Validate the Preschool Nutrition Education Practices Survey. Iterative approach combining design-based research and Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. Los Angeles, CA and Philadelphia, PA Early Care and Education (ECE) classrooms. Expert panel members (n = 7); ECE teachers: interviews (n = 8), pilot survey (n = 31), and final survey (n = 136). Early care and education nutrition education practices used in the classroom either during class time or mealtime. Qualitative content analysis was implemented for content, response process, and consequences of testing validity evidence. Rasch rating scale analysis was conducted for the response process and internal structure validity and reliability evidence. Qualitative field-testing produced strong content, response process, and consequences of testing validity evidence to inform survey modifications. Quantitative field-testing generated a psychometrically sound, well-targeted 12-item survey on a 4-point frequency scale with excellent item and person reliability (0.97 and 0.93 respectively) and separation (5.36 and 3.77 respectively); good Rasch Principal Components Analysis findings (60.3%); and productive item fit statistics (0.50–1.50 logits). Robust validity (content, response process, consequences of testing, internal structure) and reliability evidence were demonstrated for using the Preschool Nutrition Education Practices Survey to assess ECE teachers' use of nutrition education practices. Future research is needed to examine its relationship to other variables, such as nutrition teaching efficacy, and to determine its ability to detect change in ECE nutrition education practices over time and across groups. The United States faces troubling fertility trends that include high percentages of unintended pregnancies, as well as record-low fertility rates and individuals having fewer offspring than they desire. To address these problems, scholars and public health advocates have argued for the implementation of fertility information into existing sex-education curricula. In this study, we draw from 32 semi-structured interviews with secondary school sex educators to gain insight into their experiences on this front. They contended that one of the greatest barriers to their successfully teaching fertility related material was that students do not find fertility information relevant. Participants described three appeals that they employ to communicate fertility information as persistently relevant to the adolescents in their classes. Our interviews revealed that all three of these relevance appeals employ targeted invitations for students to tailor fertility information in ways that fit them personally. These findings suggest a need to re-conceptualize targeting and tailoring research in ways that connect with the goals of in situ, relevance-oriented communication, and they indicate how a focus on teaching health educators to establish fertility as relevant would help to situate future generations for better sexual and reproductive health over a lifetime. Although recent literature has emphasized the value of African-centered schools among Black youth, little is known about the factors that make Afrocentric schools successful. The current study examined experienced educators' perceptions of their PK − 8 Afrocentric schools using a qualitative focus group interview (n = 7). Drawing from care ethics and the Integrative Model for the Study of Stress in Black American Families, researchers identified three key themes: (1) the formative Influence of upbringing experiences inspiring many educators to work at Afrocentric schools; (2) educators' understanding of the utility of Afrocentric education as foundational to student development and building a community of care; and (3) the dual and synergistic influence of both racial and cultural socialization on educators' outlook of students' character development. Background: Investigating emotion sequence patterns in the posts of discussion forums in massive open online courses (MOOCs) holds a vital role in shaping online interactions and impacting learning achievement. While the majority of research focuses on the relationship between emotions and interactions in MOOC forum discussions, research on identifying the crucial difference in emotion sequence patterns among different interaction groups remains in its infancy. Objectives: This research utilizes deep learning and sequential pattern mining to investigate whether there are differences in emotion sequence patterns across different groups of learners who exhibit various types of interactions in online discussion forums. Methods: Data from a comprehensive array of sources, including log files, discussion texts and scores from 498 learners in online discussion forums, were collected for this study. The agglomerative hierarchical algorithm is used to classify learners into groups with different levels of interactions. Additionally, we implement and evaluate multiple deep learning models for detecting different emotions from online discussions. Relevant emotion sequence patterns were identified using sequence pattern analysis and the identified emotion sequence patterns were compared across different groups with different levels of interactions. Results and Conclusions: Using an agglomerative hierarchical algorithm, we classified learners into three distinct groups characterized by different levels of interactions: high, average and low level. Leveraging the bi‐directional long short‐term memory model for emotion detection yielded the highest predictive performance, with an impressive F‐measure of 94.01%, a recall rate of 93.83% and an accuracy score of 95.01%. The results also revealed that learners in the low‐level interaction group experienced more emotion transition from boredom to frustration than the other two groups. Therefore, the aggregation of students into groups and the utilization of their MOOC log data offer educators the capability to provide adaptive emotional feedback, customize assessments and offer more personalized attention as needed. Background: Mentoring is crucial for professional development and retention of newly hired nurse faculty, yet little is known about the actual mentoring experiences of clinical nurses in their first few years following transition into academic teaching. Method: Individual semistructured interviews were conducted with 23 full-time nontenure-track faculty from 10 higher education institutions in seven states in the United States. All of the faculty were in the first 3 years of teaching in 4-year undergraduate nursing programs. Results: Five themes emerged: (1) chaotic work environments characterized by unpredictable workloads, absence of reliable support, and inconsistent access to information; (2) a de facto do-it-yourself system in which nurses pieced together their own support; (3) reliance on personal social networks; (4) yearning for real mentorship; and (5) future plans about staying in the role. Conclusion: A gap exists between widely touted recommendations about mentoring and the reality of mentoring for newly hired nontenure-track faculty. AIM The aim of this study was to create a theoretical framework that describes how mentoring relationships in academic nursing unfold from the perspectives of nurse faculty mentors. BACKGROUND Mentoring is a strategy that can promote the satisfaction and retention of nurse faculty. Although research has focused on the experiences of protégés in mentoring relationships, little is known about mentoring from the perspectives of nurse faculty mentors. METHOD Constructivist grounded theory was used to interview 24 experienced nurse faculty about their mentoring experiences. RESULTS The theoretical framework Growing Together: Mentors' Perspectives on Mentoring included four phases (getting together, getting going, going together, going beyond) and three strands (relationship with protégé, work of mentoring, emotional impact of mentoring). CONCLUSION Participants experienced a variety of benefits from mentoring while also experiencing a variety of challenges. Background: The integration of information technology into educational systems represents a dynamic educational paradigm that delineates modern education for effective engagement in the third millennium. However, prior to its implementation, efforts should be directed towards identifying the factors influencing its acceptance and utilization. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of e-learning among professors and students of macro medical sciences universities in the third region based on the Davis model in the year 2023. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design. The research instrument consisted of a 25-item Davis questionnaire utilizing a 5-point Likert scale, which was distributed to the samples both in person and virtually following validation and reliability confirmation by experts and a pre-test. The study population comprised 308 professors and 400 students from macro medical sciences universities in Macro Region 3. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation, analysis of variance, and related tests), using SPSS software version 19 and LISREL software for Structural Equation Modeling.Modeling. Results: Data analysis revealed that the structural model of acceptance of electronic learning technology among the students of the University of Medical Sciences in Macro Region 3 is appropriate and applicable in the academic community. The variable of ease of use on attitude towards use demonstrated a coefficient of 0.41 and a T score of 7.16, while the variable of usefulness on decision to use showed a coefficient of 0.46 and a T-score of 6.31. Additionally, usefulness on attitude towards use displayed a coefficient of 0.49 and a T score of 5.92. Moreover, the variable of attitude towards use on decision to use had a coefficient of 0.47 and a T score of 5.65. Finally, the variable of decision to use on use exhibited a coefficient of 0.49 and a T score of 6.42. Conclusions: Conducting preliminary studies to comprehend the current landscape and elucidate the influencing factors in this regard can facilitate the implementation of related programs and pave the way for their efficacy. Moreover, it is advisable for officials and policymakers to employ technology acceptance theories to deploy new systems and technologies, thereby understanding the factors contributing to their acceptance and application, mitigating the risk of failure and resource wastage, and enhancing the quality of education and service delivery. Background: The development of societies relies on the type and manner of activities performed at universities. Professors play a pivotal role in the development of universities and societies. Assessment of professors' motivation and behavior and factors affecting them can improve the educational system and increase its performance. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Physician Teaching Motivation Questionnaire (PTMQ) from the viewpoint of clinical professors at Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS). Methods: This is an instrument psychometric study in which the questionnaire's validity was determined through the face and content validity and its construct validity through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was determined through the calculation of Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient and consistency between agreers. The data were analyzed in SPSS 23 and LISREL 8.8. Results: The results showed that all 18 items had acceptable content validity (0.68-0.97). The Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.81 and 0.86, respectively. The number of items remained unchanged at 18 according to exploratory factor analysis which classified them into six categories (intrinsic motivation, identified motivation, introjected motivation, career motivation, external motivation, and teaching assistant motivation) and explained 54% of the total variance of the mentioned variables. Also, the value of CFI was equal to 0.93 and the value of Cohen's kappa was between 0.77 and 0.84. Conclusion: The Persian version of PTMQ is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used for research, educational, and practical purposes to evaluate the teaching motivation of clinical professors in other groups. This study examined how normative beliefs, identification scores, perceived severity, self-efficacy in intervention, and victim-blaming tendencies impact teachers' willingness to intervene in relational bullying. Two groups of Taiwanese teachers (145 and 541 participants) completed self-developed questionnaires. Reliability and validity were assessed using Rasch analysis for the first group, while the second group's data were analyzed through hierarchical multiple regression. The results indicated that normative beliefs, perceived severity, victim-blaming tendencies, and self-efficacy significantly predicted teachers' willingness to intervene. Additionally, victim-blaming tendencies moderated the relationship between intervention efficacy and willingness. Specifically, under conditions of low self-efficacy, a high victim-blaming tendency led to a significantly reduced willingness to intervene. The current study examined the teacher candidates' perceptions of ways a process-based reflective teacher training course-especially those focused on bumpy moments in the classroom, through situational role plays, video reflections, and scenarios- could assist them in their reflective and caring practices. In this regard, a sample of 45 pre-service teacher candidates enrolled at a teacher education university in Iran partook in the study and filled in the reflective and caring practices questionnaire before and after the treatment. Moreover, three teacher candidates were offered to keep reflective journals about the procedure based on their observations. Furthermore, pre- and post-phase interview was conducted with 15 participants. The results of this study revealed that the participants across all three intervention groups experienced improvement as a result of engaging in the teacher training course. The scenario group had the highest mean, followed by the video group; the role play group showed the least amount of improvement in reflective questionnaire mean score of all the treatment groups. The implication is that the process-oriented reflective teacher training course through situational role-play, video-based reflection, and scenario-based reflection can make teacher candidates more cautious about the caring and reflective aspects of their teaching. Research-based practices generally improve student outcomes but are not regularly implemented with fidelity in classrooms. Websites that feature research-based practices may be used to improve pre-service teachers' understanding of the practices; however, little is known about pre-service teachers' experiences with or perceptions of these websites. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and explore pre-service teachers' perceptions of content related to one effective strategy, self-monitoring, after reviewing three websites that feature research-based practices (i.e., IRIS, Ci3T, and Intervention Central) to which they were randomly assigned. Results indicate that the 168 participating U.S. pre-service teachers increased their perceived understanding of self-monitoring after visiting the websites. In addition, participants identified features of the websites (i.e., videos, real-world examples, implementation guides, assessments, quizzes, resources, and organization) they perceived as helping them understand self-monitoring. Objective: To identify (1) university educators' perceptions of academic adjustments (AA), and (2) if teaching experience correlated with AA perceptions following concussion. Participants: Two hundred twenty educators. Methods: University educators were invited to complete a survey containing four subsections; this manuscript focuses on AA following concussion. Objective 1 was descriptive; we conducted spearman's rho correlations between years of teaching experience and AA perceptions to address objective 2. Results: Educators were moderately familiar with AA but were not confident in their knowledge about AA following concussion. Participants who provided AA following concussion most often allowed excused absences and extra time for exams/assignments. There were no significant relationships between teaching experience and perceptions of AA. Conclusions: University educators largely feel unprepared to provide or recommend AA following concussion but had favorable AA perceptions following concussion. Reflecting team is a structured and guided method for peer collaborative reflection on critical incidents in teaching. The present evaluation study combining quantitative and qualitative data investigates the perceived usefulness and central insights associated with the participation in a reflecting team session. This method was implemented among three groups of teachers in Germany: student teachers, school teachers, and higher education teachers. All three groups reported high levels of perceived usefulness of the method and provided insights into their central experiences in connection with the reflecting team. Differences between the three groups in terms of perceived usefulness and central insights of peer reflection stem from participants' distinct organizational and educational contexts and show various ways of how teachers can derive benefits from the reflecting team method. This study explores English Language Teaching (ELT) teachers' experiences of reflective practice in Türkiye. It looks at the role agency plays in reflection in relation to teacher growth. Thirteen ELT teachers were interviewed through narrative interviews and critical incidents. All teachers were engaged in reflection-in-action and reflection-on-action; however, they differed in the criticality of their reflection and what they reflected on. Their ability to engage in critical reflection, and therefore their growth, was shaped by their agency. Those with a future-oriented agency could focus on their aspirations, detach themselves from present constraints and engage in critical reflection. However, those with present-oriented agency tended to view external factors as disablers and struggled to reflect critically. As critical reflection can lead to teacher development, developing agency to support reflective opportunities throughout pre-service and in-service years seems essential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The apps for drawing are present in our children's life. Nevertheless, little is known about the impact of mobile technology on the freehand drawing educational activity. There are few works which are contextualised within short periods of time, with teachers who are not theirs and, in some cases, outside the children's classroom. In this paper, we are focussed on the use of technology on freehand drawing activity. Thus, we have compared the graphics produced by 4- and 5-year-old children with paper&crayon in comparison with those with tablet-finger. Children made the drawings during a planned free-drawing activity, in their ordinary classrooms, with their teachers and during five sessions. Assessment of drawings has evidenced tablet feasibility for making graphics. Nevertheless, with the passing of time, quality of graphics (tablet-finger vs paper&crayons), are nearly matched, demonstrating the low impact level technology has on this activity. In addition, if drawings are analysed specifically according to ages, results have shown that both groups have to develop adaptation strategies of visual perceptual skills and fine motor skills for the touch screen in order to obtain the same quality in the drawings made on both support types. Objective: To validate the Inventory of Teachers' Negative Attitudes towards the Care of Students with Diabetes Mellitus type 1 (INAPAD) and to study its reliability using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's Omega coefficients. Methods: This study describes the design and validation process of the INAPAD nursing scale in a sample of 382 teachers in the stages of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training in a Spanish province. In order to validate the INAPAD, its reliability has been studied using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's Omega Coefficients. Hence, the construct validity has been evaluated through exploratory factor analysis by principal components and varimax rotation. Results and conclusion: The findings obtained inform the viability of the INAPAD to be used as an effective instrument for the diagnosis of prejudice or predisposition of educators towards the care of learners with type 1 DM and for the prediction of the success of psycho-pedagogical measures and of the care for children and adolescents with diabetes. Preschool education institutions, where children have close contact and social interactions, can serve as potential environments for the transmission of infectious diseases. This issue poses a significant health concern, impacting both individual and public well-being. Thus, the present research set out to determine the prevalence of infectious diseases in preschool children and the views of parents and teachers on the prevention of infectious diseases. The study employed a mixed-method approach and involved 397 parents and 46 preschool teachers. The study was survey-based via in-person interviews. The results revealed that after they started school (almost in 5 months), children with a mean age of 4.7 ± 0.5 years experienced illness approximately 3.5 ± 2.0 times, of whom 91.5% used antibiotics. The prevalence of infectious diseases was found to be associated with the child's being born at term, maternal education level, and the public/private status of preschool institutions. The presence of a sick child in the classroom elicits negative emotions from both teachers and parents. They recommend that studies on education, safety, hygiene, school health, health screenings, regulation of the learning environment, legal regulations, and school exclusion policies be carried out to prevent infectious diseases. When children with infectious diseases come to school, nearly half of the teachers admit them to the classroom due to various reasons and pressures. Parents request teachers to monitor medication, control sweating, and use a nebulizer for their sick children. Some of the teachers meet these requests, but they claim that the educational process is negatively affected. At preschool education institutions, the risk factors of infectious diseases have a complex structure and can be influenced by variables related to teachers, children, parents and the institution itself. Infectious diseases not only pose a threat to health but also impact teachers' and parents' emotions, teacher–child relationships, and the overall atmosphere within schools and classrooms. Seventy-five general and 65 special education teachers working in the same 65 elementary schools in 12 different U.S. school districts were surveyed about their mindsets concerning the malleability of writing and intelligence as well as their practices for teaching writing. All teachers taught writing to one or more fourth-grade students receiving special education services, including students with learning disabilities. Both general and special education teachers typically held a growth mindset toward the malleability of writing and intelligence. Collectively, these teachers' mindsets predicted writing frequency (i.e., frequency of students' writing) and how often they taught writing skills and processes once variance due to teachers' preparation, efficacy to teach writing, teaching experience, and type of teacher was first controlled. The observed relationships between teachers' mindsets and reported practices for teaching writing were not mediated by type of teacher (i.e., general or special education). General and special education teachers did not differ in writing frequency for three types of writing collectively (narrative, informative, and persuasive) or how frequently they made 18 adaptations for teaching writing collectively, but general education teachers reported teaching writing skills and processes more often than their special education counterparts. AIM This qualitative descriptive study explored the contributors to second-degree accelerated program (SDAP) student success during COVID-19 as described by SDAP administrators, directors, and faculty. BACKGROUND SDAPs are fast, rigorous, and stressful. Understanding how SDAP students remain successful, despite their challenges and stressors, during the disorder of a global pandemic could provide insight for administrators, directors, and faculty on how to facilitate success in SDAP students in the future. METHOD A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study. Personal interviews and a demographic survey were used for data collection. RESULTS Fourteen SDAP administrators, directors, and faculty participated. Six themes emerged: engagement, clinical experiences, student characteristics, relationships, flexibility, and faculty concerns. CONCLUSION Participants shared several recommendations to guide other SDAP administrators, directors, and faculty in developing robust SDAPs and successful students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many children with developmental delays need early intervention services but do not receive them. Developmental screening provides the impetus for identification of delays and service referrals but is not used consistently across all early childhood education settings. We used an implementation science framework to examine attitudes and engagement in a developmental screening program across three U.S. early childcare centers. Teachers demonstrated adequate knowledge of screening following training in the screener and were highly engaged in the screening process. Teachers' positive attitudes toward screening increased yet perceived barriers to regular use of screening in their practice remained unchanged. Family participation in the screening process varied across centers and suggested a trend between family income and participation. Future research is needed to target pervasive barriers to teachers' use of screening, such as perceived difficulties in engaging parents in the screening process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Running Records are thought to be an excellent formative assessment tool because they generate results that educators can use to make their teaching more responsive. Despite the technical nature of scoring Running Records and the kinds of important decisions that are attached to their analysis, few studies have investigated assessor accuracy. We measured precision across 114 teachers who were given a pre-coded Running Record to analyze by comparing their quantification and interpretation of the record against a scoring key. We also used Rasch measurement to examine which items teachers found easy and hard to score accurately. Analyses revealed wide variation in teachers' accuracy, particularly in interpretation, that, according to item difficulty analysis, were caused by a few specific mistakes in scoring. The COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented in scope and nature, altering everyday life for people across the United States. One major change involved how schools provided educational services. Prior to the pandemic, schools used in-person instruction as their service delivery model for educational and education-related services, such as services for the blind and visually impaired. To document the effects of this historic event, an exploratory survey through Qualtrics was conducted on the perceptions of (a) teachers of students with visual impairments and (b) orientation and mobility specialists in four categories: service delivery models, student demographics, instruction and engagement, and preparation and training. Percentages were calculated with closed questions, and open-ended responses were used to clarify the data. There were some significant post-hoc correlations between ability to provide educational services and instructional delivery models. Aim: The aim of this article is to describe and compare the nurse educator competences in four European countries using three different evaluators: nurse educators (n = 329), heads of a nursing subject (n = 60) and student nurses (n = 1058). Design: The study was conducted as a comparative cross‐sectional survey in Finland, Malta, Slovakia and Spain between May 2021 and February 2022. Methods: The data were collected with an online survey. The instrument used was a 20‐item Tool for Evaluation of Requirements of Nurse Teachers, utilizing a 5‐point Likert‐type scale. The data were analysed statistically and reported according to STROBE guidelines. Results: Nurse educators' competence evaluated positively in all the groups of evaluators, with a mean of >3.5. The self‐evaluation of nurse educators' competence was higher than the other evaluators' evaluations. Having a degree in nursing, having completed some pedagogical studies and longer work experience as a nurse educator had a positive association with higher self‐evaluated competence among nurse educators. Conclusions: Nurse educator competence is at a good level in the selected European countries, but further studies are required to find the reasons behind the differences in evaluations. Interprofessional education (IPE) has increasingly been delivered online using synchronous and asynchronous mediums; however, little research focuses on facilitation strategies in the synchronous environment. We explored whether the perceived strategies used by facilitators in online synchronous IPE facilitation are similar to those used in face-to-face and online asynchronous IPE facilitation, and if the strategies are used to a similar degree online in both synchronous and asynchronous environments. Following completion of an online IPE course, students and facilitators were invited to complete an anonymous questionnaire exploring their perceptions of the facilitation strategies used in their synchronous and asynchronous IPE experiences. Responses were received from 118 students and 21 facilitators. Descriptive statistics indicate that students and facilitators perceived facilitation strategies are being used in online synchronous settings that have previously been recognized in asynchronous and face-to-face IPE settings. This included strategies linked to communicating about the design/organization of the experience, providing direct instruction, facilitating and encouraging interprofessional interaction, and contextualizing IPE. BACKGROUND: Reliable and culturally informed health communication is vital in developing positive health behaviors. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the change in knowledge and attitudes about COVID-19 vaccines by providing training to educators in a province in the east of Turkey. METHODS: A questionnaire developed by the researchers on the basis of the literature was used in this intervention study. It consisted of three parts: socio-demographic information, before education knowledge (BEK) and Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccine (BEATV), and after education knowledge (AEK) and Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccine (AEATV). There were 99 teachers, 32 public education teachers, and 144 religious officials who participated in the study. The data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics Pack version 22.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Statistical significance value was accepted as p < 0.05. RESULTS: Among the participants, the number of correct answers to all questions increased as a result of the study. There was a positive increase in most of the ATV items after the training. Aims. To measure nursing clinical teachers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices about nursing students (NSs) suffering from workplace violence (WPV) in China. Background. The nursing clinical teacher is the most important person for NS during the clinical rotation. In contrast, there is a lack of investigation into the ability of nursing clinical teachers to manage NSs suffering from WPV. Method. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Hubei province, China, between June and July 2022. Convenience sampling was employed to recruit clinical teachers in 9 tertiary hospitals who met the inclusion criteria. The survey was conducted using a self-designed questionnaire which has good reliability and validity. Questionnaires were collected through a web-based platform called Questionnaire Star in China. In July 2022, a total of 900 questionnaires were eventually distributed, and 869 valid questionnaires were returned. The software SPSS 26.0 was used to conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Result. The mean ± SD knowledge, attitudes, and practices scores of the nursing clinical teachers were 69.51 ± 12.78, 29.11 ± 4.38, and 82.84 ± 13.60, respectively. Also, the average score rate was 77.24%, 83.17%, and 87.20%, respectively. There are still deficiencies in the knowledge, attitudes, and practices index, such as knowledge about the sources of violence, perceptions about influencing factors, and behavioural practices for prevention. Factors affecting the knowledge index scores included teachers' age, highest academic degree obtained, years of work, the highest level of education that they could teach NSs, whether they had experienced WPV, whether they had witnessed NSs suffering from WPV, and whether their NSs had suffered from WPV. Factors affecting scores on the attitude index included the age, highest academic degree obtained, years of work, the highest level of education that they could teach NSs, and whether they had received training on prevention and coping with WPV. Factors influencing the score for the practice index included the working department, highest academic degree obtained, professional title, the highest level of education that they could teach NSs, and whether they had received training on prevention and coping with WPV. Conclusion. Nursing clinical teachers showed moderate levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices about NSs suffering from WPV. The deficiencies mainly focused on the sources, manifestations, influencing factors, and preventive strategies of it. Also, nursing clinical teachers should be trained to better prevent and cope with WPV suffered by NSs. At the same time, in order to better protect and teach NSs, the selection criteria for nursing clinical teachers should be stricter, with requirements on age, education, years of working experience, and titles. Implications for Nursing Management. With nursing clinical teachers as the training target, health organizations and institutions should actively develop training related to preventing and coping with NSs suffering from WPV. Also, it should be incorporated into the preservice training system for nursing clinical teachers. The content of training could focus on the sources, manifestations, influencing factors, and prevention strategies of NSs suffering from WPV. The method could be online theoretical teaching combined with offline scenario simulation exercises. At the same time, strict admission criteria for nursing clinical teachers can be helpful in protecting the safety of NSs during the clinical rotation phase. For nursing managers, they should be kept abreast of organisational policies and adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards violence. Importance: There is an evidence-based need to assess the validity and reliability/precision of the revised American Occupational Therapy Association's Fieldwork Performance Evaluation (FWPE) items for the occupational therapy student (OTS) and the occupational therapy assistant student (OTAS). Objective: To evaluate evidence of validity in relation to response processes, internal structure, and precision of the FWPEs. Design: Cross-sectional study design. Setting: OTS and OTAS fieldwork practice settings, United States. Participants: Two hundred sixty-seven fieldwork educators participated in total, providing 228 OTS evaluations and 39 OTAS evaluations. Outcomes and Measures: A Rasch model was used to evaluate aspects of validity and precision. Results: The rating scales provided evidence of the tools' overall validity. Thirty-two of 37 items on the FWPE for the OTS, and 27 of 31 items on the FWPE for the OTAS demonstrated acceptable fit, but the evidence of unidimensionality in the subscales and in the total scales was not fully supported. The total/reduced FWPE scales were able to separate students into at least four distinct groups of fieldwork performance. The relationships between the current and revised FWPEs indicate that the new scales measure different but related constructs of student fieldwork performance, compared with the current version. Conclusions and Relevance: The findings support that the revised FWPEs for the OTS and OTAS demonstrate preliminary evidence of internal structure, response processes, and precision, supporting evidence-based practice in fieldwork evaluations. Background & Aims: According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), pervasive developmental disorders are divided into the categories of autism, RAT, child collapse disorder, and Asperger's (2). Meanwhile, autism disorder is one of the diseases of the group of pervasive developmental disorders, which is characterized by persistent destruction in mutual social interaction, communication delay or deviation, and limited stereotyped communication pattern (3). The characteristics of this disorder, as well as the sometimes difficult and late diagnosis, the appearance of symptoms after a normal child's development, the lack of definitive and effective treatments, and the not very favorable prognosis, can put severe psychological pressure on the family. And the parents of the child should impose (4). Perceived benefit means that a person sees help-seeking as an effective strategy to promote learning, while perceived threat refers to the threat to a person's self-worth that arises by admitting the need for help (8). In general, there are few studies about the attitude towards the use of the selected approaches in this research, repeating and comparing the effectiveness of the intervention method is of great importance. By repeating this treatment method on the teachers of autistic children, if the previous results are confirmed, additional evidence is provided, and if the previous evidence is not confirmed, it provides new windows for research. By providing an overview of library services as well as the building layout, the library orientation can help newcomers make optimal use of the library. The benefits of this outreach can be curtailed, however, by the significant staffing required to offer in-person tours. One academic library overcame this issue by turning to user experience research and gamification to provide an individualized online library orientation for four specific user groups: undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and community members. The library surveyed 167 users to investigate preferences regarding orientation format, as well as likelihood of future library use as a result of the gamified orientation format. The purpose of this study was to determine expert consensus regarding the essential characteristics of adapted physical education practicum experiences for preservice physical educators. Researchers used a 3-round Delphi procedure involving the repeated circulation of an online questionnaire to a panel of content experts (N = 24). During Round 1, panelists generated 70 items in response to an open-ended prompt. Then, panelists rated these recommendations on importance and feasibility in the following rounds. After the third round, 23 items were eliminated for failing to reach consensus. Of the remaining 47 items, 24 were both very important and feasible (both means >6), 21 were very important (mean ≥ 6) and probably feasible (mean ≥ 5), and 2 were feasible (mean ≥ 6) and moderately important (mean ≥ 5). Four major themes were identified through a post hoc qualitative cluster analysis: program context, teaching and learning activities, outcomes/soft skills, and evaluation of instructor performance. Background: Teachers are important gatekeepers in suicide prevention for children and youth, yet little is known about factors that contribute to suicide prevention training effectiveness and the influence of student suicidality on teachers' role as gatekeepers. Objective: This study examined teachers' attitudes and self-efficacy in suicide prevention including an examination of suicide prevention training and exposure to student suicidality. Researchers examined incremental prediction of the relationship between teachers' self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and outcome values following prevention training. Methods: Participants included teachers in PreK-12th grade schools in the United States (N = 505). Researchers used non-parametric statistics to examine group level differences and a structural equation model (SEM) to test the proposed theoretical model. Results: Teachers who experienced a student death by suicide reported significantly higher levels of gatekeeper reluctance than teachers who had not experienced a student death by suicide (p < 0.01). Similarly, teachers who encountered students with suicidal thoughts reported greater levels of gatekeeper reluctance (p < 0.01) and higher self-efficacy to engage in suicide prevention (p < 0.05) compared to teachers who had not had this exposure. Results of the SEM indicated an adequate goodness of fit and fit statistics [χ2 (87) = 194.420, p = 0.000; CFI = 0.95; RMSEA = 0.05]. The model remained in-tact when exposure to student suicide was added. Conclusions: Findings support the importance of supporting teachers continued engagement in youth suicide prevention and prevention training that targets specific outcomes in teachers' attitudes and efficacy. We surveyed early childhood personnel in the U.S. state of Colorado to explore reported practices during the initial evaluation of young children for early intervention or preschool special education. One hundred early childhood personnel participated. Overall, reported evaluation practices and processes matched recommended practices and met legal guidelines, including gathering information from a variety of sources and the use of a family-guided and team-based approach. Reported challenges included not having enough time to collect information, struggles to arrange the evaluation, difficulties determining eligibility, and systems issues regarding working conditions, training, and collaboration across agencies. Translation and interpretation were the most commonly utilized culturally responsive practices; challenges working with translators and interpreters were noted along with the need to improve other culturally and linguistically responsive practices. Implications for practice are discussed, including ways to improve the initial evaluation process for all families to assure early identification and timely access to services. The adoption and sustainability of evidence-based Tier 1 literacy practices in secondary content-area classes is important to improve reading success for students with learning disabilities. We conducted an exploratory multiple-case study investigating teachers' adoption and sustained use of evidence-based Tier 1 literacy practices that benefit students with learning disabilities. The study was conducted within the context of an adolescent literacy model demonstration project funded by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs (i.e., Promoting Adolescents' Comprehension of Text [PACT] Plus). Interviews were conducted with two administrators and seven teachers who sustained implementation of the PACT practices beyond 1 year of researcher support. Analyses revealed practice and school-level factors that influenced teachers' sustained use of the practices. We used findings from this study to propose a model of sustainability of Tier 1 evidence-based literacy practices used to improve outcomes for students with learning disabilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the "Don't Touch My Body" Training Program (DTMB-TP) and raise awareness of child sexual abuse (CSA) among future pre-school teachers enrolled in a Turkish university. The study design was quasi-experimental and employed two groups (intervention and control) with pre-test/post-test. Convenience sampling method was used. The study sample included participants (n = 218) enrolled in an academic degree program to become pre-school teachers. Data were collected using a descriptive information form and the "DTMB" awareness form. The data collection forms were administered to the study and control groups at baseline (pre-test) and 4 weeks after the intervention. The intervention applied to the experimental group was conducted face-to-face in one class hour (40 minutes) under the leadership of a nurse. There was a statistically significant increase in the knowledge of the children's private body parts, good/bad touch, reactions to strangers, and the family security password in the intervention group in the post-test (p <.05). In the post-test, no increase was observed in the control group's CSA knowledge level score (p >.05). The DTMB-TP effectively increased the awareness of preventing sexual abuse in participants. Introduction: With the inclusion of 40 hours of simulated practice education for UK occupational therapy students and the subsequent impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, universities have been exploring simulated placement opportunities. However, the evidence available to guide the development of such placements is sparse. This article presents the first stage of a grounded theory study that seeks to understand what students learn during the course of their first practice placement, with the intention of informing simulated placement development. Method: Grounded theory methodology was used to guide semi-structured individual interviews with 15 participants – seven undergraduate students, three practice educators and five postgraduate pre-registration students. Interviews occurred close to the end of the first practice placement. Concurrent data collection and analysis led to the development of categories of learning. Findings: Four core categories of learning were identified: learning about oneself, learning about the occupational therapy profession, learning about practices and learning about service users. Conclusion: Understanding of these four categories of learning may enable educators to consider learning which occurs that may not be anticipated, particularly in regard to personal development. CONTEXT: Structured Feedback is a learning and assessment tool designed to provide feedback to students and educators to adjust learning and teaching during the training. Lack of provision of structured feedback to postgraduate (PG) medical students prompted us to plan a study to introduce a structured feedback module into the existing monthly assessment schedules in the Department of Transfusion Medicine. AIM: This study aims to introduce a structured feedback module and evaluate its efficacy after incorporation into the existing monthly assessment schedules for the PG students in the Department of Transfusion Medicine. DESIGN AND SETTING: A quasi-experimental study was commenced after obtaining clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee in the Department of Transfusion Medicine for the students pursuing postgraduation in Transfusion Medicine. METHODOLOGY: A peer-validated feedback module was designed and implemented for MD students by the core team faculty. The students underwent the structured feedback sessions after each monthly assessment for of 3 months. One on one, verbal feedback was conducted using Pendleton's method, for monthly online assessment for the learning that happened during study period. DATA COLLECTION AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: The data were collected from the open-ended and closed-ended questions using Google form-based Student/Faculty perception and students' pre-post self-efficacy questionnaires on 5-point Likert Scale and the quantitative data analysis was done using percentage of Likert scores, median values for each item for pre-and post-responses and comparison using nonparametric test – Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The qualitative data analysis was done using thematic analysis from the open ended questions. RESULTS: All (n = 9; 100%) the PG students strongly agreed and agreed (median score of 5 and 4) that the feedback they received made them aware of their learning gaps, enabled them in bridging those gaps and provided ample opportunity to interact with faculty. Both students and faculty agreed that the feedback session should be an ongoing and continuous process in the department. CONCLUSION: Both the students as well as faculty were satisfied with the implementation of the feedback module in the department. Students reported awareness about the learning gaps, identification of appropriate study resources, and ample opportunity to interact with faculty, after taking the feedback sessions. Importance: Handwriting legibility is the main criterion for determining whether a child has handwriting difficulties. A comprehensive assessment of handwriting legibility with sound psychometrics is essential to timely identification of handwriting difficulties and outcome measurement after handwriting interventions. Objective: To evaluate the psychometrics of the Computer-Aided Measure of Chinese Handwriting Legibility (CAM-CHL) and to investigate Chinese handwriting legibility in school-age children using the CAM-CHL. Design: Cross-sectional, repeated observation, test–retest. Setting: Elementary schools in Taiwan. Participants: We recruited 25 lower-grade children for the examination of test–retest reliability, 75 children from all grade levels, and 10 senior schoolteachers for the examination of the CAM-CHL's convergent validity and the investigation of handwriting legibility. Outcomes and Measures: Children were asked to copy a set of Chinese characters as legibly as possible. We used the CAM-CHL to assess handwriting legibility in four domains: Size, Orientation, Position, and Deformation. The schoolteachers were asked to subjectively assess the handwriting legibility using a 3-point Likert-type scale. Results: The CAM-CHL demonstrated good to excellent test–retest reliability and acceptable random measurement error in all legibility domains. The CAM-CHL had fair to moderate convergent validity with schoolteachers' perceptions. Additionally, upper-grade children had better handwriting legibility in the Size and Position domains than lower-grade children. Conclusions and Relevance: The CAM-CHL, a comprehensive and objective method of assessing Chinese handwriting legibility, has sound reliability and acceptable validity, suggesting its potential as an outcome measure for school-age children. Background: While rural physicians are the ideal candidates to investigate health and healthcare issues in rural communities, they often lack the required skills, competencies, and resources. As a result, research skills development programs are crucial to help ensure communities receive the quality of care they deserve. Memorial University of Newfoundland created a research skills development program called 6for6 to empower and enable rural physicians to research solutions to community-specific health needs. 6for6 program delivery was exclusively in-person until 2019. However, with limitations introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations around the globe needed to respond quickly. As we work to return to a post-pandemic environment, program administrators and educators worldwide are unsure whether to retain or remove the changes made to programs to adapt to the pandemic restrictions. Therefore, this work addresses the impact of the online delivery model in two areas: 1) attainment of competencies (specifically research skills, knowledge, and attitudes); and 2) participant experiences, defined as the ease of attendance, the capacity to interact with team members and peers, and challenges or barriers associated with navigating program resources. Methods: We compared the effect of an online delivery model pivoted to adapt pandemic restrictions with the original model (primarily face-to-face) on the acquisition of learning competencies and participant experience using a mixed-methods study. Various data collection methods, such as a pre-post program survey, post-program focus group, and structured observation, were utilized. Results: From 2014 to 2021, 35 physicians attended the program (30 face-to-face and five online). The Wilcoxon-sign-rank test did not show any significant differences in the participants' median change of research competency scores who attended face-to-face and online learning, respectively: knowledge (32.6, 26.8), attitudes (3.8, 3.5), and skills (32.4, 20.0). Flexibility and accessibility were key aspects of participants' experiences during the online model. Comparison with previous years demonstrated no significant challenges with the virtual delivery model, yet participants struggled with mentorship challenges and learning-life balance. Conclusions: Although presenting some unique challenges, the online model did not negatively affect learner competencies. Likewise, it provided opportunities for rural physicians to attend learning sessions and interact with experts and peers while remaining in their communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is a research-to-practice gap in the identification and use of evidence-based practices in special education. One way to better understand the persistent gap between research and practice and to inform professional development efforts is through gaining an understanding of teacher and paraprofessional perceptions. We conducted a survey study to identify paraprofessionals' perceived skills and needs regarding categories of practices aligning with evidence-based practices for students with autism spectrum disorder. A total of 768 paraprofessionals completed the survey. We used descriptive statistics, one-way analyses of variance (ANOVAs), post hoc analyses, and chi-square tests to analyze paraprofessionals' responses. Paraprofessionals reported a range of responses and several of their responses differed significantly in relation to their experience and the population of students they supported. Findings suggest there is a need to individualize professional development based on both classroom and paraprofessional training needs. Background: The pandemic catapulted the adoption of virtual care far ahead of its anticipated maturation date, forcing faculty to role model and teach learners with barely enough time to master it themselves. With a scant body of prepandemic literature now accompanied by experience gained under extraordinary circumstances, we can benefit from understanding ad hoc strategies implemented by those on the front lines and from listening to learners about what is working and what is not. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of learner integration into virtual care from both the faculty and learner perspectives. Methods: Using a constructivist grounded theory methodology and sociomateriality as a sensitising concept, we recruited participants using purposeful and theoretical sampling from a Canadian University with limited prepandemic virtual care provision. We interviewed 16 faculty and 5 learners spanning a breadth of specialties and years of practice/education to probe their experience of teaching and learning virtual care. Data collection and analysis were conducted iteratively with themes identified through constant comparative analysis. Results: Integrating learners into virtual care proved challenging initially because of a lack of familiarity with the process and later because of disrupted workflow, triggered by the structure and logistics of the virtual care clinic. Both faculty and learners identified learning deficiencies in the virtual care experience when compared with in‐person clinics, but several unique and valuable learning affordances were noted. All faculty expressed a desire to keep virtual care as part of their future clinic practice, but paradoxically most felt that they were unlikely to include learners. Conclusions: Training learners in virtual care is an educational challenge that will not disappear with COVID‐19, even if our participants wished it could. The perceived value for patients but not learners begs a reconsideration of the sociomaterial contribution to this pandemic paradox. Paradoxically, virtual care is found to be valued for patients but not for the learners who need to care for those patients. Reflective thinking and teaching style are considered as two prominent and influential factors in the process of education. There have been several studies carried out to investigate different aspects of each of these two factors. However, no studies have been done to explore the possible relationship between these two crucial elements. Therefore, the present study set out to fill the gap and explore the relationship between reflective thinking and teaching style among EFL teachers in Iran. Ninety EFL teachers including 50 males and 40 females were chosen as the participants of this research. The questionnaires selected for the data collection phase were given to the teachers and they were asked to fill them out. The collected data were analyzed and it was found that there was a positive correlation between EFL teachers' reflective thinking and their teaching style. Modifications to the social–ecological model, such as Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) frameworks, have been utilized in comprehensive school health interventions. Classroom physical activity breaks are used when implementing whole-of-school approaches. However, the onus to implement classroom physical activity breaks is on school stakeholders. This study aimed to explore teacher and principal perceptions and implementation of physical activity breaks in elementary schools. Further, this study investigated how theoretical factors representative of the social–ecological model and their interactions affect teacher and principal perceptions and utilization of classroom physical activity breaks. Interviews were conducted to understand teacher and principal perceptions and implementation. A total of 12 classroom teachers and five principals participated in semi-structured interviews which were analyzed using constant comparison and deductive analysis to identify relationships and themes coded across the social–ecological and WSCC models. To ensure fidelity individuals that led the professional development (n = 2) were also interviewed. Three main themes emerged as part of the data analysis: (i) The Connection Between Intrapersonal Knowledge and Interpersonal Professional Development, (ii) Resources, Sharing Means Caring and (iii) The Policy Level Creates Time. Teachers and principals valued knowledge and resources and felt that policy facilitated implementation. Results suggest that classroom physical activity breaks are influenced by multiple factors across varied levels of the social–ecological model. Aim: This study aimed to explore faculty‐to‐faculty incivility in university nursing programmes and to identify the perceptions of faculty regarding the reasons and solutions for incivility. Background: Incivility is a fundamental problem in nursing educational settings. Methods: This cross‐sectional and analytic study comprised 330 faculty members from different schools of nursing in Turkey. A personal information form and the 12‐item Incivility Scale were used to collect data. The data were analysed by using descriptive analysis, Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis tests, Spearman's correlation test, linear regression tests and thematic analysis. Results: Faculty and research assistants who were single and holding master's degrees perceived high incivility (p <.05). There was also a significant, mildly negative relationship between age and incivility scores (r = −0.236). A strict hierarchical structure was revealed to also be a reason for incivility (p <.05). Conclusion: Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of the solutions for faculty‐to‐faculty incivility. Implications for Nursing Management: This study can guide administrators regarding the causes and solutions of incivility within academic environments. By implementing strategies to increase awareness, administrators can become positive role models for faculty, providing a respectful and fair work environment to prevent incivility. The quantity and quality of research focused on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have grown over the past several decades. Ensuring that research findings are accessible and understood by education professionals is essential for improving outcomes for individuals with ASD. In this study, we evaluated education professionals' knowledge about ASD, specifically (a) beliefs about causes of ASD, (b) their familiarity with evidence-based practices (EBPs) and non-EBPs, (c) the likelihood of using or recommending EBPs compared with non-EBPs, and (d) the extent to which source credibility influenced the likelihood of using or recommending different types of practices. Education professionals (N = 62) completed a paper survey. Responses on a modified version of the Illness Perception Questionnaire–Revised (Moss-Morris et al., 2002) were used to evaluate participants' beliefs regarding causal attributes of ASD. Educators were also asked to read texts describing four EBPs and four non-EBPs. The text presentation was based on a 2 × 2 within-subjects factorial design with practice status (EBP or non-EBP) and source credibility (credible or not credible) as the independent variables. After reading each text, participants reported on whether they were (a) familiar with the practice and (b) the extent to which they would use or recommend the practice. Results indicate that school personnel were highly confident that neurobiological factors were a causal attribute of ASD. In addition, respondents were more familiar with, and more likely to recommend or use, EBPs as compared with non-EBPs. Introduction.: The Clinical Internship Evaluation Tool (CIET) is a reliable and valid clinical education assessment tool but is used less frequently by physical therapist education programs than the Physical Therapist Clinical Performance Instrument (PT CPI). The purposes of this exploratory study were to: 1) explore CI and student perceptions for the CIET as an accurate and user-friendly measurement of physical therapist (PT) student clinical performance; and 2) to compare stakeholder perceptions of CIET as a clinical performance tool to PT CPI. Methods.: Clinical instructors and PT students were recruited from 5 geographically diverse physical therapist education programs and completed both the PT CPI and CIET at the midterm and final evaluation during a full-time clinical education experience. A post-survey collected data related to participants' perceptions of tool feasibility and ease of use. The Wilcoxon sign rank test was used to determine whether significant differences existed in the participants' perceptions related to the utility of the CIET versus PT CPI. Results.: One hundred one participants (56 PT students; 45 CIs) completed the study. Most student and CI participants (91.1%) indicated that the CIET completion time was < 45 minutes. More students (66.1%) and CIs (73.3%) reported a PT CPI completion time of > 45 minutes. Students (71.4%) and CIs (68%) preferred the CIET to the CPI. There was a significant difference in perception of ease of use (Z-score = −5.42, P <.001), appropriate completion time (Z-score = −7.25, P <.001), and little redundancy of items (Z-score = −7.17, P <.001). Discussion and Conclusion.: Students and CIs preferred the CIET which was perceived to be easy to use and completed in < 45 minutes while still retaining the ability to accurately measure student performance in clinic.
