wards are closed during holidays. Objective: This study aimed to compare the length of hospital stay, discharge destination and survival in sepsis patients who were hospitalised during and outside holiday periods over 10 years. Method: In a registry-based cohort study, 1,552 consecutive patients who had their first-time admission due to sepsis between 2003 and 2013 were included. Length of hospital stay, discharge destination and survival in patients hospitalised during (n=481% and outside (n=1071% holiday periods were compared. Results: Patients hospitalised during holiday periods had a longer length of stay compared with patients hospitalised outside holiday periods (median 9 vs. 7 days, p<0.001, mean 14.5 vs. 11.2 days, 95% CI 1.675.0, p<0.001%. The difference was even larger in a subgroup of patients (n=332% who were admitted to an intensive care unit or a monitoring unit (median 13.5 vs. 9 days, p<0.001, mean 22.8 vs. 15.2 days, 95% CI 2.5712.8, p=0.004%. There were no differences in discharge destination or survival between the groups. Conclusion: We found that closing a rehabilitation ward during holidays prolongs the length of hospital stay in patients with sepsis. Low health literacy (LHL) significantly impacts patients' ability to participate actively in their healthcare. Registered nurses (RNs) play a crucial role in identifying LHL and addressing patient knowledge gaps and skill deficits. This correlational study examined the relationship between RNs' predictions of patients' health literacy levels (HLL) and the actual HLL of a predominately Hispanic patient population. In addition, personal factors (i.e., demographics) were analyzed to determine their influence on the nurse's predictions and patients' HLL. Data were collected from 84 participant patient–nurse couplets admitted to a medical-surgical unit in a rural setting located on the United States–Mexico border. In addition to demographic information collected via survey, RNs were asked to predict their patient's health literacy abilities while the Newest Vital Sign, a health literacy assessment tool, was deployed to determine the actual HLL of patients participating in the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t -tests, and chi-square tests while a Spearman correlational model was used to examine the relationship between predicted HLL and actual HLL. Finally, a logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between personal factors and HL data for RNs and patients. Analysis of the data revealed that RNs consistently overestimated patients' abilities, as evidenced by the disparity between patients' actual HLL (mean 1.71) and predicted HLL (mean 4.26) by RNs, with a moderately strong positive relationship (rs =.418). Notably, higher academic preparation and years of experience did not enhance the RNs' ability to identify LHL while the highest level of education completed was the only statistically significant predictor of adequate health literacy in the patient population sampled. These findings emphasize the need to prioritize effective health literacy education in RN academic preparation and clinical practice to support the detection of LHL when a standardized health literacy assessment tool is not utilized in the clinical setting. Aim: To gain staff feedback on the implementation and impact of a novel ambulatory monitoring system to support coronavirus patient management on an isolation ward. Design: Qualitative service evaluation. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 15 multidisciplinary isolation ward staff in the United Kingdom between July 2020 and May 2021. Interviews were audio‐recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Findings: Adopting Innovation to Assist Patient Safety was identified as the overriding theme. Three interlinked sub‐themes represent facets of how the system supported patient safety. Patient Selection was developed throughout the pandemic, as clinical staff became more confident in choosing which patients would benefit most. Trust In the System described how nurses coped with discrepancies between the ambulatory system and ward observation machines. Finally, Resource Management examined how, once trust was built, staff perceived the ambulatory system assisted with caseload management. This supported efficient personal protective equipment resource use by reducing the number of isolation room entries. Despite these reported benefits, face‐to‐face contact was still highly valued, despite the risk of coronavirus exposure. Conclusion: Hospital wards should consider using ambulatory monitoring systems to support caseload management and patient safety. Patients in isolation rooms or at high risk of deterioration may particularly benefit from this additional monitoring. However, these systems should be seen as an adjunct to nursing care, not a replacement. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Nurses valued ambulatory monitoring as a means of ensuring the safety of patients at risk of deterioration and prioritizing their workload. Safewards reduces conflict and containment on adult inpatient wards but there is limited research exploring the model in Children and Young People (CYP) mental health services. We investigated whether Safewards can be successfully implemented on twenty CYP wards across England. A process and outcomes evaluation was employed, utilizing the Integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Sciences (i-PARiHS) framework. Existing knowledge and use of Safewards was recorded via a self-report benchmarking exercise, verified during visits. Implementation of the 10 Safewards components on each ward was recorded using the Safewards Organizational Fidelity measure. Data from 11 surveys and 17 interviews with ward staff and four interviews with project workers were subject to thematic analysis and mapped against the four i-PARiHS constructs. Twelve of the 20 wards implemented at least half of the Safewards interventions in 12 months, with two wards delivering all 10 interventions. Facilitators and barriers are described. Results demonstrated Safewards is acceptable to a range of CYP services. Whilst implementation was hindered by difficulties outlined, wards with capacity were able and willing to implement the interventions. Background: Falls are themost frequent accident experienced by inpatients in hospitals. As falls affect patient outcomes, high fall risk factors should be studied to prevent falls and improve patient safety. However, the relationship between hospital unit characteristics and fall risk has never been assessed. Purpose: This studywas designed to identify the unit characteristics significantly related to fall risk. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on the medical records of patients hospitalized in a Japanese academic hospital between 2018 and 2019. This study quantified unit activities and utilizedDiagnosis Procedure Combination data to examine unit characteristics related to falls based on unit day. Results: Data on 16,307 patients were included in the analysis, and 355 unit days were certified as fall events. Based on patient condition and medical treatment, the results identified antineoplastic injections, radiation therapy, aseptic treatment room, and functional status of partly assisted transfers,meals, and oral care as unit characteristics associated with increased fall events. Decreased nursing time per patient at night (odds ratio [OR] = 0.75, p = .04) and higher numbers of partially assisted transfer patients were also identified as unit characteristics associated with higher fall incidence rates (OR = 5.56, p = .01). Conclusions: The results of this study are expected to assist nurses to predict falls based on unit characteristics; reducing nursing time in the units was found to be a factor associated with higher fall risk. Background: Diagnosing cancer and undergoing therapeutic measures are accompanied by an intense state of death anxiety. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate death anxiety and its relationship to demographic data for cancer patients at Tishreen University Hospital in Latakia. Methods: The quantitative approach was used in the current study. A descriptive, correlational design was utilized in the current study. The study used a convenience sampling method. The total number of the participants was 100 cancer patients. The patients were selected from Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia/Syria. Death-anxiety scale was used as a tool for data collection. Results: The results showed a moderate level of death anxiety among participants, and there was a statistically significant relationship between death anxiety and gender. Conclusion: Having cancer affects the level of death anxiety among patients, which appears to be higher among females than among males. Implications for Nursing: Studying the relationships between sociodemographic characteristics and the level of death anxiety in cancer patients will help individualize education about psychological problems associated with cancer. Aim: Stress negatively affects students' health, self-esteem, and clinical performance. Although stress has been analyzed on a long-term basis and many clinical stressors are known, some of the factors potentially triggering stress have not been adequately studied, and the results are not consistent. Our research focused on an assessment of the stress intensity that nursing and midwifery students experience and the impact of ward type, difficulty in providing nursing care, and previous experience on perceptions of stress. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The study sample (n = 258) consisted of 65.5% nursing and 34.5% midwifery students who had completed their clinical training in basal pediatric (36.5%), surgical (27.5%), and medical (36.0%) wards. We analyzed stress intensity (0-10), perception of the difficulty in providing nursing care from the student's perspective (0-10), and their previous experience. Results: Across the entire group of students, the stress intensity was 3.84 (SD = 2.71). Students providing care in pediatric wards (M = 4.72) experienced the highest stress intensity, especially when compared to students in medical wards (M = 2.69), (p < 0.001). The provision of care is most demanding in pediatric wards (M = 4.91) compared to surgical (M = 2.97) and medical wards (M = 3.08), (p < 0.001). Difficulty in providing care is significantly associated with stress intensity (r = 0.548). Previous clinical experience reduces the perception of stress. However, we found a significant decrease only in surgical and medical wards. Conclusion: To reduce the perception of stress in pediatric wards, attention needs to be paid to the quality of pre-clinical training focused on pediatric patient care. Sleep problems are common in children with cerebral palsy (CWCP). However, the effect of sleep problems in CWCP on caregivers has not been well studied. We aimed to describe the sleep problems in CWCP and their caregivers, and explore the effect of the children's sleep on the caregivers' sleep. This cross-sectional, mixed-methods research was conducted at a pediatric neurology clinic in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used for assessing sleep problems of the children and their caregivers, respectively. We held three focused group discussions (FGDs) involving 18 caregivers using a pretested FGD guide. We analyzed the quantitative data using Stata-15 software, while qualitative data were transcribed and managed using ATLAS.ti Software. We studied 71 CWCP–caregiver dyads and 69 age- and sex-matched controls. There was a male preponderance for CWCP (M:F = 1.09:1) and female preponderance for caregivers (89.5%). Sleep disturbances (SDSC > 40) occurred in 34% of CP children and poor sleep quality was seen in 39% of caregivers. When compared with age- and sex-matched typically developing peers, there was a statistically significant higher sleep disturbance in CWCP (p = 0.009). Sleep difficulties in the CWCP comprise sleep–wake transition disorders (45.0%), difficulty initiating sleep (43.3%), and sleep breathing disorders (37.5%). Caregivers experienced short sleep duration. One mother said: "It affects my sleep, health, and work. It affects everything about me." Patient safety culture is relevant both in the delivery of care and in the training of nursing staff, its purpose being to prevent and reduce risks associated with health care. This research aims to evaluate patient safety culture from the perspective of the nursing teams in a highly complex public hospital in the city of Valparaíso, Chile. A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach applying descriptive, bivariate, and inferential statistical analysis was conducted on 259 nurses and nursing assistants from 13 adult medical–surgical units of the Carlos Van Buren hospital. The participants were obtained through a non-probabilistic convenience sample, answering the hospital survey on Patient Safety Culture version 2.0 (HSOPS 2.0), adapted to the Chilean population. The best-evaluated dimension was communication and receptivity; the worst was the support administrators provide for patient safety. This study identified the weaknesses and strengths of the hospital, the most worrying weakness being the shortage of human capital, material, and financial resources necessary to improve patient safety. (1) Background: Job satisfaction and professional burnout directly impact human life, depending on various professional, non-professional, and private determinants. Nurses, in particular, are highly susceptible to experiencing professional burnout, which, when combined with job satisfaction, significantly affects the quality of their services. This study aimed to assess the level of job satisfaction and job burnout among nurses working in urology departments, as well as the impact of sociodemographic factors. (2) Methods: The study involved 130 nurses working in urology departments in Poland. Researchers conducted an anonymous questionnaire comprising a sociodemographic section and two standardized questionnaires: the Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ) and the Scale of Job Satisfaction (SSP). (3) Results: The study group demonstrated an average level of job satisfaction (17.23 points) and an average level of professional burnout, indicating potential symptoms of professional burnout such as psychophysical exhaustion (22.29 points), lack of commitment to patient relationships (20.02 points), feelings of professional ineffectiveness (17.37 points), and disappointment (19.66 points). (4) Conclusions: The levels of job satisfaction and professional burnout among nurses in urology departments are comparable to those in other departments and countries. (1) Background: Studies have shown that clinical experience has an impact on how students perceive geriatric care. The vulnerability of older people particularly allows students to reflect on and evaluate their learning. In this context, communication between tutors and students is important to guiding a contextualized view of the complexity of clinical situations. The principal objective was to explore the feelings, perceptions, and experiences of nursing students in geriatric care units during their practices. (2) Methods: This is a qualitative study using content analysis where the data collected were analyzed deductively. An intentional sample of 81 nursing degree students enrolled in the subject of clinical practices. During these sessions, a dynamic discussion forum was incorporated. (3) Results: There were 6 forums with a total of 591 participants, with an average of 98.5 per forum. Four categories emerged: humanization, geriatric nurse, aging, and learning. (4) Conclusions: A change of management oriented to the person-centered model would improve the quality in the residences and as well as in the expectations of the students towards geriatric nursing. Background: Palliative care, which aims to alleviate physical and emotional distress from cancer, is underutilized in many African healthcare systems. Therefore, there is a lack of data on the need and utilization of palliative care services among women with breast cancer in Ethiopia. Objectives: The goal of this study was to identify the level of need and utilization of palliative care services and identify associated factors among women in an oncology department of Hawassa comprehensive and specialized hospitals. Design: Hospital-based cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 121 women age ⩾18 years old with breast cancer participated from 1 August to 30 October 2021. A hospital-based consecutive sampling technique was used. Data regarding the need and utilization of palliative care services were collected via questionnaire and interview, entered using EpiData 4.6.0.6, and analyzed by SPSS version 25. Variables with p < 0.25 were considered for multivariate analysis, and those with p < 0.05 indicate an association with palliative care utilization. Result: Seventy-two (59.5%) had worse utilization of palliative care services, with higher odds in rural areas (adjusted odds ratio = 11.82). Conclusion: The study findings indicated that more than half of the study participants had worse utilization of palliative care services, with rural living being a contributing factor. Background: Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) are recommended for use in clinical oncology. However, they are not routinely used in professional palliative care practices in Japan. The reasons include both patient and healthcare provider factors and the implementation of PROs. This study aimed to develop and validate clinical implementation methods for PROs in Japanese palliative care units. Methods: The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was conducted with four palliative care units in Japan. The study was conducted in six steps: unit assessment, development and implementation of a PRO implementation plan, PRO post-implementation survey and analysis of its utilization, a review of the PRO implementation process, creation of a PRO implementation method in a palliative care unit, and use and verification of the implementation method. Steps 1–5 were the development phase, and step 6 was the verification phase. Results: Interviews were conducted with healthcare providers prior to PRO implementation. Intervention characteristics, patient needs in the palliative care unit, and factors related to the organization were identified as barriers. The implementation plan was developed, and the core members were selected. The implementation procedures were created in the above mentioned steps. PROs were used in the palliative care units. The same was true in the validation phase. Conclusions: This study guided PROs in specialized palliative care unit in a clinical setting. The method was developed and validated for the implementation of PROs in the palliative care unit. In the PRO implementation process, it was important to assess the unit, address the barriers to implementation, and reduce the burden on healthcare providers. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between various factors and self-perceived transformational leadership among a sample of Filipino nurse managers (NMs). BACKGROUND: Transformational leadership plays a crucial role in promoting positive outcomes in healthcare settings, particularly for NMs. Understanding the factors that influence NMs' self-perceived transformational leadership is essential for improving leadership practices and enhancing organizational effectiveness. METHODS: A cross-sectional research design was used to collect data from 260 NMs using standardized measures. RESULTS: Employment status, the number of units managed, the type of hospital employment, psychological distress, and job satisfaction were factors that significantly influenced their leadership perceptions. CONCLUSION: By addressing the identified factors, nursing organizations can create an environment that promotes effective leadership practices, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes, staff satisfaction, and overall organizational performance. Introduction and objective: Constipation is a common complication following spinal surgery that can result in distension, abdominal pain, infection, and even intestinal perforation. This study reports on an evidence-based implementation project to reduce the incidence of constipation in spinal surgery wards. Methods: The project was conducted in the spinal surgery ward of a general tertiary hospital in Changsha City, China, from March to August 2022. We used the JBI Implementation Framework and the JBI Model of Evidence-Based Healthcare for audits and feedback. Data were collected and analyzed using JBI's Practical Application of Clinical Evidence System (PACES) software. Seven audit criteria were developed based on the best practice recommendations summarized by JBI. A baseline audit was conducted with 20 nurses and 50 patients in the spinal surgery ward, and a follow-up audit was conducted using the same sample size and setting. Results: The baseline audit revealed compliance below 46% for five of the seven criteria. Strategies developed to address poor compliance included educating nurses and patients, developing a post-operative constipation risk assessment sheet, organizing stakeholder focus group meetings, establishing a constipation management routine, and effective empowerment of nurses. The follow-up audit showed positive compliance results, with the highest rate for Criterion 7 (100%) and the greatest increase for Criterion 2 (from 0% to 78%). Furthermore, the incidence of post-operative constipation decreased from 48% to 16%. Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds (SIBR) is a standardized, team-based intervention for hospitals to deliver high quality interprofessional care. Despite its potential for improving IPC and the workplace environment, relatively little is known about SIBR's effect on these outcomes. Our study aimed to assess the fidelity of SIBR implementation on an inpatient medicine teaching unit and its effects on perceived IPC and workplace efficiency. We conducted a quasi-experimental study with 88 residents and 44 nurses at a large academic medical center and observed 1308 SIBR encounters over 24 weeks. Of these 1308 encounters, the bedside nurse was present for 96.7%, physician for 97.6%, and care manager for 94.7, and 64.7% occurred at the bedside. Following SIBR implementation, perceived IPC improved significantly among residents (93.3% versus 67.9%, p <.024) and nurses (73.7% versus 36.0%, p <.008) compared to before implementation. Moreover, residents perceived greater workplace efficiency operationalized as being paged less frequently with questions by nurses (20.0% versus 49.1%, p =.01). No statistically significant improvements were reported regarding burnout, meaning at work, and workplace satisfaction. Our implementation of SIBR significantly improved perceived IPC and workplace efficiency, which are two important domains of healthcare quality. Aim: The study aims to analyse the principal causes of patients' care calls and compare differences before and after inpatient beds' technological modernization in a surgical breast oncological ward. Design: A prospective observational study was conducted under the STROBE guidelines. Data were collected from June to September 2022. Methods: Statistical analyses were performed to compare each reason for care calls, by shifts and pre and post‐inpatient bed modernization. Results: Two thousand five hundred and fifty‐nine care request calls were analysed during the 202 observed shifts. The most frequent reason was related to the requests for positions. Conclusion: Technological modernization of the beds has not led to effective—positive—changes; on the contrary, it seems at first glance to show an upward trend in calls above all in the short period after the changes. Implications for the profession and/or patient care: What problem did the study address? By analysing the principal causes of care calls and comparing the differences before and after inpatient beds' technological modernization, this study evaluates if inpatient gear or device modernization can impact care call requests.What were the main findings? The results show that the most frequent reasons for care calls were position, possession and other. These findings seem not superimposable; the hypothesis supported by the international literature in which the causes relating to potty and pain were found among the main reasons.Where and on whom will the research have an impact? Background: Cognitive impairments are a common and negative side effect in individuals receiving chemotherapy. Objective: This study aimed to determine the cognitive status and symptom control in individuals undergoing chemotherapy and investigate the relationship between them. Methods: The descriptive research sample consisted of 140 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at the outpatient chemotherapy unit and medical oncology service of a training and research hospital. Individuals who were newly starting chemotherapy and undergoing chemotherapy were included in the sample. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, The Edmonton Symptom Assessment System, and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy--Cognitive Function (FACT-Cog). Data were collected at two time points, before chemotherapy and after receiving four cycles of chemotherapy. Results: It was found that the total symptom scores significantly increased after four cycles of chemotherapy (p<0.05). The scores of "Perceived Cognitive Impairments," "Comments From Others," and "Perceived Cognitive Abilities" were significantly decreases after four cycles of chemotherapy, while no significant changes were found in the scores of "Impact of Perceived Cognitive Function on Quality of Life" (p>0.05). A negative and significant correlation was found between the FACT-Cog and the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System scores (p<0.001). Conclusions: Cognitive status is negatively affected during the chemotherapy, and the severity of symptoms contributes to cognitive impairment.
