The base-pair sequences are the foundation for the biological processes of DNA or RNA, and base-pair mismatch is very important to reveal genetic diseases and DNA rearrangements. However, the lack of well-defined structural information about base-pair mismatch is obstructing the investigation of this issue. The challenge is to crystallize the materials containing the base-pair mismatch. Engineering the small-molecule mimics or model is an effective strategy to solve this issue. Here, six cytidine-5′-monophosphate (CMP) and 2′-deoxycytidine-5′-monophosphate (dCMP) coordination polymers were reported containing cytosine-cytosine base-pair mismatch (i-motif), and their single-crystal structures and chiralities were studied. The precise control over the formation of the i-motif was demonstrated, in which the regulating of supramolecular interactions was achieved based on molecular design. In addition, the chiralities of these coordination polymers were investigated according to their crystal structures and solution- and solid-state circular dichroism spectroscopy. The reactions of silver salts AgX [X = OTf (OTf = CF 3 SO 3 ), ClO 4 and BF 4 ] and bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) with 4,4′-bipyridine (bipy) and its derivations [1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethane (dpa), 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene (dpe), 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (bpp)] lead to six silver(I) complexes: {[Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (OTf)] 2 (μ-bipy)}(OTf) 2 ·2CH 3 OH ( 1 ), {[Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (μ-bpp)(OTf)](OTf)·CH 3 OH} n ( 2 ), {[Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (CH 3 CN)] 2 (μ-dpa)}(ClO 4 ) 4 ·2CH 3 CN ( 3 ), [Ag 2 (dppm) 3 ](ClO 4 ) 2 ( 4 ), {[Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (μ-bipy)(CH 3 CN)](BF 4 ) 2 } n ( 5 ) and {[Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (μ-dpe)(CH 3 CN)](BF 4 ) 2 } n ( 6 ). Complexes 1 and 3 are tetranuclear complexes with two eight-membered Ag 2 P 4 C 2 rings bridged by bipy and dpa respectively. 2 , 5 and 6 are of infinite chain structures formed by [Ag 2 (dppm) 2 ] units linked by bpp, bipy and dpe respectively. 4 is a binuclear compound with two silver atoms bridged by three dppm ligands. Abstract: Six new complexes {[Cu(NCS)(H2biim)]2(μ-NCS)2}·DMSO (1), [Cu(H2biim)2(NCS)](SCN)0.5(NO3)0.5 (2), [M(H2biim)3][M(NCS)4]·3DMSO (3–6), (H2biim=2,2′-biimidazole, DMSO=dimethyl sulfoxide, M=Cu, Co, Ni, Zn) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. In complex 1, two copper atoms are coordinated by the H2biim ligand and the isothiocyanate ion respectively and they are further bridged by isothiocyanate anions leading to a binuclear structure. Complexes 1, 3–6 are obtained in DMSO/H2O. Complex 2 is obtained in water. In complex 2, the SCN− anion coordinates to Cu(II) atoms with N atom, resulting in compound 2 with the square pyramidal geometry. Complexes 3–6 consist of [Δ-M(H2biim)3]2+ cations, [Λ-M(H2biim)3]2+ cations and [M(NCS)4]2− anions (M=Cu, Co, Ni, Zn). In the six complexes hydrogen bonds R 2 1(7), N–H…O, N–H…S and S…S intermolecular interaction help to form one to two dimensional structures. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A decanuclear cerium-oxo cluster CeIII 4 CeIV 6 featuring mixed valence was prepared by only using the trivalent cerium salt. Single-crystal structure and the distribution of Ce ions in different valence states are determined. The oxidation process and influencing factors of CeIII to CeIV was revealed. Based on the unique structure with mixed valence, the CeIII 4 CeIV 6 cluster exhibits efficient photocurrent response with photocurrent density 0.98 μA cm−2 at 0.5 V. [Display omitted] • A mixed valence cerium-oxo cluster CeIII 4 CeIV 6 only using the trivalent cerium salt was prepared. • The oxidation process of CeIII to CeIV in the initial reaction was revealed. • The unique structure and composition lead to the effective photocurrent response. Cerium-oxo clusters with mixed valence exhibit distinctive redox properties due to cerium ions switch between +3/+4 valence states. However, the design and synthesis of these clusters present formidable challenges, resulting in limited availability of such species, often necessitating the use of both CeIII and CeIV reactants. Herein, we successfully obtained a mixed valence cerium-oxo cluster CeIII 4 CeIV 6 (µ 3 -O) 4 (µ 4 -O) 4 (acac) 14 (CH 3 O) 6 (CH 3 OH) 2 (CeIII 4 CeIV 6 , Hacac = acetylacetone) through low-temperature crystallization only using the trivalent cerium salt. The coexistence as well as the distribution of Ce ions in different valence states have been determined from a multifaceted analysis. In addition, the stability of the synthesized cluster was confirmed by the HRESI-MS study through redissolution of the single crystal sample in fresh methanol. Importantly, Importantly, this study reveals the mechanism for the generation of +4 valence state. Under alkaline conditions, the presence of trace oxygen and the involvement of acetylacetone ligand facilitated the partial oxidation of CeIII to CeIV. The cluster CeIII 4 CeIV 6 has strong ultraviolet absorption and long visible light absorption. As the electrode precursor, CeIII 4 CeIV 6 showed clear photocurrent response and high photocurrent intensity due to CeIII/CeIV redox reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reactions of diphosphine ligands and isoquinoline (i-C 9 H 7 N) with Ag salts in the mixed solvent of methanol (MeOH) and dichloromethane (CH 2 Cl 2 ) generate the complexes [Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (NO 2 ) 2 ]·(i-C 9 H 7 N) 2 ( 1 ), [Ag 2 (dppm) 2 (i-C 9 H 7 N) 2 (BF 4 )](BF 4 ) ( 2 ), {[Ag(dppe)(i-C 9 H 7 N) 2 ](CF 3 SO 3 )·(i-C 9 H 7 N)} n ( 3 ), {[Ag(dppb)(i-C 9 H 7 N) 2 ](BF 4 ) 2 ·(i-C 9 H 7 N) 0.5 } n ( 4 ) and {[Ag(dppb)(i-C 9 H 7 N)(CF 3 SO 3 )]·(i-C 9 H 7 N)} n ( 5 ). These complexes were all characterized by IR, elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, luminescence, 31 P and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Complexes 1 and 2 have dinuclear structures, while complexes 3 , 4 and 5 have 1D infinite zigzag chain structures. Complexes 1 and 2 are metal clusters in which there exist Ag⋯Ag metal bonds, whilst in compounds 3 , 4 and 5 , two silver atoms are bridged by the diphosphine ligands to form the 1D infinite zigzag chains. Complexes 3 and 5 are 2D topologically promising architectures and complex 4 is a 3D topologically promising architecture. In addition, complexes 1 – 5 exhibit interesting fluorescence in the solid state at room temperature.
