The article describes the destructive plant witchweed. The weed is found in Africa and infests crops of maize, millet and sorghum. A report by the Boiovision Foundation stated that the witchweed Striga hermonthica is responsible for most crop losses in Africa, infests 40% of crop producing land in the savanna region, causing damages of 7 to 13 billion U.S. dollars annually and posing a threat to 100 people in that region. Control strategies for witchweed are discussed.
