Little is known about how hand therapists assess proprioception and treat deficits in clinical practice and what types of diagnoses they see most often. To our knowledge, no survey has been completed regarding proprioception practice patterns among hand therapists. The purpose of this study was to examine current practice patterns related to the treatment and assessment of proprioception deficits by hand therapists in the United States. This was a cross-sectional study using a survey instrument. The survey was sent to occupational and physical therapists identified as certified hand therapists or members of the American Society of Hand Therapists. The Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys was used in reporting results. Members of American Society of Hand Therapists (n=152) responded to the survey. The participants were asked if they provided rehabilitation services to people who have proprioceptive deficits, and 122 (82%) responded yes, and 27 (18%) responded no. Most therapists use a standardized technique for assessing proprioceptive deficits. Hand therapists' mean confidence level in treating proprioception deficits was 7.2 out of 10 compared to the mean confidence level reported evaluating them, which was 6.1 out of 10. Most hand therapists evaluate and treat proprioception deficits across a variety of diagnoses. While the frequency and duration of proprioception treatment varies, most hand therapists reported high use of open- and closed-chain exercises and activities along with elastic taping as part of their intervention approach. • Many therapists report they treat clients who have proprioceptive deficits. • Therapists' mean confidence level in treating proprioception deficits was 7.2/10. • Therapists reported use of open- and closed-chain exercises and activities. Introduction: Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) treatment is characterized by long-duration therapy, prescription variability, and non-adherence. Patient awareness toward drug treatment is crucial to ensure adherence. The present study was planned to evaluate drug treatment awareness, patient-perceived drug adherence, and prescription patterns in POAG patients. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, single-center, questionnaire-based study conducted in the ophthalmology out patient department of a tertiary care hospital from April 2020 to November 2021. Patients of either gender, aged 40-70 years, with a confirmed diagnosis of POAG, who had records of POAG medications for at least last 3 months and who provided written informed consent, were included. Prescription details were recorded, and subsequently, patients were administered a pre-validated drug treatment awareness (14 items) questionnaire, a self-reported medication adherence (9-item) questionnaire, and then they performed eye drop instillation in a simulated setting. Results: The total number of patients enrolled was 180, which yielded 200 prescriptions. The mean drug treatment awareness score was 8.18 ± 3.30, and 135 (75%) patients scored more than 50% (≥7/14). Similarly, 159 patients (83.33%) had scored >50% (i.e. >5/9), with a mean score of 6.30 ± 1.70 in the medication treatment adherence questionnaire. The mean eye drop instillation performance score was 7.18 ± 1.20. The 200 POAG prescriptions containing 306 drugs were analyzed, with beta blockers (184/200, 92%) and timolol (168/200, 84% encounters) being the highest prescribed classes/drugs. Conclusion: POAG patients did have adequate treatment awareness with good self-reported medication adherence and performance of eye drop instillation technique. Certified athletic therapists in Ireland and Canada serve essential concussion assessment and management roles, but their health care practices and concussion knowledge have not been established. To examine Irish and Canadian athletic therapist cohorts' (1) concussion knowledge, (2) current concussion assessment and management techniques across all job settings, and (3) the association of concussion assessment and management practices with years of clinical experience and highest degree attained. Cross-sectional cohort study. Online survey. Licensed Irish (49.7%, n = 91/183) and Canadian (10.1%, n = 211/2090) athletic therapists. Athletic therapists completed an online survey assessing their demographics, concussion knowledge (symptom recognition, patient–clinician scenarios), frequency of concussions assessed annually, and assessment and return-to-play (RTP) measures using a modified, previously validated survey. Symptom recognition consisted of 20 (8 true, 12 false) items on recognition of signs and symptoms that were scored as total correct. Descriptive statistics and odds ratios were used to examine survey responses where appropriate. Irish (86.8%, n = 46/53) and Canadian (93.4%, n = 155/166) athletic therapists indicated RTP guidelines were the most common method for determining RTP. Symptom recognition scores were 72.8% ± 17.0% among Irish and 76.6% ± 17.0% among Canadian athletic therapists. Irish (91.2%, n = 52/57) and Canadian (90.4%, n = 161/178) athletic therapists reported standardized sideline assessments as the most used concussion assessment method. Irish and Canadian athletic therapists' use of 2-domain (Irish: 38.6% [n = 22/57]; Canadian: 73.6% [n = 131/178]) and 3-domain (Irish: 3.5% [n = 2/57]; Canadian: 19.7% [n = 35/178]) minimum assessments (ie, symptoms, balance, or neurocognitive) was not associated with education or clinical experience (P ≥.07), except for Canadian athletic therapists with master's degrees having greater odds of completing 2-domain assessments at initial evaluation than those with bachelor's degrees (odds ratio = 1.80; 95% CI = 1.41, 1.95). Irish and Canadian athletic therapists demonstrated similar concussion knowledge; however, most did not fully adhere to international consensus guidelines for concussion assessment as evidenced by low 2- and 3-domain assessment use. Objective: It is important to evaluate the nutrition of patients in palliative care centers. Most patients are unrecognized and lacking treatment, as there is no consensus on ways to scan, diagnose, treat and follow the malnutrition, and the lack of adequate awareness and training of healthcare professionals. This study aims to evaluate the approaches and awareness of healthcare professionals in Turkey who support nutrition in Palliative Care Centers. Methods: A survey, prepared by researchers, conducted to assess the effectiveness of healthcare professionals in patient nutrition, was conducted on a virtual basis in all healthcare professionals who were fully employed, accessible and volunteered with palliative care patients. The data was evaluated through descriptive and analyzing statistical methods. Results: The average age of the 105 medical professionals who participated in our study was 36.4±9.3 (25-59), of whom 68 (64.8%) were women and 37 (35.2%) were men. Sixty-seven (63.8%) of the participants, most of whom were physicians, were specialists, 30 (28.6%) were assistants and general practitioners, and 8 (7.6%) were nurses. When asked how many of their patients they started feding products, 38 people (36.2%) said, with 41-60%. If you think you've got enough recognition of nutritional content, there were 28 people who said yes (26.7%), 30 people who said no (28.6%), and 47 people (44.8%) who said sometimes. When asked what they considered the most when planning a feeding product, 95 people (90.5%) said that they cared about the patient's request, compared to the calories and content of the product. Conclusions: Our study found that participants were largely absent from knowledge and awareness, and observed differences in patient attitudes. Background: The tracheostomy procedure is commonly required to wean patients off the severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study aimed to determine the practice, outcome and complications of two techniques: i) surgical tracheostomy (ST) versus percutaneous tracheostomy (PT) and ii) two different times of procedure: early tracheostomy (ET) versus late tracheostomy (LT). Methods: This was a retrospective, cross-sectional study conducted from 1 January 2013 until 31 December 2017, involving 268 severe TBI patients who required tracheostomy during neurosurgical intensive care unit (Neuro-ICU) management. The data were obtained from their medical records. Results: When based on techniques, PT displayed a significantly shorter day of tracheostomy plan (7.0 [2.5] versus 8.3 [2.6] days; P < 0.001); day of execution (7.2 [2.6] versus 8.6 [2.9] days; P < 0.001); duration of mechanical ventilation (9.8 [3.4] versus 11.3 [3.1] days; P < 0.001) and duration of ICU stay (12.3 [3.7] versus 13.8 [3.5] days; P < 0.003) than ST. If based on timing, ET showed a significantly shorter duration of mechanical ventilation (8.8 [2.1] versus 12.9 [2.9] days; P < 0.001), length of ICU stay (11.4 [2.4] versus 15.2 [3.5] days; P < 0.001) and length of hospital stay (17.1 [3.2] versus 20.0 [4.0] days; P < 0.001) than LT. Conclusion: PT showed a shorter mechanical ventilation and ICU stay duration than ST. In comparison, ET showed shorter mechanical ventilation, ICU stay and hospital stay duration than LT. Background: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have been used in acute pulmonary thromboembolism as an alternative to warfarin due to drug interactions, narrow therapeutic range, and necessary close International Normalized Ratio (INR) monitoring. Phase 3 study results have reported that these drugs are at least as effective as warfarin and beneficial in terms of bleeding; however, studies that present up-to-date life data are necessary. Aims: To evaluate the frequency of using DOACs, which are prescribed with a limited number of indications in our country, and real-life data results. Study Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: This cross-sectional survey collected the clinical data (history, current treatment, treatment duration, etc.) of patients with pulmonary thromboembolism and who applied to the physician for follow-up between October 15, 2019, and March 15, 2020. The researchers kept the patient records sequentially. Results: Data from 836 patients with acute pulmonary thromboembolism from 25 centers were collected, and DOAC was used in 320 (38.5%) of them. The most preferred DOAC was rivaroxaban (n = 294, 91.9%). DOAC was mostly preferred because it could not provide an effective INR level with warfarin (n=133, 41.6%). Bleeding was observed in 13 (4%) patients. Conclusion: The use of direct oral anticoagulants is becoming almost as widespread as conventional therapy. To study the association of personalised care plans with monitoring and controlling clinical outcomes, prescription of cardiovascular and antihyperglycaemic medication and utilisation of primary care services in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Primary care T2D outpatients from the Rovaniemi Health Centre. The municipal health centre, Rovaniemi, Finland. A cross-sectional, observational, retrospective register-based study. The patients were divided into three groups: 'no care plan entries' (usual care); '1–2 care plan entries'; and '3 or more care plan entries'. Monitoring of clinical and biochemical measures, achievement of treatment targets, prescription of cardiovascular and antihyperglycemic medication, and use of primary care services. A total of 5104 patients with T2D (mean age 65.5 years (SD 12.4)), of which 67% had at least one care plan entry. Compared to usual care, the establishment of a care plan (either care plan group) was associated with better monitoring of glycosylated haemoglobin A1c, low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, systolic blood pressure (sBP), and renal function, and there was more frequent prescription of all cardiovascular and antihyperglycemic medication. Patients in either care plan group were more likely to achieve sBP target (p < 0.05). Patients without a care plan had more unplanned primary care physician contacts compared to patients in care plan groups (p < 0.001). Establishment of a care plan is associated with more intensive and focussed care of patients with T2D. The appropriate use of primary care resources is essential and personalised care plans may contribute to the treatment of patients with T2D. Care planning aims to empower patients with type 2 diabetes. This study demonstrates that personalised care planning is associated with more frequent monitoring for clinical outcomes, more frequent prescription of cardiovascular and antihyperglycemic medication and more frequent utilisation of planned diabetes consultations when compared to usual care.
