5. COMPARING SOCIALIST AND POST-SOCIALIST TELEVISION CULTURE.

This article builds a theoretical model for comparative analysis of media culture based on the notion of genre, and applies it to a comparative analysis of television as a cultural form in socialist and post-socialist Croatia. The paper explores how the shares and generic composition of programme modes of information, entertainment and fiction change in time, and how the contribution of different genres to programme flow and modes varies with the changes of political, economic and technological context. Longitudinal trends in television flows are comparatively evaluated in relation to trends in genre developments in Europe and their relationship to the changes in the cultural role of television. The results show a decrease in the information and an increase in the fiction mode between socialism and democracy, with some similarities of the Croatian and western television culture in relation to genre and mode composition and flow, albeit with a belated introduction of neo television genres. Notwithstanding the limited freedom of expression and ideological content, which necessarily influenced socialist media culture, television as a cultural form in Croatia developed in concert with the global programme flows. The article is based on original content analysis of television schedules where the unit of analysis is a television programme listing. The analogue television universe is represented by longitudinal data for 1959, 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999, and 2009. The stratified systematic sample (N=3934) for each chosen year consists of two constructed weeks from a universe of all listed programmes broadcast on all free to air television channels with a national reach license. 6. Medijska konzumacija i povjerenje u medije kod studenata u Hrvatskoj

Istraživanja u čijem su fokusu medijska konzumacija i povjerenje u medije na uzorku hrvatskih studenata relativno su rijetka. Ipak, studenti su dominantno mladi ljudi u procesu stjecanja formalnog obrazovanja koji medije koriste u kako u svrhu učenja i informiranja, tako i u svrhu zabave te druženja, što ih čini zanimljivom podskupinom medijskih konzumenata. Prema tome, cilj ovog istraživanja bio je ispitati u kojoj mjeri studenti u Republici Hrvatskoj konzumiraju i imaju povjerenja u različite vrste medija (televiziju, radio, tiskane novine, portale i društvene mreže). U tu svrhu provedeno je online anketno istraživanje na prigodnom uzorku koji je činilo 172 hrvatskih studenata/ica različitih studijskih usmjerenja. Rezultati provedenog istraživanja indiciraju da hrvatski studenti, u prosjeku, u maloj mjeri konzumiraju tiskane novine, dok je konzumacija televizije, radija, portala i društvenih mreža umjereno izražena. Također, studenti, u prosjeku, iskazuju nisku razinu povjerenja prema televiziji, radiju, tisku i portalima, a umjerenu razinu povjerenja imaju isključivo prema društvenim mrežama. Kada su u pitanju razlike u konzumaciji medija između studenata novinarstva i srodnih studija te studenata ostalih studijskih usmjerenja, utvrđeno je da budući novinari i srodne struke više konzumiraju televiziju, tiskane novine i portale, dok u konzumaciji radija i društvenih mreža nema značajnih razlika. Također, dobiveno je da hrvatski studenti novinarstva i srodnih studija imaju više povjerenja prema svim ispitivanim vrstama medija, nego studenti ostalih studijskih usmjerenja., Researches focusing on media consumption and trust in the media on a sample of Croatian students are relatively rare. Nevertheless, students who are dominantly young people in the process of acquiring formal education, use the media both for the purpose of learning and gathering information, as well as for entertainment and socializing, which ultimately makes them an interesting subgroup of media consumers. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the extent of media consumption and trust in different types of media (television, radio, printed newspapers, portals and social networks) among students in the Republic of Croatia. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 172 Croatian students from various fields of study. The results of conduct analyses indicate that, on average, Croatian students consume printed newspapers in a small extent, while the consumption of television, radio, portals and social networks is moderately pronounced. Also, students, on average, show a low level of trust in television, radio, printed newspapers and portals, but have moderate level of trust exclusively in social networks. When it comes to the differences in media consumption between students of journalism and related studies and students of other fields of study, it was found that future journalists and related professions consume more television, printed newspapers and portals, while there are no significant differences in the consumption of radio and social networks. Also, it was found that Croatian students of journalism and related studies have more trust in all the examined types of media than students of other study areas.

Gastronomija nekog prostora jedna je od temeljnih odrednica kulture i zajedničkih vrijednosti naroda koji na tom prostoru obitava. Ukoliko se njome pravilno upravlja, ona može postati i slika koja predstavlja taj narod u očima drugih kultura. To se postiže pažljivim upravljanjem imidža i procesom brendiranja. Na taj način su nastale neke od najjačih spona između hrane i kulture koju predstavljaju – poput pizze i Italije, sushi u Japanu te hamburgera sa Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama. Takva povezanost rezultira boljim međunarodnim imidžem, što se pozitivno odražava na različite sektore poput proizvodnje, ugostiteljstva i turizma. Zbog toga je cilj ovog diplomskog rada utvrditi postoje li u Hrvatskoj preduvjeti za proces brendiranja gastronomije, zatim kakav je potencijal hrvatske kuhinje u odnosu na ostale gastro-sile, njene prednosti i nedostatci, i finalno, koje se promjene moraju dogoditi na institucionalnom, restoraterskom, ekonomskom i drugim planovima kako bi se otvorio prostor za emancipaciju hrvatske gastronomije. Koristeći polustrukturirani intervju, konzultirano je pet stručnjaka iz područja gastro-novinarstva, kulinarstva, ugostiteljstva i marketinga te kvalitativnom analizom njihovih odgovora formirala se predodžba o trenutnom stanju hrvatske gastronomije, kao i o njenoj mogućoj budućnosti. Rezultati su pokazali da hrvatska gastronomija ima velik potencijal za brendiranje, pogotovo uzimajući u obzir broj kvalitetnih sastojaka svjetske razine te različitost njenih geo-gastronomskih regija, no također da postoji velik broj promjena koje se moraju dogoditi na institucionalnom, marketinškom te zakonodavnom planu prije nego se takav proces pokrene., The gastronomy of an area is one of the core determinants of culture and collective values of a nation occupying that area. If properly managed, it can become the image which represents that nation in the eyes of other cultures. To achieve this, its image must be carefully curated alongside the process of branding. Some of the strongest bonds between food and the culture they represent were made this way – pizza and Italy, sushi in Japan and hamburgers with the United States of America. This sort of connection results in an improved international image, which reflects positively onto different sectors such as production, the hospitality industry and tourism. Therefore, it is the goal of this Master's thesis to determine if there are sufficient prerequisites in Croatia to support the process of gastronomy branding as well as its potential in relation to other gastronomic powers, it's strengths and weaknesses and, finally, the changes that would have to happen on an institutional, restaurant, economic and other levels to open up space for the emancipation of Croatian cuisine. Using a semi-structured interview, five experts from the fields of gastro-journalism, cookery, hospitality and marketing have been consulted and, using qualitative analysis, their answers formed an image of the current state of Croatian gastronomy and its possible future. The results have shown that Croatian gastronomy carries great branding potential, especially when considering the number of high quality ingredients and the variety of its geo-gastronomic regions, however, they've also shown that many changes must be made on institutional, marketing and legislative levels before such a process can be initiated.

8. Konstrukcija stvarnosti na Instagramu među hrvatskim studentima

U ovom diplomskom radu se kroz teoriju i kvalitativno istraživanje pokušava saznati kako hrvatski studenti doživljavaju stvarnost na Instagramu. Za potrebe istraživanja, metodom polu - strukturiranog intervjua je ispitano šestero hrvatskih studenata različitih zanimanja. Oni su prihvatili sudjelovanje i dali odgovore na 15 pitanja čiji je tema vezana uz Instagram i stvarnost, karijeru, ljubavni život, zdravlje i društveni život. U prvom dijelu prikazan je teorijski dio povezan s temom rada, a najveći i jako važan dio zauzela je konstrukcija stvarnosti. Kako se rad bazira na hrvatskim studentima i Instagramu obrađene se teme identiteta, ali i Instagrama, od njegovog početka pa do trenutnog stanja. U analizi su se saznali odgovori studenata i njihovo razmišljanje. Studenti su pokazali zadivljujuću svijest i razlučivanje što je realnost, a što samo prikaz koji je umjetno stvoren. Iako razlučuju zbilju od nerealnosti, na studente je Instagram imao ili još uvijek ima utjecaj, najviše kada govorimo o pitanju pozitivne slike tijela koja se javlja kao veliki društveni problem. Studenti ne sele svoj život na ovu popularnu društvenu mrežu, ali svojom aktivnošću pokazuju da na njoj vole provoditi vrijeme., In this thesis, through theory and qualitative research, we try to find out how Croatian students experience reality on Instagram. For the purposes of the research, six Croatian students of different professions were examined by the method of semi - structured interview. They accepted participation and provided answers to 15 questions whose topic is related to Instagram and reality, career, love life, health and social life. The first part presents the theoretical part related to the topic of the paper, and the largest and very important part is occupied by the construction of reality. As the work is based on Croatian students and Instagram, the topics of identity are covered, as well as Instagram, from its beginning to the current state. From the students answers we found out how they think. The students showed an amazing awareness and discernment of what is reality and what is just an artificially created representation. Although they distinguish reality from unreality, Instagram has had or still has an impact on students, especially when it comes to the issue of a positive body image that emerges as a major social problem. Students do not move their lives to this popular social network, but their activity shows that they like to spend time on it.

Fenomen masovnih pucnjava dugotrajni je dio američkog društva upleten u gotov sve njegove sfere. Američki građani ga doživljavaju na jedan način, a hrvatski na drugi. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je shvaćanje razlike u reprezentaciji spomenutog fenomena u američkim i hrvatskim člancima na Internet portalima, a posljedično tome i u javnostima. Pomoću metode kritičke analize diskursa došlo se do rezultata koji su pokazali da su američka kultura oružja i kultura nasilja, jednako kao i socijalna psihologija nasilja i masovnih pucnjava, neodvojiv dio ovog fenomena koji u velikoj mjeri utječe na američko društvo., The mass shooting phenomenon is a longterm part of the American society intertwined with almost all of its spheres. American citizens experience it in one way, and Croatian citizens in another way. The aim of this research was to understand the difference of the previously mentioned phenomenon in American and Croatian articles from Internet portals, consequently in public as well. By using the critic discourse analysis method, results showed that the American's gun and violence cultures, as well as the social pshychology of violence and mass shootings, are indivisible from this phenomenon that impacts the American society in great measure.

Ovim se etnografskim istraživanjem želi opisati korištenje medija u kafićima na dvije različite strane svijeta. Cilj istraživanja je vidjeti koje se sličnosti, ili pak razlike mogu primijetiti kako na velikoj prostornoj udaljenosti, tako i u odnosu mlađe na stariju populaciju. Ovaj rad želi istražiti koliko su (ili nisu?) mediji okupirali našu svakodnevicu, koliko su nas socijalizirali s drugim ljudima, ili s druge strane, ipak udaljili. Za što sve koristimo medije kada se nalazimo u kafićima? Je li to za upotpunjavanje razgovora s osobom s kojom razgovaramo, je li to u poslovne svrhe ili samo ubijamo dosadu kada nemamo o čemu razgovarati? Kafići su postali komunikacijski prostori, mjesto za druženje, mjesto za obavljanje poslovnih sastanaka i rješavanje obaveza kako vezanih za posao, tako i za, primjerice fakultet. Do neke smo granice postali „ovisni o medijima“, s jedne strane zato što postaju gotovo nužni u svakodnevnim životima. Zaključno se može reći da su se mediji, korak po korak, uvukli u naše živote, svjesno ili nesvjesno, kod nekoga više, kod nekoga manje, ali, u grubo rečeno, počeli smo svoje svakodnevnice formirati prema medijima., This ethnographical research wants to show the usage of media in cafes on two different sides of the world. The goal of the research is to see which similarities and (or) differences can be noticed both in a large spatial distance and in the relation to the younger population to the older population. This paper wants to show how much or how little the media has occupied our everyday life. How much it has socialized us with other people, or on the other hand has much it has alienated us. What do we use media for when we meet in a cafe? Is it just to have a small talk with the other person we are meeting? Is it for business purposes or are we just killing boredom when we have nothing to talk about? Cafes have become a communication space, places to hang out, to have our business meetings, and solve our obligations, both personal and professional. At some point, we became ''dependent on media'' because the media became such a necessity in our lives. In conclusion, we can say that the media has found a way into our lives, both consciously and unconsciously depending on the person. Roughly speaking, we can say that we started to form our everyday life according to the media.

11. Uloga Hrvatskog audio-vizualnog centra u promociji hrvatskog filma: od osnivanja do danas

Rad analizira ulogu Hrvatskog audiovizualnog centra u promociji hrvatskih filmova, od njegovog osnutka 2008. godine do danas. Krajnji cilj istraživanja je saznati na koji način iz perspektive filmskih djelatnika poboljšati vidljivost hrvatskih filmova u Hrvatskoj općenito te zainteresirati publiku za iste. Kroz teorijski dio rada napravljena je razlika između financijskih modela korištenih u Europski i Hollywoodu te objašnjen značaj filma za kulturu Republike Hrvatske. Predstavljen je i kratki presjek poslijeratnog razdoblja do osnutka HAVC-a te napravljena analiza HAVC-ovih godišnjih izvještaja u razdoblju od deset godina. Naposljetku je napravljena usporedba Hrvatske sa Slovenijom, kao zemljom sa sličnim financijskim modelom i filmskim uspjehom. Pritom je provedena online anketa sa stanovništvom Republike Hrvatske te intervjui s osam hrvatskih filmskih djelatnika. Rezultati ankete pokazali su kako su je ispunjavali relativno zainteresirani ispitanici koji kao nedostatke hrvatske kinematografije izdvajaju slabu promociju te tešku dostupnost. Intervjuirani hrvatski filmski djelatnici također su tvrdili kako je hrvatski film slabo vidljiv te kao rješenje predložili brendiranje hrvatskih filmova te osnivanje legalne online filmske platforme za domaće filmove., The paper analyzes the role of the Croatian Audiovisual Center in promoting Croatian films, from its inception in 2008 to the present. The ultimate goal of the research is to find out how, from the perspective of film professionals, to improve the visibility of Croatian films in Croatia in general and to interest the audience for them. Through the theoretical part of the paper, a distinction is made between the financial models used in Europe and Hollywood, as well as the importance of film for the culture of the Republic of Croatia. A short section of the post-war period to the inception of the HAVC was presented and an analysis of the HAVC's annual reports over a 10-year period was made. Finally, a comparison was made between Croatia and Slovenia, as a country with a similar financial model and film success. Further, an online survey was conducted with the population of the Republic of Croatia and interviews with eight Croatian film employees. The results of the survey showed that it was filled by relatively interested respondents who, as deficiencies in Croatian cinema, highlight poor promotion and difficult accessibility. Interviewed Croatian filmmakers also argued that Croatian film was poorly visible and suggested branding Croatian films and establishing a legal online film platform for domestic films as a solution.

U proteklih nekoliko godina često se pojavljuju medijski članci o tužbama protiv medija (nakladnika) ili novinara osobno. Cilj ovog istraživanja je ukazati na postojanje medijske konstrukcije prilikom izvještavanja o tužbama protiv novinara i medijskih kuća u Hrvatskoj. Glavno istraživačko pitanje glasi: Je li medijsko izvještavanje o tužbama stvaran prikaz činjeničnog stanja sa sudova ili postoji medijska konstrukcija kojom se problem uvećava iznad stvarnih činjenica u korist tuženih medija ili novinara? U prvom dijelu ovog istraživanja izlažem podatke o novinarskim tužbama prikupljene s 21 suda u Hrvatskoj. Drugi dio istraživanja su studije slučaja medijskih tužbi o kojima se najviše izvještavalo od 2013. do 2018. godine. U 5 studija provela sam kvalitativnu i kvalitativnu analizu sadržaja. Zbog vremenskog i prostornog ograničenja ovog rada odabrala sam samo online članke. Nakon što sam napravila analizu sadržaja odabrala sam 5 osoba koje sam intervjuirala, bilo da su to tuženi novinari ili novinari koji su izvještavali o tužbama. Zaključak istraživanja je da ne postoji medijska konstrukcija prilikom izvještavanja o tužbama protiv novinara i medijskih kuća u Hrvatskoj kojom se problem uvećava iznad stvarnih činjenica. Nakon boljeg upoznavanja sa zakonskim okvirom primjećujem kako u svih pet studija slučaja postoji neka kontroverza, bilo oko presude, bilo oko osobe koja je pokrenula tužbu, te su članci bili na nju fokusirani. Nije se izvještavalo o tužbama protiv medija u kojima je tužbu pokrenuo netko tko nije javna ličnost. Također se nije pisalo niti o tužbama protiv medija u kojima je novinar prekršio zakonska ili etička pravila struke., In the past few years, there have often been media articles about lawsuits against the media outlets (publisher) or journalist themselves. The aim of this research is to point out the existence of a media structure when reporting on lawsuits against journalists and media outlets in Croatia. The main research question is: Is media reporting on lawsuits reflection of facts or is there a media construction that magnifies the problem beyond the actual facts in favor of the respondent media or journalists? In the first part of this research paper, I present information on journalistic lawsuits collected from 21 courts in Croatia. The second part of the research paper are the media lawsuit case studies that were most reported from 2013 to 2018. In 5 studies I conducted a qualitative and quantitative content analysis. In this paper due to time and space constraints I analzyed only online articles. After finishing content analysis I selected 5 people I interviewed, whether they were respondent journalists or reporters reporting on lawsuits. Conclusion of this research paper is that there is no media construction that magnifies the problem beyond real facts when it comes to reporting about lawsuits against media or media outlets. After getting better acquainted with the legal framework I notice in all five case studies there is some controversy, either about the verdict or about the person who initiated the lawsuit, the plaitfill. There were no reports of lawsuits against the media in which the lawsuit was initiated by someone other than a public figure. There were also no reports of lawsuits against the media in which the journalist violated the legal or ethical rules of the profession.

Ovaj rad istražuje percepciju Hrvatske kao zemlje Balkana iz perspektive stranih studenata i studentica na razmjeni. Istraživanje se temelji na konstituiranju identiteta balkanske regije koja se shvaća kao odrednica hrvatskog nacionalnog prostora. Spomenuta povezanost upućuje na značenjske borbe u koje su uključeni i studenti i studentice na razmjeni. Kroz pojmove orijentalizma, koji implicitno nagovještava i pojmove balkanizma, te okcidentalizma, istražuje se način uspostavljanja odnosa moći na području Europe. Intervjuirani studenti i studentice, iako često nesvjesno, unatoč susretu sa novom okolinom perpetuiraju već postojeće predrasude o Balkanu, ne dovodeći u pitanje hegemonijske odnose. Kroz stalne borbe oko značenja pokušava se uspostaviti identitet Balkana kao regije i Hrvatske kao zemlje između Balkana i Europe., This paper explores the perception of Croatia as a country of the Balkans from the perspective of foreign exchange students. The research is based on the constitution of the identity of the Balkan region, which is understood as a determinant of Croatian national space. The mentioned linkage refers to struggles over meanings in which exchange students are involved. Through the notions of Orientalism, which implies the notions of Balkanism and Occidentalism, establishing a relationship of power in Europe is explored. Interviewed students, albeit often unconsciously, and despite encountering new environment, perpetuate existing prejudices about the Balkans, without questioning the hegemonic relationships. Through the constant struggle over meaning, the identity of the Balkans as a region and Croatia as a country between the Balkans and Europe is being established.

SAŽETAK Ovaj rad se bavi medijskim slučajem Edwarda Snowdena u Hrvatskoj u kontekstu teorije zavjere iz perspektive mladih. U ovom radu spominje se Mannheim koji je utopijsko stanje definirao kao ono koje se ne podudara s stanjem iz kojeg proizlazi, a Hrvatska kao postsocijalistička zemlja idealan je primjer liberalno-humanitarne utopije čiji stanovinici imaju ideje o Zapadu kao „savršenom“. No da taj ideal ruše zavjerničke teme prikazane u filmu Citizenfour pokazalo je istraživanje provedeno za potrebe ovog rada. Konačno, ovaj rad pokazao je vezu između diskursa i narativa iz filma i dominantnog čitanja medijskog teksta u smislu prepoznavanja elemenata teorije zavjera kod ciljane skupine istraživanja., This paper is about the media case of Edward Snowden and conspiracy theory from perspective of young people in Croatia. This paper deals with Mannheim's notion of utopian mind which he defines as a state of mind that is incongruous „with the state of realty within which occurs“, but Croatia as a post-socialist country is a perfect example of liberal-humainarian utopia whose citizens see the western sphere as a perfect one. But this ideal is negated by conspiracy themes presented in the documentary film Citizenfou , as it is shown by the research conducted for this paper. Finally, this paper shows the connection between the film's discourse and narrative, and dominant hegemonic position of decoding media texts in a way of recognition of conspiracy theory elements by the target group.

Ovaj diplomski rad podijeljen je u dva dijela od kojeg je prvi dio teorijski okvir, a drugi istraživanje. U prvom dijelu obrađuje se pojam, nastanak i proširenje Europske unije te proces Hrvatskog pristupa Europskoj uniji, od početka pregovora pa sve do referenduma i službenog pristupa 01. srpnja 2013. godine. Istraživanje izvještavanja njemačkog tiska o ulasku Hrvatske u Europsku uniju provodilo se na uzorku njemačkih novina: Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung te Bild. U istraživanju se koristila metoda analize diskursa koja je prvotno imala za cilj ustvrditi na koji način i kakvim su se diskursom njemačke novine koristile u izvještavanju o hrvatskom pristupu Europskoj uniji. Analiza diskursa je pokazala da su dvije novine: Süddeutsche Zeitung i Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung izvještavale u sličnom broju članaka, baveći se jednakim temama i identičnim medijskim diskursom. Također, analiza diskursa je pokazala da se njemački tisak koristio negativnim diskursom u svom izvještavanju o pristupu Hrvatske Europskoj uniji. Kroz članke su se najviše prožimale teme loših posljedica raspada Jugoslavije i rata, gospodarska kriza u Hrvatskoj, loše pravosuđe, korupcija, neinformiranost građana i strah od pristupa Europskoj uniji te afere poput „Lex Perković“ koja je gotovo odvukla pažnju od samog pristupa., This master thesis consists of two parts, the first part being the theory and the second part research. The first part theorizes the definition, the emergence and expansion of the European Union, also the accession of Croatia to the European Union, from its starting negotiations to the referendum and official accession on July 1, 2013. The research of the German press reports about Croatia`s accession to the European Union was conducted on the following German newspapers: Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Bild. The method used in this research is discourse analysis, with the goal of finding out in which way and what discourse the German press used in reporting about Croatia’s accession to the European Union. The discourse analysis showed that two newspapers Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported similar number of articles dealing with equal subjects and identical media discourse. Also, the discourse analysis showed that the German press used negative discourse in its reporting about Croatia`s accession to the European Union. Throughout the articles the main subjects were the negative repercussions of the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the war, economy crisis, slow administration, corruption, citizan`s lack of information and fear of accession to the EU and affairs like „Lex Perković“ which almost drew whole attention from the accession.
