• Micro-flaky gold particles were fabricated by directly chemical reducing method. • The flaky gold powder can improve the joining between the spherical gold powder. • Conductivity and sintering density of gold paste was improved remarkably. In this study, the gold precursors were rapidly reduced by hydroxy compound and micron-sized flaky gold powder was obtained under hydrothermal conditions. Isopropyl alcohol was selected as solvent and reducing agent after investigating the effect of reducing agent on the morphology of the gold powder. The influence of reaction concentration and temperature on the particle size and morphology of gold powder were researched. By controlling the reaction concentration and temperature, the prepared gold particles have regular flaky structure with the diameter of about 5 μm and the sintered gold conductor paste shows excellent conductivity and sintering density. Abstract Two novel bipyridinium-based metal–organic frameworks Zn[(pbpy) 0.5 (m-BDC)Cl]·1.5H 2 O(1) and Cd[(pbpy) 0.5 (m-BDC)Cl]·H 2 O(2).(pbpycl 2 = 1,1′-[1,4-phenylenebis-(methylene)]bis(4,4′-bipyridinium)–dichloride) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. Both of them show 2D layered window structures. When they are irradiated by 300 W Xenon lamp, both of them exhibit photochromic behaviors which are attributed to the process of intermolecular electron transfer to generate pbpycl 2 free radicals. These processes have been demonstrated by UV–Vis absorption characterization analysis, electron spin resonance (ESR). The photoproduct of compound 1 is more stable than compound 2 in air. Photochromic mechanisms and the relationships between structures and properties have been discussed adequately. Graphical abstract Two cases of metal-controlled photosensitive bipyridinium-based metal-organic frameworks, these compounds exhibit reversible photochromic behaviors. Unlabelled Image Highlights • Two cases of novel MOFs have been synthesized. • These compounds exhibit photochromic properties. • They have different color fading time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LiMnCoNiO was synthesized by sol-gel method at 700, 800, 900 and 1000 °C, respectively, characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and measured as the cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). After their performances have been compared, 800 °C was considered as the optimum synthesis temperature for LiMnCoNiO as the cathode materials for LIBs. When charge-discharged at 20 mA g in a voltage window of 2.0-4.8 V, the LiMnCoNiO synthesized at 800 °C (LMNCO-800) showed charge and discharge capacities of 376.2 and 276.3 mAh g, respectively, with irreversible capacity of 99.9 mAh g and Coulombic efficiency of 73.4%, in the first charge-discharge cycle. The discharge capacity was 239.0 mAh g in the 50th charge-discharge cycle, with capacity retention of 86.6%. The LMNCO-800 also showed superior high-rate performances. When cycled at the rates of 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 C rate (1 C = 200 mA g), the discharge capacities of the LiMnCoNiO can reach 241, 171, 150 and 110 mAh g, respectively. When characterized with high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanodomains with two different structures can be found in LMNCO-800, with some nanodomains showing monoclinic LiMnO structure and the other nanodomains showing hexagonal LiMO structure. Complexes 1–5 exhibit a double-strand meso-helical chain structures formed by [Ln III Cu II 2 ] units via the oxamide and benzotriazole-5-carboxylate bridges, while complex 6 exhibits a four-strand meso-helical chain formed by NdNi unit via the oxamide and 5-nitroisophthalate bridges. Complex 7 consists of a 2D layer framework formed by four-strand meso-helical chain via the nip 2− bridges. Moreover, the magnetic properties of them were investigated, and the best-fit analysis of χ M T versus T show that the anisotropic contribution of Ln(III) ions (arising from the spin-orbit coupling or the crystal field perturbation) dominates (weak exchange limit) in these complexes(for 3 , λ = 214.6 cm −1 , zj’ = −0.33 cm −1 , g av = 1.94; for 5 , Δ = 6.98 cm −1 , zj’ = 1.53 cm −1 , g av = 1.85). Abstract: Six new coordination polymers, [Co(NiL)(aipt)] (1), [Co2(ML)(hipt)2(CH3OH)(H2O)]·CH3OH (M=Cu (2), Ni (3)), [Co2(C2O4)2(CuL)2] (4), [Co4(NiL)4(ipt)4(H2O)2] (5) and [Co(CuL)(tpt)] (6) (H2L=2,3-dioxo-5,6,14,15-dibenzo-1,4,8,12-tetraazacyclo-pentadeca-7,13-dien; H2aipt=5-aminoisophthalic acid; H2hipt=5-hydroxyisophthalic acid; H2ipt=isophthalic acid; H2tpt=terephthalic acid), have been synthesized by a solvothermal method and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1, 4 and 5 exhibit different infinite chain structures formed by CoNi (1), Co2Cu2 (4), Co4Ni4 (5) units, respectively, via oxamide and diverse carboxylate bridges, while complexes 2, 3 and 6 exhibit different two-dimensional network structures formed by Co2M or Co2M2 units via oxamide and 5-hydroxyisophthalate or terephthalate bridges. The results of magnetic determination show weak antiferromagnetic interactions in 1–3 and 5–6, and the spin–orbit coupling interaction of Co(II) is a primary factor in the magnetic behaviors. Abstract: It remains unclear how a cluster packing pattern affects the glass forming ability of bulk metallic glasses. The topological structures of Ti50Cu50 and Ti50Cu45Ni5 metallic glasses obtained by molecular dynamics simulations are compared to investigate the relation between the atomic structure and glass forming ability. The structural analysis shows that the addition of Ni in Ti50Cu50 alloy can significantly change the topological structure. Cluster distribution entropy is proposed to quantitatively descript the disordered degree of cluster distribution. It is shown that the cluster distribution entropy provides a statistical approach for assessing the microstructures of metallic glasses. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Four new isostructural coordination polymers, [M 2 (μ 2 -H 2 O)(DTBC) 2 ] (CTGU- 26(M), M = Zn, Cd, Co and Ni] have been prepared with a new butterfly-typed nitroheterocyclic 4,6-di- 1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yi-1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid(H 2 DTBC) ligand and metal salts under hydrothermal condition. CTGU-26(Zn) features an unusual 2-nodal (4, 8)-connected scu topological network generated by [Zn 2 (μ 2 -H 2 O)(COO) 4 ] units and DTBC2− anion linkers. Luminescent properties measurements indicate that both CTGU-26(Zn) and CTGU-26(Cd) show intense fluorescence-emission compared with free H 2 DTBC ligand in solid state. Moreover, the electrocatalytic activities of CTGU-26(Co) and CTGU-26(Ni) towards methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) of two compounds were also investigated. Remarkably, by combining each MOF with the conductive 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene(HHTP) additive, a composite material, HHTP/CTGU-26(Ni)–I was confirmed to have an excellent performance for MOR with a high mass specific peak current of 25.55 mA cm−2. Four new isostructural coordination polymers, [M 2 (μ 2 -H 2 O)(DTBC) 2 ] (CTGU-26(M), M = Zn, Cd, Co and Ni] have been prepared with one new butterfly-typed nitroheterocyclic carboxylate ligand was prepared and characterized. And the luminescent properties and methanol oxidation reaction were also discussed. [Display omitted] • Four new isostructural coordination polymers have been prepared with a new butterfly-typed nitroheterocyclic carboxylic acid. • They feature an unusual 2-nodal (4,8)-connected scu topological network generated by binuclear units and DTBC2− anion linkers. • The luminescent properties and the electrocatalytic MOR activities of four complexes has been studied and discussed. • Structural features of lanthanide coordination polymers are reviewed. • Crystal structures of lanthanide coordination polymers are provided. • Coordination environment of lanthanides is discussed. • The role of lanthanides in modulating the structural pattern is revealed. • Catalytic applications of lanthanide coordination polymers are highlighted. The review showcases the structural features of an array of recently reported lanthanide coordination polymers with catalytic properties. The field of lanthanide coordination polymers has considerably progressed during the last decade placing it at the forefront of the materials science. The wealth of obtained data clearly demonstrates that lanthanides play a determinant role in tailoring the structural pattern, coordination environment, dimensional configuration and network architecture of coordination polymers. As a rule, the lanthanide(III) ions possess a high coordination number and a large atomic radius, and because of that they tend to generate highly connected complex structures with different coordination geometry. In this way, they easily build two-dimensional and three-dimensional architectures with definite channels and permanent pores. Owing to their strong oxophilic propensity and hard Lewis acid character, lanthanides effectively succeed in creating robust, stable coordination polymers and MOF structures and viable matrices via strongly binding the coordinating groups of the accurately selected organic linkers. Such unique particularities involve a distinct morphology, diverse crystal structures, uniform porosity, a defined pore size and shape, precisely controlled number and dimensions of channels. Their specifically designed configurations allow the access of guest molecules and a controlled distribution of the metal ions on the surface or within the network. Additionally, the lanthanide ions afford new synergistic Lewis acid sites beneficial for productive catalytic applications. These attractive capabilities of lanthanide coordination polymers enabled them to be fruitfully used as sustainable and recyclable heterogeneous catalysts in diverse organic transformations. like carbon-carbon bond forming, Strecker reaction, CO 2 cycloaddition, Knoevenagel condensation, hydroboration and cyanosilylation. Abstract: Four new metal-radical complexes - [Cu(NIT3Py)2(DTB)2] 1, [Co(NIT3Py)2(DTB)2(CH3OH)2] 2, [Cu(NIT4Py)2(DTB)2(H2O)2] 3, [Co(NIT4Py)2(DTB)2(H2O)2] 4, (NIT3Py=2-(3′-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide], NIT4Py=2-(4′-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide], DTB=3,5-dinitrobenzoic anion) have been synthesized by using transition metal ions, nitronyl nitroxide radicals as spin carriers, and incorporating 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (DTB) as a coligand. The structures of 1–4 were determined by X-ray single-crystal analyses. Complex 1 has a square planar geometry, where the Cu(II) ion is located in the central site of the rectangle and two radicals and two DTBA ligands are trans-coordinated to the Cu(II) ion. The other three complexes (2-4) have similar structures, in which two radicals, two DTBA ligands and two solvent molecules act as terminal ligands to form six coordinate distorted octahedrons. The magnetic behaviors of these compounds indicate that antiferromagnetic exchanges exist between the radical ligands and the metal ions, and their magnetic properties are explained by their structures and a magnetic exchange mechanism. • First Pd@ZIF-92 nanocatalyst for efficient C(sp2)-C(sp2) cross-coupling reactions. • Post-synthetic modification of ZIF-90 to ZIF-92 and Pd@ZIF-92. • High catalytic activity and recyclability for reactions in pure water. • Environment-friendly, stable and robust nanocatalyst for cross-couplings. Herein the first ever Pd2+-decorated ZIF-92 nanostructure is readily accessed by post-synthesis modification (PSM) of the zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-90. Thus, the imidazolate linker of the ZIF-90 is functionalized with the hydroxyethylimino group, followed by anchoring the palladium catalytically active sites through a tight coordination of Pd2+ ions to both the N and O atoms of ZIF-92. The acquired data (by PXRD, EDS, SEM, XPS, ICP-AES) concerning the crystalline structure, elemental mapping and network configuration of the Pd@ZIF-92 catalyst confirmed its structure, before and after the cross-coupling reactions and following recycling. The Pd@ZIF-92 showed excellent catalytic activity (>99%) and chemoselectivity in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling proceeding in neat water, at very low Pd loading (0.009 mol%). Comparison of its performance with that of many reported Pd nanocatalysts operating in aqueous/protic media testifies to its superiority. The appealing gateway to this innovative, stable, robust, easily recoverable and reusable Pd@ZIF-92 nanostructure recommends its beneficial utilization in C(sp2)-C(sp2) cross-couplings and other sustainable, environmentally-friendly processes. The hydrothermal reaction of Ln(NO3)3·6H2O, 3-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H3cppdc) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) gave a series of lanthanide coordination polymers n[NH2(CH3)2]·[Ln(cppc)2(H2O)2]n (where: Ln=Ce (1), Pr (2), Nd (3), Sm (4), Eu (5), Gd (6), Tb (7), Dy (8), Ho (9) and Er (10); and H2cppc=5-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid). The H2cppc ligand was formed in situ via decarboxylation of the initial H3cppdc ligand under the hydrothermal reaction conditions. Complexes 1-10 that crystallized in the same C2/c space group, exhibited similar 2D layered structures and assemble into 3D supramolecular networks via hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions. In addition, the luminescence properties of complexes 4, 5, 7 and 8 were investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two novel two-dimensional copper–nitroxide coordination polymers of formula [Cu2(NIT3Py)2(glu)2]n (1) and {[Cu2(NIT3Py)2(adip)2]·CH3OH·0.5H2O}n (2) (NIT3Py=2-(3′-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide, H2glu=glutaric acid and H2adip=adipic acid), have been synthesized and characterized structurally as well as magnetically. The crystal structures of both polymers contain the paddle-wheel binuclear Cu(II) units axially coordinated by NIT3Py ligands which are bridged by the flexible glutarate or adipate anions into the corrugated 2D sheets. Interestingly, complex 1 displays a 2D helical layer structure rarely found in metal–nitroxide systems. The magnetic measurements show the strong antiferromagnetic interactions in the binuclear Cu(II) units and weak antiferromagnetic interactions between copper ions and nitroxides. Abstract: Porous α-Fe2O3 nanorods with typical pore size of 2–4nm were controlled prepared by a facile hydrothermal process of Fe(NO3)3·9H2O aqueous solution in the presence of NaOH, followed by a calcination treatment. Contrast experiments indicate that the morphology and crystalline structure of the hydrothermal products depend greatly on the quantity of NaOH. Hematite nanoparticles and microplates were respectively obtained under conditions without or with excess NaOH. The porous α-Fe2O3 nanorods exhibit a high BET surface area of 105.1m2 g−1 and a pore volume of 0.13m3 g−1. UV–vis measurement shows wide absorption to visible light and an obvious blue-shift of the adsorption edge due to the quantum size effect. The visible-light photocatalytic performances of the as-prepared samples were evaluated by photocatalytic decolorization of methylene blue at ambient temperature. The results indicate that the photocatalytic activity of the porous α-Fe2O3 nanorods is superior to hematite nanoparticles and platelets and exhibit good reusable feature. The photocatalytic process of porous structure is determined to be pseudo-first-order reaction with apparent reaction rate constant of 1.04×10−2 min−1. And the optimum photocatalyst dosage is 20mg per 100mL of dye solution. The porous α-Fe2O3 nanorods are considered potential photocatalyst for practical application due to the excellent photocatalytic behavior and good reusability. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Three new magnetic compounds were synthesized by using 2-(2′-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (NIT2Py) and tris(2-benzimidazolymethyl)amine (NTB) as ligands. The structures and magnetic properties of the complexes with formula [Ni(NIT2Py)(NTB)](ClO4)2(CH3OH) 1, [Mn(NIT2Py)(NTB)](ClO4)2 2 and {[Zn(NIT2Py)2(CH3OH)2](ClO4)2}{[Zn(NTB)(H2O)](ClO4)2} 3 were characterized. Compounds 1 and 2 both have [M(NIT2Py)(NTB)] structural units, where the metal ion is in an octahedral environment bound to one NIT2Py through one pyridyl nitrogen atom and one nitroxide oxygen atom. However, compound 3, the chelating zinc ion has two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit: one is six coordinated octahedral structure [Zn(NIT2Py)2(CH3OH)2](ClO4)2, and the other one is five coordinated pyramidal structure [Zn(NTB)(H2O)](ClO4)2. The magnetic behaviors of these compounds indicate that both the nickel ion and the manganese ion are antiferromagnetically coupled with the NIT2Py ligand with a coupling constant of −19.44 and −0.37cm−1, respectively, whereas two NIT2Py ligands in compound 3 are ferromagnetically coupled with a coupling constant of 19.1cm−1. Abstract: The novel Pd(II) complex, [Pd2(μ-bzta)4]·1.5DMSO (where bzta=benzothiazole-2-thiolate) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by element analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffractometry. In the binuclear complex, two palladium(II) are bridged by four deprotonated benzothiazole-2-thialate in a head to tail disposition and the distance of the two Pd(II) is 2.747Å. Three-dimensional structure of the complex was constructed though S⋯S (3.339Å) weak interaction and π⋯π stack. The binding of the title complex with fish sperm DNA (FS-DNA) has been investigated by absorption and fluorescence spectra. The results indicate that the complex bind to FS-DNA in an intercalative mode and the intrinsic binding constant K of the title complex with FS-DNA is about 1.2×104 M−1. Gel electrophoresis assay demonstrates the ability of the complex to cleave the pUC19 plasmid DNA. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Nine lanthanide coordination polymers based on 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl) imidazolium (HBCI), [Ln(μ 3 -BCI)(NO 3) 2 H 2 O] n (Ln = Pr (1), Nd (2), Sm (3)) and [Ln(μ 4 -BCI)(NO 3) 2 H 2 O] n (Ln = Eu (4), Gd (5), Tb (6), Dy (7), Ho (8), Er (9)), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, PXRD analysis, thermogravimetry analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal structures of the complexes 1 – 3 show a three-dimensional framework and those of 4 – 9 exhibit a two-dimensional layer, due to the various linking modes of HBCI. Complexes 3 , 4 , 6 and 7 show luminescence of the trivalent lanthanides. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum efficiency of 4 as well as the phosphorescence spectrum of 5 were measured. The 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl)imidazolium salt (zwitterion) (HBCI) was reacted, under solvothermal conditions, with rare earth chlorides to provide a series of new two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers, namely [LnBCI) (HCOO) (H 2 O) 2 Cl] n [Ln = Sm (1); Eu (2); Gd (3); Tb (4); Dy (5)]. The complexes were characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. Compounds of 1 , 2 , 4 and 5 exhibit the characteristic luminescence of the corresponding lanthanide ions, due to the 4fn-4fn transition. Furthermore, the fluorescence lifetime of 2 and the phosphorescence spectrum of 5 at 77k are discussed. Five 2D coordination polymers, namely [LnBCI) (HCOO) (H 2 O) 2 Cl] n [Ln = Sm (1); Eu (2); Gd (3); Tb (4); Dy (5)] [HBCI = 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl)imidazolium salt] were prepared and structurally characterized. Luminescence properties of 1 , 2 , 4 and 5 , fluorescence lifetime of 2 and the phosphorescence spectrum of 5 are discussed. Image 1 • Five 2D CPs [LnBCI) (HCOO) (H 2 O) 2 Cl] n were prepared and characterized. • 1,3-Bis(carboxymethyl)imidazolium salt (zwitterion) (HBCI) was used as organic linker. • Compounds 1 , 2 , 4 and 5 show luminescence of the trivalent lanthanides. • The energy transfer processes of the Ln CPs were investigated.
