This work discusses the optical systems with brightness amplification based on two copper bromide brightness amplifiers for studying the combustion of aluminum-based nanopowders. It is proposed to use a system with brightness amplification and independent illumination–bistatic laser monitor to increase the brightness and sharpness of images. Independent illumination is realized using a second copper bromide laser and makes it possible to increase the exposure of the object under investigation in comparison with the conventional laser monitor with one brightness amplifier. In addition to independent illumination, a two-channel laser monitor is proposed to examine the surface of burning materials with different magnifications in one area of the sample, as well as simultaneously in two areas of the sample. The delay between the lasing pulses of the brightness amplifiers can be adjusted with high accuracy so that the radiation from one amplifier does not affect the images of the other. The proposed experimental technique makes it possible to investigate the surface of powder materials during high-temperature combustion, accompanied by intense glowing and scattering of combustion products. The paper discusses the application of laser illumination and brightness amplification techniques for studying the process of high-temperature combustion of aluminum and iron nanopowders and their mixtures. The laser equipment for visualization based on solid-state laser illuminator, brightness amplifier on copper bromide vapors and high-speed camera is considered. These approaches allow the increase of monitoring distance to 50 cm, which is important for high-temperature processes imaging. The video images allow studying the surface morphology changes during high-temperature combustion identifying the main stages of combustion, spreading of the heat waves and cooling. This paper presents the study of the energy characteristics of CuBr and CuCl lasers pumped by a longitudinal capacitive discharge. It is shown that with the peaking capacitor connected to the electrodes of a gas-discharge tube of capacitivedischarge- pumped metal halide vapor laser, the lasing power can significantly increase. The optimum value of peaking capacitance varies from 25% to 60% of the value of the capacitive electrodes serial connection. The introduction of HBr additive into the active volume significantly improves laser performance and requires greater peaking capacitance than operation without active additive. The most increase in the output power corresponds to small diameter tubes and amounts 50%, in tubes of large diameter an increase amounts 20%-40%. Currently, the maximum average lasing power of 15 W has been achieved for the capacitivedischarge- pumped metal vapor laser. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
