The article discusses the significant role of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) in the treatment of the critically-ill patients. It is stated that PICCs are significant to critically-ill patient since they have improved flow rates and triple lumen configurations, hemodynamic monitoring capability, and can reduce insertion-related complications. PICCs also have power injection capability, can reduce post-insertion complications and minimize serious, iatrogenic complications by utilizing the peripheral approach to central venous catheterization
